Brooklyn Fare is primarily fine gourmet foods, with a wide selection, specialty items, organic items, and regular grocery store staples. They offer a good variety of fresh produce, baked goods, meats, and cheeses. The deli counter and prepared food sections are also noteworthy. Most people like myself shop here for convenience, cleanliness, as well as Mohammad the store manager is the best, and Ivy the manager is the greatest. You can not ask for better humans. Prepared Foods, is where I get my rotisserie chicken, the bakery has fresh French, and Italian bread. The prices has increased. The deli counter offers appealing prepared food options, and my neighbors rave about the sushi being fresh and delicious. The pricing is higher than average. They have a very rude guy in the deli, that's particularly rude to only women. They have added new staff to the deli. Ask for Sal in deli, or prepared food, he's really great. Lucky to have a grocery store in the neighborhood so I don't complain. Also love the quality of their veggies! Tip: Look for sales, they have great sales. Today on Chicken Wars, we have Brooklyn Fare Market. It was $11.99 for a whole non-organic tissi, which surprised me as this was a nice grocery store. I thought it was about to run my pockets. I grabbed this bird and took it to this little park near my office in Soho, and just basked in the sun as I ripped into it on my lunch break. It must have been a crazy visual for all other patrons in the park, as I'm just posted there ripping into a rotisserie chicken with my bare hands at 12:37pm on a Wednesday. All in all, this was a quality bird. It lacked the flavor/seasoning to be truly elite, but I slapped an 8.1/10 on it. It currently ranks #10 out of 29 grocery store rotisserie chickens I have tried in the past 2 months. Labyrinthian layout filled with large dogs who sniff and chomp at the produce. It's sad because the $11.99 rotisserie chicken is pretty good and this is close to home. It's egregious conduct for staff to be interacting with the dogs instead of kicking the owners out of the store. read more

As another poster previously reported, this is known as "The Dog Store." I have complained endlessly to management and even my city council member. Last time I called the main office they said they knew of the issue but felt powerless to stop the dogs from coming into the store. I would suggest stopping the cashiers from giving treats to the dogs would be a good start. All I really want is a giant A-frame NO DOGS sign in front of the store. I have to give this supermarket 5 stars. I trekked everywhere in NYC to find this keto ice cream sandwich that I saw on Instagram and they had it here. The keto Instagrammer said it was truly delicious and he was not kidding. It was the Rebel ice cream sandwich. Oh my gosh is it good. This supermarket is huge. Like really big. I would be surprised if you couldn't find what you were looking for here. I was actually happily surprise to see a lot of healthy options and keto items that I hadn't seen elsewhere. The last time I visited this location, it was a another supermarket on its way out the door. The shelves were mostly empty, entire chunks of equipment were ripped out and overall it looked very sad. As such I was happy to see that a new business had taken over this space in the last year, namely Brooklyn Fare. While this store has two other branches, I confess I was not familiar with the chain. However as I walked around the store with its brick walls and dark color tones I found myself comparing it mostly to Brooklyn's Union Market (which I know rather well thanks to regular Park Slope and Brooklyn Heights visits). Highlights for me included a very nice bakery section (I purchased a fig loaf that was amazing), an area with fresh pasta to take home and cook, a beautiful produce section and a really nice selection of health foods (including a wide variety of vegetarian burgers). Their beer selection was also very nice with brands ranging from smaller breweries to bigger ones. The staff was very friendly and checkout was quick. Prices were average for the area (meaning if you're looking at suburb prices it's not exactly a fair comparison). This store is worth peeking your head in an taking a look around even if you are not looking for anything specific. read more

Cashiers are rude and aggressively incompetent, even by the rock-bottom standards of New York. Had nothing but good things to say about them until recently. Their prices were generally good and everyone is helpful. Certainly appreciated all their efforts throughout the worst (for now) of the pandemic. But I stopped in recently after my morning run to pick up romaine lettuce. It had gone up $4 in 1 week. One week. I know there are supply chain problems but this is too extreme. I did check prices in other grocery stores in the neighborhood and no one has raised their prices as much as Brooklyn Fare has. And they've stopped their members reward type thing. And trying not to give up on them I stopped at the deli last night. There were 4 people "working" behind the counter. I was the only customer. All 4 saw me at different points but continued talking to each other rather than take my order. For 7 minutes. Again, I was the only person there. This place is not perfect but I am glad it is here so people in the neighborhood can buy their groceries (not everyone eats out every meal of the day) Some reviews complained about prepackaged food not being fresh, I do have experience buying pre-cut mixed veggies and found they were bad when I got home. As far as city grocery store options go, I am happy with this one and very glad it is in the neighborhood! Location is good, and the flow of the store works well. I am going to comment on a few things I think could use improvement as a way for the store owners to get some feedback. Often times I find that items on sale do not ring up with correct pricing at the register. I recommend shoppers keep an eye out for that. A change I would love to see happen is alter the direction of the check out line from where it is to down the chocolates aisle. It is hard to continue shopping when the line backs up in the dairy section. Lastly, it is difficult to buy any personal care products at this location because they are exclusively behind the registers. I often forget that I needed something since they are out of sight and can be awkward to ask for. read more

When items are on sale, I noticed that they can be cheaper than my parents Walmart in Florida. That doesn't happen for any other Manhattan grocery store that I know of. They do lack some selection. It's a complete deli and grocery with fare price, nothing special there is no special things that makes this market unique, it's typical little manhattan super market. There is huge deli options, salads, pasta, sausage,ham, and sautéed vegetable available to the customer. The deli section is pretty huge that mostly italian meat and salads loaded the deli. The market also has variety of nutrients that you can choose how mush you want to get . Means they sell it by pound and beat thing is you put them in your bag. They are not pre packed. Some organic option also are on the shelves but I did not see any gluten-free items It may be that I did not see because I did not ask them if they have any. But next time I am in any of the brunch I will ask and update my feed back. read more

My standards are not that high for food I cook at home but for these prices it makes no sense the brands they offer. Check out prices for yogurt or eggs - compare the prices and the product they carry with other stores and its not even close. crusty and not in that organic way, slim pickings for nonorganic Fruit, Produce, Milk, Product Offerings, chewed up looking serve-yourself bins and you can witness people doing just that with their fingers as well. Narrow isles, uncomfortable, lines all the time. I cannot think of one redeeming quality - except location. The quality is low, very little organic and low quality. The staff especially the cashiers are typical Duane Reade and deserve to be mentioned: "NAYYYYY kksss ttt" - listen for them screaming it in annoyance not even responding to my saying hello, but then again I'm not a man...at the check out. No manners. Here is just one example of incompetence, asked the cheese guys if they made brooklyn fare brand goat cheese and the men laughed and said, "yeah we gotta goat back here then we stamp him" and then abruptly said, Um no. well, they do make it as usual these types have a whole lot of lip flapping with no substance behind it - basically what stores in NYC employ now as far what the parents tell me.... If I have to shop in this area, I will never ever ever go back here again and its mostly due to the checkout women who may be nice to you but are rude to me - consistently. I love this supermarket. I stared coming here a little over a year ago. Everyone is super friendly and helpful! I use to like getting my cold cuts here but not so much anymore. Before, the guys behind the counter were informative and helpful about my meats and cheeses!! I can tell they had a true passion and knew how to pair what with what! There was one particular employee here named Ignacio! he's no longer there! I recently got my cold cuts and it's just not the same love! I been shopping here and the workers are all helpful and polite, the deli guys name Jerome extremely helpful, also Maria the catering manager, the male manager is always polite ,they help me for thanksgiving, there food really good too. The meat and produce department is really fresh, unlike grestedes workers rude so is manager, and they sell expired stuff even in the produce department and meat too where I showed a manager a meat that was expired week ago. Anyway there prices are good too. Update - I had to come back and add two more stars because of the sushi here. The person that comes up with and creates the BF sushi recipes and combinations is brilliant in my book. Tonight there was a combination piled with shredded crab/krab drizzled in a decadent sauce atop a roll that was I think half raw tuna and more shredded crab. A single paper thin jalapeno slice adorned the top of each piece. It was perfection! (and I'm not even a jalapeno fan). This particular sushi package tonight (see pic) was right up there with some the best restaurants I've ever experienced. Over the past months, I've had some of BF's other rice-free sushi rolls that were equally as rich and delish. Standing ovation for the person or persons behind the sushi. I mean really! Bravo and thank you! And yes, the sushi can be as overpriced as the rest of this store, but it's something special (and dare I say actually worth it for the occasional indulgence) There are still a lot of things I do not like about this store (so please count most of my stars as being for the sushi creators). The store still just doesn't rate tops for me partly because of the atmosphere created by some of the seemingly entitled and just plain rude attitudes of some of the shoppers (who the store seems to cater to) as well as a handful of the employees, the high prices, the 'we tore apart an old place and put all new stuff in there to make it look like a quaint old place' falseness that now runs rampant in our once authentically quaint west village. my initial review-------- Ridiculously overpriced. We (the people that have called this village home for decades) thought Dags was already overpriced (but you could get a decent sale at Dags once in a while and the people were mostly nice and down to earth). Then we then were promised a reasonably priced well stocked neighborhood grocery store in Brooklyn Fare. Nope nope nope. This place is about as "neighborhood" as Chumleys will be after it's new re-vamp and updated menu. Not for the real neighborhood crowd, more for the transients and tourists. ALLERGY SUFFERERS BEWARE! I noticed --in the deli section--that they had a roasted cauliflower dish that included treet nuts (slivered almonds) but did not list them in the ingredients. I warned the deli clerk, a woman, about this dangerous oversight. She more or less shrugged it off, but then pointed to a tiny 5 x 7 sign that said that some dishes included ingredients that some are allergic to. SO THEY DON'T CARE! And you have to BEWARE! Don't trust Brooklyn Fare with your health! ...Addtionally, they screw with you on prices: Check out the Carnation evaporated milk sale, It CLEARLY says "5 for $5" with a size listed below. When they fought me in order to charge me $1.50 and accompanied me to the cans. The guy tore the sign off the bottom shelf--and there, sure enough, it said "must buy five" * writtten in typeface 80% smaller than the sale price. It was there all right--an inch from the floor. *(Isn't there some NYC marketing statute declaring that if you advertise anything, saying for example, Two for Two Dollars, that you have to offer one for one dollar?) read more

This is one of the most friendliest stores. I love all the staff members. The quality of their food is superb. My only complaint is their prices. When they first opened up they had wonderful sales which offset some of their higher-priced items. Unfortunately those sales seem to have dwindled. In addition, the deli department is extremely expensive. Their Lasagna Bolognese, although delicious, is overpriced at 14.99 per pound. One square of lasagna (about 4 inches) ended costing more than $17. We ended up paying almost $35 for two squares of lasagna. What's up with that? read more

There's a lot of people complaining about the price, but it's in line with all the other grocery stores in Manhattan and sometimes even better (e.g. I've gotten cheaper grapes here than street vendors). Come here for moldy white bread. WAY undercooked rotisserie chicken (I'd say Salmonella Chicken). Most of the stuff has been around since Nixon (cancerous mallowmars, rusting tin cans of tomatoes, rubbery chemical Chinese noodles-- not sure this crap qualifies as food). Do the people running this place even know their clientele-- I wonder who buys Spam in the West Village, the home of the $300 juice cleanse.
