Be careful coming here, it becomes an addiction. Once you see the beauty in your yard and what you can create, you'll want to come back for more. I love plants but have never constructed my own masterpiece, I'd rather buy what someone has put together or simply hire a landscaper. After several visits to Brookside, this city girl that has only known concrete officially has a green thumb. The staff at Brookside are extremely helpful. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted by Leroy and he was able direct me to the most beautiful plants the store had to offer. He was very knowledgeable about gardening and the life spans of all of the flowers and plants. He encouraged me to make lovely pots at home. What a clever salesman. The prices were reasonable which also encouraged me to buy more. The cashier and office staff were also very cordial. This seems to be a well ran family business (I don't know, just guessing). I come here often for two reasons: customer service and fair prices. A great local business that proved to me a rose can grown from concrete. read more

The Brookside Garden Center & Florist shop is my go to flower and plant shop! Unfortunately the parking isn't the best since it's on the corner of a busy intersection but it's right around the corner from my house so I usually walk there anyway. They're affordable, have plants and products that I've been looking for, and even have ones that I've never seen before. I stopped in on Valentine's Day and left with two gorgeous, unique bouquets around $20 each and a healthy succulent with a pot for $11. (Got one bouquet for my boss and one for my mother, both loved them!) The staff was great and the selection was huge considering it was the day of! I picked up a few pre made bouquets from here before that were about $10 and were also great quality for the price. Today I stopped in on my way home just to see what they had, I was greeted kindly by a man who was out on the floor. I was drawn straight to the gorgeous succulents on the middle table, ended up picking up two potted succulents, and grabbed two small plants by the register right before I checked out. The woman who rung me up was very nice and they packaged up my plants very carefully and securely so nothing fell over or broke while I walked home with them. It was such a steal to get all 4 of these plants for only $36, I'll most definitely be coming back next week to check the selection and recommend this shop for anyone in the Bloomfield/Montclair/Glen Ridge area looking for some affordable, unique plants and flowers! Edit: I'm adding to this review because of another amazing experience I had here. I ordered a flower bouquet from a different florist and paid $45 for what looked like an empty, $20 bouquet and had it delivered a day late. I came here to the brookside garden center to ask for help on how to fill up the bouquet and make it look better. Nicky helped me choose some tulips and baby's breaths for only $10, I was able to fill in the flower arrangement myself, and now it looks great thanks to this place! read more

My daughter passed away and I needed a local flower shop to put together something beautiful yet delicate. I called and although a specific flower wasn't available based on the arrangement I was seeing online they were able to put something together just as beautiful. I was totally going to give it a five star because they had so many awesome plants and stuff like that I got a parking space right in front that was kind of illegal and I axed for lavender I'm not sure Levander right now is in season but they looked pretty crappy But I ended up finding this really beautiful purple yellow and cabbage the walking hanging Sconce for about $35 To hang up outside on the hook I absolutely loved it and there was a nice young man that put some plastic down in the back of my car but since it kept rolling around by the time I got out of my car it was dirt soil everywhere I could hear it rolling around and I took it and placed it between the front seat in the back seat Beautiful plant and a very nice nursery employees are very nice but I have to admit I took off the start because I wish that I would've placed it in my car with some common sense read more

I stopped in here on a whim when looking for roses to place on a family member's grave. I was immediately greeted with a smile by the young girl behind the counter. She was exceedingly welcoming and went above and beyond when putting together my roses with a ribbon and that little "water thing" they put on the stem of each rose. I had never seen that "water thing" before but this florist seemingly uses it at no extra charge to the customer. The person who assisted me name was Janet. There was another young lady there that seem more mannerly. Janet had very poor customer service skills. Went there because that was the only florist that was open around town and my favorite florist in Bloomfield is no longer in business (Roxy). It was the end of the day hence, I am hoping that the bad attitude and lack of interpersonal communication skills can attribute to her being tired. Lots of room for improvement here! Great plants and flowers for a great price! Flower bouquets on the weekends are only $10 but there's always a great, healthy, and colorful selection. I find some very unique flowers for my front garden here and good prices, and often some hidden gems like a $4 African Violet that lasts! The staff seems nice and knows how to help when you need it, they have convenient hours too and it's local! Definitely check this place out if you haven't already. read more

I bought a propane gas tank for my grill about three weeks ago. I use maybe 1 tank for a year and a half. We don't use the grill as much as I once did. Well, I used the grill twice for a total of maybe 20 minutes each time. I went to use the grill two nights ago and the tank was empty. I always turn off the grill and close the tank after each use. So I was surprised to see it empty. The valve itself seemed a tad loose, but what do I know. So, this morning I returned the tank and explained the issue with the tank. The girl at the counter, called another person over to talk to me. She told me the tank was empty and I had to tell her the story again. She again said it's empty and she can't get credit from the gas company for a defective tank? I said what about me? she said, I can't get credit from the company...I turned and said screw you and left. My wife and I do buy other stuff there because it is convenient. That won't happen anymore. They act like they are doing you a favor waiting on you and that every sale is an inconvenience. When there is an issue, it is never their fault. read more

I have been picking up flowers, plants and custom-made crosses from Brookside since I was a teenager. They never fail to satisfy any of my expectations. They are warm and really listen to what you need/want. While I believe management has changed over the years (not sure), the business remains first class. read more
