Happier Grocer left me a bit confused after my visit. I ordered the matcha latte with Okinawan black sugar, and while it sounded great on paper, I genuinely could not taste the matcha at all. Even visually, it did not really look like matcha, which made me double check with the staff to see if I had been given a hojicha latte by mistake. It was a bit of a letdown, but I am open to giving it another shot and trying something else on the menu next time. read more

I had the opportunity to visit Happier Grocery during my recent New York visit. It was packed when we stopped in, but it's not a very big place, although, it does have 2 floors. I more went in just browsing but quickly found a few things I liked (and purchased). Lots of healthy/healthier options here from produce, snacks, beverages, flowers, etc. I found myself enjoying the personal items section the longest smelling all the perfume oils. I'm one of the crazy people who shops at Happier Grocery for everyday snacks and groceries. Sue me. Store design is a little chaotic with register and café line blocking entrance to the grocery and prepared foods sections, but such is New York. Small selection of super-curated goods. Things are decently well-organized -- I typically know where to find everything, though I've had trouble finding specific snacks before. I've had quite a bit of the food and drink at this point -- I would say that the food is definitely better than the drinks in my experience. Best thing I had here was easily the Ballerina Farms protein soft serve. Seasonal pizza slices have been pretty good too. I think next time, I'll grab a drink from the fridges vs. order from the café. This place gets somewhat crowded FYI, and the crowd is sometimes hard to deal with. But so worth it to get to the goods here. read more

Here's a thought, if the staff are rude and obnoxious right in front of you, it's not a stretch that they are probably doing much worse when you are not looking. Delivery personnel from this establishment are the worst. I wouldn't want these guys delivering anything that I eat. What could they improve? Treat everyone with a little more respect. read more

I'm intrigued by this place because I am basic. I only come here to get the Kuro latte but am intrigued by everything here. They do take forever for their drinks though, so only come if you have time to spare. I will try their milks and broths at some point + when I have more spending money I'll go downstairs to maybe buy something. I also saw an advent calendar that I'm also intrigued by but wish there was an influencer posting about their unboxing so that I can see if it's worth it. Anyway, good drink selection with a ton of random herbs that you can add. Good smoothies but staff is inefficient and do not seem to care about customer service or are completely understaffed. Opened almost 10 mins late with multiple people waiting outside and did not open the doors until a few of us waved them down. Guy who opened the door then proceeded to avoid the crowd that was trying to get smoothies and it took more of us tracking and flagging someone down for a manager to come (smoothie in hand) and tell us that the smoothie bar would not be open until 8. Happier Grocery. The name itself promises joy, and it certainly delivers--well, unless you're looking for joy in your wallet. Maybe if you're a $200,000-a-year influencer who just moved to Tribeca (courtesy of your parents' fund), it won't be such a hit. My friend suggested we check it out, and despite the prices, I really loved it. It's like the Erewhon of New York. You know, the California health market that overwhelms you with $10 organic cauliflower and canned juices you've never heard of (sea moss, anyone?). I've bought sea moss eight times and my skin still isn't glowing--though, to be fair, it looks pretty great for other reasons. At Happy Grocery, I grabbed a green matcha latte with lavender. For around $4-5, it felt like a steal compared to that $10 cauliflower. Everything is laid out beautifully--fresh, organic, and exactly what you'd expect from a bougie Whole Foods on steroids. They have pizza to go, fancy smoothies (Haley Bieber style, but about $3 cheaper), and all kinds of trendy health food. They also have a rewards system, which I signed up for: $9.99 for 10% off their house brand items. Not bad! I'll definitely be back for more coffees, and maybe to try out that Haley Bieber smoothie--or who knows, maybe they'll have a Taylor swift or Justin Timberlake version by then. read more

If coming here 5/6 days I was in new york isnt a indicator of my love for this spot - let me tell you. Seed oil free- stunning interiors - impeccable curation of chocolates to organic fruit - the house-made milks at the tonic bar are my favorite unique addition to this place! Don't skimp on the chocolates at the cafe i've had like 10. They use high quality matcha (the same community goods uses in LA). The chicken tenders, lamb meatballs, and beef skewers are my fav go to for lunch and or dinners. I adore the selection of drinks as well they just know best. Get the pistachio matcha latte while you shop around. I adore the concept I think the store is done so beautifully and I get excited everytime I get to go here. I've stopped by this place a couple times for one specific reason. It's not because it reminds me of Erewhon (nor have I been to that grocery store) but rather because of their outstanding kombucha selection. The prices are surprisingly reasonable and they have a very good selection better than basically every store I've been to outside of maybe one organic place that closed a good while go. I tried a matcha once which was fine (there's much better nearby such as matchaful and for those who shop here you might as well go a good distance to the expensive but outstanding Sorate) and I have tried getting their draft kombucha (apparently made by United Ferments) which has been out unfortunately. They have a good selection of just about everything else though of course you can go to other stores for some of these things but there are some brands that I don't really see much outside of here. I haven't really bothered with any of their prepared foods because of the prices though I might stop once for their konjac noodles or something as those looked decent. I would also never buy a tonic or anything designed as a detox or with charcoal because honestly your body does all the filtering for you and you don't need to listen to any of that pseudoscientific stuff but I might stop in here for a smoothie or something just to try it once. It's a high end grocery store in an odd area straddling Soho/Tribeca/Chinatown so there's going to be complaints obviously but I don't mind the store at all. read more

As a frequent Erewhon shopper, I had high expectations for Happier Grocery, but I left deeply disappointed by both the selection and the quality of their products. I typically avoid comparing stores directly, but given the online articles touting Happier Grocery as an Erewhon dupe, it seemed fair to hold it to a similar standard. From the store design to the packaging, it's clear they've attempted to replicate Erewhon's aesthetic. However they missed the mark entirely and it's clear they don't understand the DNA that makes Erewhon what it is.. besides the price they definitely cloned that perfectly. If not being compared directly it's a decent grocery store but they upped the bar by hyping it to unrealistic levels. read more

The most interesting place! Shockingly can rival Erewhon. Price wise, some things are more expensive, some are similar to other stores, and some are lower in cost so very interesting on their end. I notice that they source rare and unique items and I recognized a lot of the brands in beauty and house cleaning as well as beverage wise. The beauty selection is unusually well curated and strong for a grocery store. They carry products that I have seen at Saks and Ssense as well as Whole Foods which is a really good mix. Cleaning supply wise, they carry this DTC brand that I haven't seen in stores so good. Food wise, I didn't notice much strength or difference than other places. I will primarily come here for beauty, beverage, and cleaning needs. I will check back later if the other categories evolve. read more

I am obsessed with this place! There is no better spot to shop for kombucha. They have an incredibly wide selection of high-quality brands (wild tonic, pilot, GTs, bear's fruit, seek north, fermensch, YesFolk, wild bay) in bottles/cans as well as draft kombucha from Unified Ferments! Incredible. When I visited, they had the jasmine flavor. About $7 for 16 oz. This is a great spot for people with good taste in food and drinks of all kinds. Their inventory is super thoughtful and high-quality, whether you're looking for chocolate or coffee or vegan milk or produce. And, best of all, everything is super reasonably priced. read more

Social worker here in Soho. I was happily spending 100 dollars plus once a week on my lunch break. A fun place to decompress and enjoy some healthy options. Taking away the points for those who do not PAY for a membership is simply not acceptable for me. There is no incentive to pay quadruple for basics. I'm disappointed because when you take something away from customers it leaves a "bad taste in their mouth." The staff was incredibly rude, "Yeah, we don't give points anymore." I won't be back. You also need to make sure the dates on the "Milks" are current. I spotted a few that were expired and moving them to the cashier line is inconvenient. read more

It took 25 minutes for the smoothie/coffee bar to make three smoothies, mine included, and the result of my $16 smoothie purchase was this 75% full cup of slop. At least at Erewhon they offer you a large amount comparable to what you pay. There was an entire menu TV screen that was broken, and the coffee bar employees worked like someone had cast a slow motion spell over them. I'm here to review one specific area of this store: the pizza area. Yes, the rest of the store is good- I think comparisons to Dimes Deli or Erewhon both miss the mark (more reasonable price point, focus on gourmet specialties like the late Dean and Deluca than on expensive health food)- but the pizza is where it shines. How is it that this hip grocery store somehow turns out better pizza than many other fancy slice spots in the city right now, and for a better price? The pepperoni slice is amazing, so is the squash blossom, and the Caesar salad slice is weird but good. The crust is impressive. They could cut this little section of the hot food area out, and it would crush Scarr's as a standalone pizzeria. I think all the slices are 5 or 6 bucks (and they're large, and keep in mind you're not tipping, because it's a grocery store.) The people who work the hot food section are sweet, the people who do the registers are sweet, only can complain about the coffee people, and the customers. The customers are mostly the worst (except for me, and you, if you go), and the coffee people are sort of polite, but kind of passive aggressive, and really inept, which they'll sort of blame on you. But, because I like the rest of this place, I'm going to choose to believe that the microclimate of aggression and snootiness at the coffee stand is a carefully cultivated and designed part of the overall shopping experience, meant to give us a suitably antagonistic barista interaction, consistent with the rest of the best NYC coffee shops. They also use Integral, which is the best. So I suppose they've earned their prickly demeanor. If they overcharge you, remember it's your fault, and keep it moving. read more

I'm being generous with a 3 rating. The store was very crowded with terrible customer service. Many of the items are so ordinary. Few items that I couldn't buy elsewhere. The prices are so inflated. For example, a jar of Carbone tomato sauce is almost twice as much as at Wegmans. read more

They inflate their prices at the register. This has now happened to me twice and the first time I chalked it up an accident. Today I had to have them remove duplicates of items and still got screwed - when I got into my car I realized the lowers prices they weighed out on my hot bar items didn't match with what I was charged at the register. I placed my order at noon for a 1 PM delivery. Not only did no one respond to my repeated calls and messages, but the order wasn't picked up until 1:37 PM and the order is still not here and it's 2.10PM. When I requested a refund, I was told it's "not our problem" because of a third-party delivery issue. That's completely unacceptable. If you choose to work with a third party, you are still responsible for the customer experience. I paid your company--not the driver. This delay and lack of communication is on you, and I expect a full refund. Make it right! In the end they hung up on me! read more

I was seeking an afternoon matcha and happened upon Happier Grocery's soft opening. Their drink menu had so many interesting healthy looking choices of teas, smoothies and elixirs, it was hard to choose. I tried the daoist matcha and loved it. The staff was warm and welcoming and gave detailed explanation on several of the drinks. Lots of healthier and indulgent packaged snacks and bottled drinks too. Excited they will have prepared foods and bone broth when they officially open. I will definitely stop back in August when they expand their offering. read more

Happier Grocery, with its high quality & interesting prepared foods, produce & other gourmet offerings, should be a welcome addition to the neighborhood. I'd be happy to give them the two missing stars if they'd improve two problematic areas that make shopping there unpleasant: * The checkout registers & credit card readers often don't work. Today the nice checkout person had to rescan my items twice & would have needed to scan them a third time if I hadn't had enough & refused. This has been a serious glitch ever since the store opened. Management should update this equipment for the sake of both staff & customers. * The music is often so loud it's hard for staff & customers to hear each other when they're only two feet apart. Staff members have told me they have to spend their shifts yelling & saying "what?" a lot. I assume whoever sets the volume level is mostly deaf. read more

I placed a grocery delivery order with Happier Grocery only to get a text message that over half of my order was unavailable. I wanted to cancel order because it was not worth sending a delivery person with a few items only. I tried to reach out to them by chat and phone with no response for over an hour. In the meantime the order was dispatched anyway and when I tried to tell the delivery person I didn't want the order and had requested it be cancelled he told me he works for Uber, not Happier Grocery so he had to leave the bag.
