This review is about CitiBike AS A WHOLE, not a specific station. Been member since 2022. Constant frustrations. CONSTANT. App will show open docks "parking" , at a specific station, however, the "open docks" will be frequently be broken = non-operable. Entire stations are CONSISTENTLY offline. That means, entire stations = non-operable. Stations that ARE online consistently full of bikes that either have completely blank screens OR the red light will be on = non operable bikes. The stupid effin TRIANGLES on front of bike- required to dock bike are CONSTANTLY BROKEN making it so you can't even DOCK UR BIKE! So you end up paying for all this extra time. OMG I can't! AMONG MANY OTHER ANNOYING ISSUES. Wish there were a competitor that promised the same exact service as CitiBike and spread themselves all over like CitiBike - BUT actually delivered that service - UNLIKE CitiBike. Cuz I WOULD IMMEDIATELY SWITCH. Alas, there is not. And CitiBike knows this. Hence the exploitation. I HATE THEM. read more

Booked two eBikes from a street kiosk during a recent visit to NYC. It advertised a $25 "day pass" so my partner and I bought two. When we finished our 3.5 hour bike ride, it charged us each $88.00! Turns out the "pass" was for a standard bike, not an ebike. There was no flag upon scanning an bike that it was extra. Just an email we saw later that stated "ebikes .41 cents a minute addtl". Feel like it was bait 'n switch. Plus bikes wouldn't go more than 15 mi per hour so we were constantly peddling against "the brake". Not veey happy. We made the best of it. read more

Citi Bike is super easy to use if you're using the app. From the app you can see nearby docking stations to pick up or return a bike. Since Citi Bike is run by Lyft if you already have an account with the Lyft app you can sync your account so you don't have to bother creating anything new with the Citi Bike app. If you happen to have a Lyft Pink membership you get the first 45 minutes of your ride on a traditional bike for free every time. While I was in New York & Jersey I probably grabbed a bike about 7 times each time I was within that 45 minute window so I paid nothing. The app tells you the rate per minutes for a traditional bike and ebike, I think it's around .22 cents per minutes. When you return your rental the app will let you know the bike is actually locked and that your session has ended so you don't have to worry about any crazy charges showing up later on your account. The bikes are useful, with lots of locations so it's really easy to get around town. The only reason I'm not giving a higher review is because the e-bikes aren't the best of absorbing bumps in the road. read more

Expensive. Poorly maintained. Execrable "customer service." Would be a great asset due to the ubiquitous docking stations, HOWEVER: at least 20% of the docks at most stations are non-functioning. Good luck if you want a "classic bike" (i.e., not battery-assisted) because they are poorly maintained to drive riders to the more expensive e-bikes. Greedy. And lord help you if something goes wrong that necessitates a call to "customer service," such as a docked bike not registering as returned or improper charges. I pity the folks who have to respond. Their English is often difficult to understand and they are not empowered to do anything useful to help you. New Yorkers deserve better than a poor bikesharing service that has increased its pricing five times since 2020, and costs nearly 25% more than most cities. Family of 4, we wanted to buy the day pass to ride around Central Park. It seemed like a great idea. $25/bike all day. Wrong!!! First, I rented the bikes using the kiosk instead of the Citi Bike or Lyft app. After we docked the bikes the first time before the 30 minute time limit hit, I couldn't rent a new bike with the same code & had no idea how to get a new code. I had to contact customer support & was told the code only works once from the kiosk. I had no idea how to get a new code so I was told to just use the Lyft app & it would link my already paid for rentals as long as my Lyft account used the same phone #. Well it didn't and also, I was only able to rent 1 bike at a time with my Lyft account so I had to sign both kids up for Lyft accounts on their phones. Second, 30 minutes to dock before you're charged per minute is not long enough and the bike stations are all outside of the park. It was more of a pain to get to a station than I had thought. Best bet is to rent all day bikes so you can stop & explore the park. read more

CitiBike has upgraded my life, but it just eliminated its Zen Desk, making it even harder than before to get reimbursed for unfair charges. Last month, I was unable to redock a bike due to heavy snow. I immediately reported the issue. One Zen Desker after the other failed to resolve the issue, and now that even that sometimes faulty Zen Desk has been eliminated, all recourse I have is the app, which is useless. I was qualified for reduced fare, but they refused it multiple times. I literally had a case worker print out and highlight the portion that showed why I should be approved. Then the link they give doesn't direct to the reduced fare and if it isn't done exactly as it should be; you will get charged full amount, no refund. If you have multiple rides in a day, you might not even know until the end of the day when they run the batched charges against you. The customer service is everywhere on what to do and keep you waiting forever. Be careful of where you stand because they will charge you off the small print, like you forgot to click a button to activate your membership. read more

Citi Bike is rather pricey unless you sign up for the annual plan to commute to and from work. It's $3.99 for a 30 minute ride. If you are a tourist and want to ride for the day you can pay $15. When they first started the program I had a problem with the bike racks everywhere and I did trip over a couple. They are incorporated into my way of life now. Would I use one? I'm really not sure considering my age and the disrespect auto drivers have for bicycles and motorcycles across the nation! I am in favor of lowering air pollution from vehicles. The more I can encourage bicycle riding the safer the air will be. If you are interested in avoiding the subway or bus I recommend Citi Bike. read more

I love Citibike, and I've been using it for two years. The docks are conveniently located nearly every second corner. Since using Citibike, my commute time has been reduced by half. I avoid the subway madness and enjoy seeing everything above ground. It's the fastest way to get around Manhattan. While the system has its imperfections, it's reliable 90% of the time. Although the bikes are heavy, nothing in life is perfect. I've been satisfied with the customer service; they've always been helpful. I wish there were more bike lines, especially Park avenue but I'm sure it's changing in the future read more

Not worth it - overpriced, faulty bikes, worst customer service experience We took our daughter for our first trip to NYC and heard biking around the city was a great way to see it. There were additional charges for e-bikes which wasn't well advertised. After riding around central park, the bike wouldn't dock. We tried over 30 docks at two different stations. We were stranded with this bike. Friendly locals and even an ebike repair employee tried to help. We spent 2 hours on the phone, then another hour the next day, then another 2 hours the next day trying to deal with the situation and charges. It put a real damper on our trip. read more

I love city bike! It gets me around the city so quick in between the train. I make sure I keep my membership up so I can get membership pricing. Having CitiBike is so easy and convenient. I heard they have bike meet ups where people ride paths together. That sounds cool. But definitely recommend people to give it a try. read more

The concept is great. Grab a bike anytime/anywhere pay a little money, then drop it off just about anywhere. The execution left a little something to be desired. Many kiosks were off-line/not-working when i needed a bike in a hurry. I'm sometimes challenged by apps and technology but it was really unclear when you need the app and when you just need to supply a form of payment. Of course, there is always a leaning curve... but throw me a bone. After using my credit card successfully once, the kiosk then told me I needed a second credit card on file. But, again, overall, it's a great thing to have that needs a little work. read more

It's a 15 minute ride and I couldn't find any electric bike that is working in the whole area east village lower Eastside,Chinatown I spent,40 minutes just to look I couldn't find any and I was already late for my appointment. Traversing Manhattan in a Hummer-sized vehicle is scary enough but on a Citi Bike it's downright terrifying. It's bad enough that you have to compete with oblivious ear budded pedestrians and maniacal professional messengers on their rigidly timed hell rides through Gotham... but the Citi Bikes themselves make 1960's era Soviet automotive technology look like it was spawned by Elon Musk. The price is not the issue here, it's the woefully clunky bikes themselves that feel like you're dragging an anvil down 7th Avenue. Not good comrade. BEWARE! The $25 Day Pass is ONLY for 30 MINUTES unlimited rides within 24 hours, NOT for consecutive time within the 24 hours. You will get charge both $25 day pass plus $.38 cents per minute that you ride. Learned our lesson the expensive way! Over $250 plus dollars for 4 bikes, little over 2 hours ride while on vacation with family at NYC. The CitiBike App was confusing. The name "Day Pass for $25" is misleading. Tried to use the Kiosk the one near Pier 45 (next Hudson Pkwy), it was broken. After the ride, we found out we got charged the day pass ($25) plus the duration of our ride time x $.38 cents. which was about $67 per person x 4 of us. Called CitiBike Customer Service 1 day later to explain. After 30 minutes on the call with the customer rep and his supervisor to explain, how confuse is the app, the misleading "Day Pass" name, that we got charged both Day Pass and the minute rate, they still WILL NOT waive or refund the Day Pass. I feels like this is a trap if you don't read it carefully. The company doesn't seem care about customer or listen to their feedback. Will not use them again! Citibike has set up issue reporting so you can onlu select from a small set of predefined options. These options are completely irrelevant 98% of the time. There is no space to fill in your real problem. If you are trying to inform CitiBike of something important, or if you are just trying to get a refund for false charges, you will have to do a live chat - never mind that you were almost definitely cycling to work, or a crowded venue, or your problem made you late. Just today, I became aware of a serious problem CitiBike would benefit from knowing about. But they have put up walls to prevent me from communicating with them, so I'm sure as hell not going to waste my day trying to find a way to let them know. read more

Booo still booo hiss. I truly love NYC it's loud in a lot of places, obnoxious, too many tourist but I love it. HOWEVER the Citibank bike rentals are horrible. DC has me spoiled we have bike kiosk sometimes almost on every block, but in NY they have long rows of their never maintained, falling apart, kiosk not working bikes far and few in between. I called customer service and surprisingly Freda was super helpful when my code wouldn't work. Take a picture of that code unless you have a good memory because the kiosk was out of paper and I couldn't printing. Also the code expires in 10 minutes do you don't have time to find another station. Anyway Ms. Freda tells me she is showing that NONE of the bikes/racks/computers are working...... She said I wasn't charged..... I'll check to make sure.....eventually I found another station and rented one of those raggedy bikes. Be careful of that all day for $15.00 scam...... you have to return the bike you rented in 30 minute increments. You have to physically lock the bike in a kiosk, use the card you paid with to get a new code and a new bike. Stupid!!!!!! I almost bought my own kick around bike with me but I didn't. I will know next time. But unfortunately for short distances or cruising the park or waterfront is the only option. Again DC has me spoiled. There are scooters, other bike companies all over. City Bike is way too expensive - even with a day pass if you bike more than one hour without any stops it cost you so much. The system is really unclear - and you just pay lyft to make more profit. This 45 minutes free system with the day pass is just wasting the pleasure of riding - you feel the clock and wonder how ridiculously you will be charged to ride 1 hour. I used to like CitiBike and I still admit they offer a useful service (with some cavets, like full docking stations or broken bikes,) but I will never use them again. That's because I used one of their bikes for 10 minutes, docked it, and then the next morning got a bill for $162. They said the bike was still being used. I went back to the dock, found the bike and re-docked it. I don't know if it was my fault or the dock's, but I stated my case to Citibike and they would not refund me the money... although they lost no revenue. The customer service agent was also quite condescending. They could have given me a break and had a good customer for life... now they and their parent company Lyft will never see a cent from me again. read more

Was lured in by the $25/day offer only to find out after the fact that I was also charged $0.38/minute because we used e-bikes and not manual bikes. I called to complain as was told that the flat rate only applied to manual bikes and that the information is somewhere in the approximately 45 page agreement that the kiosk asks you to read and agree to. Ever tried that on a hot day with 90+ temperatures, high humidity and in direct sunlight, with others waiting to make their own purchases on the same kiosk? To add insult to injury, one of the rides involved a bike with a completely flat tire that had to be returned almost immediately to the same station it was rented from and when there were no others, we had to return my wife's, as well. Calling Citi Bike resulted in an offer to remove the highest additional charge (about $17), but nothing for any of the other charges. I'm now in the process of disputing these charges with our credit card. It would have been WAY cheaper to take taxi rides, especially because there were two bikes involved. The actual usage experience is a mixed bag. The docking stations are clunky and often will not allow a bike that seems fine and with plenty of charge to be unlocked. The return process is nearly as bad -- sometimes the dock will work and the light will turn green and other times you have to try several until you find one that does. Pressing the "broken bike" button appears to do nothing to stop others from trying to rent the same one. There is no feedback when that button is pressed whatsoever. The bikes themselves are clunky and you feel every bump. Some bikes feel over-boosted, some feel under-boosted. There's no way to adjust that setting that I can tell. The 30 minute per ride limit is also ridiculous, especially if it also applies to manual bikes. This is NYC, after all! There are lights, pedestrians and traffic, not to mention crazy fast e-bikes, scooters and motorcycles weaving around you on both sides without any audible warning. We rode from mid-town to just over the Williamsburg bridge on a Sunday morning and it took more than 30 minutes. The bikes have no mirrors so you can't see what's coming up behind you. My advice is to avoid these bikes at all costs. Take the subway -- it's way safer, much less expensive, air-conditioned and avoids all of the traffic. read more

We attempted to use a $20/per person coupon for 2 of us (so $40 total) which we attempted to use while riding in Manhattan. The app did not allow us to enter our promo code but instead, directly billed our credit card. We called customer service, who was dismissive and repeated the same mantra over and over. When I politely asked to escalate this to a manager, I was told she could give me $5 credit but refused to transfer my call to a manager. Their billing practices are predatory. She hung up on me and I never even got the $5 credit. Zero stars. STAY AWAY FROM CITIBIKE! Feeling foolish. We were billed about $70 for 2 hours of riding on a traditional bike (not electric) which feels like highway robbery. Please use another bike rental company. Better yet, perhaps use a bike tour company. We rode through Central Park and it would only have cost about $10 more to have a personally guided bike tour. read more

If I were able to put 0 stars for Citi Bike on yelp, I would have. Customer service representatives were trained to be very little help to any problems I've had in the past. The most recent issue I've had was that I purchased a day membership along with my friends and we were not rewarded what we paid for. Citi Bike even went on to assure us that we wouldn't be charged when they didn't accept our cards (which by the way, had more than enough funds), however we were. They made unauthorized transactions on my card. As for my friend, they took 100 bucks out of her account the next day. Please do not waste your time with citi bike. Invest in a cheap amazon e-bike, trust me you are better off. I visited NEW YORK CITY in October 2018 and rode a Citi bike during my second night here which was my BIRTHDAY (on 20 October 2018). I believe I was in the midtown neighbourhood but I can't remember as I'm writing this review in 2022. RENTING -- The bike rental process couldn't be easier. If you download the app on your phone, then you can easily navigate the renting process. Otherwise, once you locate a Citi Bike rental location in the city, follow the instructions on the bike station, pay, then that's it. You will then return the bike to any bike station so you don't have to return it to the same place where you rented the bike. PRICING -- Please check the website or app because prices change all the time. A monthly membership fee is just under $16. If this is your first Citi bike rental then your first 30 minutes is free, at least that was the case when I visited NYC in October 2018. Please check the website for any current specials or discounts. Biking is such a fun and easy way to get around the city especially when the weather is nice. Per the Citi Bike NYC website, renting a bike helps the environment - "Biking saves gasoline, prevents carbon emissions, and keeps pollutants out of the air. I'm giving this a three simply because the seats are super uncomfortable and I think I bruised my butt. I'll check when I get home but dang CITIBIKE! Also what contributes to the bro so great rating is the fact that the seat adjuster is terrible. I had to adjust my bike seat every other stop light because it kept sliding down to one. The seat also wiggled from time to time throwing me off even more than I already was (-because it's been a long time since I rode a bike, HAJIMAN- it shouldn't have done that.) On the other hand, it was a thrilling and new experience that I'm glad I was able to try for the low cost of $15/day. It's beautiful. I would do it again when I invest in a bike seat pad or something or when CITIBIKE invests into more comfortable seats. I was able to step out of anxiety and befriend other bikers and ask for advice or just follow behind them when the bike lane seemed non-existent and I got scared. WARNING!!!! Citibike may charge you over$150 for one ride!!!!! Tl;Dr, citibike is garbage and just be running it if money, so they will find any way possible to overcharge you. Took a 15 minute ride on one of their beat up bikes, docked it in one if the stains, and got a bill the next day for $161. !!! Contacted their help team who basically staff the station was working when I docked it, so charged me for a 25 hour ride. They didn't even attempt to look at the bike's gps to see what happened. My guess is it is broken, like the sticky, gummy handlebars, the flat tires and dead batteries on the e bikes. Used to be a good company but now it's a scam. Do yourself a favor and take a cab. 3 times they have tried to charge me for not returning a bike correctly and all 3 times I had. When disputing this with their CS department, I received red tape procedures, got hung up on by the call center, transfers to supervisors who never answered, unkept promises to return my phone calls, and inane excuses as to why they wouldn't return my money or even credit my account - which costs them nothing. Each time I found out that the bikes had been in use and re-rented. Considering all the frustrations, time and effort wasted, erroneous charges, usage and monthly fees, the drawbacks far outweighed benefits. If the service worked correctly, I would be singing their praises, instead I feel the need to inform others of this cautionary experience. During a short visit to NYC I rented a Lyft Citibike in Roosevelt island in New York-and what should have been a 39 minute $6.36 charge turned into a $252. charge because the docking station lock was damaged. Actually I've been charged $152., $252. and $272. all three for the same transaction. I was also accused of stealing the bike - the customer support is terrible and 6 months later I'm still trying to fix this ongoing problem.
