A hidden gem that doesn't get a lot of traffic. The park is located in a quiet neighborhood off of Juhan Rd. It's a nice size park with a multifunctional trail that goes around the park. There are individual trails off the main trail where you walk through mud, dirt, and thick brush, so keep that in mind. For the trails less traveled, look out for the spider webs! Some of the trails lead down to the river. There are playgrounds, a bathroom area (not sure if it was open), and a one big gazebo if you want to rent the space for an event. If you want to get a nice walk or run in without a lot of people, this park is perfect. read more

I'm gonna have to agree with Paul R. I've never seen a bad park in Georgia yet either. We all have our preferences and some parks have facilities that others don't, but I've gotta admit that Georgia has some of the best parks around collectively. I've only been to this park twice so far. Both times were last year. The first time I just drove up with my clients to kind of scope out and get familiar with the place. Then, before our second trip here, the horribly tragic and senseless murder of beautiful, young Tori Lang occurred and she was found here. It was right around the time of the Piedmont Park murder too. (My deepest condolences and prayers go out to all survivors of the victims for justice, even though nothing will replace their loved ones of course). There were a lot of questions and rumors out there about a possible serial killer (which have since been refuted). So at the time, I decided to wait it out before returning and stick to areas my clients and I were more familiar with...We recently made it back here last month and enjoyed our first real experience here. It was kind of a chilly day, right after the rain. I don't recommend it during the rainy days as it was pretty muddy out, but there are still paved areas you can walk along. It felt safe when we went as there were lots of other families and people walking their dogs there. There was even a ladies' workout group in session under the main pavilion near the entrance. My client who came with me that day enjoyed looking out at the river and listening to the beautiful, serene sounds of the water flowing. It's definitely a nice place to come get away for awhile if you're in the area. There's also one of those free little libraries out front if you want to find or exchange (mostly) kids' or any books. Having been here once now, officially, we probably would be back. read more

It's a beautiful and pleasant place to walk. I especially loved the fact that the nature is in tact and not over groomed.

I have never in my life seen a bad park in Georgia since I've been here. This place is very clean, serene, has all of the trails you want to walk and the works. No charge for parking, men and women restrooms, bbq grills, as well as different picnic areas. This is a great place for a family outing or even a date just to walk and talk with plenty of nature. I've seen a few bad reviews about this place but however these were last year and even before then. I didn't see what other people saw so I guess this park really was cleaned up. read more

It's a nice park, it does have a natural river where you're "not supposed to" swim but everyone does because it's nice refreshing water. There is an open area for activities like freesby or soccer. At last a nice and kept up playground. read more

Good park great trails for bikes horseback and walking if you enjoy the woods. Playground for kids. Lots of people take a swim in the river. The park gets packed during summer months with people who are not so kind to nature and park rules. read more

This is my fave park in GA thus far! Not far from Stone Mountain but so much better imo. Free parking (some shaded), free entry & plenty of amenities. There are playground, bbq grill & picnic areas. There are also public restrooms. The ladies restroom has 2 stalls (1 handicap accessible), 1 sink (motion sensor activated) and hand dryer. The park has a one mile paved walking/running/biking trail. The trail is partially shaded. There is also about 12 miles of wooded trails. The wooded trails are accessible for horses, cycling & hiking. Now the trails aren't labeled well, so if you're not an experienced hiker bring a GPS tracker device. But the trails do loop back around so you are destined to find your way out eventually. I love this park, it's never too crowded and I can get a great trail run in. I almost didn't want to write a review because I don't want it to become crowded lol. read more

Yellow River Park is a multi-use park operated by Gwinnett County, located a few miles southeast of Stone Mountain on the Yellow River, which is one of the feeder rivers into the Ocmulgee. The park supports horse riding, bicycling and a limited amount of hiking. There is a large pavilion for group activities near the main multi-use parking area, with rest rooms and a playground. The bicycling parking area also has restrooms and there is a group campground nearby with a smaller pavilion and a few fire rings. The equestrian parking area has limited facilities other than a parking area designed to accommodate horse trailers. I came here to check out the potential for hiking trails. Unfortunately, that is not what this park is about. The multi-use area has a paved loop path about a mile long which runs past a large open grassy field. Off that path, there is a short trail to an observation deck overlooking the river. There, if you go down a dirt trail on the side of the deck, you can get down to the river. It's not a maintained trail and it doesn't go far. There is also a longer dirt trail that parallels the paved path along the river, but it's still pretty short. On the other end on the paved loop there's a dirt path that runs that direction along the river. Again, not very long but you can get right on the river. The park has a ton of bike trails and I imagine you can use them for hiking if you are careful to watch for riders. I saw no bike riders on a quiet Monday morning. My impression of this park was fairly benign at first - it's a place where locals can come for casual walks, biking and maybe picnicking. Horse riding, too. But then I noticed that as I framed my photographs, particularly on the few dirt trails near the river, I had to work to keep unsightly trash out of view of the lens. I realized that there is a hell of a lot of trash in this park. And not just stuff carried to shore by the river - although there's enough of that, too - but garbage that uncaring visitors just seem to dump as they walk. Done with that Pepsi? No problem - just let it go and gravity will do its thing. Want to drink a few beers by the river? Great idea and no need to pack out the empties I guess. Skittles packet empty? Let the breeze take it away. I could go on and on. The photos I took of the river required quite a bit of framing to keep the trash (mostly) unseen. The pictures look nice but I was fairly disgusted by what I saw. Yellow River Park is the trashiest park I've visited in recent memory. You might not think that if you stick to the paved loop or the grassy areas. Those apparently are kept up and treated better (although not well enough). But step off onto a dirt path and you'll see how the people treat this park. In fairness, The garbage seemed a lot worse in the multi-use area than in the bike area. I walked a few trails there and didn't see an inordinate amount of trash. If I ever return, it will be with a trash bag. read more

I like to come to the park and walk around! It seems like a family oriented park. I'm always seeing families with their pets having a good time playing frisbee or someone just taking a jog. Great nature walk. read more

I love this park. Beautiful trail to hike daily. I often see a lot of photographers doing shoots here. The trail is straightforward and easy to follow. There is an extensive playground. And the restroom facilities are clean and warm. This is one of my favorite parks to frequent. read more

I visited this park yesterday. The parking lot seems small. There were people parked along the roadway. The trail I walked was approximately 1 mile. Not knowing the park... when entering the trail I went left. Walking straight I wound up in a rocky area where there were a GREAT DEAL of people in the river. Some in floats... some wading... kids splashing around. 98% of the people in the park were In This area. I turned back and followed the paved trail... which put me back on track. The 1 mile track is about 90% in direct sun. I attempted to follow another unpaved track... it was isolated and muddy. I turned back to just walk the 1 mile trail. The trail is flat. I typically walk 3-4 miles... w/o the sun it would be easy to just walk until you drop! The park is BEAUTIFUL!!! Surprisingly I did not see any wildlife! I saw someone in a canoe and someone else in a float paddling. This was in the opposite direction from the noisy 98%. It was so incredibly peaceful at this end! I will return to walk before 10:00 AM or after 6:00 PM. read more

The trails are confusing. There are no names or color coding. Just random trails. Sadly, a lot of trash! We were here for the first time Sunday 9/23. Some sort of group has some kind of ritual thing or ceremony going on. Tent left food ( intentionally) in the water. Whole pineapples. Whole pumpkins. This is waste! Rotting food in the water. They also left food by trees etc. various locations had bottles, cans, wrappers, etc. sad. It could be a great park! The signs need vast improvement for trail usage. read more

Great for biking, as those trails are throughly marked. If you're a more experienced hiker, skip this area. Trails for walking are not clearly marked and if you head into the woods you'll likely end up very confused. Easiest paths are paved, with it leading to a small area near the river that was covered in trash. Nice playground area though! read more
