I like this artistic bike. 11/05/22

Citi Bike is rather pricey unless you sign up for the annual plan to commute to and from work. It's $3.99 for a 30 minute ride. If you are a tourist and want to ride for the day you can pay $15. When they first started the program I had a problem with the bike racks everywhere and I did trip over a couple. They are incorporated into my way of life now. Would I use one? I'm really not sure considering my age and the disrespect auto drivers have for bicycles and motorcycles across the nation! I am in favor of lowering air pollution from vehicles. The more I can encourage bicycle riding the safer the air will be. If you are interested in avoiding the subway or bus I recommend Citi Bike.

However, I was a bit distracted by how often he consulted his phone for accuracy, and he did take a short call during the tour. I appreciated his creative use of music to help us imagine the park's history -- it was a unique touch -- though I personally didn't want to stand still quite so long for that portion. He had also planned to show us historic photos, but unfortunately, the tablet provided by the company had a dead battery, which reflected more on the company's preparation than on Aaron himself. On the positive side, we were lucky to get a VIP-style experience since we were the only two participants on the tour. Aaron was thoughtful and kind -- he even brought and offered us a poncho since it was raining. He also went out of his way to guide us on how to use the subway afterward so we could reach our next appointment on time, and he eagerly pointed out great photo spots and offered to take pictures for everyone. Overall, I'm glad I took this tour. Aaron clearly cared about our experience and made it memorable despite a few minor hiccups. FYI: this tour does not include Strawberry Fields or the Alice in Wonderland statue.

This is an awesome bike tour and a great but different way to experience NYC. We took the Dutch Roots tour. Lots of facts and stories; learned a lot and appreciate this great city even more. The trip was overall easy and leisurely with a few hills which I walked my bike up those, there was no pressure. There are many stops where Marc our guide would tell us many different stories and historical tidbits. We saw north of Harlem and the Bronx, picturesque woods, ate at a Dominican Republic restaurant for lunch, saw Little Italy in the Bronx, so much fun! Our tour guide Marc was awesome, funny, and caring. There was another tour guide (I think Chris) who always rode in the back to make sure none of us got lost or left behind. We saw things on this tour that we would never have seen any other way. They fitted us for bikes and helmets and provided waters, bikes were fine. We felt safe at all times. When we return to NYC, we will definitely do this again. Don't miss out!

The forecast was for rain from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm so when I arrived, I asked the guy at the front desk if we could change our ride for one of the tours later in the day. They run tours at 11:00 am, 1:00 pm and 4:00 pm. He responded and said that it was going to rain all day. I told him that was not the forecast and that it was supposed to be clear in the afternoon. He said that weathermen could not be trusted and he did not change our schedule. Shortly after the ride started, it rained heavily and the temperature was 39 degrees Fahrenheit. We were dressed for rain but didn't have gloves and between the cold and the wet, it was very rough. Within 20 minutes, one of my 14 year old sons was freezing and crying like I had never seen him cry. We had to leave the tour. When I got back to the bike shop, I asked if I was going to be given a refund. The same guy said immediately "No, you didn't ask to change the schedule." I was astonished. The first thing he said was that I didn't ask to change the schedule when he knew that was the first thing I asked. He had no problem looking me straight in the eye and lying. We don't get to New York often as we live in California. This guy really ruined our day and who knows when we will get back there. They texted me back asking me for my Groupon voucher number, confirmed the date/time, and who would be leading the ride. I met up with Tony and the group - coincidentally a family from my home state/neighborhood - outside of the meetup point. The bikes were pretty basic - with 5-6 gears - and also had water bottle holders. The ride: We rode about 6 miles of the park and stopped along various points to walk around and take pictures. Tony provided some interesting narration about landmarks in the park. The only downside was that, unless you were close to him, you really missed out on hearing what he had to say. However once at the check-in counter the price became $29. The counter girl then pressured my wife and I into buying the day rate since it was only $5 more. She then told us we needed insurance which was an extra $2 per bike. So after being lured in by what I was told would cost roughly $40, after taxes turned into $81. My fault for not walking away at this point, but we'd already gotten excited by the idea. Outside we were then strongly scolded by the bike handlers for not already knowing there was a separate line for male and female bikes. The biking itself was enjoyable but we ended up only keeping the bikes for 2 hours due to the immense traffic of horse carriages, other bicyclists, bike caddies, park carts, pedestrians, etc. It just became too much and felt too dangerous. Arriving back at the store we were once again yelled at by the bike handlers. I'm not even sure the reason this time. NEVER going back here. I *strongly* recommend saving yourself the money and grief and just rent a citibike.

The bike was poorly maintained and generally unpleasant to ride. But things got much worse then the cheap plastic pedal fell off half way through my ride. I couldn't screw it back on as the screw threads were completely stripped. I was able to get to a nearby bike shop, and they confirmed the bike couldn't be easily repaired and would need an entirely new crank arm. I called Unlimited Bikes, and they offered to bring me a new bike. According to the agent, they had a truck in the area, and it would take them about 30 minutes to get to me to deliver another bike. After 40 minutes I called back to get an update. The truck was about 45 minutes away. What blackhole time warp caused the truck to get 15 minutes farther over 40 minutes is a mystery. I waited another 30 minutes and called to check on the status. The truck was still 45 minutes away. At this point, I got frustrated. They said they could expedite a bike over, but there was traffic and it would take 30 minutes. I waited another 15 minutes and called to check in again. There was no truck available and no spare bikes. WTF. They suggested I get an UberXL and take an hour ride back into Manhattan. They refused to cover that cost. Needless to say, very unhappy that they wasted my entire afternoon and left me stranded. And get this - they refused to refund the cost of the bike rental!!! After fighting aggressively over the course of a week (and contesting the charge on my credit card), I finally got a refund. But wow. I highly recommend avoiding Unlimited Biking at all costs. Emailed their customer service address... nothing. I use this bike service when I have to, but I wish there was ANY other option. I get overcharged for bikes I was unable to use, not a single bike I've taken has been fully functional, I've been left with some kind of oil/ink on my hands from the handlebars, the "dockless" feature leaves the streets a mess and docking stations unnecessary, and the issue that drove me to write this review was that all 10 bikes I tried to rent were all "in need of service." I was left to walk almost 3 miles home, in a city, at night, and alone because they can't manage their system. That could have turned into a bad situation. I finally called their customer service to complain about everything I've had issues with and the woman was less than enthused to speak with me and basically agreed with me that the service is unreliable and unacceptable.
