Approximately two years ago I purchased my first kayak. After doing some research on the matter, I selected the Brooklyn 9.0 Single (FK184) Fishing Kayak. Even though it was advertised as a fishing kayak, I was mainly interested in obtaining a quality kayak than could fit vertically in my garage. To my surprise, this 9-foot fishing model has turned out to be excellent for just kayaking. The FK194 is wider than most kayaks I was looking at, and as a result, it is very stable in rough waters. Its wide width so helps getting in and out of the kayak. The removable seat is fully adjustable and very comfortable to sit in. There are several recess holders for fishing poles located on each side of the kayak and one fishing pole holder located in the center of the boat. Each recess holder has a rubber cover to keep water out when not in use. While a nice feature, the rubber covers should be held in place better. I glued each of mine down because they kept flopping out whenever a turned my kayak over. There were two problems I had with my first FK184. The first was a belt on the removable seat that was tearing into the back of the seat. The second just recently happen when one of the heads of the paddle broke off near its base. In both instances BKC quickly replaced each item with no cost to me (Including shipping charges). As a result of how easy it is to use this kayak, its overall stability and BKC replacement policy, I purchased a second FK184 earlier this year so that a friend could join me while I kayaked. I am extremely pleased with both purchases and highly recommend this model for anyone looking for a quality kayak. You can also fish from it. read more

I'm a fat guy and this is not only the first ever Kayak I have ever purchased it is also the first time this fat guy put his fat ass into one! I was nervous to say the least, especially about the seat and how it is strapped in. I was at a Bass Pro Shop recently "after" receiving my Brooklyn Kayak although I had yet to plant my self in it on the water, just once in the front yard while drunk. That evening, I was with the buddy who convinced me to purchase this Brooklyn Kayak because he is an experienced Kayaker and he bought one. Truthfully, after doing the research this is a "Great" value. Now Bass Pro, the Kayaks they have they have a great looking fastener's for the seat. My buddy had drilled holes (small holes) in his as pilot holes and added some eyehooks and I was like "GFYS", I'm not drilling anything into this $800.00 (rounding up) Kayak that you convinced me to purchase! So, obviously I reached out to Brooklyn Kayak and they assured me that once I strapped in and sat in it that my body weight would lock this seat in. Jokes on them, I'm a fat guy so my body weight probably would lock it in alone without the straps! Nonetheless, we went out Sunday evening, strapped the seat in and went for it. Well, I was nervous and this thing was so unstable that had I sneezed to my left my personal buoyancy would have had to save me. Well we quickly realized that I was not centered, I was too far to the right. back to the shore we go, got the seat centered and let me tell ya something, I haven't been that relaxed in a very long time! Have used this kayak a few times now with make shift stadium seats from Dicks Sporting Goods I had to go back and look - did these guys used to work at home depot? Not bad if you want a bath tub, which by the way, for a huck finn adventure isn't a bad idea. Still, we aren't on the mississippi. I was imagining some design related to boats would be included in the manufacture of this tub. Let's set aside that they have multiple hardware components that don't have any explanation for their use or purpose, or matching components that would fit and work with them. huh? yeah, no idea, but when you buy one you'll see its random, like perhaps a cabinet maker was on the design team. But wouldn't a boat have, balance? The first worrying clue, the handle to carry the kayak isn't in the middle of the boat, so when you pick it up by yourself, it tips forward. uh oh. and yes, when two adults ride in it, the weight of the kayak is too far forward. and the nose of the kayak ploughs through the water like a Rhinoceros in Wakanda fighting the W'Kabi. They advertise the boat as being good for three, well, why not have a third seat option? nope, but that's ok, we had to buy all the seats from Dicks Sporting Goods any ways, (noticed some really nice kayaks there too) But the balance problems get worse, not only are the seats in the wrong place for two adults, they're unadjustable. It's hopeless to push the seat in the back, back or space things out for a third, and god forbid, you want, as they advertise is possible, to go solo. anyway, a single star? I purchased a 10.5 Pro Single Pedal a month ago and absolutely love it. A few things of note: * Kayak was delivered in 5 days after ordering, which was very impressive * Visually it looks great (I chose 'Storm Surge' finish) - had multiple compliments on the water from others * Assembly was super easy, and there is plenty of accompanying YouTube videos for instruction and support if needed * Functionally, so far it is flawless. The pedal system is easy to drop in and secure, and pedals easily with good speed. The rudder is responsive and performs well. Steering is very easy. Placement of rails, storage compartments keeps things within reach. Stock seat is comfortable, and the ability to adjust the seat on the gliding rails was a top selling point for me * The ability to add a trolling motor in place of the pedals is a really great feature - I will be making that purchase in the near future * With many vendors and models to choose from, I mostly chose this for the lighter weight (65lbs). I load this on top of my crossover vehicle, so I was looking for the lightest kayak I could find in this class, without compromising on quality. This kayak nailed it * Very minor complaints about the pedal drive well (cover sold separately) and the rudder (upgrade available at additional cost); these should both have been included * Overall, I rate this a 9 out of 10 - really could not be happier with it! read more

Got my kayak 2 days ago got it a few days early. Took the yak out today for the first time for some large mouth fishing. Unfortunately got skunked but spent 6 hours on the water and it was a good time. I've only had a paddle kayak before getting a peddle and it is a game changer especially for fishing. I don't have a truck I have a Mazda 3 hatchback with no roof rack that's why I settled for a modular yak specifically the foldable one. Over all the Mazda hatchback fits the yak perfectly but not in it's folded position I had to take out the other pins to take it apart to get it in the vehicle but it fits so I can't complain. The yak handles very good I took it out on some water that wasn't calm, peddled against the current and It did a good job. The only thing that was worry some for me was the delivery I was at work and wife left home to take care of some things and they were telling me they would wait for 15 mins or reschedule which would have costed me money. They called me and a rep sent over a email saying they can leave it if I agree but my wife showed up in time to sign for delivery. One more mention you can definitely stand on it but it's gonna take some balance unless you want to go over board. Overall the price point for the yak and the quality is worth it. read more

I happened upon the Brooklyn Kayak Company website when searching for a kayak to use for waterfowl photography. After watching several BKC videos and reading a number of their blog articles, I called the company and spoke at length with Isaac D., who answered my questions and was responsive to my followup emails. After comparing several models, I chose the MPT13 modular tandem pedal kayak with flipper drive. The kayak is easy for one person to carry due to the lower weight of the individual sections. The MPT13 can be used as either a single-person kayak or as a tandem kayak, when the central section is added. The flipper drive is easy to operate and provides smooth, efficient propulsion. The MPT13 is easy to transport. I can easily haul all three sections in the bed of my Ford F150, even with the tonneau cover closed. I have only had the opportunity to take the kayak out for a few sessions on the water thus far, but am pleased with its sturdiness and ease of assembly. The kayak is very stable, but I bought BKC's inflatable outriggers for use when doing photography, if necessary. This kayak is the right combination of portability, stability, and versatility for me, and I appreciate BKC's excellent customer service. read more

I did a lot of research before I bought the PK13 sit on Kayak from BKC. It was on back order so took a little while to arrive but was very happy with it when it arrived. It has all the features I need and a little more. The plastic used on the Kayak is heavy duty and should last a long time. I sprayed the Kayak with 303 protectant, all plastic will be degraded by the sun eventually so using a protectant is a wise move for any item that will be exposed to sunlight. I added a 12v lithium battery for the supplied trolling motor, which fits perfectly in the large dry storage area behind the seat, some other accessories and was good to go. I also purchased the outrigger kit which adds even more stability to a very stable platform. I do carry a lot of kit with me for fishing and for safety/convenience so the weight capacity of the PK13 was a great bonus to me with the kayak. My Yakattack gear all fits nicely along with my fish finder, light kit, rod holders etc. I also carry a spare emergency paddle and an anchor. The PK13 took everything I threw on it as is stable on the water! Great Kayak! read more

I Love this modular kayak! Getting used to the pedals and issues with using the ruddar all a learning curve! This is my first pedal kayak so it's going to take some getting used to it. I love the modular concept as I am getting to old to lift my kayak up over my head to get it on and off my roof. I do not fish and kayak for exercise and relaxing I had to YouTube the rudder installation and use as it's a different way to start the kayak . Overall my arms are going to love not being the only way to move on the kayak.After purchasing a kayak cart that fits through the scupper holes, moving this kayak has just become easy. Still trying to figure out the pedals with getting into the kayak at the dock and juggling how to insert the pedals and lock them before I set off. I guess you are never to old to learn new kayaking skills!! And the best part is you can purchase on shop and do a payment plan!A++++ If you are a woman who wants to be independent you must consider getting a modular kayak with a cart...no need to strap on your roof and worry about it flying off your roof racks! read more

I have had the chance to use my Brooklyn 13.0 Pro Tandem twice now and it was great both times! Getting ready for the water was easy, just unwrapped the Kayak and clicked the included paddles together and we were set. It even came with a kids paddle which was perfect for us. First time I went out alone and everything worked perfectly. The Kayak sits high in the water (important for the Florida intercoastal area that I use the kayak which can have some waves/swells), tracks great during paddling, and was easy to maneuver. Second time I took out my daughter and we both had a blast. Even with two people (around 380 lbs of human) the kayak still sat high in the water and was easy to paddle and maneuver. With other tandems kayaks we have used, they would sit very low, take on water, and get sluggish when I would be doubled up and saddle with gear. But, not the Brooklyn! Some other kayakers commented about the unit and were surprised at the price I paid thinking it would be a much more expensive kayak. Great purchase and looking forward to much more use! read more

I ordered the Brooklyn 10.0 Single Pedal Kayak and it is my first pedal drive kayak. This company has sales for almost every major holiday, so you are bound to get a great deal. The kayak is a game changer when fishing because you are able to use both hands while still moving. The kayak that I got is a flipper drive and it cannot go in reverse, but there is a backup paddle (not include) with an elastic strap right on the side of the kayak for convenient access. I had an issue with the flipper drive being somewhat damaged after a couple of uses. I emailed the company and within five minutes they got back to me. They wanted pictures of the damage, and in the next message, less than an hour later, I see a notification that said order placed. They had already ordered a completely new pedal drive for free because it was covered under the warranty. Overall, the prices and customer service really sets this company apart from many other big names. read more

Great product! I had never heard of this company, but was looking for a foot-powered kayak that I could use while recovering from shoulder surgery. I'd heard of the Hobie versions but, when I compared them to BKC's options, BKC offered better selection and considerably more value, for what seems to be an equivalent product. Free shipping, delivered to my driveway in less than a week--fantastic! I've been enjoying the kayak immensely. My wife and I live on Lake Michigan and normally get out to paddle 2-3 days a week between May and October, so kayaking is a huge part of our lives. The prospect of not being able to get out on the water for nearly 5 months was crushing but, thanks to BKC, I can still enjoy time on the lake. The pedal system is well-engineered, easy to install/remove, and completely intuitive to use. And pretty efficient, too--I can ALMOST keep up with my wife, if she goes easy on me! read more

really nice quality kayak. I love the pedal style with forward and reverse it's so easy to maneuver around all day without out fatigue. the rudder is surprisingly responsive so steering is pretty great. one complaint I have would be the paddle. for the amount of money this kayak costs I really think it should come with a quality paddle. that thing is absolute junk. but over all I'm happy with the kayak and the customer service is top notch I accidentally purchased the wrong kayak. they responded and gave me a full refund within minutes. after I purchased the correct kayak they actually got it to my house in less than 24 hours because I live in NJ so if you're from NJ or anywhere around that is an added bonus. they have also been extremely helpful with any questions i have had about my kayak. I purchased the BKC 9-Foot modular. When broken down, it fits in the back of my Volkswagen Jetta! (with the back seats down).The tracking isnt bad for its smaller size. I live in low country SC, and it is highly navigable on the marshy, winding areas around here. It is light enough that my 5'6" self can take it from my car up to my 3rd floor condo for storage. Speaking of height, if you're over 5'8" or 5'9" I would highly recommend a bigger kayak As I fit comfortably with the seat as far back as it will go. Note it does not come with a cover to apply to the kayak when you remove the pedals, and no place built in for a drink holder, but you can purchase a cover and I'm working on improvising something for my reusable bottle. I ordered my BKC PK11 back in May of this year expecting a 6 week wait for delivery, it arrived only 8 days after I ordered it . It did however arrive wi the wrong drive system. I reached out to Issac at BKC & he quickly sent me a return label & I received the correct drive unit 2 days later . I've only been out in this kayak twice but am super happy with my purchase. this yak is super comfortable ( I've had 2 back surgeries ) & was able to be out all day with no issues at all . it's also very stable & easy to maneuver. If your looking for a great pedal drive kayak that doesn't break the bank. I would highly recommend BKC kayaks & Issac is the best customer service representative I've had in a long time !
