So I found something that made me reevaluate my opinion of Bro Hubbard. If I just avoid the crowds and lunchtime, and go during the morning, then I can fully enjoy the best they have to offer - breakfast. What I wrote on my last review still stands, though the business owner was kind enough to inform that their salt was perfectly soluble even though I thought it was simple coarse salt. But lets get to what really matters, what made me start going back? Basically, what drew me back was Little Brother next door. And after that I started appreciating more their pastries - the buns are to die for - and coffee, though I stayed clear from the espresso since my first experiences here. At this smaller location you can either sit there, upstairs or by the window, or have everything to go. Alternatively, also during the morning, the main space, Brother Hubbard proper, is a very enjoyable spot with a good brekkie menu. During this time of the day, the little patio to the back isn't too crowded and is the perfect setting to enjoy a filter coffee, without having to sit awkwardly at one of the small tables inside. Every time I'm visiting in Dublin we go for a lunch at Brother Hubbard. It may have been 5 times now and it is always such a nice experience. At first when you look at the menu you may feel a little bit perplex because all the dishes seem complicated with a lot of spices but - trust me - everything is good. So far I've tried the pork and beans / the breakfast of champignons with extra salmon and three times the pulled pork sandwich with extra egg. The pulled pork sandwich (which you can see on the pictures) is one of the most famous in Dublin - you really have to try it ! You can also order sides like salad with seeds, baked mushrooms or aleppino potatoes (I really recommend these lasts). Orange juice is also very good and freshly squeezed and hot chocolate is delicious. You can also go for desserts and threats but I never had enough space to try one ! Staff is welcoming, smiling and reactive, even if when it is really crowded. The deco is very nice, very green - with a lot of plants and vegetation. So it was a Sunday afternoon, I had slept in, and a few of us girls decided, you know what? It's raining, Let's brunch! So, myself and a few girlfriends decided to stop into this place because we'd heard it was good, but had never been there. When we arrived at about 1pm, it was PACKED! But to be honest, we really weren't waiting that long. I've never seen a restaurant so efficiently manage a waitlist and seat people! Alas, after about 15 minutes we were sat a seat near the door. Now, I'll admit sitting there made all of us think we were having hot flashes between the two heat lamps, and then the freezing cold air everytime the door was opened. But really, there's nothing you can do about that. All of us three are fairly big foodies, and all wanted to try everything, so we all three ordered the semolina pancakes, the pulled pork sandwich, and zaalouk with chorizo and then we shared all three plates *The pulled pork - was very tasty and tender. Obviously not like the pulled pork I'm used to with BBQ places, but was still very tasty, especially with the fried egg on top! And the serving is massive! *Zaalouk - really tasty. I was a bit worried about it being rich with the middle-eastern spices on it, but it really was all balanced quite nicely. It was especially tasty with the two poached eggs on top. *Semolina Pancakes - these were really fresh and tasty as well. For my own personal taste, they were a bit sweet. But I don't eat a whole lot of sugar from the get go. I'm glad we split this because I could not have eaten this entire plate on my own. Even though we split 3 plates between 3 people, I was STUFFED. The coffee was also great - gotta love that 3FE coffee. And the mimosas were quite nice as well. :) This place is definitely going on my list of favoruite brunch places! read more

OMG, this was the best, freshest food at the best prices that we had in 4 days in Dublin, IR. Everything was so fresh. The cappuccino's here are so good that my eldest had to order two. We also ordered a tonic, which was a hot concoction that my wife and shared, just so delicious. The food is Mediterranean infused and very healthy with solid portions and affordable prices. I had the bean and pulled pork brunch plate with a fried egg. At 10 Euro, an awesome meal, I added the avocado to it, for some more freshness I wanted to lick the plate. Service and ambiance here are fun, hip and warm. Just a fantastic restaurant and kitchen, with so much going for it. Oh Dear. What happens when one of your favorite neighborhood restaurants expands next door and becomes barely average. You write a review in the hope they regain their former excellence. We have brought friends from abroad to Brother Hubbard on several occasions (in addition to our own visits) and they have all raved about the mix of food, ambiance, friendliness and buzz. So when we went with London friends last Saturday we were saddened to see we were directed to a new premises next door (but still connected to) to the old site. Its HUGE and Full of canteen like tables in a canteen like hall with minimal decoration. So far so different to the old experience. The fact that it was only 2/3 full on a Saturday night did bot help the buzz but the way the sounds clattered off the bare walls was plain uncomfortable. The old premises is still in use but this night they had decided to put a large group in there - lucky them! But the food would be the same, wouldn't it? Actually no. Perhaps it was the greater demand on the kitchen, or a new kitchen or different people, but the food did not have the same hearty home cooked quality I loved. It seemed more 'prepared' than I remember and while I would not say the food was poor, it lacked any sense of pride or occasion I was expecting. The hummus was as lovely as ever but the sweet potatoes and chopped vegetables looked puny and uninspiring. The Pide breads were tasty but skimped on the lamp belly toppings. All in all it seems as if an accountant is ruling over portion control. The service was friendly but unexceptionable. They too seemed to lack the energy of before. So please Brother Hubbard. Make that hall more conducive to relaxed eating. Sack that accountant. Put groups in the bigger place and free up that old premises. Get back what made the place a delight - the food, the decoration and the cosy buzz. read more

Oh my, this is officially the best place for brunch in Dublin, hands down. It makes sense why they have a completely separate building for waiting on table, as the queue would be around the block for this place. I cannot believe it took me so long to eat here. Brother Hubbard was completely full when we arrived so this is technically a review for their next door shop, Little Brother. At first I wasn't sure we were even able to sit down as the ground floor doesn't have any seating, just the food and the counter. I knew it was a take away place anyway so we weren't bothered by the fact we may not get to sit down. Surprisingly one of the staff said we could choose to sit upstairs and order in so we did that. There were plenty of tables upstairs, most of them with two chairs only. We each ordered a juice and a little baked good. I wish I could remember the names specifically but the drinks were kind of...meh. Okay but not great. I greatly preferred the one my boyfriend ordered which had rose in it than my own. Should have had the coffee instead. The pastries we had on the other hand were great! I really enjoyed my almond orange cake with chocolate ganache, which I thought would be a whole slice but ended up being more like a cupcake. It was dense and sweet with a definite note of orange. Truly the best sandwich in dublin! I have been eagerly awaiting the chance to visit brother Hubbard and finally got my chance a few short days ago! Needless to say I was not disappointed! A fan of pulled pork I got the 'best sandwich in dublin' which consisted of a heap of beautifully slow cooked pulled pork on some fresh soda bread that was crispy and delicious and came with a side salad and I chose the roast potato salad which was truly amazing. Got an orange fizz to wash down the meal and couldn't have been happier and it all came to around 12.50! My girlfriend ordered the flatbread and lentil soup and upon tasting some of hers I found it to be just as good as my order! Great atmosphere and staff made the visit all the more enjoyable. So I finally made time to try the much hyped Brother Hubbard, again it's been in the back of my mind to make it here for quite a while. I'll be honest the first impression was less than stellar, the whole seating thing for a cafe is a little faffy, made more so with the take away bit next door which also has seating, it was all just a shade chaotic but we really fancied the treats on offer so we stuck with it! And I'm glad we did :) the orange cake was devine, as to was my friends brownie. Plus I was actually served a 3fe coffee that was delicious (my past experiences of 3fe have been very underwhelming!) I guess in the end it's fair to say this is a keeper. What amused me most was the two lads at the back enjoying their scones etc. they looked like they were straight off a building site :) The tables are v v close together so don't try have a private conversation. I went to breakfast twice while in Dublin. Tea was really good. I had an egg sandwich (no bacon), and it was divine. The mamman egg was great, innovative, but the egg sandwich was better. Pastries are a wide array of yum. Mom said the fruit scone was good, and I liked that they infused their water with mint and lemon. They have a beautiful back patio area with live plants. The restaurant is immaculate. Ambiance and style was fun and creative. I do have a quirky complaint... the place is small, even with the offset room. No place to put your purse while eating because the stools have no backs and the coat racks are usually quite full. Overall highly recommended breakfast stop. On my second trip to Dublin, I made every effort to ensure I included Brother HJubbard into my itinerary as I knew I would regret not eating here again. I started off with a flat white - something you can't go wrong. For my meal, I ordered the halloumi zhoug & egg sandwich. Absolutely delicious. The grilled halloumi and perfectly runny egg was definitely the highlight of the dish but the vegetables are still worthy of mentioning. My boyfriend has a bit of a sweet tooth, even in the mornings, so he went with the hazelnut chocolate & banana pancakes. Honestly, when we read the name of the dish, it sounded like it would be a simple pancake with hazaelnut chocolate drizzle and bananas sliced up across, but it was even better than we imagined! The pancakes were fairly thin, more like crepes, dressed with date infused mascarpone, topped with caramelized banana, drizzled with a light hazelnut and caramel mixture and lastly, sprinkled with rose petals. It was like eating pancakes that never stopped giving! Every bit was a different mix of flavours. In a mad rush with rain invading every pore of my soul, I didn't have time to have anything more than a cup of one of their selections of fine teas and a scone. The teas are not your prepackaged nonsense that is prevalent everywhere but loose teas of stupendous variety. The teas, as fine as they are, are not what excited me but the scones with accents of ginger made me stop and reflect for redheads everywhere. One of the better lunch spots in Dublin. It has a hipster cafe vibe, similar to places like The Fumbally and Urbanity. It can get quite crowded at lunch so try to arrive before 12:30. They have somewhat of a Mediterranean influence to their food, for both the breakfast and lunch items. They also serve their breakfast/egg dishes at lunch which is always a big plus for me. One visit I got an egg and avocado dish served on sourdough bread, but it was more than just that. They put extra veggies on it and also some kind of creamy sauce. It was a nice, unique combination. I came here for the first time only yesterday and left wondering why I waited so long. The food was delicious, atmosphere relaxed and waiters extremely attentive. I ordered the moroccan eggs and they were incredible! Eggs scrambled with roasted peppers with yogurt and feta cheese on sourdough toast. I also opted to add a side of pulled pork for an extra €3.50. I finished off my lunch with a coffee and a brownie which were equally delicious. The only reason why I didn't give them 5 stars is because despite the food and servers being great it was expensive when compared with similar spots. Had a really tasty Sunday brunch here. I ordered the eggs menemen, which is basically Turkish-style scrambled eggs with tomato, peppers and feta and olive yogurt on sourdough bread. For me it's not a real comforting brunch dish if it doesn't have eggs involved, but it was great to have something a little bit different from the standard eggs benedict you see on every brunch menu. My friend got the famous pulled pork sandwich which I got to try some as the pork came stacked high and was more than enough for one. We had some spicy potatoes to share that again added a nice Middle Eastern flavour to a brunch standard. A list headed "The Treat Menu" couldn't go ignored by me, so I rounded off the meal with a (100% unnecessary) Brother Hubbard smore - a peanut butter cookie with marshmallow on top, covered with chocolate.
