I did find what I was looking for, and a few things I wasn't, and ultimately, yes, they're a bit pricier on some things than your big-box chain stores, but honestly, I'd rather that. After several visits to Brookside, this city girl that has only known concrete officially has a green thumb. The staff at Brookside are extremely helpful. He was very knowledgeable about gardening and the life spans of all of the flowers and plants. He encouraged me to make lovely pots at home. What a clever salesman. The prices were reasonable which also encouraged me to buy more. The cashier and office staff were also very cordial. This seems to be a well ran family business (I don't know, just guessing). They did not respond at all that day, and I called the next day to try to schedule delivery. It turns out, they don't have that soil in stock. Instead of helping me by changing the order, the man who answered the phone was rude, told me to cancel it on my credit card and that they hadn't processed the charge. This means they saw it come through, knew they didn't have the soil, and didn't bother to call or email me. The whole time he acted like I was inconveniencing HIM, when in actuality I was trying to give them hundreds of dollars, like I used to do every year. Then he had the nerve to hang up on me, as if I'd done something wrong by ordering soil and following up the next day. I was friendly the whole time. He was acting like a petulant child. I can't dispute the transaction on my credit card since it hasn't processed, so it's just sitting in financial limbo and I have to trust that they won't process it later and try to sneak it by me. I'll need to spend the next few weeks following up on this now. I'll also be finding a new compost supplier. I'm planning on replacing my entire front lawn with garden beds this summer and will need plenty of soil and mulch. Oh well.

I came here on a whim, I've been looking for deer resistant shrubs for a while, and Japanese Pencil Holly in particular. I came by myself, pretty pregnant and somewhat indecisive these days. I came during what seemed like peak hours (3p-4p) the staff was super helpful and I got exactly what I was searching for. Not everything was labeled with the price, they seem to get new inventory everyday so it's understandable. The staff is friendly enough to look up whatever is needed (price, plant-care info) but I didn't want to be a nuisance, so I'll probably comeback when it's less busy. I didn't read the bad review until I got home so full disclosure, I'm a person of color, a woman and a mom. I didn't feel any unwelcome undertones and I saw the staff interact with a plethora of diverse customers with respect and equality. This Home Depot is the closest to me so it's convenient when I need hardware or gardening supplies…read more The garden department is probably what I use most and they have a wide variety of plants, fertilizer, soil, etc. The prices are lower than what you would pay at a garden shop so it's a good value. You can also rent tools at this location which I have done in the past. It's convenient and saves money. The tools were in good shape and I was satisfied with the rentals. This location has a huge parking lot and can get very crowded on weekends. Sometimes finding store employees can be a challenge which seems to be the usual at all Home Depot's. Checking out can be a hassle at times as well. Sometimes it seems like there isn't enough cashiers and the lines can back up. Overall this is a good location.

No one called. I happened to go on my computer at 6:30 p.m. the night before and saw that I had been scheduled for delivery between 1:30 and 5:30. On the delivery date I signed onto my computer at 10:00 a.m. and read a message saying that the delivery truck was 2 stops away. There was no direct communication regarding the delivery time and the written communication had totally conflicting information. THIS IS NO WAY TO RUN A BUSINESS.

That being said, I wanted to combine two separate plants into one pot on my window sill and needed the soil and a rectangular planter. Note - The only rectangular planters I saw were plastic, the soil was pricy compared to Home Depot, and an additional Hobbit Jade Plant was pricier there than what I've seen elsewhere. That being said, there may be other items competitive in price or not available elsewhere... plus (at least for me) it's convenient. Plus, it sells items like soil in smaller quantities, which may be convenient for people with small apartments. Recommend coming and checking Urban Garden Center out, including its chickens both in the hen house and roaming around free range!

Also, the plants that cost me a couple of thousand dollars had many broken branches because the workers rushed to install them. They also want payment up front before any delivery/installation/scheduling. It was a horrible and stressful experience. Informing the owner of my experience resulted only in his making excuses for USG's bad actions with no apology whatsoever. ***And because I posted my review, the owner Dimitri vindictively told me that he would no longer stand behind the plants or the work done to make things right. He didn't like my honest review. Prior to my review, he was willing to make right his failures, if needed. It is disappointing that UGC is unable to acknowledge its mistakes or shortcomings, and that they do not know how to interact with customers.
