Arrive early or on time. If you miss your window you have to wait until the next half hour to start your session. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. The zip line is so fun we went twice! We have tried all the easy tree climb challenges and are working our way to the difficult level. Estimate 45 minutes per trail so we were able to complete two and zip line with our two kids. Warning - wear sneakers with laces otherwise you have to wear their loaners. The only other downside are the shared helmets everyone has to wear them and they some times stink and so do the harnesses. They stink too. Gloves are optional but highly recommended. You can bring your own or purchase them there. Bug spray recommended too. read more

Like the zipline, this place has gone way downhill with poorly trained and too few staff members to run it properly. What they don't tell you: if you are a petite adult, or a child, due to your weight you may not make it fully across many of the obstacles. What they also don't tell you: because of this, you MUST go with a partner that is able to pull the rope to get you to the end, otherwise when you get stuck in the center you might have an employee tell you to "figure it out yourself" or that it isn't their job to get you unstuck from dangling in the middle of the zipline, but at least you're "safe" because you won't fall! At the end of the day, if you've done a lot of ropes courses, you'll find that this one isn't very well designed. It relies too heavily on obstacles where you have to pull a rope to yank up a trapeze bar or rope to ride down, which is just redundant and boring. Did the designers not realize that other obstacles exist? I was hoping for a fun challenge, not the monotony of yank rope, do obstacle, yank another rope, do obstacle, yank ANOTHER rope, ad infinitum. Nothing about the climbing course allows you to appreciate the views, and there was an unfortunate lack of things like rope bridges where you could alternate back and forth between the physically challenging and the natural beauty admiring. In fact, if you came to get nice views, you'd be better suited to doing the Nature Trek inside the zoo. I did successfully complete the hardest course here, but it did seem rather appalling that the entirety of section A (3 ropes courses, extending across two sides of the roadway) was being monitored by only a single staff member. Far too much territory for a single employee to safely watch over. The most physically demanding part of the entire course is the final wood ladder, which is only difficult because the tension on your fall rope is so high you spend all of your energy dragging it up behind you like a massive ball and chain. This culminates in the most massively underwhelming "freefall jump" where you're instead lowered down the entire way at a snail's pace. Food for thought: this is designed to the bare minimum and meant as a one and done adventure. It is not something that they expect people to come back and do again, otherwise they'd have things like memberships set up, or a program to skip the initial safety course if you're "certified" as having completed it previously, as many other courses do. The worst part is, they very well know this, and you're essentially a disposable commodity, so expect to be treated that way (note that there were several wonderful employees, but the ones that said things like "figure it out yourself" and "it's not my job to help you" (what IS your job, if not that?) ruin it for the bunch). LOOK ELSEWHERE If you're looking for a stimulating course that blends natural beauty and physical activity. Or f you are a petite adult, or have children under 12 (supposedly they'll take 7 and above here, but that seems pretty ludicrous). There are far better ropes courses that I've done in the Poconos (Gorilla Grove isn't bad), and also there's The Adventure Park in CT and on Long Island (plus they also have axe throwing there, soooo... yeah, there's far better stuff around). read more

This place is awesome. It's right outside the main entrance of the Zoo and it's a seperate ticket to get in. It takes a minute to check in if don't buy your tickets ahead of time. You have to sign a waiver as well. Once you get thru that there's a locker area for things(no charge) and then you wait for your turn for the class on how to climb and put on your harness. Part of it is a video but there are folks to help you and check that you are doing to properly. There's also someone who shows you how to climb the obstacles. Everything is clearing marked so as long as you follow the procedure it's safe and you won't fall. When the class is done, you are free to pick your course. There are three levels. Beginners, medium and expert. I've only done the beginners and medium course. It's fun and depending on how fast you go, be prepared to spend at least 30 to 45 minutes or more to get thru the course. There's also a Zip Line that takes you across the Bronx River. Great way to spend a few hours either before or after the Zoo! read more

By far the best treetop climbing/zip line in the tri-state area. Staff was friendly, professional and engaging. Everything was incredibly organized. The courses were extremely challenging but so much fun. Came here with my daughter just after opening (10:30am on a Sunday). I had pre-purchased tickets online but didn't fill out the waiver. I quickly filled out the waivers on a tablet and we were on our way. Staff set us up with harnesses and helmets and we watched a quick safety video. From here it was suggested we do the zip line before starting to climb. It was so much fun zipping back and forth across the river. After that we were on to the first course which was a small course with one of the staff showing us how to use our equipment and clip ourselves onto the obstacles. After this we moved on to one of the beginner courses. Even the beginner courses here are quite a challenge. We gradually moved up in challenging courses and ended at the blue course which was extremely challenging. There are seven courses in all and most have a small zip line or something similar. One of the courses we did had a horse saddle on a zip line. The climbing course is recommended for ages 7 and up but unless your 7 year old is extremely mature skip the climb and just do the zip line. Once you get onto the platforms you are responsible for clipping yourself from obstacle to obstacle. I'm not even sure my 9 year old could do this on his own. If you buy the combo climb/zip line ticket make sure to do the zip line first. It's impossible to time your climb since some obstacles/courses are harder than others. You only have 2 1/2 hours total and they do keep checking your wristband. A few tips. Fill out the waivers online and pre-purchase your time slot. Make sure to use the GPS Coordinates: 40.853964, -73.872057 for your navigation, this will bring you to the Bronx River parking lot. This is the only lot you can park in without walking 15 minutes and paying a separate admission for the zoo. Parking here is $16 per car. Wear sneakers and bring gloves (or use the ones they provide). Lockers are provided or leave everything in your car (nothing is permitted in your pockets). There are cameras at several spots but they charge you $10 per pic (booooo). I do wish for the price they would give you zoo admission and maybe throw in a pic since you can't take your camera with you. Overall this experience exceeded my expectations. Been coming to the Bronx zoo for years, so we were very excited to hear about this new Treetop Adventure that opened up. Definitely surpassed expectations. The staff were all very friendly and helpful, and really check and recheck all of the safety gear. This was very organized, and safe feeling. The zip lines were a lot of fun. It's about 10-15 seconds long over the Bronx River, but definitely pretty exhilarating. The entire course probably takes 20-30 minutes to complete. Highly recommend checking this out at your next visit. Tips: -Wear sneakers (otherwise you have to get a pair from them which are pretty much only sprayed down with Lysol after each use...so I'd wear your own) -270lbs Max (they weigh you before entering but it's very discreet. OFFICIAL BREATH TAKING ZIP LINE AND OBSTACLE COURSES IN THE BRONX? Yess!!! This is a hidden gem!!! It is just something else that everyone in New York must experience... appreciate what New York has to offer!!! HAHAHA! Okay, so let me get to the point... I LOVEEEE IT! My boyfriend and I have been saying that we were going to come here for some time, but we were just waiting for it to get a little warmer. He surprised me since we heard on the news that the weather was going to go up to the high 50s. He purchased the tickets online, and we arrived there about 15 minutes early. As soon as he got there, we showed our tickets at the front and were asked to step on a scale to see if we meet the requirements... once we were set, they gave us wristbands. We walked up and were greeted by a young man. He explained to us that we have to make sure our shoes were tied, earrings were off, everything was out of our pockets... no phones, etc! We put everything in a locker and put our combination. We were, then, geared up, and watched two short safety clips. We were told that they usually have the people do the zip line to get people started and out of their fear... I am not going to lie, my legs were shaking a bit. Then I realized, I am in in full body harness and I have a helmet... what is the worst that could happen? Hahahaha. So we started with the zip line, and it was such an awesome experience. It is a bit scary, but you feel free... like you're flying and the wind is just hitting you and the water is below you. Point is... Zip lining in the Bronx Zoo is a MUST! Then, we started the obstacle courses; we had Andre with us. Andre was just the most professional and patient person. He explained everything to us... and he assisted with little tricks on how to complete the more challenging parts of the courses. He was not letting me give up. Andre was also fun because he was very knowledgeable and you can just tell that he enjoys what he does... give this young man an award or promotion ASAP! The obstacle courses were actually challenging. They had several different ones... with different levels of difficulties. We only came for ziplining, but we had such a blast! Well, first, we had an insane time walking trying to find this place since it's located outside the zoo by gate B, but probably slightly our faults since we are directionally challenged lol. If you walk, just be aware of how LARGE the zoo is so to walk its perimeter, it'll take awhile- I'm driving next time. Make a reservation so you definitely have a time slot (you can easily do this online when you're buying tickets)- although we were a half hour late from getting lost and luckily they were flexible enough to let us in regardless. Anyway, we were greeted by extremely friendly staff, all making jokes and explaining the rules/tips. They do have lockers which they didn't charge for, which was SO nice since usually places try to make an extra few bucks off you. They were very helpful too when we of course screwed up by resetting our locker combo by accident lol. The courses have you zipline over the Bronx river, and it truly is a treetop adventure since our feet touched some leaves on our trip to the other side! It was so thrilling and more fun than I expected. The staff were well equipped to catch us on the other side with ease. The trip is probably only 30 seconds and maybe...idk 400 feet in a straight direction, but still So. Much. Fun. If you're not local and you have a few hours, I suggest doing the zipline AND climbing combo package since the deal seemed pretty good and you will get your times-worth for the trip you make here (ziplining was probably 30 minutes when all is said and done). But if coming just for ziplining, I HIGHLY recommend it as well! read more

My boyfriend and I are thrill and adventure junkies so I thought this would be the perfect day-activity for our anniversary. I booked the zip and climb combo for us. We've zip lined about 2-3 times in the past but this was our first time completing a challenge course. I read all of the FAQ's and tips online; especially where it says to arrive 20 mins before your booked appointment. Unfortunately, due to a detour on one of the buses we took to get here, we ended up arriving 15 mins late. This ate up our time, being that your 2.5 hour reservation begins at the time you reserved even if you don't show up on time. no worries though, we made the best of the rest of our time there. First, we put our things away in a locker (no extra fees on that). We watched a 3-4 min introductory video on rules and how to use the equipment (new & very advanced equipment!) The staff helped us gear up. Morris and another staff member (I didn't get his name) were so helpful and funny! Morris then helped us to a little test run before we got on the real challenge courses. This was incredibly helpful, and it's good if you arrive early that way you get your full experience without worrying about the time. A super life-saver was that they have water stations at every entrance and exit of each course to keep you hydrated. They also give you gloves to help with grip. With the time we had remaining after our intro, we did the two Zip lines first. They were super fun especially the 2nd one since it was higher up and you get a great view. The courses themselves were very impressive. There are 2 easy courses (yellow), 2 intermediate (green), 2 hard (blue) and one expert (black). We tried one green course, one blue course, and my boyfriend completed the black course on his own while I watched and took photos lol. The blue course that we did was long and took a lot of upper body strength. I fell on the first step of the blue course, good thing my clips were hanging on!! It was more of a challenge for me just because I'm 5'0 and had to stretch my arms/legs to grab on a rope or step on a log. I'm very proud at the fact I didn't give up. I can't wait to go back and try some of the other courses. Overall, this by far exceeded my expectations. I'd really like to thank the incredible staff for making our day amazing. While we walked from one course to the next, every staff member greeted us and asked if we were having a good time. Even when up on the challenge course, a staff member down below would cheer us on. The courses were challenging and fun without being too difficult for the different age groups in our party. The zip lines were exhilarating without being scary. The facility was organized and clean. And the staff were, without exception, knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. We could not finish all of the courses in our allotted time slot, but we will definitely be back! read more

GO SOMEWHERE ELSE! Customer service is horrible and the course is not for 7 year old's as advertised. We arrived at the treetop adventure entrance at 10:30am (our scheduled arrival time) on a Sunday. I was with my 9 year old son and twin 7 year old daughters. We were meeting my sister and her son who we haven't seen all year because of the pandemic. We were so excited to do this outdoor activity together.  We had planned to arrive 30 minutes early as requested on the tickets. However, the traffic to get into the zoo was overwhelmingly packed - the zoo was completely sold out even before we arrived. After sitting in all that traffic (and a 2 hour drive for my sister from New Jersey), we showed up to treetop adventures at 10:30am, and an extremely obnoxious employee's first words out of her mouth to us was 'did you sign the online waiver? No? Well, unfortunately you can't go'. I told her we weren't asked to sign a waiver online and we can just do it there. Her response to us was, 'unfortunately because you're late, you can't go'. I told her we just sat in all this zoo traffic and asked to speak to a supervisor. We were then told that the 7 year olds can't reach high enough to go. Only a GIANT 7 year old could do this course. The whole experience was beyond infuriating, they could care less and they ruined our Sunday. read more

Fun experience and something different to do outside. The zip lining was fun and the tree climbing was quite hard! I have done that at another facility and exercise regularly and still found the green at that entrance to be challenging as did my husband! Recommend trying to really basic ones to start- don't think you're ahead of it even if you have done this before! That's my friendly word of advice. Would go back and agree, best done in the fall! My wife took me here for our seventh anniversary and it was AWESOME! At night it looks like a tiki bar and it was about 30 degrees since we went on a November night! That still did not mess up the adventure. We did the combo pass and had a 2.5 hr session. We did zip lining over the river and 3 obstacle courses. The staff was awesome and I was happy about my experience. They were all nice, courteous, and helpful. I'm literally going back to conquer the rest of the courses!!! Its such an adrenaline rush. We booked at 1pm today. We arrived around 12:20pm, however, it took us 40 mins to find a parking because Bronx zoo staffs directed us to 3 different parking lots. Even though we were not late, the staffs refused us to go in because we didn't be there 30 mins earlier. I kept on asking different options, like if we could go if no one showed at 1:30pm or 2pm. NO! Could we get refund? NO! Could we reschedule? NO! The one thing I've gotten from them was a # to call. My son cried so badly on Father's Day. I really don't think those staffs care at all. Had a great time with my family (husband and teenage kids) on both the zipline and rope course adventure. Awesome staff -especially Andrew- who coached me through a rough patch instead of letting me give up and get off. We made reservations for 4 for just zip-lining. I read all the FAQ's and didn't see that I would be charged $16.00 for parking. It did say if we parked elsewhere we would be charged, as well as have to walk through the zoo to get to the zip-lining course. Either way we arrived at 9:26, gates were open, cars were parked. Pulled up to the booth and there was not a soul there. In front of us was a cart full of 4 younger people but not one of them acknowledged us. We drove in and followed other cars....about halfway through we are stopped and the 4 employees with the cart came over and asked if we are employees so we explained we were there to zip-line. She very rudely told us we went the wrong way and needed to turn around, she also said the parking lot doesn't open until 9:30 when clearly it was open. (NO signs on the gate, or booth saying times either, we looked) I explained that there were no signs and it did say Asia entrance and parking ahead so I was confused how we could have known any better. Sooo we turned around and went to the lot. About 10 minutes later the cart pulls up again and the same rude attendant asked if we were members....so when we said no she said we needed to pay $16.00 for parking. I asked where that was stated and she walked away while her and her friends make rude comments about us being stupid. Since we smartly did our forms online the check in process was less than 5 minutes. At the top after walking past where we were stopped it took 10 minutes to get our turn to get ready. While doing this a park worker was talking to us and after hearing we had 2 people afraid he offered the 4 of us a second trip through the zip-line....so we started to feel as if the nastiness of the first set of people was forgotten. Even after 4 people going all the way through twice we were done in 30 minutes. So not only did I pay $34.95 each (which was worth it) but I also paid $16.00 for 30 minutes of parking. AND while we were standing waiting we watched about 100 cars go up and walk down to the zip-line so apparently the rules are only for those whom the employees choose to enforce them to. So maybe they were annoyed that we came through when they weren't doing their job or god only knows...but their attitudes were not that of my experience at the Bronx Zoo ever and we faithfully go 2 times a year every year. So as a whole the zip-line part was great, had a blast, great employees. Explained the process clearly and were personable the whole time. Front gate employees.....not so much. Parking is a rip off unless you plan to spend the day in the park, which we did not. read more

Visited at 4 pm on a Thursday, the place was pretty empty. Checking in was a breeze, it's recommended to do the waiver ahead of time. The staff was energetic and friendly. Water bottles and bags aren't allowed once the activity begins, but there are plenty of lockers plus coolers filled with water all over. This being my second time doing a climb/zip line, I tackled the yellow and green courses like a pro, lol. The blue course is definitely a challenge, but if you're up for an adventure it's definitely worth your while. I finished it with encouragement from the guide and felt done for the day. I went with a group of my friends to this ropes course, and we were disappointed with our experience for a number of reasons. One being this is a place where many kids go to have fun but we found it unacceptable that a good amount of the employees seemed to be in a bad mood and were often rude, including an employee named Dave who insulted my friend by showing him as a poor example even after we explained he was a new climber. Another reason why we found this experience poor, was because while we were signing up none of the employees made it very clear, (knowing our age) that we would be excluded from most of the activities. And after our experience what we found most important is that the people who work there should understand that in a place that specializes in family friendly entertainment, customer service is crucial. read more

My granddaughter and I were soooooo disappointed with the zipline at the Bronx zoo. It was one problem after the other. Employees gave very poor directions (we were on foot from the train), didn't tell us to get there before the Zoo closed its doors (around 4:40), then gave conflicting information to us and on and on. BTW, it took more than a hour on the metro from Manhattan to get there, a real waste of our time. To boot, and no surprise, the two very short zip lines (compared to other places we had ziplined) were only 50 feet above the ground and there were only two, one across a small stream and the return. This cost me $25 pp, a 4 minute ride total. We asked for a refund prior to the zipline experience but they wouldn't budge and took no responsibility in this misadventure and waste of our time. Administratively, they are really messed up. This had nothing to do with the concierge at our hotel. read more

Had an amazing time here! Staff was great and very helpful and positive (especially Rob and Eric!). I did the combo package. First we did the zip line which was a great way to start. We then moved onto the climb courses. I completed a green (intermediate) first and then completed both blue (advanced) courses. The blue courses were challenging, but so much fun! I will be back to complete the black (expert) course! I went on a on and off rainy Friday at 10:20. There was absolutely no crowd and I never had to wait. Challenging and fun, my boyfriend and I went, we are somewhat athletic but still found it to be difficult. There are easy climbing to start with and it gradually gets harder. Truthfully have no idea how kids can do it since we were struggling and the hardest level we got was blue. Staff is incredibly fun and outgoing! They made the trip even better with all their tips and guides to get through each course. We did the combo which included the zip lining and the climbing. Definitely worth the money. The zip lining was cool just not as great as the climbing and I don't think the zip lining alone is worth the $$. Took my son and his friends there for his birthday and they absolutely loved it, they cannot stop talking about it and wanting to go back but unfortunately that's not any time soon because of the pricing which is way too high. But everyone there was so welcoming and funny, we were greeted by Andre who was lovely and made us feel like we belonged, he then showed us lockers which were free thank god. after that they put us in gear and took us through a training course which was also done by Andre who made it so clear for the kids to understand, after that was the zip line which wasn't the longest ride but was amazing. Everyone was so knowledgeable of the courses and knew exactly which ones I could handle. Just doing the courses along was fun but the people working there was the icing on the cake, I remember lafe who made sure I get his name right, he was maybe the funniest one, always smiling making jokes and interacting with the kids distracting them from their fear of heights he and everyone there was so patient and encouraging, I'd recommend them to anyone.
