I've had this spot bookmarked for a while and never managed to go here even when I lived in neighborhood. Finally had a chance and I'm happy I did so! The cafe is super cute and intimate. Pretty limited seating and extremely busy in the weekends. I also wonder if it's overflowing from Baby Blues right next door. I got the strawberry matcha latte, the smoked salmon onigiri and the tamago sando. The sando is amazing. I would keep come back for that over and over. The onigiri however was kinda mid? It felt like it was 75% rice and hardly any filling, but the filling with really nice and it was all well salted. I do think Kijitora has the best strawberry matcha in the neighborhood but this is a close second. Definitely make a visit. I enjoyed the Katsu Don as well, I just really wished it had some sort of sauce because I found it to be quite dry, which was my only complaint. The ambience is that of a recently abandoned garden. There really isn't that much seating but when I went around noon on a Sunday, there was really only one guy working on his laptop while everyone else took their orders to go. Love their heavy steel door that looks very retro and vintage. There are cute patio chairs and tables and a high table on the side for indoor dining. There is outdoor seating too and a garbage can by the door for discarding trash. Many utensils in an organized shelf to grab along with condiments for coffee and drinks. There is also a bathroom towards the end that is gender neutral. There used to be a 2nd level but due to the pandemic, it is closed down and nobody can go up anymore. I got the tiramisu matcha latte and it was very sweet and good. Not too much sugar and not too sweet. Very high quality matcha and fresh. Drink was coated with a lot of matcha powder on the top and I had to mix it in with the rest of the matcha latte. TLDR - awesome coffee for a great price in a fun place I knew forever that this place was supposed to have good coffee , but for a long time I only went to cafes where I could sit and enjoy myself. I find myself doing a lot more takeout coffee these days which has opened up a bunch of new options , and this is by far the best. Outstanding specialty coffee , probably all light roast , for the best prices anywhere . An eight ounce drip of great coffee is $2.50 . I used to go to the place for a veggie sandwich, which was awesome; They don't offer it anymore, and I haven't had food there in about five years, but, it looks good. Not sure if this is a feature or a bug but the staff doesn't speak extensive English, so it is hard to ask any questions about the coffee, which I regret because I love to talk coffee, but it definitely contributes positively to the vibe. Came to try some of their onigiri - I think we came at a somewhat busy time since I felt we waited a little bit for what we ordered - two onigiri bentos and the chicken sandwich. I did enjoy the roe and the salmon but the pork was okay and I didn't try the sour plum. I think the sandwich would've been better if it wasn't wrapped as it steamed a little bit. Really cute Japanese cafe! The space is pretty small, but luckily my partner and I were able to find a spot to sit. We ordered a Tamago Sando to share, a Hojicha Latte, and Matcha Latte. Both lattes were sweetened. For how busy the cafe was on a Sunday afternoon, our food came out relatively quickly. I really liked the Tamago Sando. My favorite matcha spot in South Williamsburg (bc really, there aren't many spots closeby unless you go to Bedford stop). Drankz: I'm addicted to their hojicha lattes - even unsweetened they are (chefs kiss). You can either get it sweetened or unsweetened, nothing in btwn (but you can add your own sweetener on the side). Food: I've gotten their onigiris quite a few times as well - I will say it's 90% rice (think that's how it usually is anyways but not sure) but it's still fire! This is reliably one of my favorite coffee shops in the neighborhood! Always quality drinks, especially their matcha. I love that they carry Topo Chico too. Espresso drinks are very good. For the coffee nerds, looks like they have the Japanese vacuum siphon contraptions, although I myself have never ordered it. They have a food menu, and I usually get the onigiri (which are always tasty). The space itself is quite gorgeous, industrial with lots of greenery. They used to have a cool rooftop you could go chill on, but it's closed now and the stairs are blocked off (unfortunately). Service is always friendly. Can't wait to drop by again! read more
