The trails I did come across didn't seem very well maintained and I honestly felt uncomfortable being out there alone while halfway through a pregnancy, too many fallen branches, stumps, steep inclines and very, very narrow passageways. The pool itself looks a bit gross, dirty and uncovered with broken cement and dirt around from some sort of construction or renovation. They are building a playground at another far end of the park, so maybe it'll be in better shape one day.. but there's not much to it now.

The trail is only 0.5 miles total out and back. The trail is in need of major maintenance and repairs as it is easy to trip on the many cracks in the pavement and down trees. I also noticed a couple of watch out for snakes warning signs along the path. The playground looked well maintained but I didn't get too close to say for sure. The best part of this park I would say is the basketball court because of its large size. It is a full size court with bleachers and looks well maintained.

There are two boat…read morelaunch ramps, two public toilets, many picnic tables and benches, a few small pavilions, and a bunch of accessible fishing spots. If you want to catch a decent string of good-sized bass or crappie, a boat is a must. Otherwise, you can just chill on a lake bank and wait for catfish to grab your chicken liver offering, or try your hand at catching bream. Non-county residents are required to pay a $5 parking fee. They DO CHECK, so don't try to cheat, and end up paying a large fine. I have met many nice fisherfolks here. The most charming are a pair of Vietnamese women, who are there at least once a week, swaddled in sun-proof clothing and wearing wide brimmed straw hats. They are plenty savvy at catching fish. They use hotdogs for catfish and meal worms for bream. Each of them can cast a bait 100 feet or better. I've never seen them leave without a full cooler of fish. Me, on the other hand...............

There's probably as much parking lot area there, as there is park. There are wooden camping shelters there. Some people trailer horses to ride there. There are better parks in the area. On of my favorites is Panola Mountain state park. It's only about a 20minute drive away, and it's a lot bigger, and more interesting. There's a huge park area, and there are miles of natural trails in the woods there. It does cost 5.00 to park, but it's worth it. Alexander lake park is not far away. It's worth checking out, and so is Arabia mountain park, lots of hiking area there, including a huge granite formation like Stone Mountain, only not as high.

There are a few places along the trail that lead to dirt roads, if you want to go off the paved road. But otherwise, it's miles and miles of nature and beauty. This trail has all that rustic and deep forests feel to it. After a few miles it might even bring out your inner poet and have you start reciting Robert Frost, "two roads diverged in a yellow wood, And sorry I could not travel both..." In case you might like the forest too much and wish to become a hermit, there are good hills thrown into the trail for good measure. It's a nice balance of even road to let you enjoy the ride, then it changes with hills interval for a good cardiovascular workout. The view is lovely. There's a lake at panola state park, river along the way, farms and even a monastery. I saw people fishing at the lake. I spied wild life such as: Ducks Deer Rabbit There are signs for bike & kayak rental at Panola State Park.
