Some of the doctors here are very good but a bit confused. Some are just terrible. Be careful who you make an appt with. We prefer Dr. Martin. Some of the technicians are good. Depends on their level of stress. I really dislike the receptionists. You call and are immediately on hold. I have waited up to 5 minutes to be picked up. Not in an emergency, but what if it were? They may be super busy but.... Also, their voices are so angry sounding! It different in person. It seems Dr. Pernice likes a front of gangsters protecting his lobby and phones. The Bay Ridge office is much better. read more

After calling ahead and being told it would be about 75$ to deworming and check out an abandoned kitten I took in, I was charged close to 150$ I'm disabled And don't have any spare cash these days yet these people as nice as they were took it upon themselves to overcharge me by double. This is a stray kitten that needed help for gosh sakes, and they still ripped me off. Even after i told them it would be coming out of my family food money for the week the demanded payment in full. These people are in it for the money and only the money. yes they love animals but they love money more. Dont be fooled. No good deed goes unpunished in this city! Will not be going back here ever. I have been a client with BVG for years now. They have always been professional courteous and accomidating! The staff always makes time to answer my questions or a call back the doctor has always been made in a timely manner. My many animals have all been treated wonderfully. I not only use the vet service but trust them with my difficult to manage dog as well as my ornary bird for boarding and grooming needs. We really only come once a year since our pup rarely has issues. We've met with Dr Pernice and then Dr Sweeney when he was out. They renovated in the last year so the office and waiting area looks great. The service is pretty quick and they genuinely seem to care about our animals. One star off because they always assume and add on heartworm meds to my visit when I only wanted approval to purchase from 1800petmeds (so much cheaper for the same thing). read more

I can't say enough good things about Dr. Gambino. I switched to this vet for my two cats and it was a great decision. Dr. Gambino is knowledgeable, friendly, easy to talk to and most of all trustworthy. I never feel that she is trying to sell me on procedures that my cats don't need just to pad the bill. The Brooklyn Veterinary Group, in my opinion, might be the best veterinary establishment in Brooklyn. I take my dog to this place regularly- the veterinarians are thoughtful and do excellent jobs. They are extremely kind and act that way not only to you, but to your pet as well. The vets examine thoroughly and listen carefully and quietly to your issues and usually solves them easily. I have seen many pet veterinary groups in the past, this one would definitely go on my list as number one, easily. The service is perfect. The receptionists are also very kind, unlike your typical veterinary groups where the receptionists can get a bit unkind. If you are looking for a perfect vet group to bring your pet to, this is definitely the place, easily. I cannot stress that enough, come here and experience it yourself. I can almost guarantee your experience will be great, if not right on point. The Brooklyn Veterinary Group always opens up at 10 AM. Beware if your dog has any ear issues!! My poor little dog had ear mites which would have been an easy cure, but he had me convinced it was some sort of allergy. So every few months I would have to go back to have her ears cleaned out, my dog would cry and he said she was an actress!! Thank God I went on google and sure enough , the pictures of ear mites was exactly what my dog had! When I called Dr. Pernice to tell him he denied the whole thing!! read more

FINALLY a veterinarian that doesn't gouge you and try to soak you for money you don't have. My Jack Russell has an ulcer in his eye and a problem with his lower spine. The visit, shot of steroids, two eye medications and a cone/collar only cost me $186.00 . I know if I'd gone anywhere else I'd have been upwards of $300.00 by the end of it. The place is clean, and the front desk office manager person is SO nice and helpful, and professional. (most places I've seen in NYC may have a decent enough doctor, but their office staff can be rude, unhelpful, and very unprofessional) Everyone there was just great. Even when I move into Hell's Kitchen soon, I'll still take my dog out to Brooklyn Veterinary Group. No way am I giving money to any of those crooks in Manhattan. If you can get your pet to BVG, do it. You won't be sorry, and you'll have money to spare. read more

what can I say but they were very nice and very accommodating. The whole staff from the front office to the techs to DR pernice who is awesome I cant say anything bad just everything was great . Scrappy just adores everyone here and I like that they are helpful and understanding . Everyone here seems to just love and adore animals which made me feel good because i have been to other vets and at times it looked like it was there job to deal with animals but here they hug and kiss the animals and make the animals feel safe and try to make them as comfortable as can be . if your in the area come to Brooklyn vet and they also have a brand new location in the bay ridge area . great job guys keep up the good work read more

I took our cat in for a check-up, he was having some issues with loose stool. Our appointment was at 11am and I was in the exam room at11:10am. He got some meds the help his gut bacteria - the visit and medicine came to less than $80. I was out of their offices by 11:40am so all in all I was pleased with the visit. The Dr was really cool, too. I have to wait and see if the cat is cured of course, but the visit was painless which is a great start! read more

The last few times I've been there I had to wait about 1 hour each time in a room, even with an appointment. My dog also needed a special shampoo, they told me that I can come by anytime to pick up the shampoos as needed. When I called to ask for the shampoo, they made an excuse saying that we needed to see the Dr first and that it's been too long since we saw her (meanwhile it was less than 6 months ago). I'm always able to get my dogs in when needed and the staff are very friendly and are happy to answer any questions we have without rushing out to the next patient. Came here after having a horrible experience at Animal Clinic of Marine Park. The whole staff was very nice and informative. Dr. P was amazing! Honestly one of the kindest vets. You can tell that he genuinely loves animals so much and he treated my baby with so much love. I got the bloodwork and stool results literally the next day. That rarely ever happens! I read reviews on yelp and was ready to have a good experience with this clinic :) Here is my opinion. First of all, they charge 77$ or so for stool test. That's RIDICULOUS!!! And they want me to do it every two weeks. What, am I looking like a rich idiot? :))) They charge for recheck whatever they want. So, i was told that it would be 30$, and it turned out to be 41. Why? "Each doctor decides himself how much it costs" or some bs like that. That was the answer. Vet staff is weird. Wanted to drag the dog to the room, carry him to put on the weight scale (and probably scare him of that thing for the rest of his life, just wait a second he did it himself). 2 visits the same shit. They made a mistake in a stool sample... Called and told me that everything is fine when it wasn't (giardia). So it's been 3 weeks since he has it. Got the pills only now. Vet clinic on 20 ave and 74st is just so much better. read more

Dr. Pernice and his staff here are absolutely incredible - first class service! My dog got really sick a few weeks ago, Dr. Pernice was quick to discover why he was sick and how we can treat him. This was my first time visiting this place after my other vet recently closed down. Dr. Pernice called a few days later to check up on my dog and he personally told me to reach out to him if something changes. I took my cat to see Dr. Wendy Sweeney because she was suffering from a severe kidney problem, needed an ultrasound and my vet was not equipped to do one without calling in an outside service. I wasn't expecting much, just trying to find the best place to do this procedure. After calling so many places that were ridiculously expensive, I finally found Brooklyn Veterinary Group and made an appointment. Not only did I find them to be very nice and accommodating to an obviously distraught pet owner, but I found Dr. Sweeney to be very knowledgeable and helpful. She took the time to completely explained my cat's condition in a way my previous vet had not and gave me all of my options in how to treat her. Their vet technician Rob then sat with me for 15 to 20 minutes explaining how to give my cat fluid injections. All this and they didn't even charge me for the exam, which they were supposed to do according to their policy but didn't because of the expense of the ultrasound and the fact that she had just been seen by another vet. I am actually planning to take all of my cats there from now on to see Dr. Sweeney. I just wish it was closer to my apartment. read more

I first came to Brooklyn Veterinary Group when I adopted a rabbit and found that not many veterinary groups in Brooklyn will treat rabbits. They were great. Then I adopted my cat, Miles, and when I brought him in for a checkup we found he had tapeworm. They were very thorough in their testing, and of course I kept hearing kaching-kaching-kaching as they explained the nature of this condition. Turns out it wasn't too expensive and they actually offered to split the payments (I didn't ask) since he required two shots. Now Miles is healthy & happy and I am very satisfied with the doctors and staff there, even the receptionists are friendly and helpful. You can tell that everyone who works there are true animal lovers and not just out to make money. read more

I LOVE Brooklyn Vet Group. Dr. Pernice is the best, and I also really love Robert, the technician. They both take the time to answer your questions and explain everything. I don't think I ever waited longer than 20 minutes to see the doctor, and the receptionists are super helpful too. I took my older cat here some time ago for an annual check up. The staff was nice and accommodating and the wait time wasn't bad. The vet came in with us after a few minutes and began examining my petrified cat. Everything was fine until she started poking around his ears. First off most cats don't like long Q-tips in their ears but she just kept going and going until I asked her to stop. Let me say that up until this point, my cat never had any gunk in this ear nor did he have ear problems. A few days after our visit to the vet, I noticed a lot of scratching. I took a look at his ears and saw that they were FILLED with what looked like black ear wax. We took him back to the vet that weekend, and she claimed it was "allergies." What kind of allergies appear suddenly in an 11yr old cat and where they suddenly came from she did not know. But that was her diagnosis. She gave me a solution to wash his ears with but several months later his ears are still not clean. We will be taking him to another vet this year for a check-up. read more

They did great work with my difficult kitty. I got her microchipped and it was quick and efficient. My cat can be very grumpy and make a huge fuss, so they were very careful and safe considering the hazard! The office is spotless and stylish - very comfy and welcoming. Dr. Pernice is an excellent vet. He loves what he does and he shows it. Every time I go to Brooklyn Vet Group he is as sweet as can be to my cat and dog. He won't try to rip you off like some other vets, ex. you have to bring in your pup for maybe an ear infection he'll charge you a mini exam fee of $40 instead of $60. Then for the follow up check up of the ear, he doesn't charge anything at all. Other vets would see this as an opportunity to charge you $60 every time you come in just to look at the ear. I knocked off 1 star because when i got my new puppy, I called to make an appointment with Dr. Pernice but he wasn't available until pretty late and by the recommendation of a receptionist they suggested that I can go to their new location at bay ridge and 5th ave. The receptionist told me the vet there was great.....well he was not so great. He seemed kinda lazy and i actually brought up the ear smelling extremely funky but he kept brushing it off saying that its normal. So within a few weeks my pup's ear became extremely edematous and infected and he still brushed it off. Ugh, the 2 times i went there, he gave his vaccinations with the quickness and went off in the back of the room to watch tv =/ I'll stick with Dr. Pernice thank you very much! read more

I love Brooklyn Vet group it is the place to go to bring your animals. All the doctors are amazing i have seen all of them; Dr Mary Martin, Dr. Sal Pernice, Dr. Anthony Miele and Dr. Brandon Hayes. The thing i love most about brooklyn vet group is that they care so much about your pet. I saw some people complained about their prices but when it comes to giving the proper care and treatment to your pet it is all worth it in the end. I love Dr. Pernice and his staff. I take my 2 dogs there and have always recommended the Brooklyn Veterinary Group to anyone who has asked where they should take their dog. But whatever you do , DO NOT take them there to be groomed by Natalie. We thought it would be a good idea to take them to have special attention given to their ears and glands. We specifically told her NOT to cut them - just trim and clean them . Well , I have to say, after being there from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm , they looked horrible. I cannot believe she shaved them down , legs and neck and whatever was left of their hair was not even . They were stressed out to the point where my older dog was sick for a few days . I was so upset with her and how my dogs looked . I have never had such a botched up grooming job done to my animals , and I have had dogs for years and have gone to many different groomers. Do your animal a favor and DO NOT have Natalie touch your babies. read more

Let me first talk about my cat #1, whom I've adopted, whoever initially did her spay did not do a good job because she was still in heat. So I took her to Dr. Pernice to do a re-spay. 3 months after that, my cat was in heat again and I eventually took her back to Dr. Pernice. Here's where I get upset. He seemed a bit stubborn to believe the fact that he probably didn't do a clean spay job. So I've wasted money on a 2nd spay procedure and a failed one at that. He gave me the impression that he was going to do a full blood work including the hormonal blood test to see if she really still had ovarian tissue causing her to go into heat and rule out whatever is going on. Then he went ahead and only did the full blood test WITHOUT the hormonal blood test. The full blood test showed nothing of course so he pretty much dismissed it as the cat is probably being affectionate, as if I can't tell the difference between a cat in heat and a cat being affectionate. So I've wasted a lot of $$$ down the drain for the visit and the full blood work for nothing because he didn't do the hormonal blood work, probably because he didn't want to admit that he messed up and didn't do a clean thorough spay. So I took my cat to Dr. Giangola at narrows animal hospital, who performed the hormonal blood work (like Dr. Pernice should have done) and of course it came back high/abnormal. I had Dr. G do the THIRD spay for my cat and he sent out whatever he cut out to the lab and it WAS ovarian tissue that Dr. Pernice may have missed.. Thanks to Dr G, my cat is no longer in heat. I've wasted money on Dr. Pernice for an expensive unclean spay job and a expensive unnecessary full blood test. Not to mention that my cat had to go through being cut open THREE times because the previous two doctors didn't get it right. Now about my second cat, who has passed away from Fibrosarcoma. We took our 2nd cat to Dr. Pernice because our cat grew a lump on her leg. He looked at it, wiggled it, and dismissed it as probably benign because he can still wiggle it and it didn't seem stuck or attached (wrong again). I asked him if he should take a biopsy but he said something about due to the size of the growth, he might poke an area that might give him inaccurate results. I had my doubts so I decided to go back to Dr. G for a second opinion. He said he didn't want to say if it's benign or cancer without running a test so he did a histology (which Dr. Pernice should have done to get an accurate diagnosis) and the test came back as fibrosarcoma(CANCER). Unfortunately after two surgery attempts to remove it, the growth came back angry the third time and ulcerated, we had no choice but to put our cat to sleep last night. Since she died it kind of encouraged me to write this review because of time and money wasted when I took her to Dr. Pernice. This was a fast growing cancer and it was at the early stages where amputation could have been an option when I brought her to Dr. Pernice, had he diagnosed her properly that is, but then it's my fault for going back. Because of those two bad experiences, failed spay and does not admit to it and making me pay for tests that didn't help, and misdiagnosing my cats tumor, I would not go back to Dr. Pernice, he just didn't take the necessary steps and precautions to treat two of my cats. read more

On 9/19/10 my family walked by a sidewalk sale and there was an un-well kitten in a cage - it was a hot day and there was no water. At the urging of our 14 year old daughter, we agreed to take it in, try and nurse it to health and later find it a home (we have two dogs). Its health deteriorated so two days later, on 9/21 we brought her to Brooklyn Vet. Group, where we've been bringing our two dogs for years. Imagine our surprise when we found out that the woman who gave us the kitten on the sidewalk was a technician there! The visit, which revealed the kitten to have round worms and diarrhea, cost $80. The kitten proceeded to get worse and when we called the vet and explained that we got this cat from one of their technicians, they maintained that we would still be financially responsible for any treatments. We were very concerned because the kitten had not eaten in 2 days and we were afraid it would soon die. What kind of vet office would 1) have an employee who would not get help for a sick kitten and rather, leave it in the hot sun, and 2) would charge us for trying to rescue a sick cat that one of its employees tried to give away? The kitten died last night. It is not my implication that it would have been saved, but had the technician gotten treatment for the kitten its chances would have increased dramatically. We will no longer bring our animals to Brooklyn Vet. Group. read more

My husband and i have been taking our dog here since we got him (almost 2 years). We have recommended them to a bunch of people who have also started going there and are also thrilled with the doctors and techs. On top of that, i have family members that have been using them for over 10 years. We have seen Drs Sweeney, Miele and Pernice and they are all great! Thankfully, our dog, Coby, has only been seriously sick once and Dr. Pernice called a few times to check up on him. They have answered every question i have had, even the ridiculous "im an overprotective mom" questions that i have a ton of. Very patient, very kind. The Vet techs, Rob and Melissa, are equally amazing. When Coby sees either of them, he loses his mind with excitement. I'll put it this way, on one visit, we were sitting in the waiting room and the owner of another dog said "wow, i've never seen a dog this excited to go to the vet!" And really, he is the one who's opinion matters the most :) The receptionists as well are very sweet and knowledgeable. Highly recommend them! read more
