I love their NY style pizza and we've been ordering a cheese pizza regularly. Got fancy today and ordered pepperoni and mushroom. The pizza arrived with sufficient pepperoni and scarcely one piece of mushroom per slice. When we called and spoke to the owner he said because we had ordered two toppings they give us less of one. So stick with the cheese. $24 is way too expensive to get shorted. Deliberately. The owner's resolution was next time ask for extra mushrooms. Hmmm. Totally not impressed. I used to live in NY and the only thing this pizza has in common is being thin and flat. Here, you pick a slice of cold pizza from a display window, they reheat it and bring it to you. It's greasy, floppy and completely flavorless. Even the garlic bread twist (with garlic and butter all over it) had ZERO flavor! How do garlic and butter manage to just taste like grease? Yuck. Just yuck. Yucky food at dirty tables. What a find!! This pizza place is fabulous! I've driven by this place so many times, and I really regret not stopping in. My husband and I swung in and ordered a couple of slices and some baked Penne. The pizza was fantastic! The penne was also very very satisfying. I ordered a slice of... well I don't exactly know what it was called, but it had spinach, tomato, and garlic on it... and it was 'oh my god' good!!! The best pizza since I was in Manhattan! There is no comparison to any of my local pizzerias in Orange County where I currently live touting themselves as "New York". The crust is perfect, the cheese premium as are the toppings. Just wish they were closer but I always pick up a pie when coming back from San Diego or Oceanside. This is seriously the best pizza around!! These guys are from Brooklyn and definitely brought over some awesome recipes. The combo is 2 slices of pizza and a soda for $6.50. Best $6.50 you can spend. And it's not cheese or pepperoni, I had slices of fresh spinach and tomato, and pep, spinach and mushroom. They had many more to choose from. You won't regret coming here! read more

I must say two stars because the garlic bread rolls saved us, however seriously the Pizza was very distasteful, bland and the thin crust was not good at all. Sad to give these 2 stars because the owner seems really nice. But....maybe improvements can be made. We were visiting from northern California 2 separate families total of 6 of us and we all agreed not good at all. The closest thing to New York pizza in North county and that's coming from a jersey girl. Floppy and foldy: check. Red sauce: just right. Cheese blend: ooey gooey. Wow really disappointed with the flavour and taste of the pizza. It lacked flavour the dough tasted like cardboard. The tomato sauce was bland. The toppings and cheese were like glue. I hate to be the only person who had a bad experience at this place. This is my first time to try this place, and everyone says great things....we ordered pizza and wings to go for the game and the wings had so much sauce I couldn't tell what I was eating and the pizza was very greasy. I don't mind wings that are slopped with sauce or greasy pizza, but tonight was over the line. The most disappointing thing was when we called and talked to the owner he just said that's how people in NYC like it???? Firstly, you should know I'm an Italian kid from the Bronx. The big decision every day at lunch and dinner time was WHAT I was going to order from the Pizzeria. Maybe once a week I had Chinese, but otherwise... So, Kevin and Dennis used to run "Gino's" in El Cajon and then in Poway before they worked at Bronx Pizza in Hillcrest. We basically stalked them and were psyched to find out they began to run their own place again: BrooklynBoyz. To be clear, this is the best NY style pizza I have had in California, including the good places in LA (Village, Mullberry St., Lamonicas) and in San Francisco (Little Star, Delfina, Arinell). They are simply the best, hands down. They use the best ingredients, which comes through in all of their cooking. Their pizza crust, particuarly after the pie settles, is stiff and crisp. Most importantly, their sauce, which is the achillies heel of most california pizza, is the real deal. The also do a chicken cutlet parm which could have sold in my old neighborhood in the Bronx and they are the only (!) place i have found which does FRIED calzones. You absolutely MUST try them. Great guys, great food and a great vibe in the place, especially for people who grew up in NYC or those who want to check out what "new york pizza" is all about. If I lived in North County, I'd probably be 300 pounds because of them. Suffice to say, go and try it. And then keep going until you've tried everything they cook. I'm a native New Yorker, and have been on a quest for good pizza since I moved to CA in '08. I was just about to throw in the towel when I found this place. This is the closest to real NY-style pizza you'll probably find in the San Diego area. The slices are big and foldable, with just enough sauce & cheese, and a perfectly thin crisp (but not too crisp) crust. Haven't tried a sandwich or a calzone, but a friend from NJ gave the thumbs up to the strombolis. I can't wait to go back! Yummm! read more

I grew up in Brooklyn and have been lucky enough to have eaten the best for a good part of my life. First, to those who say it's too greasy, here's a fact for you. If you take a slice of pizza and fold it and then hold it upside down (which you should never do) and the oil doesn't drip off of it, it's NOT!!! pizza. Tonight was my first time using door dash, and the first time trying thisplsce. I was excited because the restaurant had 4 stars. Boy, was I wrong. I ordered a baked ziti, chicken wings, and a flatbush pizza. All of the food was extremely greesy. I asked for the chicken wings to be twice baked and they were not. They were overly smothered in sauce and not very appetizing. The pizza crust was alright, but that's really the only part. It was a "ten minute" pizza at best. We definitely at it after ten minutes and all the cheese was horrible and plasticy. There was suppose to be garlic on it, but I didn't taste or smell it. The baked ziti was alright but definitely has a layer of greese. So, thats pretty gross. I am pretty dissatisfied. Next time I'll pay the extra money and just order from pizza port. Authentic New York pizza - just listen to the guys behind the counter! Price is very reasonable - $6 gets you two big slices and a soda and for $9.50 make that soda a beer. $2 gets you three garlic knots that are completely stacked with butter and garlic - delicious! HIGHLY recommend the lasagna pizza and pesto pizza. Small but sweet beer selection - i took a Stone IPA. If you're in the area definitely worth a Thursday/Friday night dinner. read more

I got the spinach, pepperoni and mushroom and it was like eating a saltine cracker with hardly anything on it. The garlic knots were just as bad, a ball of dough with melted butter and garlic salt. BLAH! We order a pitcher of Shock Top beer and usually anywhere they sell that would have slice oranges, not this place. As an East Coaster, it's hard to find good pizza out here. This place is legit - thin crust, perfect sauce, and deliciously greasy. They also have tons of creative pizzas if you're into that, but you can't go wrong with their pepperoni. read more

Since moving to California this is the best calzone that I had since leaving New York

We were really looking forward to a really good calzone based on the reviews, but we were really disappointed. Maybe because it was closing time, but our calzone had EXTREMELY LITTLE meat (we asked for meatballs and pepperoni); it was however stuffed with a huge amount of ricotta cheese, which made the whole thing difficult to cut. There was no flavor at all -- the calzone did not have any sauce inside; the sauce was served separately. A slice of NY style cheese pizza we ordered was mediocre at best. Best pizza in N County. Food is great and so is the staff. It's one of the very few places in California that I will actually eat pizza.

Large selection of pizzas by the slice for a great price is the best way to describe this place. 2 giant slices of pizza and a draft beer for $8 is an awesome deal. I like Knockout's pizza better, but enjoyed eating and drinking here a lot more than Knockout. Also they have a large selection of other Italian meals here as well. read more
