I was born and raised in Brooklyn so the Brooklyn Bridge holds a special place in my heart. I haven't walked the bridge in about 10 years and a lot has changed. It is wayyyyy busier and there are a lot of little vendors that sell really cheap souvenirs (tip for tourists), drinks (cans and bottled) and ladies selling fruits. There are two lanes. One for walkers and one for bikers. It is nice to respect each other and stay on your designated side. It is free to walk the bridge and also very fun and relaxing. I recently took the walk by myself and had a great time. I chatted with some of the vendors and took in the scenery. Even though it is busy, you are still able to get a picture without so many people if you take your time. I always enter from the Brooklyn side, no specific reason why. If you are a tourist I wouldn't recommend wasting money on a "tour" unless you can't google the history yourself. Tours restrict your time. It may be better to roam for free. If you go to New York you have to go on the Brooklyn bridge and take a picture. - it's a tourist thing and it's busy! My fiancé and I walked here from the New York side at the end of January. It wasn't that cold and it was kind of windy. Anyway there's a whole bunch of tables set up at the end of the bridge on the NY side with souvenirs; keychains, posters, post cards, etc. very cheap too! Like $1 ea. Or 10 for $5 - not a bad deal. As for the bridge itself it's so packed. There's a lane designated for bikers are they will honk or yell at you if you're in there and will run you over if you don't move lol. They will not slow down. It's hard to get a picture on the bridge when it's busy. Everyone's taking their selfies with the lovely buildings. And people are constantly asking others if they can take pictures for them. I mean, just get your picture and get out lol. You don't have to actually walk the whole bridge. You seen it you took a picture so get out lol. read more

We wanted to bike the Brooklyn Bridge and since we had rented bikes to ride around in Central Park the day before we had a coupon for this place. We spent $26 for two bikes, including the insurance.The rentals come with a basket, helmet, and a lock, but all of the extras are optional. They recommend renting bikes for three hours, but we opted for two and that ended up being more than enough for us as we ended up not doing the full loop and decided to make our way to the bridge after seeing the Statue of Liberty. The guys at the shop are nice and helpful. I definitely recommend this place. read more

BBS is two stars, tops. The extra star is only for the sheer jubilation I felt after finally getting to ride a bike in so many years, the breeze coming off the Hudson, the hot sun guaranteeing that my shoulders will turn a nice teak the morning after, the way an ice cold drink feels down your throat after a good ride. Basically, if I had a good place to store a bike, I would totally get one. As it currently stands, my only options are renting a Citibike or renting a bike from BBS and mentally screaming at all the actual tourists milling about in Battery Park to get out of the bike lane. But back to BBS. We stopped at the rental shop in the high 40s, where the guy tried to coax us into going for three hours. We were only really interested in biking down to Battery Park and maybe come back up, time permitting, but he made it sound like it would take us two hours, peddling non-stop, just to get down there. Nope. We made it to their 110 South Street headquarters in an hour (including the time it took to find the bike path AND try to swerve around entire families wandering aimlessly) and then biked up in another hour. The rates are $15 for an hour and $20 for two hours. The website says that you get a helmet, a map, and a chain and lock for free with your rental, but the guy didn't offer us a helmet and a map would have been completely useless in the madness that was downtown. You really have to look for the bike symbols stamped into the pavement and we had to stop and look around at some points. Was it worth it to try it one time? Most definitely. I would argue that nothing beats speeding down the bike path. read more

Bought groupon for 2 hour guided tour for 2 for $38 Called to make a reservation and the guy said none was needed - just show up. We show up for our tour and the same guy proceeds to say they only have 1 guided tour a day which is at 11:00am. This information would have been helpful when i called earlier. He says he can give us our bikes to go out on our own for 4 hours. Not really what we wanted but we did anyways. -NO Helmets provided. -Bikes have no bells. -Even in low gear can sometimes be difficult to pedal up an incline -A crappy Map that does not have much. -The guy looked so bored and offered not tips or advice. After 1 hour and 20 mins...we returned the bikes and were done with our Brooklyn exploring. We rented bicycles here to take a stroll over the Brooklyn Bridge and around Brooklyn. The service was good. They were very friendly and made sure we get our baskets, maps and chains that we needed. The bikes were good and they adjusted it to our heights without asking. The pricing seems fair as well. You can't beat the experience of bike riding around manhattan and up the Brooklyn bridge and down in 2 hours. You can get a mens bike, women's bike or tandem. They have baskets on the women's bikes, in case you have a small backpack, some of the mens bikes have bottle holders. Safety hemets and bike locks are available upon request. You will be on the bike path for the most part but you will have to navigate some roads and traffic with the guide. We get there at 10.45 ready for our 11.00 tour. Expect some lazy pedestrians who do not keep to their side of the bridge and wander over to get sone wide angle pictures. Keep your hand on your right rear brake. Bring a hat and cold water bottle as it does get hot. You can but insurance for the bike for $2 which covers flat tires and any damage/ theft to the bike. 4 stars, if you can ride, this is a fun romp! read more

So its Summer Streets and a group of us decided to rent bikes last year. We rented them on their website rather than in person since it was way cheaper. 4hrs $19 when we arrived the guy was not mr cheery in the least. My friends had to wait forever to get their bikes since he was the only worker. Shop ran out of locks and baskets. Returning the bike was an entire event also. System charged me overtime fees bc by the time he got to me it was over the timeframe. Smfh! He did however fix and take it off my bill. On a busy Saturday a business should have more than 1 worker and not run out of main items. FYI they hold your ID until you return the bike. read more

I would never book this company again. We booked a Brooklyn Bridge Bike tour this past weekend. We arrived on time and the two men at the counter got our bikes. Literally three minutes into the tour, my daughter (14) kept sliding off the bike seat (a problem that easily could have been avoided had someone on the staff checked to see if her bike was good and fit for her before heading out) The tour guide told us to return the bikes to the shop because we could not catch up (and apparently they could not wait the five minutes, which I kind of understand but not really.... ) Anyhow, we returned the bikes and the man at the counter said that he could not refund us (which was strange that his credit card machine could charge but not refund?) and then he tried to give me SOMEONE ELSE'S driver's license. Thankfully I am honest and didn't run off with it but he must have forgotten he handed mine back with my credit card. This is a strange procedure in this day and age that they are keeping customers credit card and license and apparently have zero protocol in place to ensure that they are safeguarding this information, as evidenced by the fact that he looked at the picture of a brunette woman with short hair from MA and handed it to me, a blonde woman with long hair from CT. I certainly did not feel my personal information was secure here. So he told me I had to call the main phone number to get my refund and that's where the real fun began! I know that this is a New York based business but please. Just TRY to provide some semblance of customer service. When I called (after emailing with no response per their recorded voicemail) the woman who answered the phone started YELLING over me when I asked how to receive my refund saying that refunds are only provided 24 hours in advance, and well. "It's clearly on their website!!" I told her we would have been happy to take the tour but my daughter was not fitted for her bike properly (not our fault) and were unable to. No mention on her side of helping, making it right, or heaven forbid, an APOLOGY for wasting our time, cab fare etc getting there! ZERO customer service. I was the one who had to ask if I could even take another tour! Her attitude was "too bad so sad you are out $100" I asked if another tour could be found and she said she would reply to my email with options. Shockingly, a WEEK has gone by, I have sent THREE emails and no one has responded. I will have to dispute the charge with my credit card company. We had a bad experience at the Brooklyn Bridge location. We are experienced bikers and rented 3 bikes. We did not get the insurance because biking is part of our daily lives and we take good care of any bike. The rented bikes did not handle well from the start but since it was a beautiful day we decided to ignore this and to soldier on. Once we had crossed the Brooklyn Bridge, the derailer came off one of the bikes and we could not continue our bike ride. We had to walk back to the rental place. The clerk did not even need to look at the bike - strangley, she already knew what had happened. She refused to give us a refund for the 3 remaining hours we had booked, plus she charged us for the repair of the bike. We could not object since the clerk refused to return my ID unless we paid up. The whole experience was hostile and ruined the day AND WAS VERY EXPENSIVE! There were several RED FLAGS we should not have ignored: They don't take AMEX - so you can't dispute the charge. There is a good number of bad reviews about Bikes Unlimited out there. The clerk was sullen and unfriendly. The bikes are not in great shape. We have rented bikes from many other places like Bike Rent NYC which is fantastic. So we know the difference. read more

Beautiful tour! My best friend and I decided that we were going to get of our houses on our days off and stop being lazy and explore our amazing city that's only minutes away! So what better thing to do than to bike through lower manhattan and across the Brooklyn bridge! We arrived at our destination with a groupon for our bike rentals and we were greeted by Jeremy who was a little rude, saying that our reservations aren't coming up but go ahead and sign in and he would get our bikes for us. No big deal. We each got our own bike that came with a basket (wish I would've know I packed light just in case I had to carry my bag while biking!) our tour guide Meredith was amazing! Sweet, patient and so knowledgable. It's sad that I grew up here and didn't know half of what our city has to offer. Our first stop was only a block away at south street seaport where she informed us of the start of New York and some history behind the Brooklyn bridge. We then rode through lower manhattan Making stops in battery park for views of the Statue of Liberty, we continued through and saw the freedom tower, made our way to battery park city with amazing views of the jersey skyline. We continued through the city streets (Meredith waited at each corner to make sure our group of 22 all made it through traffic!) and made our way to the entrance of the bridge. It was an uphill ride after almost an hour of biking I had to lower the resistance on the bike to make it easier on myself but the views were breathtaking so it was all worth it. We rode to the second tower on the bridge stopped for pictures and to relax for a few minutes and got back on as our group made our way back to the city. It was a great day, perfect for a day off! Got a good workout, got to see beautiful sights that I definitely took for granted and got awesome pics! I would highly recommend. Thank you Meredith for an amazing tour. Giving 4 Stars instead of 5 only because Jeremy could've had better customer service and acted like he was happy to see us instead of making us feel as if we were bothering him by showing up. read more

Got bikes during the Summer Streets festival. The bikes were supposed to be free for one hour. When we returned them they were all smiles and thank yous. When I looked at my credit card bill I discovered they charged me 60$. I called them up and they were like "yeah, that's ok. We don't need to tell you we charged you. You probably returned the bikes late. Go prove you didn't." Essentially, they swindled us out of 60$!!!! For me, customer service is everything. Do not use this tour service. We signed up for the Brooklyn Bridge tour and it was a awful experience. Our tour guide showed up late and was very unprofessional, his name is Mark. He gave his personal and political opinions about everything. He was telling us about the 40 second checkup people got when they went through Ellis Island and proceeded to grab his crouch as part of his demonstration. We were suppose to go into Brooklyn and tour parts of the historical neighbors. We never made it completely over the bridge. The tour was so big they needed another guide to keep the group together, instead my husband was appointed the sweeper. I sent an email complaining about the tour and was given option of booking another tour. WHY WOULD I DO THAT!!!! When I emailed back asking for a refund I never heard back. If 0 stars was an option, that would be my choice. My friend and I wanted to bike across the Brooklyn Bridge, so we came here to rent bikes. The worker told us we could do it in one hour, which is what we did which cost $40 for two bikes. The rental spot is far away from the bridge entrance, plus reaching the bridge is not intuitive at all (there were no signs or any way of knowing where to go unless you are familiar with the area already). If you were familiar with the area you probably wouldn't be renting bikes from this place, anyway. By the time we reached the bridge it had been 30 minutes which meant we had to turn right back around to return the bikes because otherwise we would be charged a hefty late fee. Informed the worker what happened, he offered us 50% off coupon for "next time," but this experience which felt more like a scam/tourist trap left zero desire for a "next time." read more
