I have been a resident of Brookside Retirement Residence for almost three years months. W must say I am very glad to part of this facility. It is my home and I love it here for many reasons First I would say the staff here are very helpful and friendly. They go out of their way to see to our every need. The residence is very clean. It is spacious with a library, game room and a laundry facility to wash your clothes. Once a week my room is cleaned and new linens and towels supplied The maintenance men are very attentive and immediately fix any problems The food here is excellent and the menu is varied. Everything is delicious and healthy. I am diabetic and the kitchen staff bends over backwards to help me with my diet providing sugar free alternatives. You can get as much food as you want and even take leftovers to your room There are many activities, a well equipped exercise room, a library with a wide variety of novels and reference books to borrow My entire family can visit me here. They can attend special events and dinners. I would highly recommend Brookside if you are looking for yourself or a loved one. read more

Our 82 year old Mother Barbara has been living here for a little under 2 years now and LOVES everything about IT!! Unfortunately she fell recently and is recovering in the hospital but she mentions missing her pals and home almost daily. The staff goes all out to make their residents have a good time. Theres always something going on at Brookside. I was just there visiting (I am from Hawaii) this past Thanksgiving and there was a talented musician playing in the dining area. My Mom acted like she would rather be in there with her friends and neighbors than coming with me to our family gathering! hahaha. Below is my mom, sister and BIL at their recent Hawaiian Luau night. FUN. Is it contemporary modern with posh upscale finishings? No it is not. Does mom care? She could give a rip. Do we care? NOT ONE BIT. The price is right and the community there is EVERYTHING!! Thank you Brookside staff for all you do! And big mahalo for hanging some of my moms large art pieces in your common areas! Makes her really feel at HOME. read more

After 6 years of residence here- - , I am so grateful my relative chose to leave. At the age of 92 that was t an easy choice. But she didn't want to die there! There is mixed data on whether this is Independent care or Assisted Living. It is Independent. The staff has a high ratio of turnover. Most seem afraid of the manager. That is an unfortunate situation for the people that call this place home. The front doors are impossible for old people to open solo- or enter or leave easily. They have no motion sensor or electrical door opener. So you have elderly, often disabled people trying to get in and out of the doors with a lot of struggle. That shouldn't even be legal. But it is at the least very inconsiderate. I've watched many in walkers and wheelchairs struggle to get inside. The smell inside is hideous So that is where a nursing home comes to mind. If this is independent care, it shouldn't smell like this. They can only "clean" the carpet so many times. . This is a sad place. I understand it is possibly a "best option in Ukiah", but that is another conversation for another day. The heat during the winter would be "turned" off all weekend. My relative would frequently complain it was only 65 inside her unit and then she would be chastised for using personal heaters to stay warm. Repairs (big ones) were slow and I can only surmise money issues. The meals are unhealthy, cheap, and mimic an old school menu from years ago. There are people with diagnoses SMI sitting at the "assigned tables" with other elderly but healthy and social people. This affects the healthy and social health for those who are doing their best to try to stay positive in a very sad environment. read more

My sister has been at BROOKSIDE for 7months. She participates in many of the activities, corn hole, bingo, Yahtzee to name a few. The staff is very friendly both to the residences and visitors. Love having an on-site hair salon! The food is perfect for her, she doesn't need to cook! Have lived at Brookside since 4 Oct 2019. Very professional management! Staff is professional, caring, compassionate and always helpful! It's professionally maintained, cleaned and serviced. The food is prepared by a professional staff and presented with care to detail. Just had Christmas dinner and it was excellent! All in all a very pleasant atmosphere with socializing and entertainment. A very, very happy place to live at an unbeatable and reasonable price!
