Very Organized & Efficient. Dr. Higgens removed cataract's from both eyes 20 years ago. I return every year for a check.

First time visiting to address an eye irritation. Went through the typical "first visit" appointment paperwork. The paperwork seemed excessive to me especially since much of the info requested for me to fill out is redundant with my ID and health insurance cards they copied. On the other hand check out was very rapid. Overall I arrived at 850 and left at 1040 and only spent about 10-15 minutes with the actual Ophthalmologist. I may update later after I see how my issue responds. Follow up. Several drugs and some good eye cleaning instructions my inflame eye was back to norm in a week as estimated. See pix. read more

Unfortunately I can not recommend them. I had been having trouble with my eyes looking in different directions. I was concerned and asked for an emergency appointment. They gave me a date 3 WEEKS OUT. I explained that I talked to my ENT who said if this happens again call them and get in that day. They moved my appointment up one week. The doctor that made that decision was Dr. Blostica. I called another office that day , an office I had never dealt with. Dr. Houck said this is an emergency can you come in right now. After all his testing he determined I needed an MRI of the brain, and the ocular sockets. He spent TWO HOURS with me. He was very thorough. He conferred with the other Doctors in the office. He also referred me to a Neuro opthmologist in Grand Rapids. He has called me 4 times since that date. He was checking up on me and the last call was to report test results. Thus far, there are no answers, but he continues to search.,if I had waited for Dr. Blostica to see me I would've had 3 long weeks of concern. Dr. Blostica is what is wrong with medicine today. I've been coming here for almost a decade, and it's been great. When I first moved to Kalamazoo, I tried three different optometrists and was so unhappy. I needed new gas permeable contact lenses, and the folks at other places couldn't get my prescription right and kept trying to get me to switch to soft lenses which I was not interested in. I was recommended Dr. Standiford by a friend because he's a contact lens specialist. He did an exam, asked me lots of questions about how I wear my lenses, and reached out to my previous optometrist from before I moved to get the brand and prescription of my last good pair of contact lenses (something the other optometrists never bothered to do). The lenses I have now are great. He's also been able to provide me with lots of advice about Lasik and its alternatives and the pros and cons given my specific case. He's never pressured me to get additional services or get new lenses when my prescription hasn't changed. I trust him, and it's great. Everyone I've interacted with in the office has been pleasant, and they were even able to accommodate a rush Rx request when I lost a contact on the streets of Barcelona. In the last couple of years, they started taking EyeMed which is a huge plus. read more

Because of my particular health issues, I've seen Dr. Higgins, an ophthalmologist at this Kalamazoo Ophthalmology, every year for several decades. He and his staff do excellent and thorough exams, and he keeps my primary care physician informed and updated. A practice I thoroughly recommend. read more

Did you know that Kalamazoo Ophthalmology gives prescriptions based on your AGE not based on what you can or cannot see. The Dr spends all of five seconds with you and about 1% of that time is actually looking at your eyes. The prescription that I left the office with left me with less vision that before. I called back three times and no matter who I spoke with and pleaded with to recheck my vision, I was told no because my Rx was based on my age. So now I need to pay someone else to check my vision so I can get a prescription that will actually allow me to see. PLEASE NEVER GO HERE! If you need a Rx you can just call them and tell them you age. I will never go there again. I am so upset! read more
