I had a wedding to attend and my wardrobe needed refreshing. Too many years of business casual attire means my old suits are out of style and ill fitting. I stopped in after looking at suits online because I wanted to see the cut and quality. I immediately got the help I needed. I had pretty much already picked out my suit, verified in person, so the rest was about getting fitted and finished. The tailor was efficient and accurate in measuring the alterations. Recommendations for suitable shirts and ties were helpful. I had to have the suit shipped since I was leaving Chicago before the alterations could be finished. I chose a good time to shop since the suit was on sale and I got additional $$ credited by using the BB credit card. My suit arrived on time and with an excellent fit. I went with my fiancee to look for a suit for my wedding. We were assisted by Michael, who was extremely helpful in looking at different suit options, as well as tie and pocket square ideas. I was hoping for someone to help walk me through what can be a rather overwhelming experience, and Michael did just that. He made the whole experience fun, too. My family have been Brooks Brothers customers for many years as my father was in sales and my job required to me wear a suit for quite some time. That said, when it came time to pick a suit for my upcoming wedding - I knew I wanted to go big with a Brooks Brothers Wool Sharkskin 1818 design. Having only been able to make it to the store time in the final few hours that day on a Friday, Reggie greeted me, understood my request right away and made me feel very well taken care of. He understood the urgency and care that was needed with my request and ensured he could get the suit measured with the tailors on staff just before they left for the night. I would highly recommend going through the experience of getting a special suit - just do your homework and know what you want to try on before going in as this is a store that will have what you see online whereas an outlet will not. Wouldnt recommend this place. Went in to get pricing on altering BB clothes I got online. Was told immediately they don't alter clothes that weren't just dry cleaned due to "state law" ( that's a lie there). I also asked pricing on other items and was responded to rudely throughout the conversation. It's like they didn't want my business ( BB customer for decades now). wouldn't ever go back. Best costumer service I've had in a long time. Answered every question and were extremely helpful.

We've been here a few times in the last couple of months and have had generally positive experiences. My husband needed new dress shirts because his were too large and we had some special events coming up. Because of his height, it's better for him to shop in-store to be fitted, especially for pieces that he hopes to keep for many years. Our first visit on a weekend evening was good. The store wasn't busy and the staff member who helped us was eager, if a bit anxious. She was kind, and though what we ended up with wasn't ultimately the best fit, it was light years ahead of where we started. We came back because, upon getting home, noticed there were pen marks on one of the new shirts and wanted to exchange it. The staff easily processed the return and ordered a replacement to be delivered to our home. My husband tried on a couple of different shirts while we were there at the suggestion of the staff member, who saw that the measurements may not be accurate. He was able to make some good recommendations on sleeve length (my husband's arms are impressively long) so we went with the new size. The store is tidy and organized. The staff have been friendly and eager to assist on every visit. I'm glad we found someone more knowledgable on the second visit (though nothing about the first visit or the fit of the shirt was bad - there was simply better to be found with a little more diligence). read more

Called customer service to request status and a refund on the shipping. Nothing but an argument from the rep. After twenty minutes, I gave up; which was hee intent. I've been a brook brothers customer for 25 years. Sadly disappointed that there are no longer any stores in the city and that they seem to mostly be a discount outlet shop now. Went into this branch to but my son his first real suit. Finally "greeted" by a slovenly Eastern European woman wearing what appeared to be a tank top several sizes too small for her ample frame. She very quickly told me that the 900$ suit was "crap" and "low quality" and did not come in slim fit so that he would instead need the $1600 suit. Guess what...30 seconds on the website tells me she's lying about the fit. Money aside, when the saleswoman's first instinct is to lie to my face, bye bye. I hope she works on commissions. And I hope someone can buy brooks brothers and restore this once truly iconic American brand to its former respectable state read more

A once great brand can no longer be trusted. I have a dozen BB shirts in my closet but my recent experiences have turned me away from the company. As many others on the BB site confirm, the sizes have changed from the past. If you try it on in the store, this may not be an issue. But purchasing online is very risky. You are not allowed to wear or wash the item before returning. This makes it difficult to check the size. It also means that you dare not be a nice customer that tries the shirt for a day or two in hopes that it will start to get more comfortable. I politely discussed this with customer service and a supervisor; they made it perfectly clear that the size and puckering defects were irrelevant. I even asked the supervisor what she would do in my place. She hesitantly agreed that I should no longer buy Brooks Brothers. I will give them credit for having nice customer service. The problem is that customer service has no authority or flexibility. read more

I felt like i was under a heat lamp as the person helping me determined whether i had a legitimate reason to return this awful sport coat that i had ordered online. She wanted the reason and inspected every thread. she wanted to know why i hadn't come earlier and challenged me that 7/1 is indeed July not June. They were supposed to hold my online order at the store. I was out of town and called them on Thursday afternoon that I'd return from the Memorial holidays and would pick it up on Wednesday. A male employee who picked up my call said not to worry and would hold it. When I drove all the way to the mall, guess what? I had to show them my call record on my phone. They told me that they held items only for 48 hours and asked me for the name of the person I had spoken on the phone. They made it sound as if it was my fault that I had not come to pick it up by the original pick-up time and totally ignored that I was responsibly proactive. I usually go to the downtown BB store but occasionally stop by this store in Skokie. This was not only unpleasant but was also too much hassles after driving all the way to the store after calling BB and making another call to the specific store because the company doesn't communicate with a specific item about holding an item longer. I canceled the order. Will never do another store pick up at this store. It was a total waste of my time. They need to get trained on the basic customer service skills, starting from how to respond to a customer's call and properly follow up, when a responsible customer calls. read more

Brooks Brothers has put me over the edge, but this store specifically. My husband has been a customer for over 20 years. We purchased shirts online and went in to have the shirts altered. My husband is shorter, so he needs the sleeves shortened. We went into the store and he went back to meet the tailor while I was up front to start a return. I waited for 15 minutes before being acknowledged and during this time listened to two associated that could clearly see me speak about my "short" husband. They basically were saying the wouldn't alter the shirts he purchased. They then told my husband that they no longer alter sleeve lengths because they started using a GLUE in the seams that now puckers when washed... Seriously?! They then proceeded to try to sell him custom shirts that start at $130 each. Meanwhile, about 20 minutes in, someone comes into work and is able to start the return. While it was a large return (we were returning the clothes that could't be altered and a few other items -- more than $5000 in merchandise), it took more than an hour due to the very slow computer systems. So not only did they take our time online first, then in store and also in the return, the associates were not warm or even pleasant to us. Brooks Brothers has now lost (at least) two customers for life. read more

Was disappointed none of the Brooks Brothers locations in the city of Chicago have reopened. That being said the Skokie location was the closest to me. Took a sweater back to exchange for a larger size. I was waiting for one of the Chicago locations to reopen. I want to like Brooks Brothers, but each time I go in, I'm reminded why I never give them a dime. I went in this evening with the intent of purchasing multiple suits. I walked to the back where the suits were and began browsing. No one greeted me when I walked in, no one asked if I needed help. After 10 minutes, one sales associate zoomed past me and as I tried to get her attention, she just kept walking past. 10 minutes later after still hearing from no one, I walked out, never having a single interaction with a salesperson there. If this kind of interaction was the norm at other clothing stores, I'd accept it and stand in line somewhere and ask for help, but it isn't, and so I just don't feel the desire to beg for someone's attention. The store was not overly crowded, and there were plenty of people working there. I just have no idea what they were doing. Never again. read more

Used to always shop at the one on LaSalle but have to go here for anything as all the ones in the city closed. Would say they don't live up at all to the normal service I used to get and will never be shopping this location again or Brooks Brothers for that matter. I went in for a simple return, waited in line and when it was my turn and the person at the register was helping me, another sales person came up took over the register and stared helping the customer with a sale behind me. So I just was left standing there like an idiot. Must have really needed the numbers that day. Not even a "sorry this customer is in a hurry" or sorry in general. Like I was in his way. Well don't worry. Will never be in the way again as I'm done with this company as a whole. Service was bad before this but this experience takes the cake. read more

I hate to lower my review but the service has gone down dramatically since my earlier visits at this establishment. In fact, the only time I will purchase Brooks Brothers from now on is via their phone orders or online- and NOT from the Old Orchard location. 1) Service/Competence: I have the Brooks Brothers MasterCard because I believe it's an incredible deal to get the card so you can later obtain points to redeem for coupons you can use at the store. You are prohibited from using the coupons/offers online, but terms and conditions dictate that employees can order products at the actual store for you if they are not available at the store itself. Last time I placed an order at the store with my offer and when I received my Brooks Brothers statement in the mail, the offer was never redeemed and I had to spend time calling the customer service number to redeem my offer. (Customer service over the phone was fantastic, but this review is not for their service line). Also, what I do not like is when you actually place orders at the store, you are not given a receipt or anything in writing documenting your actual order. Orders are often placed after you leave so you have to give full faith to the employee who took your order- which was placed wrongfully, in my case.. With my legal background, I've been taught to keep everything in writing in the event there is ever a future dispute. When you are not given a record of your order, this is a lot of ambiguity produced which definitely gives the company higher bargaining power. 2) My parents also love Brooks Brothers because of the longevity of the brand and the quality and service it stands for. Recently, my father went into the store to purchase some clothes. The item he wanted was not in store, but could be shipped to his house. The employees were UNABLE TO FIND HIM IN THE SYSTEM. He had his Brooks Brothers MasterCard on him and even produced it for the employee, but the employees were unable to look him up in the system. It baffles me that someone can have an actual store credit card, but not be "in the system". Some things are a mystery. I have been calling this store for over an hour so I could place an order and SPEND MONEY for three items that are scarce and the site says this location has--didn't want them to sell out. I called and called and no one answered. I called the mall management thinking the store's phones must be out so they could let them know. Finally they answered and Tim answered and he said they were too busy and ignored the phone. Excuse me? I've worked in high end clothing retail for twenty years and you NEVER ignore the phone. Might be a tad pricey but these are dependable, quality clothes that many will consider 'conservative.' You pay a bit of a premium for consistency, I guess. Not much variety of styles, and certainly nothing trendy. Which is what Brooks Bros shoppers like and expect. You can expect to pay a bit over $1K for most suits; dress shirts around $100. The in-house tailor is quite good ($80 charge for a significant alteration to your new suit; they do it in about a week). I'm not sure why there's so many negative reviews. For me, the service was fine. BTW, the suit I'm wearing in my profile is a BB suit I bought and had tailored at this location. read more

I discovered Brooks Brothers oxford shirts recently and love them. I was pleasantly surprised to find a Brooks Brothers location (Deer Park) near my home, but stopped by here one night while on my way to an appointment in the city. The service at my "home" store has been outstanding. This location: eh, not so much. I'm a little hesitant to knock this location based on one visit, but I don't plan on returning here (I'll stick with my Deer Park location). Moreover, it may sound snobbish, but when one pays premium prices for merchandise, one of the reasons for doing so is that you expect excellent customer service. It is hard for me to find anything wrong with this store, other than the fact that prices are sometime more than I would want to pay. But, this is totally counteracted by the perfect fit I can find with their shirts. How perfect? Well there are 5 cuts to fit various body types on top of being able to select the neck and arm length (and none of that 34/35, there is a choice for 34 and a choice for 35). Brooks Brothers clothing a guaranteed for life, they will sew back seams. They will move buttons if you ask them. Like many men of my generation Brooks Bros has always stood for high quality classics. Emphasis on high quality. With that in mind I decided to visit this location to purchase a custom-made sports jacket. Bad idea. First - the salesman was clearly out of his depth. Second they did not have a tailor on site so the manager did the measurements. Not ideal. Third - it took three months for the jacket to arrive. I tried it on, it fit well but when I got home I realized the sleeve buttons were not done correctly. I needed to have them done myself. Finally - I've had the jacket less than 6 months and it is falling apart. The silk lining has torn away and the coat bunches at the shoulders. I spent $3k on this jacket. I will never make that mistake again. I have 10 year old Brioni's that look almost as good as when I bought them. read more

The Brooks Brothers near my home provides excellent customer service, so I was expecting that. No one paid attention to me! I walked toward some racks near the front. I've had several shirts and jackets made and this guy working did not want to help me. He wanted to be some where else. He flipped through a few fabric books and told me to go downtown several times. These guys hate their jobs and it shows Calling the store to see if the shirt arrived was a nightmare. Nobody wanted to help. This Brooks Brothers is AWFUL and their manager, ABBEY CLAY, would not even give me the respect of addressing a 30 day; $400 shoe return return due to flawed merchandise. Brooks Brothers is known for over priced quality goods. You get what you pay for and expect the service they are known for! NOT in this location!! Three Salespeople (Garry, Dina and Hank) all agreed that the shoes I wanted to return were not Brooks Brothers quality and should be returned. ABBEY CLAY, would not even come speak to me and hid in her office to avoid customer contact. She only came out when her associate informed her that I was making a call to the National Customer Service to file a complaint about her!! She would not speak to me and would not take the defective merchandise back even with a dated Receipt. To boot, I even purchased another shirt and other items. DO NOT SHOP THERE. They place no value in customer service and could care less about their repeat clients. Good thing I went back to the downtown location where they took the defective shoes back immediately. My husband and I have spent a lot of time and a lot of money at Brooks Brothers stores over the years. His suits, dress shirts, ties, and dress pants all are from Brooks Brothers. We came in needing to buy pants and shirts for him. No one said hello. No one offered to help, despite the fact that we were obviously looking around for styles and sizes. There is a scene in the classic movie Pretty Woman where the character after a fabulous shopping spree re-enters the store she went into the day before where she was treated very poorly. Now after a makeover to the sales person she looks like she belongs. The sales girl who told her to get out doesn't recognize her and tries to assist her. She says oh you don't remember me do you, you wouldn't wait on me yesterday, do you work on commission? The flustered girl answers uh yeah to which Julia Robbert's character answers holding her multiple shopping bags up high big mistake, big huge mistake! Over the years I have bought things for my Dad as well as my husband multiple times from this location, my husband additionally shops at this store on a regular basis. So today I go here to get my Dad a nice pair of pants for his birthday, but see I don't see a reason to announce my finiacial situation so I look like pretty much every other stay at home Mom. I had bought a sweater for the holidays for my Dad at this store and had seen a nice pair of pants I wanted to get for my Dad's birthday this month. So my brother who assists me during the week because I am visually impaired, and I go in together. He prefers sweat pants and sweat shirts and like I said I don't dress like I have lots of money, I don't think I should have to. We didn't see the pants we were looking for so we very politely asked the sales girl about the pants we were looking for. We were sneered at and told that it wasn't winter anymore and they now only have their spring selection out and with out another world walked away from us. Just plain rude! Even if that was true how about pointing us in another direction? Maybe helping us find another pair of pants that we would have liked? Bought two pairs of dress paints as well ( FYI their tailor is a A-hole) And waited a month for them to be hemmed. That being said, I love their dress shirts and the quality of the clothing. But this store really makes It tough to not switch to Nordstrom. If like me you insist on Brooks Brothers for your work clothing, I would stay at the downtown stores. read more

Like most guys, he doesn't need a suit for the office anymore, so when a very special occasion demands a suit, he's out of touch and somewhat intimidated. Chuck's your guy! He's knowledgeable and puts you at easy when making such a major purchase. He's up-to-date on style and knows what looks good on you for the price you want to pay. He only works part-time, so you might want to call ahead (847-679-9090). (Wayne Sedlak, assistant manager, was helpful, also.) We happened to be there for a great sale after-Christmas sale, so we got a good deal on a top- notch American-made suit, and it's nicely tailored. read more

I went into this place looking for someone to help me figure out some pants and they treated me like a second class citizen. Took about 20 minutes before we were helped. Mind you, there was only one other customer in the store. The lady who did help was useless as she provided zero assistance.
