It was a very casual co-op feeling and look to it. Our waiter was great and attentive and served us quickly. I ordered the lamb belly flatbread and it was good! Came here on a Monday afternoon, around 2pm. It was bustling, but tables were turning over quickly and two of us were seated right away. Both the host and servers were very polite. Food: delish They change they lunch quite regularly, so they may have stopped these, but: Chorizo omelette for breakfast , unofficially titled the nomlette. Roast beef sandwich for lunch, tasty. Atmosphere: Friendly The staff are all really friendly. And the owners are also great. The clientele started off as a bunch of scenesters (aptly) , but now it's a real mix of people doing working lunches, students etc. And they're going to start doing brunch and evenings soon. Incredible!!!! Have been here loads since they opened, it's my bunch staple in Dublin! It's ideal for a quick coffee and one of their amazing scones, or a longer leisurely brunch catch up with friends. They have loads of veggie options which are diverse, nutritious and delicious. Went here for the first time last night as part of the Yap on Yelp event. Inside very nice environment simple but elegant furnishings with a bit of character. The menu is middle eastern, one of my favorite food types so was looking forward to it. Its a little bit different to your normal menu. Starters and Deserts are platters of food shared between the table. So the only decisions you have to make are 2 or 3 courses and what your main course will be. I like it when a restaurant has a limited menu, its a sign that they have taken time to produce a good selection of food and will be cooking it fresh. Obviously if you are a fussy eater this may not be the place for you. For starters we had soup, hummous, bread and bits and for desert it was chocolate ice cream, baklava and spiced fruit. All very nice. For me the platters were the stand out part of the meal. Which to be honest is generally my experience with Middle Eastern food anyway. For main course I had a lamb chop dish, plenty of meat to go around. I didn't think the lamb was particularly spiced in any way but it was pleasant enough. For sides their was some cous cous and vegetables which were very nice. Other people at the table had the Beef Kofta which was delicious ( I was pretty jealous of that dish ) and someone also had Hake which looked good. After 3 courses we were all pretty well fed, but you definitely need the two courses to fill you up. With our food we had a bottle of Rose which was pretty nice and suited the food well. The staff were very nice, only minor gripes took us a while to get asked if we wanted a drink. But once we had started being served very efficient indeed. read more

Called in here today with a friend who works nearby. I felt like getting a nice healthy lunch that would leave me feeling smug about my food choices and it didn't disappoint! Bonus was finding a friend from home working there, yay! In work we have an ever-growing list of restaurants to go to. I have slowly been making my way through this list. And next up was Brother Hubbard. On Capel Street, I didn't know what to expect. I am a fan of reviewing a menu of a restaurant before I go and pay it a visit, but sometimes when I'm really excited about going, I hold onto the anticipation until the waiter hands over the menu - as if in slow motion. I was not disappointed. My craving for scrambled eggs was met and then some. I went for the Moroccan Style eggs - chorizo, aubergine and chickpeas in a spicy but sweet tomato sauce, with a side of scrambled eggs. My friend went for the pulled pork sandwich - hailed as the best sandwich in all of Dublin. The conversation flowed as I devoured the scrumptious dish. My only complaint is that I wish I had more! Orla enjoyed the sandwich, however asking for no mayo or mustard I'd say it was lacking in sauce. Delighted to hear that they are closing their doors for a renovation period - this place needs to expand in order to allow more people to try their delicious goods. This place has become one of my go to spots for a nice weekend breakfast or brunch. They do delicious coffee and a lovely Mediterranean style breakfast plate with olives, hummus, a boiled egg, sourdough toast and other assorted good for you goodies. They really like to push their pulled pork; there are signs all over the place telling you about how it won an award but I can't really say I was that impressed. I love pulled pork but their stuff is fairly average. If you want good pulled pork go to a BBQ place like the Bison Bar. This place does other things way way better and they should be plugging those things instead. They do some really nice coffee and pastries. Where they really shine though is their hot chocolate. It is probably one of the best I've ever had. They serve you a big cup of foamed chocolate milk with a small jug full of melted chocolate ganache. They get a little bit crowded on the weekend; they have become popular for brunch. They have a second premises next door; Brother Hubbard's Little Brother. The Little Brother is perfect for dropping in to pick up a quick coffee, even during their busiest times. read more

This was my first visit to Brother Hubbard's. I came on the recommendation of a friend. They offer gluten free options as well as vegetarian and vegan as well as normal food. My visit was to try some Mediterranean food. There is a lot of seating, the food was fast, and the place is clean. I came looking for a Mediterranean meal, and found something that was much more of a fusion of foods. There were a lot of flavours which were great, but unfortunately there foods on my plate they I could just not eat. I ordered it gluten free with no bread, but still got bread to make the place look more full. For a person looking for a modern style restaurant catering to everyone including vegans, vegetarians, and people with food allergies, it's probably a good fit. This is one of my favorite breakfast/brunch spots in Dublin. I imagine it might get quite crowded on the weekends, but on a weekday morning it is really easy to get a table. All of the staff is incredibly friendly and helpful with recommendations. Their tea is from Wall & Keogh and my personal favorite is the peppermint blend (INSTANTLY cleared up my sore throat). Their winter bircher bowl is my dream breakfast item. It's rolled oats, dried fruit, tons of spices, pom seeds, mint, and a few other things that make this taste so delicious. This place is the business! Located on the buzzing Capel Street, Brother Hubbard is well placed among all the other great restaurants this street has to offer. The menu is varied without being over-extensive and they have a great selection of sweet treats which are on display the minute you walk through the door. In fact, I usually know what I'm having for dessert before I even look at the food menu (I'd highly recommend the peanut butter s'more btw). These guys do some of the best eggs in Dublin but also have some really great sandwiches and salads. The only criticism I have is that the portion sizes are on the small side. I've been here quite a few times and this is across the board, not great when you may have waited a while for your table and are paying a decent price for what you get. Amazing food - so fresh I think you can see from my photos the colours really jump out and the food tasted every bit as good as it looks. We had a mezze plate to share as a starter which was fantastic - really big and enough of everything that nobody had to compromise. I would definitely get this again. For main course I had the beef kofta which I am already craving. Very moist and succulent - served with couscous and greens. For desert as with the started we got a selection of deserts which was perfect for me as I like to try lots of little bits. The icecream was amazingly chocolatey and I loved the Turkish delight. Overall the meal was very good value including the wine. Although I was very full and really committed gluttony I left feeling light as a feather - this I'm sure was down to the excellent fresh ingredients. Wow so did not expect to like the place as much as I did! Two of us went on a Sunday morning probably around 11 for brunch and encountered one of the waiters talking to another couple just outside the door. They asked how long the wait would be - 5 minutes apparently - and left!! We couldn't believe it but it worked out well. The (somewhat confused) staffer and us laughed about it and sure enough we were in by about 5-10 minutes later after a delightful wait in the little takeout/bakery extension thing next door. The décor is interesting - manages to be minimalist (necessary as the place is pretty small!), retro, and hipster all at once. I liked it a lot which surprised me as I'm not generally a "hipster vibe" fan. Knowing that they pride themselves on their coffee, we got one cappuccino and I tried their Warming Winter Tonic drink (not the exact name but close enough) - cappuccino was just regular but the funky winter drink was delightful and really interesting, would definitely order again! The eggs menemen was fabulous, and the bread underneath was fresh and flavorful. Similar for the Breakfast of Champignons which had probably the best-poached eggs I can remember seeing - the mushrooms in particular were VERY good. All in all was an exquisite meal - we were too full to order one of the baked goods which all looked delish, unfortunately! - but I am ready to come back again and maybe give the filter coffee and the semolina pancakes a shot! I'd never managed to get to Brother Hubbard before, as during the week they would be shut by the time we got to Capel Street post work. But then they started doing an evening dinner menu and it was all middle eastern fare. Interesting. While waiting for the rest of our group, we started on a bottle of rosé. Delicious and good value at 26 EUR. I really recommend it if you like rosé, Avaniel Tempranillo. First was the platter of starters. And can I just say how beautiful the serving platter was. Very authentic. The starting food was quite nice. For a main I went for the beef kofta and oh my gosh, what deliciousness I was served. It was a tough call what to order as a main because everything on the menu looked great. I'm glad I ordered that. But I am looking forward to trying out the other dishes sometime. The dessert platter deserves a special mention. Delicious chocolate ice cream, tasty Turkish delight and yummy baklava. I was always curious about baklava, but never ventured to try it. So I took a deep breath and dived in. It was so so good. One person at the table declared it was the nicest baklava she's had. Wow. Brother Hubbard is cool and hip. Ordered a coconut lemongrass chicken hot pot which has just incredible flavors. This is not very curry like where it is soupy but instead is pretty dense of a dish that has generous portions of juicy and tender pulled chicken in a curry like sauce (not much lemongrass flavoring though which was to be honest a little disappointing) on top of what seems like a bed of multigrains. If I were to describe this, I would say it's a lemongrass hinted pulled chicken stew one that was very filling, satisfying, and doesn't leave the residue of flavors that will have you begging for water as some curry places may leave you with. The toppings on top were a delicious slaw of onions, carrots and red and green peppers -- a fantastic pairing to add a crunch to the hot pot. Also came with hummus and sourdough and my goodness, some of the most fresh and well seasoned hummus I have ever tasted. During my stay in Dublin, my best friend and I stopped by Brother Hubbard three days in a row. We tried 60% to 70% of the menu and everything was impeccable. Brother Hubbard is inspired by Mediterranean flavors. There's also Little Brother right next door which serves the same menu. We didn't get the chance to go to Sister Sadie. ----------------------------- -- Light Breakfast -- Bircher Bowl: My best friend's favorite item on the menu. But who can reject a nice serving of overnight oats? Unfortunately, she was only able to eat two Bircher bowls over two days because on the last day we had to catch a flight and bircher bowls can't be taken to go. [Highly Recommend] Porridge: Classic and simple. The jams and brown sugar gave it that extra oomph. If you're looking for something light, order either the bircher bowl or the porridge. -- Full Brunch -- Greek-style omelette: This omelette felt like an egg sandwich because they provide sourdough bread. I also added smoked salmon to this. It made the whole dish more salty (especially with the feta cheese and black olives) than I would have liked. Nevertheless, still a wonderful wonderful omelette. After this hearty breakfast, you'll definitely be ready for the day. Turkish eggs: Scrambled eggs with tomatoes and peppers. After eating the Greek-style omelette, the Turkish eggs tasted more mild. I personally prefer the Turkish eggs more because there was less feta and more tomatoes. Moroccan Special: Hands down, the best poached eggs I've had. The topping was a smoky mix of eggplant, tomatoes, and chickpea. I loved the spices! [Highly Recommend] Pulled Pork Sandwich: We had to order the pulled pork sandwich because it was apparently the best sandwich in Dublin. Like others, I didn't find the sandwich THAT great. I'm not usually a fan of Middle Eastern cuisine but BH might have just changed my mind. A group of us availed of the set menu, where we shared a starter mezze platter which was the star of the show - a feast for both the eyes and palate! We then got to choose our own mains (lamb shoulder and beef kofta were the tastiest) with sharing bowls of cous cous (quinoa GF option) and chargrilled Mediterranean veggies. I came here again with a friend for lunch and another time with my mom, and from my last experience regarding the not so great service, this time the staff were really friendly and the service was excellent. I'll just put that as a one of experience, as the staff are generally very attentive. My friend loved the pulled pork sandwich, the portions are quite generous and the place is always brimming with customers since it's a really popular cafe, but it's not hard to get a seat, and even if you have to wait it's never too long. The breakfast and brunch menus are the best by the way, especially the Moroccan egg dish! read more
