Before handing over your furry friend to get "vaccinated" please make sure and ask what the vets are going to give your furry animal because in my case they told me they would give my dog his REGULAR NORMAL vaccines as always!! WRONG These people "vaccinated" my dog when I even specifically said I just wanted the normal vaccines he always gets!! I look through the paper work and I see "nasal" bordetella!! I was not told about this until AFTER they finished giving him that "vaccine" because before I let my dog go to get vaccinated they clearly stated it will be all the VACCINES he ALWAYS gets nothing of nasal bordetella was ever mentioned!! Got home and he was feeling terrible!! Throwing up, swollen eyes, hives all over his body, lack of oxygen and he was just so uncomfortable!! If they wanted to give him something "new" they should have ATLEAST asked me or try to recommend it to me so I can further more look into it!! So it seems that some companies do not like honest reviews. I had updated my review that had been up for a year. and it was removed because they didn't like the fact that I had questioned them on their ethical actions accusing me of getting them confused about taking care of my furbaby. I'm pretty sure it was this place. If you are smart and truly care about you fur babies I truly suggest you do not go to this place, they will refer you to pay crazy expensive amounts of money on test not warranted and not truly help your pets or make them better. Tried to set up an appointment and the receptionist hung up on me. She wasn't helpful and rude.

Let me start by saying that my ten-year-old Tibetan Terrier is like my third child. He means the world to me, so I take his care seriously. My dog turns ten on Saturday and has become very picky with food. I brought him in today because he has lost a few pounds and has not had a bowel movement in a week. I was initially asked a series of questions by an attendant who immediately concerned me. I told him my dog was no longer interested in dry food and that I was actually glad because dry food for dogs is terribly processed and filled with harmful additives. He told me I was completely wrong and that dry food was actually great for dogs! I then told him I gave my dog organic pumpkin - recommended as a fiber-filled method of getting your dog to poop - and he told me that I made a wrong choice. That pumpkin was not the right thing to feed my constipated dog. PLEASE, EVERYONE - Google what you feed a constipated dog! I am no expert, but I certainly know how to research from credible sources. After a five-minute exam with a lack of clarity on the possible issues, the vet told me that an admin person would be in to tell me the cost of the various tests that could be done to determine what is wrong. About $1k in tests with no staging or even a clear sense of what might be the issue. I am not naive and know that tests are necessary to assess problems. My concern, however, was the lack of empathy, staging, concern about cost, and general callousness I experienced at Greenwood today. I am more than willing and able to cover anything my dog needs to be healthy. What I am not willing to do is fill someone's pockets at the expense of my dog's health. read more

UPDATE: Dr Anthony Zaccheo is now at One Love on Atlantic Avenue. They have a location in Bay Ridge too but I Uber-ed all the bay to Atlantic because no one else will ever see my dog. THIS IS THE BEST MONEY I'VE EVER SPENT. Before I review, let me just say that when I came here, I thought my dog was going to die. -The Doctor spoke to me CLEARLY, THOROUGHLY, and is extremely KNOWLEDGEABLE -The staff show an incredible level of love and kindness for my dog -They have NEVER nickel & dimed me or surprised me with expenses we did not first discuss -The office visit was only about $66 I came to Anthony from another vet in Dyker Heights, which was walking distance to my home. The tests from that other vet were not explained properly and I started to feel anxious as my dog got worse & worse. The number of mistakes they'd made also gave me a really bad feeling in my gut. My impression was they had no clue what they were doing, but were still taking my money. My 12 year old min pin was vomiting with bloody diarrhea for months. She would not eat and lost weight. I took 2 blood workups from that mediocre vet and brought it here for a 2nd opinion, and they were quite surprised that it wasn't explained to me that my dog is having a SEVERE KIDNEY issue. It was obvious from the blood work that her kidneys were getting worse. Apparently, it should have been painfully obvious if you're a vet who knows how to read what you're looking at. HERE THEY KNEW WHAT THEY SAW RIGHT AWAY. There were things that were then done here at a discounted rate, and even free, because I'd already been spending money at this other vet. Anthony gave me rx kidney dog food samples, recommended kidney supplements, medication and a diet of only certain fruit & veggie snacks. We also ran many tests, which weren't really necessary but I wanted to cancel out all other possibilities. I spent about $270 at one visit and then $200 for another, and that was for the tests that we agreed to have done. I was not pressured and they were teats I wanted to have done. My dog is now consistently on the rx kidney dog food and med and is healthier and more energetic than I've ever seen. I believe they saved her life and would NEVER EVER TRUST ANOTHER VET FOR HER CARE. read more

I've only been here once so far with one of my cats, but I can't wait to bring the other one in. I'll start this off by saying that my cats have been described as "extremely difficult" by past. I love them dearly, but they are both hard to handle and have had pretty bad experiences with vets. The last vet was very friendly but wasn't able to see my cat for a routine exam without sedating him and unfortunately he seemed to be having issues with balance and mobility the procedure. They also told me that his coat looked great but I later found out he had fleas. So I decided it might be time to look elsewhere. Firstly, their customer service is incredible. The young man at the front desk is so patient. I've called quite a few times and he's always friendly, super polite, and patient with all my questions. Quality customer service is hard to find, especially in Brooklyn lol When I arrived for our appointment, the office was quiet and peaceful and I barely had to wait five minutes before being seen. The tech who weighed my cat and took down some information was also extremely professional and friendly. He let my cat walk around, smell things, and even let me put my cat on the scale myself since he gets anxious around new people. I saw Dr. Fortier who I later read graduated from MSU (go Spartans!) and was impressed. I can be a bit of a crazy cat mom and usually ask a lot of questions. He was patient and explained all the options and why he wanted to try a certain food trial for my cat. I had to order special food from Petco that requires a prescription and Dr. Fortier approved it quickly within the same day that I requested it. And the best part- he didn't sedate my cat! After our last experience with him getting sedated, I was very nervous about that possibility. I was so relieved when they were able to examine him without sedation because of his adverse reaction at the previous vets office. Lastly, their prices were shocking- and I mean that in the best way. I barely paid over $100 for the exam and all medications. They also gave me some free samples. At the previous vet I went to, the same services would have been closer to $200. Oat is the first dog I have had. Everything I learned about dogs was through books, videos and friends. When I got her she had a lot of issues with her bowel movement, urination and some infections. Don't go here!!!! This office only cares about money. Your pets needs will never come first. After having a whole dispute with them which I thought we settled, they still went and denied my pet his monthly medication (heartgard and nexgard) for NO REASON. I contacted chewy to find out the reason they denied it and chewy told me they did not provide a reason. What cruel and disgusting people work here!!! My dog was last seen one week ago and his weight was taken. The vet tech even said there is no need to make an appointment with the doctor if my pet does not have any issues. The requested medication is his monthly medication per his exact weight, which has been previously approved multiple times. If you have any issues you could have called us instead of trying to make my pet suffer without medication. Just purely disgusting. UPDATE: Apparently wouldn't approve the medication because a year supply was requested. Again, NO call NO notification, and wouldn't explain this to chewy. Thanks to chewy for contacting us and letting us know it was at least denied. Would not approve for the smallest quantity either because the dog needs a follow up appointment to check to "make sure he does not have heart worms." LOL. He has no signs or symptoms, never previously had issues. Also he was seen last week and tech specifically said no vet appointment is needed because NOTHING IS WRONG. Dr. Zawie and his team are seriously the best. If you're looking for the humanity of a neighborhood vet, plus the high tech know-how of a hospital with the ability to address more complicated health issues, you've found your place. Last January, I adopted a 2 year old cat that immediately sprouted some ear cancer, and I was left with the difficult task of caring for (and spending lots of money on) a cat I hardly knew (she's lucky she's so cute). One surgery at kitty's former regular vet, a more serious surgery at VERG, this thing kept growing back. I was frustrated with the lack of clear direction from VERG when the growth was back, and really not looking good. Without really knowing what to do, I emailed Dr. Zawie after reading some positive reviews, and without even coming in, he spoke to me on the phone for 20 minutes: free advice, thoughts on how he might handle this issue. I knew right away that he knew his stuff and he was the answer we needed. Long story short, in July Dr. Zawie's surgeon Dr. Infernuso performed a TECA (Total Ear Canal Ablation) for my cat. On my wedding weekend, agreeing to keep for her for 3 days without extra charge as a wedding gift, so we didn't have to worry about care during the craziness of having family in town and all. When we picked her up, she was just as adorable with her one ear (although a bit funny looking with half her head shaved). The sutures and everything looked clean. Really as good as you could look after having an ear removed. They did a great job. The recovery was smooth. Oh, and then we went away for a weekend, as lil honeymoon, and they kept her again, for free! The whole staff is great. Giovanna Ferrigno, Dr. Zawie's assistant, is extremely caring and smart. They all know their stuff, and they have a humanity to them that some of the more advanced facilities don't always have. Also, their prices are more affordable than the larger vet hospitals. It's been about 3 months since the surgery, and our cat has never been happier. So far, no sign of any return of the cancer. She's more comfortable, less anxious. She has really good hearing in her one cancer-free ear! She's finally living her life without health issues. This is the longest stretch we've gone since adopting her where she's had a clean bill of health. It seems likely that they really cured this cancer (fingers and paws crossed!). Thank you, Dr. Zawie! And both Bensonhurst and Greenwood offices. You really saved our cat. read more

I honestly did not want to give a one star rating, but I was actually very disappointed with their approach--I wanted to take my dog to the nearest veterinary clinic due to his ruptured abscess. I called in advance to make an appointment, and it was fully confirmed yesterday. On the day of, today/earlier, I also called in advance because I was going to be roughly 5-10 minutes late due to hard ice/snow on my boyfriend's car and slight traffic. Very understandable right? But nope, we were literally 5 minutes away from the clinic and they told me they have to cancel/reschedule.. so you're telling me you guys were double-booked? lol so if i came in first before the other person did, you would've cancelled the other person's appointment as well? I felt like they could've handled the situation better by understanding people's commute and different circumstances due to weather condition (expect at least 10 minutes late arrival and NOT CANCEL ON THE SPOT), especially during a pandemic. I'm really happy with my experience at Greenwood Vet so far. The staff is all really helpful and accommodating. It's easy to reach them on the phone or email. The doctor's that we've seen so far (mainly Dr. Fortier) take the time to answer all of our questions. They've even provided some complimentary service when we had to bring our boy in for multiple visits due to an ongoing ear infection. This is our first pup and therefore our first vet, so I'm not really sure how the pricing compares to other offices. But I'm super happy with the service they provide. I definitely look forward to being able to go into the office post-pandemic, but appreciate that in the meantime they're following protocol to keep their staff and clients safe. read more

My normal vet service is their other clinic Bensonhurst Veterinary Care but as the doctors do rotate especially my Dr. Zawie, we needed to take a trip to Greenwood for my cat Vidar. He desperately needed Dental Surgery on his teeth so we brought him to Greenwood to not have to wait. The staff while is of the same excellence and professionalism as their sister site at Bensonhurst from the techs, staff to the doctors. Dr. Zaccaheo had to do Vidar's surgery in the end as Dr. Zawie had an unexpected emergency leave. Vidar couldn't of been in better hands, he was treated gently, lovingly and even though the poor boy needed 7 teeth pulled he was his sweet self not even six hours later with no post-op complications. They are very quick the doctors both Drs. Zawie & Zaccaheo or a vet tech to answer my emails when I had any questions about Vidar's care. Following their recommendation after their first visit I got pet insurance and they did everything they could to assist me in getting most of Vidar's surgery covered. Everyone who works there is so helpful and I always get a detailed explanation on each aspect of my cat RoRo's care, which I'm especially grateful for now since I can't go into his appointments due to Covid precautions. The folks at the front desk are very knowledgeable so they're able to answer many of the questions I've typically had to wait to speak to a vet about at other offices--things like whether you need to refrigerate a medication, cost differences between treatment options, etc. While you can't go into the office with your pet at the moment, they've created a pretty seamless system for checking pets in, talking about symptoms & treatments on the phone, and paying / checking out. I am excited for it to eventually open back up, though! It has a good atmosphere, is wheelchair accessible, and has lots of space inside. read more

They sent them the records and also included this message: "O called today stated she spoke to a female about 3 days ago explaining that her dog was limping - As per O the female she spoke to told her to rest the pet for 48 hours and to not make an appointment and it should go away. - O called today demanding she needs to be seen she stated she will walk in and speak to the Dr. and have her pet be seen whether we like it or not. I explained to O that clients are not able to walk in and she will need to follow our hospital protocals" To share an update that is false like that and only includIng half the information is TOTALLY wrong. Especially to a THIRD PARTY. No one here demanded anything. In fact I called a total of 5 times asking for help and was only met with rudeness and zero compassion. Shame on this place. read more

The time has come to leave this review... even though my experience was years ago. I was scrolling through online vets looking for a CT scan for my cat and I saw this vet's name. Time doesn't change a vet that would do what this one did so I an fulfilling my moral obligation and writing this review. I had chosen this vet because he had previously performed a home euthanasia for my dog. It was a good experience as euthanasia experiences go. When it was time for my dog JoJo to leave, I again called this vet. I chose him over the vet treating him for cancer because of my previous experience. It was urgent and an appointment was made for the next day. I didn't want to wait but felt we could manage one more day. This vet canceled that next day's euthanasia appointment. Leaving us to desperately look for someone who could come for a same day euthanasia. Leaving a dying dog that he knew needed to leave urgently. No explanation. No, I am in the hospital or terribly sick. Just a call from his office saying he was canceling.The vet that had been treating JoJo came through to my ever lasting gratitude. What an experience! From beginning to end, everything was so perfect and warm. The facility itself is beautifully decorated and very clean. The pictures on the walls made the visit 10x better. There is even coffee and tea in the waiting area, and plenty of treats for the patients. Our tech, Brian, was very helpful. He did a fantastic job. Dr. Fortier was friendly and very knowledgable. I tried Greenwood Vets for a few years after we moved to the neighborhood. In the beginning they were ok (since then the vet we saw and staff have changed) and we hadn't had any pet emergencies. This past summer my dog was stung by multiple wasps while we were away upstate. I called the office to ask the Vet for advice while my dogs face was swelling up. The reception wouldn't even deliver my message to a doctor. Their response was cold and informal- "the vet is with a patient and will be booked for the rest of the day". No sympathy or remorse or even effort to reach the vet. I called our old vet at Carroll Gardens Vet Group and even though we hadn't been there in 2 years, the Vet called me right back and spent a good 15 minutes with me going over options. They were all very kind, caring and helpful unlike Greenwood. My other bad experience with them was during a covid summer visit and my dog had a shoulder injury and the vets would not walk outside with her even though she was too scared to be examined properly without me in the room. A waste of time and money on my end while they just seem to be a factory. They also vaccinated my dog twice for Bordetella even though I told them both times not too and then made me pay anyway. I find their receptionists to be rude and the vets to be detached in my experience. I just asked for my pets records and they were sent with not even a simple reply. Literally the best decision I've made this year lol. I needed to pick a permanent vet for my dog, I googled and searched and came across greenwood. Called the first time just for basic info and the receptionist was so nice, I felt like making my choice then. Maybe a day or two later after looking up more vets, I just went with my instinct and chose greenwood. My baby needed an appointment ASAP. Once again, the receptionist was soooooo nice I'm like wtf ? I have been here twice now with my dog and each time I am left very, very pleased with the services! I refuse to take my furbaby anywhere else. First time was seeing Dr. Zaccheo, who was amazing, listened patiently, answered my million questions and put me at ease about the issue but I dont think he is there anymore unfortunately. And the second was Dr. Fortier, who was also courteous, very knowledgeable and thorough. He explained everything clearly, answered my questions and offered solutions. We had to run a blood test and he called me at 7:51am the very next morning to let me know the results (wow! That was quick! I loved that) And what I love also is that at Greenwood, they are sensitive to the fact that some services can be very costly so they may offer less expensive alternatives for the time being that will still help your pet. Its not like "Oh well thats what the price is, sorry! You want it or not??" They're not just purely money-hungry and actually truly care about your pets. The front desk ladies are also a pleasure to deal with always! Very nice & helpful. They also have a Bensonhurst location, which I havent been to yet but also has a ton of great reviews so Im sure its equally as awesome. My cat isn't the nicest at the vet and it's always an ordeal but they do what they can and will only sedate if absolutely necessary. I'm very happy and satisfied with their care and cost. I came to Bensonhurst and then here, this was my vet clinic for years for all 3 of my dogs, 2 of whom required a lot of care in the last year of their lives. The doctors were pretty good overall and Greenwood had parking, which was great. Then Covid hit. It was a hardship to stand outside (sometimes for quite a long time after being told they were ready for me) but I understood- safety above all. However, as restrictions lifted everywhere, I was still made to stand outside Greenwood and wait for someone to admit my dog; they never seemed to time it well so I was always standing outside for 10-15 minutes (when the parking lot is literally a 1 minute walk to the door). During the Covid period, the staff in both locations became really surly and rude- sort of like I was bothering them by being at the door. I tolerated that for a while but what ultimately broke this practice for me was that the last two times I came to Greenwood, I saw that SOME people were allowed inside with their pet, but I wasn't. The first time, I made excuses for them, but after the second time, I was too offended to return with my last remaining dog. When looking for a new vet, I actually found Dr Fortier, who had been really great with my dogs, and yes it WAS nice to be invited indoors to sit down. read more

I went down the line of Vets with good reviews, and there was an opening here available for my Mini Schnauzer Rocky, who had some stomach issues and just was not himself. Not only was it easy to get him in to be seen right away, there is also....Drum Roll........PARKING available!!!! Say Whaaat? In NYC??? Yes. I said Parking Felicia!!!! The office is an immaculate, new, stylish and modern-state of the art facility. Doctor Fortier was informative and lovely &had great bedside manner with my little boy.And all of the other staff from receptionist to assistants provided an amazing customer experience. Had a horrific experience with another veterinarian, and then found these guys on Yelp and I am so grateful that I did! The veterinarian (Dr. Zawir), saw my 11 year old Rottweiler and spent almost a while hour with her checking her from head to toe to see if she had cancer tumors anywhere else other than the large one on her hind leg that the previous vet was just a fatty tumor...... Every single assistant was as kind as humanly possible and this will not be forgotten. I only wish I found you guys last year because the tumor would have never grown to the size that it is now had my dog been seen by qualified, competent individuals like this team. I recently had to say goodbye to my 16 year old cat, Frankie, after dealing with a long illness that was kept at bay until things took a turn for the worse. Frankie had been to every Dr. at Greenwood and Bensonhurst Veterinary Care during his life so they all knew him and the care he received up until the end was top notch and progressive until there was nothing more that could be done despite the excellent treatment plans of Dr. Zawie, Dr. Zaccheo and Dr. Fortier. Saying goodbye to my Frankie was one of the hardest goodbyes I've had in my life and the compassion shown to Frankie and me was incredible. I was able to be with and hold Frankie as he passed and I was able to take my time saying goodbye through my tears. I'm truly grateful to them all from the doctors to the front desk crew, to the amazing vet techs and administrative staff. They not only treat your pets with the utmost care and love, they also show the owners that same compassion and concern. This place is amazing! We saw Dr. Zaccheo and had a wonderful experience. Never before have we worked with a doctor who took the sort of time he did to truly get to know our pup and her unique situation. He is clearly incredibly knowledge, and his love of animals truly shines through. He followed up with us promptly and encouraged us to call him anytime if we had questions or concerns regarding our dog's health. We left feeling completely supported. We're new to the area and this was our first visit to Greenwood Veterinary Care. The facility is large, clean, and very comfortable. The level of service provided by the entire staff is unmatched. Needless to say, we couldn't recommend this location (or Dr. Zaccheo) more highly! read more
