Brookside Veterinary Hospital and Brookdale Kennel in Ann Arbor were purchased by a new owner about six months ago - April 2025. We had boarded our German Shepherd at this kennel for about six years without incident, and he loved going there. Under previous ownership, the veterinarians actively monitored the dogs, and we trusted their care completely. On Nov 25-28, 2025, our dog was boarded at Brookdale Kennel. On Nov 28, we received a call that no owner would want to get, that he had died from bloat (gastric dilatation-volvulus), a painful condition requiring urgent surgical intervention--services available at the clinic. Kennel logs show he refused food that morning and was curled up in his bed at 8:30 AM. He had also urinated in his kennel--highly unusual for him. These were clear signs of distress, yet no one escalated to the veterinarian. He was not checked again until FOUR hours later, when he was found deceased. The new owner confirmed only one staff member and a "floater," who was working in the clinic and available if needed, was responsible for 14 dogs that day. Renovations created isolated kennels with solid doors and an opening at human chest/neck height, reducing visibility and stimulation--essentially leaving dogs in near-solitary confinement. Outdoor breaks were reduced from what we had always been told, six times a day to now four, lengthening the time interval seen, without notifying existing customers. While bloat can occur suddenly, timely recognition and intervention could have saved his life. Instead, he suffered and died crying alone during peak hours. This is gross negligence, and I strongly advise pet owners to reconsider boarding here. read more

Called to set an appointment. Was answered by the rudest lady. Will never be taking my dog here with so many other options in the area.

We decided to use Brookside to board our three dogs for a weekend while we drove up to the UP. I called them in advance with lots of questions because one of our dogs is 16 years old and requires extra care. The lady who answered the phone assured me that they could care for an older dog, especially because they are a vet clinic as well. They said that they don't do temperament checks because all of the dogs are taken out separately. We received no calls over the weekend that there were any issues with the dogs and came to pick them up Sunday. Our younger two dogs were fine. They carried my older dog out to me and said he was wet because his water bowl had dumped over. As I carried him out to the car, it was easily clear that it was not water, but in fact urine. He was soaked. I gave him a bath at home and he seemed disoriented and couldn't stand on his own. He could stand and walk when we dropped him off but would need help getting up every now and then. When we picked him up, he was like a completely different dog, and we took him to the emergency vet. When I called Brookside the next day, they said the noticed NO ISSUES! This concerned me even more because something was clearly wrong with my baby, and they couldn't even tell me when it started or any symptoms leading up to this. read more

Basically if you go into a place and the staff seem over burdened or like they have a lot of emotional problems, for instance crying during the visit and you aren't sure why - you probably need to take your pet and leave. Nowadays you can't just take a vets recommendation about medications - you have read up on it and think about it. Maybe 30 years ago you could take a vets advice and be good but not today. If you feel like the vet is playing games with you - just go - don't let them touch your pet. read more

I have seen both Veterinarians at Brookside for years. Dr. Smaltz I feel we have grown up together, she is so down to earth but most important very wise. She is kind, compassionate and really understands animal behavior and illness. Dr. R is an educator, he is a Cornell grad and also very smart. Even though their services are limited they are conscientious and will refer you to another practice when testing or care exceed their offerings. The groomer Nancy is beyond words. She has groomed my terriers for years and when she has worked her magic, they look like show dogs! Reception staff are very busy but always able to meet your scheduling needs. read more

He had a tick bite a month prior where he had an episode of the same symptoms. To make a long story short, by the time I figured out, and yes, I, not them that he did in fact have Lymes disease it was too late. They tested him for it, and it was positive, this is the FIRST THING a vet in MICHIGAN should have looked for especially with his history with the tick bite 2 months prior. My dog did not have to die. He was so bad towards the end that he just couldn't do it, his body failed and his stomach torsioned. These vets have NO BUSINESS practicing medicine. They aren't practicing anything. This place is a joke. The doctors come off very confident, but don't be fooled. This place is a sick joke. I hate giving one star because honestly I want to give more. For the past year I've taken my two dogs here for both treatment and boarding. Never had an issue. Until now. I dropped my toy aussie (10yrs old) and German Shepherd (12yrs old) off on July 9th. I dropped off two healthy happy dogs. On July 14th I picked up one happy dog and one on deaths door. Now, my GSD as health issues when it comes to his back legs but with two months on proper meds and exercise, he's gotten increasingly better. This was not the case when I picked him up. He couldn't walk, he was panting, crying and in pain. I didn't drop my dog off like this. The boarding assistant helped him get to me and then dropped him to the floor. I was visibly upset and said "what happened to my dog?" To which he said "that's how he was. Don't neglect your dog." Excuse me? I brought in a happy dog. Now he's biting me when I pick him up. The worker than came back out again and said I insulted his wife. Who I learned was the front desk worker which I never insulted. He also did all of this in front of other customers. The male vet himself is a wonderful dr. He saw I was visibly upset and allowed me to express my thoughts and remained calmed. I understand the vet couldn't always keep an eye on my dog so he can't say everything was always good. But something did happen at some point. They said they were getting feed back from the boarding staff saying my dog didn't want his food or water. Yet the moment I got him home he ate and drank immediately. Furthermore, my dog didn't get his pain meds everyday because I keep count of them due to the fact they are a controlled substance. I wish the whole staff was as nice, calm and genuine as the male vet but sadly that is not the case. read more

DO NOT LET YOUR PET STAY HERE! Absolutely horrifying experience. Please do not send your pets here if you are considering daycare/overnight boarding. Their website is misleading. They do NOT update you and do not care for the animals. Both of My dogs were terrified, left in a urine & feces filled kennel. We were told they would be in a unit together. They were left in separate kennels. If you ever went to a run-down shelter.... This is exactly what this place is. We had a delayed flight & they did not accommodate us for being 20 min late. They only give you a 30 min time-frame to pick your pets up. We asked for 20 minutes... so instead they made us keep our pets over another night. So between 5:30 pm and 7:30 am there's no one to care for the animals. No overnight staff. They do not give you a run-down of how their schedules will be during their stay and they do NOT tell you or show you what conditions they will stay in. Pets are part of the family and are supposed to be cared for the same way you would and not in a manner that is beyond cruel. Also, it's in the middle of nowhere off of a dirt road behind someone's home. I had a bad feeling pulling into the lot and now I know why. I cannot urge everyone enough to stay away from this place!!! Like the other reviews said, can't believe this place hasn't been shut down. read more

The doctors here are the worst. They don't really care about the clients, they care more about making the money. The doctors also get attitudes & get aggressively rude with their assistants along with the receptionist. Sometimes they get attitudes with the customers. I don't recommend this place at all. Plus it's a dumb, hole in the wall. The receptionist Cindy the also the worst out there. She likes to lie about things that are going on with the animals. She also doesn't report any issues to the doctors, she thinks she runs the pace when she doesn't. She has no bedside manners what so ever. Some of the conditions that are in the building are just terrible. I'm surprised they're not shut down yet. I urge people to take their animals to a different vet, one that actually cares for the animals & not just making money. read more

My corgi has had two cysts succesfully removed by Dr Smalz. And a teeth cleaning along with a few other things. I appreciate that they are experienced enough to take pets to a separate room to do the exams. Hovering pet owners are undoubtedly a distraction !! A couple of my neighbors who also have dogs have long been loyal to the clinic and I'm glad that I followed their lead. read more

I would give these guys negative stars if I could. Whatever you do, don't take your pet here. They don't care about the well being of the animals, they are only interested in making money. I have 2 cats, one of which has an aggressive skin allergy. It causes her to scratch until she pulls her fur out and has bloody patches all over her body. The only thing that stops her from scratching is prednisone. Dr Vincent Rozyczko was the vet that she always saw. Here are the top reasons why Dr. Rozyczko and co. are a bunch of crooks: 1. He kept insisting on doing these ridiculous $800 blood tests and he insisted that the only way he could administer the steroids was by giving her a shot (which cost about $50 plus the cost of the visit). We were spending $100+ every month on vet visits. Upon moving back to Chicago, we got a REAL vet who told us that she could take steroid pills that would cost about $15 every 2 months. She also told us that blood tests and skin tests are a waste of time because 90% of the time, you never find the cause of the allergy. 2. Upon moving, Dr. Rozyczko told us that he would be more than happy to fax her complete file over to her new vet. Once we established the new vet, he refused to fax anything over to them. He was completely uncooperative. 3. When we had our little cat spayed, they kept her in her little carrier, only taking her out to perform the surgery, and then put her back in the little cage. She was in that little cage for two days straight. I went to pick her up and she was all drugged up and laying in a urine soaked cage with her little surgery scar exposed. She also had marks on her face from pressing it against the bars because she doesn't like being in her cage. 4. Occasionally Dr. Rozyczko would have us drop her off for her visit if they were extremely busy. I would tell him that we only wanted him to give her a steroid shot and he would tack a bunch of other crazy stuff onto the bill. I can't tell you how many times he tried to sell us completely worthless medicine! I had to constantly keep track of what this guy was charging us for. 5. He would always do the examination in some back room where we couldn't see what he was doing. For all we know, he sat back there reading the newspaper while he was supposed to be taking care of the cat. I have never had a vet take my pet to another place to do the exam. They always do it in the room right in front of you. I think this made it easier for him to tack extra stuff on to the bill without us objecting ahead of time (this would occasionally happen). Don't take your pets here if you care about them. I never found a vet that I particularly liked in the 3 years that I lived in Ann Arbor but this guy was the worst of all. read more

I have been going to Brookeside for about 20 years and have to weigh in here to defend them. Dr. Smaltz and Dr Rozyczko have always been great with us. Both care deeply about your animals and try to make recommendations that meet your needs. I also always get follow up calls the day after my appointments from the Dr.'s themselves to check on how the treatment is working. Regarding other comments, I think if you are looking for euthanization from a provider that has never seen your animal that can be problematic. I would recommend one of the emergency hospitals. If you don't want to hear what the best practices for treatment are for your animal I don't have much to say to that. Try them - you won't be disappointed. read more

They entirely neglected our hedgehog while he was boarded there for three weeks. No one played with him even though we requested at least 15 minutes of play time each day - this is important for hedgehogs so that they stay accustomed to people. We even spoke to a worker at the clinic who had the nerve to say, "I don't even know what your pet looks like" and this was the person left in charge of making sure he was ok and playing with him. Been going here for all of my pet's needs for the last 3 years. The vets are very experienced and reasonable with the pricing of their services (especially if you have PetAssure insurance). Every time I go, I feel like they do an excellent job of explaining what's wrong and giving me all the details I need to make decisions for my fur babies. After labor-intensive treatment, she survived, while having become very fond of Dr. Roziczko in the interim. DO NOT BOARD YOUR DOGS HERE! I have taken my dogs to brookdale for boarding for years, but this last time was the last straw. I have a 10 year old toy fox terrier and a 7 month old boston terrier. I sent them for boarding over thanksgiving weekend and they were not fed regularly (the food i was sent home with only had one meal missing!). They were there for what should have been 5 meals! and also i don't think they were let out regularly to pee. When i picked them up they acted as if they hadn't been out in hours and hours. If you can't care for animals over a holiday weekend then don't offer boarding services! I will never take my animals there again. My older dog is acting traumatized. Not feeding animals as their owners advise is abusive. I've never seen my dogs so hungry. read more

First things first: the care that the doctors give the animals is top-notch. Seriously, easily among the best. I absolutely trust them to take good care of my dog, provided I don't have to leave them overnight. For routine visits, they are wonderful, and again, I have absolutely nothing bad to say about the doctors. Dr. Rozyczko and Dr. Smaltz are just phenomenal, and incredibly personable. They obviously care deeply for their work and the animals, and we trust them wholly. However, I cannot recommend boarding here, because the staff lost my dog, who I later found dead on the freeway. The old white woman (I specify because I believe there are two older women who care for boarded pets) who walked my dogs has constantly demonstrated a lack of care for the animals. Every time we picked our dogs up, our dog's harness was improperly secured; however, she said that she was just trying to secure it quickly to get her out to us, and that's why she didn't do it correctly. However, after this incident, I don't know how much I believe that was the case. I believe that her harness was improperly secured almost every time, and this is why our dog finally escaped. If you aren't even ensuring that a dog's harness is properly secured before you take them out on a walk, literally putting their lives at risk if they escape, then perhaps you shouldn't work with animals for a living. We'd also get our pet bedding back, unwashed and still soaked in pee, whenever she was the one to return our dogs. Our dog escaped after a walk with this woman. Though I try to be kind and compassionate to others, the lack of remorse and sympathy from her when we were there really sealed the deal for me. Perhaps it was shame, or perhaps she just didn't feel okay facing us because she was why we lost a beloved member of our family, but regardless, she was the least compassionate and kind in the whole ordeal, even actively avoiding us when we came in. I'm vehemently against people losing their jobs, but I genuinely don't believe that this woman should be working at an animal clinic given her carelessness for the life of these creatures. A small, helpless dog lost her life because of this woman's negligence, all because she didn't take the extra 60 seconds to make sure the harness was properly secured or get someone to do it right. So long as this woman works here, we refuse to ever return to this place, for any service. And I don't want anyone else to deal with the same pain we've been dealing with since it happened. It's been almost a year, and the pain never goes away. It was my third loss within half a year, after losing my mother and grandmother just months prior. But THIS was a death that was entirely avoidable; it did not need to happen, and it was what finally broke me during an already difficult time. It still makes me want to throw up every time I drive by the stretch of freeway where I found her, and the smell of the air freshener I had in my car when I picked her up off the road will always make me sick. The trauma that has resulted from this has been much more significant than I think they necessarily realize, especially given everything else going on in my life at the time. That will stay with us for the rest of our lives, in the same way that this woman will always have been responsible for it. Dr. Smaltz, however, was very loving and generous. The clinic paid for my dog's cremation, as well as the mementos we wished to purchase after her death, which was a very kind gesture on their part. So again, the doctors are fantastic and loving, and I cannot recommend them enough for providing medical care for your pets. But so long as this other woman is there "caring" for boarded pets, I cannot in good conscience recommend leaving your pets here when things go back to normal. Even with proper training, you can't ensure that such negligent behavior won't happen again when there is a repeated history of it, and you certainly can't repair trust that's been broken after someone has killed your dog. read more

I am going to be the contradictory reviewer. I love Brookside so does my dog. I switched from another vet because I felt they did not care for animals they were just doing a job. I think the opposite is true at Brookside. I do agree they are expensive and do alot of testing and checking (for a charge), however, Dr Rozyczko is a Cornell Graduate and very knowledgeable. I am not so much concerned about cost as long as I feel my pet is being taken care of by someone who knows what they are doing. My dog also has a skin allergy which is really bad most of the year and they always do a great job relieving his pain and infection. They do recommend some expensive treatments but you don't have to do them if you do not want to. I think they are extremely knowledgeable and care deeply about animals. Thankfully, I have never had to subject my animals to their lack of care or subject myself to the ridiculous upsell the staff tries to pull. I have had many of my friends go there once only to say they won't return because every test, vaccine, food and supplement is pushed on pet owners and those who refuse them are looked down upon as if they are abusing their pet. Worst of all, the office manager is an absolute nightmare! Watch out for the absolutely incompetent front desk staff that will incorrectly charge you and then send you to collections after you refuse to pay the difference. Anna is completely incompetent (email me and I'll forward you her letters that have so many grammatical and spelling errors that a 5th grader could correct) and it's embarrassing that she has a job. I have both positive and negative reviews- but overall I gave them 4 stars. For the positive review; 1. I have never gotten the impression that they don't care for my pets. On the contrary, I have found that they have given great attention to my pets. When Rudi had bloat surgery, the Doc (Dr. Smaltz) that performed the surgery gave me her personal number to call if i needed anything. She was absolutely wonderful. I recommend her highly! 2. The staff, with exception to my below negative review, has been very accommodating and very nice. They are very flexible schedule-wise and have customer friendly hours. For the negative review; I agree with Bryan S. about Dr Vincent Rozyczko to an extent. 1. Many times Dr. Rozyczko tried to get me to buy unnecessary items, ranging from specialty dog food to dental cleanings for my husky (Rudi). I did have Rudi's teeth cleaned there, and about a year later he recommended a cleaning- again! I couldn't believe it- especially because I am under the impression that it is unhealthy for dogs to undergo anesthesia multiple times (and Rudi had bloat surgery ~6 months before this 2nd teeth cleaning recommendation). I began to wonder whether my dog truly did need the other teeth cleaning, especially because he is only 6 years old and had one previous cleaning a few years ago. 2. Dr Rozyczko and one other person (not sure who- if it was a Doc or a tech) have talked down to me on a few occasions. I am no vet, nor do I claim to be, however I am scientist and tend to be more familiar with vet med more than the 'average Joe'. I didn't appreciate the condescending attitudes of these two people. 3. Dr Rozyczko has also told me contradictory things. I wont over elaborate on this point, so here is a quick example. Basically he insisted that I store my dog's urine sample at room temperature instead of 4 degrees (fridge) until I could bring it in because the colder temperature may cause crystals to precipitate out of solution. But when I brought in my sample, another Doctor said the sample could not be used due to improper storage (should have been stored in the fridge) The whole thing was frustrating and a waste of my time. Overall I gave 4 stars because I feel that one bad apple doesn't have to ruin the bunch. I really appreciated Dr. Smaltzs' sincerity and attitude. She was wonderful, and overall my positive experiences at Brookside outweigh my negative experiences there. read more

After our first visit to Brookeside Veterinary Hospital with our 6-month standard poodle, we decided that this was our GO TO vet clinic , and Dr. Rozyczko was the best veterinarian we have ever had. He neutered our dog using the laser method, which was fast, easy, with quick recovery and no bleeding. Dr. "R" is very pleasant, informative and comforting. I can't believe this place hasn't been shut down yet. As a former employee, the woman in charge of the facility is an idiot and violates most employee rights. She cares about money and has no management skills. I witnessed one of her vet techs smacking a dog on the nose for growling. Personally, I don't blame the dog. They always tried to cut corners on cost, which ended up with inadequate care for the pets boarded there. No night staff and a stressful environment being in small cages with almost no personal interaction. Plus, the staff was never properly trained. This place should be shut down. It's the reason I made caring for animals and understanding their behavior my life passion. Please go somewhere else. Dr. Rozyczko is a good vet, but Dr Smaltz had a bad bedside manner and was quite mean to clientele. One of my cats died in their care, but I can't prove it. read more

I have had good experiences with Brookside Vet. Contrary to other reviews, I have not felt pressured to provide unnecessary or overpriced services to my dog. In fact, we moved her from Lexington, Kentucky and I paid $250 to have my dog's teeth cleaned in 2005. She is 13 now and due for another cleaning. Brookside charges ~$120. They also will do a biopsy for $25 of a growth on my dog. In Lexington, I would have been charged hundreds of dollars for something like this. My vet in Lexington was recommending visits every 6 months and all these crazy expensive tests or treatments (even recommending exploratory surgery). Brookside, and in particular, Dr. Rozyczko, have NEVER pressured me into overpriced tests or procedures. I have found his advice to be sound and treatment to be caring. Overall, I cannot say that I have had the same experience with Brookside Vet that others have written about. I do think their facility is out of date and could use a remodel. Overall, I have had good experiences at Brookside; their staff is great, and I find their prices to be very reasonable. read more

I have been taking my pets to Brookside for over 20 years and have always been pleased with the care they have received. I live on the opposite side of town and when I first moved to A2 i went to a vet in the state/eisenhower area. They are part of a corporate chain and I felt as if they were often pushing special diets and treatments. i changed to Brookside when i took my dogs there for boarding. They always spend as much time as needed with my dogs and cats. I have also found that when I ask about the cost of a treatment or medicine they will discuss alternatives with me. An example is the fact that my previous vet had perscribed expensive allergy shots for one of my dogs, but at Brookside they suggested trying some different foods, which I was able to purchase at Petco. the dog's allergy problems did improve. I have also been very happy with their boarding and grooming services. read more

I misspelled Dr. Rozyzcko's name in my earlier review, and wanted to add that he is known as "Dr. R". What he did for my cat was to remove an nasty obstruction in her digestive tract. He and Dr. Smaltz had to weigh her advanced age against whether surgery would be effective. Dr. R therefore used less invasive measures, repeatedly. Good guy. read more

I've been taking my dog here for about two years. Pros: Dr. R is the best. He remembers much about my dog, always give followup calls, and even goes the extra mile to attend conferences and learn about the newest treatment and research for different conditions. Whenever my dog had a problem, he would always explain thoroughly what may be happening and present different treatment options and we would discuss which option I felt most comfortable putting my dog through. I see some other reviewers here are put off by the level of detail Dr. R sometimes gives, but I really appreciate all of it. I think it's important for the owner to be well-informed in order to make decisions, and I appreciate that options that I'm given - taking into account cost and the ability of my dog to undergo more conservative or more aggressive treatments. Dr. R is always very patient in discussing the pros and cons for a treatment plan. As for the pricing, I got the PetAssure insurance, and so there's about a 20% discount on many of the services, making visits much more affordable - particularly for elderly dogs. Cons: The facility is kind of old, but I suppose one could say it's "home-y." For a business that's been around animal droppings for more than 30 years, it's expected. The only other negative I can think of is that they seem to change staff in the front pretty often. Every couple of times I go, there is a new receptionist who is being trained or under training. In my opinion though, these don't bother me at all. I'm only naming them since it seems unfair to only put pros. It is the vet that makes a vet hospital good. The other details are not as important, as long as my dog is getting great care. read more

My family has taken our pets here for about 4 decades because we lived on the Northeast side. I have been taking my own dogs there on and off for 2 decades now. Nancy is the best. She has saved the life of one of my dogs that I thought I would have had to put down. Nancy did the needed surgery for literally half of what a vet across town quoted me. Over the years Brookeside has saved the lives of a few of my dogs when they needed major surgery. I have seen some complaints about Dr. Rozyczko listed here, and while I have only met with him with my dog once or twice he was always very helpful. A few others i know have also been loyal customers for many years and wouldn't go anywhere else. Looking back over many years I have always thought that they cared very much about my pets, and did everything they could to help them. read more

I have been taking my dogs to Brookside for 19 years. Dr. Nancy Smalz is my current dog's primary care provider. She was also the same with my previous dog. I have never been anything but pleased. She has been caring, reasonable and not expensive, thorough without overtesting. I wouldn't take my dog any other place. Dr R is excellent also, very informative and loves my dog. He wants to do more testing than Dr Smalz but always checks with me first. My first dog developed kidney disease and they taught me how to do infusions, were always available and compassionate. My dog lived a year longer than we all thought she would because of their intervention and assistance. I've boarded my dogs there over the years and they've been excellent and also groomed my dogs there. Nancy is an excellent groomer. I have had never had an issue with their care and believe they go out of their way to take great care of each dog I've had. They've even waited past closing time until I could get there when there was an immediate need. read more

If it was possible to give less stars I would. We have a bunny that we boarded at Brookside. When my 16 year old son went to pick him up he discovered that he was $1 short of being able to make the full payment. The employees at Brookside made him take the bunny (and all of his gear which there is quite a lot of) out of the car. He wasn't allowed to leave because he was $1 short. Rest assured that I would have made the payment. There was no intent to "steal" $1 from the Vet. The employee I spoke with (Wendy) said the Vet was very strict and wouldn't allow ANY deviation from a "payment in full policy." Which I understand - but for a buck? Really? That the employees involved couldn't see fit to rummage around in their collective purses and cupholders to scrounge up a buck to help a kid out I'm absolutely astounded. Has humanity really sunk this low? We are not new to Brookside, have boarded the bunny there before and have always paid in full, and I certainly would have paid this time. This experience speaks volumes as to the true nature of who they are. If this is how they treat kids I wonder how they treat the animals entrusted to their care. read more

I am writing this review in defense of Dr. Rozyczko and Brookeside because we have been going their for so long and our review is long overdue! We love the atmosphere at Brookeside - that it is off a dirt road with a barn, horses, and feral cats running around. Dr. R specifically is incredibly knowledgeable about animals and their physiology. He went to one of the best veterinary schools in the country and it shows. Maybe his bedside manner is a bit awkward, but for a CAT DUDE he's hardly a blip on the quirky radar. I do think that he could be less pushy with the vaccines, booster shots, flea and tick medication, special diets, etc., but vets stay in business largely because of these sales, so you can't blame them for at least trying. And as a paying customer you can always say NO! And ignore the guilt trip! Which is what we do most the time! read more

This place is dirty, dusty, and rusty. I would never leave my pets there for boarding. I only hope the surgery area is clean? Dr. Rozyczko seems to care much more about cats than dogs, which is a little disconcerting for me and my Dane. I saw another review that mentioned the owner talking down to a new girl; from what I hear, that's the norm. Explains why I don't see the same assistants ever. The only good thing about this place is Dr. Smaltz. She comes off as a bit distant, but she is a great doctor and willing to discuss what we needed and did not need. read more

I have been taking my animals to Dr. Nancy Smaltz and groomer Nancy J. for over 25 years and I have had good care given and good advice. I do my research on any condition diagnosed and make decisions based on their input and the results I am seeing. Some times the outcome is grim because our wondeful fur kids are broken beyond repair and care and comfort are the prescibed therapy, but this is always done with compassion and concern for the dignity of the animal. There are signs posted in each room that the owner may stay with the animal or they will be taken to the exam room. Never have they just taken the animal away without asking my preference. Some times it is hard for the owner to watch our kids being restrained and sometimes the animal acts up more if the owner is present. So again informed decisions should be made to expedite care that is comfortable. Like any relationship, communication and expectation have to be reasonable. The Veterenarians like any busines have had to raise their fees to "stay alive". There is no charge at Brookeside for the TLC that is delivered with honest and open love. Anna at the front desk is amazing, she rescues kitties and is just so loving to my pets. So Ed J. from Chicago you might be best served by receiving your veterinary care in Chicago. Your mean spirited comments are rude and over the top. But I believe that is a thread of life for you. And Brian, if I were your cat I would first scratch your evil eye out then pull all my fur out, you sissy boy. read more

It is funny reading the reviews about Brookside because you people are upset about the cost? I have been dealing with Brookside for over 30 years. They have saved two of my dogs by giving them 24 hrs of constant care and my dogs loved them. And when that terrible day came that we had to put them to sleep ...they were there with comfort and later a card to let us know they cared too. When I became unable to pay at the time of service, they have allowed me to pay the smallest amount without once treating me or my dog or cat different. When my dog needed surgery they did extras by pulling 4 teeth and lashering his paw at no cost. Because they care. And what I read is some small mind picking on a person ( not the care they received ) because they found mistakes in her letter. The only time you get a letter is when you promise to pay for a bill and then don't. I know we all have our opinions and mine is Dr. Smaltz has tried to help me save money because she knows I love my animals but at the moment I am unemployed. I have never dealt with Dr. Rozyczko so I have nothing to say but Brookside has always given my animals top rate care and the girl at the front desk, Anna, maybe she makes mistakes spelling but I grant you she has the biggest heart when it comes to caring for animals of all sizes.
