Came here on a Saturday evening with a friend with no reservation. This place seems to be perfect for lone solo bar go-ers, cozy girl's night out, or a quiet escapade for couples. The service was good. The server gave us her recommendations for cocktails when she saw us struggling to decide. My friend got the Sumire Fizz and I got the Caipisake. I was very happy with my cocktail choice as it was sweet and refreshing. I don't think it contained that much sake but good nonetheless. We also ordered chicken karaage (paired with a slice of lemon and a side of sauce), the crazy tuna, and the toro trio. Our favorite was the crazy tuna. The fish were all fresh and would defs come back here again if we're in the area in the future. Highly recommend the Caipisake and the crazy tuna! read more

I may have just eaten at the best sushi spot that I've experienced here on the East Coast... no cap. I've definitely not had as much sushi as I have on the west coast because it's not as good however I would go out of my way to dine at Bushniwa again. I came in on a whim with friends before doing a night out. They were able to accommodate our party of 8 right away. I love that they have a huge wooden table that is perfect for large parties. The servers were attentive and efficient, making sure that everyone's orders came out around the same time and that we had separate checks (truly doing the Lords work with this one lol) I had their Rock roll (shrimp tempura with spicy tuna and eel tempura) and their spicy yellowtail. YUMM! I wish I saw more spicy yellowtail on other restaurants menu because this was delicious. Some of my friends got their dinner sushi platter which came with soup and nigiri and they said they felt very satisfied with the portion and the price. I loved it here. Solid spot with a fair price point, but the rice really threw the tasting off. We arrived around 9:00 PM, so maybe it was an off night, but the rice was noticeably too firm and that texture dominated the otherwise well-prepared fish. Service and atmosphere were pleasant, and the fish itself showed good quality and balance. If they can dial in the rice consistently, this would be a go‑to sushi bar for the neighborhood. The slider was a bit over priced for the portion so just keep in mind most of the starters are potentially one piece. Service was a little slow but overall not a real complaint. Ambiance and decor are very cute and intimate, although I would have preferred a little more space between the tables. It's New York though! We were not disappointed - the service was great, ambiance was relaxing, and food was delicious. Our server Cala, gave us impeccable recommendations and was such a fantastic host. I traveled to Brooklyn to see my daughter, and since my birthday was last week, she wanted to take me and my gf for dinner. We narrowed it down to sushi, and then two choices. We selected Bushniwa, and I'm glad we did. We started with gyōza, served upside down under a cover of something crispy. I'm not sure what it was, except delicious. The gyōza were perfectly cooked and flavorful. We also got edemame, steamed and fresh. We ordered three rolls, Crazy Tuna, Hot Dragon, and Roll of Kings. I think Roll of Kings was my favorite, but all were good, and the crab was real! The manager and server were very attentive and friendly, and brought a complimentary homemade black sesame ice cream for celebration. We also ordered Mille crepe, a 22 layer Japans sweet potato based dessert. Don't miss it! The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, the food was great, the staff friendly, and the cost reasonable. A friend booked this place for dinner and I thought it would be just another overpriced hipster Japanese spot. After all, it's right in the heart of Bushwick and has that modern design with black walls and hanging plants. Turns out I loved it! We got the sashimi platter to share, it was absolutely delightful - each person got over a dozen pieces of fish and a bowl of rice or salad. Also tried the pork buns and the vegetable gyozas, both of which were very good. Service was great and music wasn't too loud, it was perfect for an intimate dinner. Decided to check this place out, when visiting family in nyc, this is one of my brother and his wife's favorite places so I'm glad I got to check in out for myself. The service here is great, so friendly! However not over bearing. Which I love. We had delicious matcha margaritas! One of my new favorite drinks, I also tried the blushing gheshia, which was also tasty. For food we had, edemame, which is one of my favorites, we also had veggie dumplings, and some delicious seasoned shrimp. They have a wide variety of items on the menu, from starters and appetizers, rolls and specialty rolls, sushi and sashimi, to dinner plates, soup, noodles, sweets, and more! Some of my go-to's are the shrimp tempura and Philadelphia rolls. They are mighty in size and taste. Their house salad & dressing and miso soup are tasty too! Saturday night dinner for 2. We sat at the beautiful wood bar. Everything about this place felt good! I noticed and appreciated every detail from the soaring high ceilings to the skylight, the plants decorating the walls and the wood-theme that makes this interior feel warm yet very elevated. Even the tap water has mint leaves in it which makes a typically mundane object artistic. The sushi rolls were delicious and I will be back to try more. I had reservations, but for a Friday late dinner the place wasn't packed but there was still a good amount people here. The waitress asked me if I wanted a table or to sit at the bar and I opted for the bar to not take up too much space. Miso soup: it came as part of the meal I think! Tasted like miso soup, nothing special or bad about it. Good start to the meal however because it was chilly outside! 6.8/10 Chicken karaage: I believe these were around $12? I thought there would be more than 5 pieces, but the pieces themselves were a little bigger than I'm used to! The chicken was tender, I would've liked it a little more crispy for the outside as well. It came with some green salt that I loved. The mayo sauce was nothing crazy for me. 7.6/10 Sushi plate: for $35 I would think this is fair! It comes with a spicy tuna roll as well! Overall I thought the quality of sushi was pretty good, size was just lacking. I also had repeated pieces of nigiri which made me sad there wasn't more variety. I've been here a few time in the afternoon and I've been able to catch their lunch specials. You def get more for your buck when you get a lunch special but they have similar items on the dinner menu. I've only had the tempura veggies and shrimp with rice as a main. I don't know most of the vegetables they tempura lol but it's good. I don't really like the sauce that comes with it so I usually get a side of eel sauce. It's a nice hidden gem to get some peace and quiet and good food alone. I don't know how busy it is for dinner but I know it's usually only a few people the time I go. read more

Been here plenty before COVID, but returned recently and it was better than I remembered. We chose to sit indoors, where every table is separated by a plexiglass-ish barrier. The space was not cramped, and I felt safe. They would even take your temperatures at the entrance and would get info for contact tracing. Tried a toro hand roll, some tempura, and the rib eye. On the end of an industrial street, you'll find this hidden gem. The sushi is super fresh and delicious. I also tried the dragonfruit cocktail - the taste got better as I drank. Do you remember that bad cheap sushi that one time? Imagine that but with fresher ingredients but still it's somehow worse because you were expecting so much more. Two biggest issues are the rice and the fish. The rice is similar to grocery store sushi rice that has been sitting until the end of the day. The fish was raw sashimi was so thick it but bland it tastes like biting into licorice without flavor. Cut doesn't affect fish taste much but the texture was just so rubbery you might as well have gotten that $7 roll from your local sushi place and the quality would have somehow tasted better. I have to give this place one star because they won't let me give no stars at all. Let me describe what I consider to be a completely disgusting and horrid experience. My partner and I are big sushi fans and I cannot even explain the excitement he had about coming to this place. We searched for hours for a spot in Brooklyn to devour our favorite cuisine. He told me that he had been wanting to try this place for some time and I had seen it on several occasions but never went. So we thought what a perfect opportunity to go on a date and celebrate each other's company as we usually do. We entered the establishment and were greeted with a smile and asked if it was okay to sit at the bar. As individuals who have both worked in the service industry, we pride ourselves on getting to know our servers and bartenders. We know very well what it is like to work in the industry and we always want to show love and the utmost support and respect. We sat in the middle of the bar and I noticed something was off. I wasn't sure if it was me but I realized our bartender hadn't asked us anything. I attributed it to it being somewhat busy at the rez but as far as I could feel...it wasn't anything overwhelming. I finally got their attention and asked for water. Keep in mind- this is about 10 minutes we've already been waiting. I asked my partner "is she not looking at us on purpose?" He didn't want to corroborate my feelings because he wanted to remain calm and hopeful for a good experience. So I let it go. I noticed again the bartender not really engaging with us at all, but was head over heels over the patrons at the end of the bar and the other patron who came in after us. The food arrives but her energy again just felt very dismissive. Food came, but we received not cutlery, napkins, or much service beyond that. It seemed as if we were totally forgotten about for the most part. No matter how many times I tried to get this person's attention...I just couldn't seem to fully grab them. We were left for the lack of a better term "hanging". It got to the point where I was clearly uncomfortable and asked my partner if he could wrap it up, but he had just ordered something else. So I held myself again and waited patiently. When I finally got their attention towards the end of our meal after another 10-15 minutes of waiting and barely any servicing at all...I asked for the check. It was evident to my partner that we were truly being dismissed and I was hoping that it wasn't because of our clear blackness but the micro-aggressive behavior was running absolutely rampant. Despite me asking for the check I ended up waiting yet another 10 minutes because I was being ignored. I had watched the bartender not look at me at all and then proceed to give someone their check who had asked for it a few minutes after me as well as take on a totally new couple at the bar and offer them so much of everything we were without. My partner went out for a smoke because he was feeling the stress. When he came back inside and realized I had been ignored yet again and was still without the check, he was so upset. I said "let's try something. I bet you if we step outside they'll come out behind us right away because they're gonna think that we tried to dine and dash." I love my partner so much because he trusted me with this and followed my lead. I don't even know why I was surprised when the bartender came out less than 20 seconds later to tell us we hadn't paid the check and that we need to pay. I was in disbelief. I was so angry because I realized this individual was indeed being prejudiced and took it upon themselves to treat me and my partner like absolute shit because of whatever assumptions or preconceived notions they already had about us. About our evident blackness. I asked to talk to a manager because I refused to talk to someone who didn't want to talk to me all night and they tried to make an excuse but I ended up speaking to someone else. They gave us a measly 20% off our bill. I honestly felt so sick to my stomach after that experience. To take it upon yourself and to deny me of my humanity is a sin against us all. We are so much better than that. It made me feel like I was worthless . In this world we are living this, behavior like this should be reprimanded and 100% never allowed to permeate this society. I will never be attending this establishment and I hope they learn from their ways and do better. I highly doubt it though. Still mortified by their actions and lack of accountability.
