We have been going to Dr. Gorman for ~20 years and have ALWAYS been very satisfied with the care, starting with the front desk staff. the Vet Techs, assistants, and of course Dr. Gorman. They care for my personal pets as well as our dogs coming in to our Rescue. All get individualized, appropriate and emergency care as needed in a timely manner. There are many Vets closer to my home, but I'd rather drive further to come to Sheldon Veterinary Hospital where we can always get the proper and timely care needed by our beloved animals. We took the puppy to be neutered and he came out missing 5 teeth!! When Dr. Karla Gorman discovered our 6 month old puppy still had 5 baby teeth, she decided to extract the teeth- without our knowledge or consent. **No written explanation. **Not even a phone call.** This was done during our first and only visit to the clinic. Again, we took the puppy to be neutered and he came out missing 5 teeth!! A good vet will remember that there is always a pet owner attached to their patient. Even if pulling his teeth was well-intentioned, she was wrong to perform the procedure without our knowledge or permission. I am surprised to see several one-star negative reviews and am sorry those folks were not satisfied, but my experience has been right there with the five-star reviews. Dr. Gorman is very careful to let the pet owner determine what services the dog will receive. She will never push anything on a pet and is knowlegable on holistic treatments. read more

I've tried numerous vets that are a lot closer to my house but none can compare. Dr. Goreman is extremely caring and well versed on newer veterinary philosophies with a focus on overall health. She doesn't push the, "neuter your animals and load them up with vaccines" approach I've run into at more money grubbing offices. She gives advice on more natural, over the counter, and affordable care options and only goes to the more traditional treatments when/if necessary. Her first question was, "what do you feed your animals?" That right there should tell you everything you need to know about her in that diet is the primary source of all health issues in animals. She doesn't push some Science Diet junk on you and I don't even see food for sale in the office. In fact, she will help you feed a balanced raw diet if you're so inclined. read more

Dr Gorman is one of the most caring and genuine veterinarians I've found. We've been going there for about 8 years and have always been happy. She can readily recommend unconventional treatments and health food store items that can help without piling on the medications. It's not a flashy office, kind of a throw back really but it works. Dr. Gorman and her staff were wonderful, and made time to see my dog on an emergency basis on a Friday when our regular veterinarian would not fit us in. My dog was diagnosed with pneumonia, so it is a good thing we did not wait until Monday. Everyone was very friendly and very sweet to my dog, and Dr. Gorman was very thorough in making her diagnosis. In addition, the bill I received was half the price I anticipated. We will definitely be using this hospital as our regular veterinary practice. read more

I want to strongly urge you to not take your animals here. I went to see Dr. Gorman on a Saturday. My cat needed her anal glands expressed and Dr.Gorman suggested that they use gas anesthesia to have her asleep during the procedure. My cat has had gas anethesia before and has handled it with no problems. Well, when my cat woke up she was EXTREMELY sick. She was shaking and could not walk and was very lethergic. They told me that she would be fine and sent me on my way. My cat was NOT fine. In fact, she started vomitting. Over and over again. When I called Dr. Gorman's office, no one was there as it was Saturday. Turns out this cold-hearted bitch doesn't feel the need to list an emergency number in case she poisons an animal. Her voicemail did direct me to an a vet ER that was nearby. I took my cat here and they wanted to keep her overnight. Except they said I had to pay $1,800 dollars UP FRONT for them to do this "or she may die". I called a vet I used to go to and she helped me nurse my cat back to health. It turns out my cat was hypothermic, a reaction to an overdose of the anesthesia. My other vet's help is the ONLY reason I believe my cat is still alive. When I reached Dr.Gorman on Monday, she took absolutely NO responsibility. She said it was my fault because I didn't ask for a blood test before having the gas anethesia done. I am not in the animal care field and could not have known to ask for this. I asked if this is what she would say if my cat had died, she said yes. She said that my cat is probably severely ill to have a reaction like this, yet when I took her to another vet...she was pronouced COMPLETELY HEALTHY. Dr.Gorman is an evil, irresponsible vet. I fully believe that she (or her staff) gave my cat the wrong dose of the gas anesthesia. I say this to you from the bottom of my heart: Please protect your beloved pets from her. She will not look out for you or animals, especially in case of emergency. read more

I've went to several vets in the past, most of them very good & caring, and started seeing Dr Gorman when we became active in a local dog rescue group. Dr Gorman is by far the best vet we have ever worked with. She is patient & caring and won't give up on your dog even when the diagnosis is not the best. She is very active in the local Collie rescue and usually has a few of her own Collies keeping company in the office each day. She has helped us through our toughest rescue dogs and I've seen her bring back several dogs who were in really bad shape when they came into the group and given them many years of good life they would not have otherwise enjoyed. Dr Gorman is very active in promoting reduced pharmaceutical treatment. Her first question always seems to be "what are you feeding her/him?" Nutrition comes first, then medicines as needed. She is very sensitive to patients with limited budgets and is very happy to work with you to keep cost of treatment reasonable. I'm so happy that after many years of looking, I've finally found the best veterinarian I could ever hope for. She will be the only doctor I use from now on. I cannot recommend her highly enough. read more

When releasing records they do not release them all. I had called 3 times and was assured that they were sent. I didn't not receive the bloodwork that was requested, and when trying to call back to ask again they would not answer the phone. When going over what was sent, I noticed that a different animals records were written on the sheet. I feel as this is unacceptable and this should not be an issue when it comes to caring for patients. It should be about the care of the animal not about money. read more

Compare prices here to any vet & you will see you are being ripped off like crazy. I just found out my entire family has been being ripped off by them over pricing things & constantly pressuring you to do things that are unnecessary. Dr Gorman goes to work, clocks in & clocks out. That's how she treats it. No compassion, no real thought into any diagnosis. Useless really. Unfortunately it was too late until we realized how helpless of a dr she is. My sister dog was already past any point of being helped after misdiagnosis & unanswered calls for weeks. Not to mention thousands of dollars. If you love your pet, you will go somewhere else. Not to mention the front desk staff has NO business working the front desk. They don't know any of the pricing/fee schedules & never know any answers when you call. I was bamboozled for far too long. She found an issue with my German Shepherd that no other vet could diagnose (yeast problem of all things) and she was able to treat it easily, NATURALLY (thru diet), and quickly! After my dog had surgery, I contacted Dr. Gormans office with a concern about how one of his incisions was healing. I was told she couldn't speak with me at that time, so I asked if I could send a picture by email. I did, and never received a response. A few days later he started vomiting from the antibiotic and I wanted to know if it would be OK to discontinue it, considering one of the incision sites was a bit inflamed. Again, I was unable to speak to Dr. Gorman, and was told I would have to bring him in and no effort at all was made to fit us in to her schedule. When I asked why I had received no response to my email, I was told that the office manager had decided I had to bring him in, but no one ever contacted me with that information. I know people who have taken their pets to other vets and received follow up calls the next day & even cards! I didn't expect that - but the complete lack of concern that was shown after a serious (and expensive!) surgery was very upsetting - especially after someone had screwed up the surgery apt., forgot to contact me after I emailed, and also called me when I was half way through my hour-long drive to pick him up after surgery to tell me he couldn't go home until an hour later than planned! Luckily, I found a vet (that I had never even seen before!) that was able to fit us in the next day to check him out and ease my mind. I really like Dr. Gorman and think she did a good job on the surgery, as far as I can tell, but dealing with her office staff was definitely not a good experience. read more

I totally agree with Kat L. Short version-took our cat to her because she was the first vet I found and was close. We had taken in a stray cat who started throwing up and couldn't keep anything down. First thing she did was look at his teeth (he had been in a fight or something and had lost a tooth) She said he was "8 or 9 years old"- First of all, he looked and acted like a young (maybe 2 yr old) cat then. Now, over 5 years later, there is no way he is 12 or 13 as active as he is!! Then she did blood work and gave him an IV (I will give her credit for that, he was dehydrated and that helped) She sent us home with an antiobiotic for him. The bill for that first visit was over $400. What really set us off-our cat got sick again about 2 weeks later and when I called to make an appt. I was told she was "on vacation" for 2 weeks and when I asked if she had a backup vet they said no ?!?!?! What kind of vet leaves town for 2 weeks without a backup for emergencies?????? Thank God we found Roose Animal Hospital!! I called them and they got us in right away. They kept our cat for a couple of days. He is FIV+ and has IBS and asthma flair ups. We take him there once a month for medicine that helps him live a normal life. They have 2 or 3 vets there and would never just close the office and leave their clients hanging. That was my main gripe with Goreman..although now I also see that Roose is a much better animal hospital and less expensive too. read more
