It's a beautiful warm and humid day in Chicago and the walk was good. The place is very quaint and small but well lit for shopping. It's a woman's boutique specializing in European clothing. The major designer is Solar and I have not heard of it, but designs are suited for a dressier woman. Thankfully that counts me in as I work in an office where jeans are not allowed and it's conservative so the weekends I can go casual. Back to the store the sizes are European and the lady at the counter (I am assuming is the owner) was very kind to tell me that 34 is usually x-small, 36 is small and 38 is medium. I'm usually a medium but some of her clothing allow for a 34 when I tried on a pair of white slacks. It had a great fit, but buying white is difficult because the material may be more revealing than you might like. Her clothes has many price points as she indicated and sales from the previous season is 20% off. Her summer selection drove me to walk in full of blight yellows, pink, and orange. The door was locked, but the sales associate let me in and said they were getting ready to close at 6pm (it was 5pm). I've been on the hunt for a dress for my daughter's bat- mitzvah so mostly looked at their dresses. While they had many gorgeous dresses they didn't really have anything that worked for this specific event- most were too conservative or just not my style. They did have an amazing prada dress that would be perfect, but a tad bit out of my price range. The lovely sales associate did her best to try to find something that was perfect, but no such luck. The shoes were pretty fabulous though so I have a feeling I"ll be back here once I make the final decision on a dress.

I decided to check it out. It's a very cute store, and the sales girl who greeted me and was lovely and very sweet. We chatted for a bit and she wasn't at all pushy, and she gave me good info about how the store is set up and some tips for online shopping. The denim prices are on par for what you would see at other shops for the same brands, and they were running a 10% off sale for Labor Day, which is nice. The tops and sweaters are a bit overpriced for what they are (honestly the quality doesn't seem that much different than much less expensive stores, or other women's clothing shops. Like, I couldn't tell the difference in fabric quality for their $70 graphic Janis Joplin t shirt and my $20 Target Janis Joplin shirt). They have some really cute workwear, though, and if I worked a job where I had to be business casual in an actual office where people would see more than just my shoulders in a Zoom window, I would be tempted to get a few blouses, blazers, or slacks here. But since I can wear yoga leggings, a knit tee and throw on an old blazer when I need to for a video call, I can't justify buying things I won't ever use. But it was fun to browse!

I highly recommend you do the same if you're looking to update your wardrobe seasonably because they seem to nail it each time. The lovely sales associate I spoke to when browsing the Winnetka Evereve told me that they are going to start styling the trendsend boxes from this location next month. I love their clothing for comfortable yet put together looks for lounging, working or chasing around my kids. I find it all very age appropriate for a women in her 40s like myself, although I did find myself eyeing a few pieces during my last visit that my 12 year old would go nuts for. The new Winnetka store is no exception and I spied a fabulous spanx sweatsuit (I lived in one of these last winter), comfortable yet trendy splendid shoes for fall and an impressive sale section that even had a ton of fall/winter wardrobe options. I'll continue to get my quarterly trendsends because it's fun receiving a box of clothes right to your house, but love that I have this option nearby since shopping in person is fun too!

But it was way up in Glencoe/etc. and I was not going to drive up there just for it... but when I found myself in Winnetka and drove by, of course I needed to stop. Unfortunately (or, perhaps for my wallet, luckily) they didn't have much that I was interested in. They do sell merchandise by the vendor I was looking for but not the particular items. The rest of the stuff was unremarkable; it was either clothing that wouldn't fit me or stuff that I could probably find elsewhere. It is a nice sized shop though, and right on a corner so it's easy to find. Right across the street is the parking lot for downtown Winnetka shopping and there's also diagonal parking on Chestnut, so it's an easy top if you're in town.

Once I picked out the one I wanted, Vivian in the Winnetka store tracked down seven of that same tie from their other locations and had them shipped to me within a week. Excellent service. While I can't say that I would frequent J. McLaughlin to shop for myself (because I'm not that preppy), I think it is an excellent place to pick up gifts for the moms and dads in your life, or anyone else you know who's into oxfords and sweater sets. I've decided to do a review in Plaza Del Lago because I recently went over there to see all of the…read morenewly renovated areas as well as the new tenants and stores that are here. I remember this place from my childhood from over 35 years ago and nothing has really changed. Meaning there is no additional parking there is no additional space. There is no additional signage in the parking lot to tell you that something is one way. So fantastic that all these stores are here and especially all these high-end stores, but there is no place to park and we all know damn well that all these North Shore women, although they all are within walking distance of these fantastic shops will not walk here and then carry their bags home. They would rather drive here. So not sure why there's an over abundance of tenants and again a lack of parking. Someone do something about the parking. And if you know anything about this area, you also know that if you go directly outside that you cannot park on the street you also cannot park on any of the residential roads as well. God forbid you put your random car in front of the multimillion dollar wilmette homes.

I have been going here since I was in highschool and go pretty much every time I am in town too. The Starbucks, Convitos, Jewel Osco and Cluckers were all open in the plaza as well. Not sure why it states it's permanently closed on here, clearly misinformation.
