On the night of our visit to Brothers Bar & Grill, my friend Nariah and I had only been inside for approximately 5-10 minutes waiting in line at the bar when a large male approached us and aggressively asked us to move because he wanted to meet his friend at the bar. Despite there being very little room, we moved as much as physically possible to accommodate him. When the man realized we could not move any further, he forcefully pushed past us and bum-rushed through the crowded line. We calmly asked him not to do that again, at which point he became hostile, continued pushing, and called us "black bitches." Shortly after, security approached us instead of addressing the man's behavior. We were aggressively told to "get the tf out" and informed that we were going to be banned. When I asked why, explaining that we had done nothing wrong, security responded by saying they "don't want any ghetto birds in our bar." As women of color being publicly disrespected, shoved, verbally attacked with racist remarks, and unfairly removed from the establishment, we became understandably upset and frustrated. While being pushed out of the establishment, security standing outside also spat on us. For legal purposes, I recorded portions of the incident and took photographs. I am also aware that the establishment has security cameras that should contain footage of the interaction from beginning to end. What makes this even more heartbreaking is that my family has deep roots in this community. My grandfather served as Captain of the Fire Department in Bloomington, and I have personally visited Brothers locations in my own hometown locally without issue. Receiving this type of treatment in the city of Bloomington is deeply saddening and disappointing. It feels as though respect and treatment toward minorities and people of color in certain establishments and parts of the community has significantly declined. No one should feel unsafe, degraded, discriminated against, or racially targeted simply for existing in a public establishment. Based on this experience, I would never recommend eating at or visiting this establishment. No customer should be subjected to racism, physical aggression, verbal abuse, or discriminatory treatment by patrons and security staff alike. read more

Drink and food specials are great. So many TV's to watch whatever sports you're looking for! Bartenders, door staff, servers and mangement at this locatation are spectacular. Great atmopshere and the patio is a nice place to chill in the summer. Also, they allow well behaved, and controlled dogs... 10/10 every time! read more

If I could put 0 stars I would. I typically enjoy going to this establishment during the summer when all of the students are gone, but things have changed. I'm unsure if management has changed or if the hiring process has succumbed to less than none. I am unsure of his exact name, but it was along the lines of Bryson or Tyson. I don't even know where to begin with how upset I am with his behavior and professionalism. It started at the beginning of the night when he said he didn't need to check my ID at the door (implying I'm an old hag) and ended with him spilling a stack of cups on our entire table. It's a while since I've been in a college town bar. Stopped in Brothers Bar & Grill on the way to a concert at IU Auditorium. I asked about drink specials and was told they had pitchers of beer for $8. I said we'd have a pitcher. The waitress then turned to my wife and asked if she wanted a glass. My wife laughed and said she wasn't going to drink straight from the pitcher! Oh, good ol' college days, each drinking their own pitcher! I ordered the Quesadilla Burger for $11.25. I asked if it came with a side. The waitress said it normally comes with chips but they ran out over the weekend. I asked what I could have as a side and she said fries for an additional $1.50. I said if the $11.25 included chips, what was the price without the chips. She said the same price. I got the fries. My wife ordered the Taco Salad for $8.75. The waitress asked if she wanted meat on it. I asked if it came with meat and she said no. She said it would be a $2 up charge. By now, my wife was laughing out loud. (And that's before she'd drank much out of that pitcher of beer). Said she'd never heard of a Taco without meat...unless it was special ordered that way, and that normally didn't cost extra. The food surprised me. It was ok ... not great but ok. The Taco Salad definitely needed the meat. A 3 star for the food. But what did I really expect? Did I mention this IS a college bar? The comedy factor was off the charts at a 6 star. For any non-college student, go for the beer and humor. I'm landing on a 3 star ... We came in earlier, before all the college kids were awake and hitting the town, so it was quiet and calm when we first arrived. And just like a college bar- they've got pitchers of almost anything. (Including beers on tap & specialized cocktails!) The staff was excellent! Our server made sure to check in on us often, even as the bar eventually got busier. This is a solid spot to start at. You can't beat the service or prices. They've got your usual bar food, as expected. I didn't try any of the nachos or cheese curds that our table ordered, but everyone said it was decent. I mean... it's bar food, what can you really say about bar food, amirite? I'd definitely come back here again when I'm looking for a fun spot to have drinks with friends. read more

Pretty good from my seat! I read the last five reviews and was concerned that I might be punched by a bouncer, lose my drivers license or be totally ignored by the staff! None of that happened. It's a typical college bar at night. I must first say that I came to drink a few beers and watch the end of the Astros at Phillies game (Astros lost, $"&@!). The bouncer was a nice college looking like young man. The place was about 40% busy and had trivia going. It was a good environment to watch a World Series game. At the bar, the two bar tenders were thoughtful and very responsive. I got an IPA, sat at a bar stool and had folks lightly rass me about how bad the Astros were doing. They folks were all about the trivia! It was a good night and I enjoyed stopping by. It's a college bar in a college town. If you stop by at night, it will be exactly that. The establishment has done a great job enforcing distancing in venue through spaced tables and new rules. I wanted to go out and have a nice time on my birthday, but we had a horrible experience. I feel mixed about the food, the cheese curds are really good, but I hated the potato chips and my sandwich was just ok. There was a mistake on our order, and after waiting half an hour for our server, we had to have another employee grab them for us. Then we were charged double for the messed up meal which took forever to fix. Also, a drink we ordered was listed as one price on the menu, but was more expensive when we actually paid our check. We got the impression that our server was probably new, and we don't blame them for everything that happened. Clearly they were overworked and probably needed more training. A manager absolutely should have stepped in to help with the issues we were having, but none did. Lastly, most places would offer at least something comped with this many issues, but no such offers were made. Overall, it was a terrible birthday dinner, and we would recommend avoiding this location. read more

First off, don't go here if you have an out of state license unless you want the bouncer to almost destroy it. The lines at night are always way too long for the service you will receive. Once you get in, make sure you know everything you want the entire night before your waitress comes around because once you get your food or first round of drinks, it will be almost impossible to get ahold if them the rest of the night. I went here on a Thursday and on Thursdays it is $1 wells day. When I got my bill it was not the $1.07 like I expected. It was almost $4. I asked the waitress why it wasn't a dollar. She tried to explain but I wasn't following. She said something like it was a double so it costs more. However, I said nothing about ordering a double. I may be biased on this place due to being in their employ, but I still am well enough reserved to give a fair review. The reason I stated working here is due to the staff. They are 5/5 stars. I can't speak highly enough of the them. They are kind, caring and do their jobs in a very professional manner. The prices are some of the best in town when it comes to drinks. Dollar wells on most nights and rotating monthly specials. It is however a chain and you somewhat get that vibe when you are here, but it does give a good home feeling to the local Bloomington sceen. It's no Nicks, but it is one of the main bars to be at in Bloomington. There are a couple reasons why this bar doesn't get 5 stars. 1, nothing is perfect. And 2, the scene here from a couple of years ago has changed drastically. Not sure if it's from the Bloomington scene changing and different people moving here or what it may be, but there have been an increasing number of fights here and even a stabbing outside. The staff here however redeemed the bar by handling all of the situations professionally and promptly. The food here is amazing and pricing again is decent. (I get an employee discount so I am again somewhat biased). Overall the bar is clean, drinks are good and what you pay for, and the food is amazing. I say go and give it a shot. First issue I had was immediately walking in the door, the people checking ID were looking at my GA drivers license and decided to fold it in half with his hand while inspecting. I guess they never have seen a GA drivers license. Onward -- I sat with my crew of 4 waiting on me. Took about 10 minutes for waiter to show up so put in a burger order and a water. The service the entire night is synonymous with the following issue: our waiter was very hard to get ahold of. Once we were ready to checkout the waiter was still absent so I had to get up for my crew to get our checks. The food was okay, it was 2 dollar burger night and for the price was an awesome deal. I've actually been coming in here more recently and it's sort of redeemed itself. The beer is still questionable, but it's been okay the last few times I've been there. I mainly started coming for their food and because they have lots of TVs so that my cable-less (which, in Bloomington, means you just get PBS) ass can watch sports. The food is pretty damn good and I would put the reuben as one of the best in the city. But for a side on that reuben they have these thick, housemade potato chips that are really, really good but BEG for a sauce to dip in. Enter upsells on sauces... Can't dock them for that one, because it's just a smart move. One gripe here: don't bring your damn kids! IT'S A BAR! I guess they want to keep a "family style" section away from the bar, but this is just not the place for anyone under 21 on paper. And, yes, I guess that's a gripe too: the later, much younger crowd who slurp fruity cocktails, block walking paths with their group-talk horde, and shriek for no reason. I'm too old for that, I guess. But I do like coming in here now. I think it's my Yogi's replacement, and a bit of a Scotty's replacement now that they're going downhill. I just need to get out of there before 9pm. The beer is cheaper than Scotty's though, and the food is a lot cheaper. Oh, and they have michaladas. The food is AMAZING! The service sucks and it is WAY too loud to have any kind of decent conversation. The nachos are overflowing with delicious flavor, their salads are crisp, flavorful and well balanced. We have ordered their food to go for years and finally decided to try it in person. Not our best choice. We will continue to order delivery and take out but, the waitresses were so busy flirting with their friends that we got very little service. Racist head of security at the door we have been to brothers numerous times and on Thursday night a "new dress code" was inflicted on us because of wearing two necklace. One heart shaped locked and the other a golden chain. Told us we were not allowed in because of our "chains". Meanwhile white individuals were present near the entrance wearing two thick gold chains in plain sight. But he was allowed entry into the bar. Sounds like a big racist scenario if you ask me. He knowingly let the white boy in white the chains and didn't remove him from the bar letting him still be inside with his "chains". This is beyond unacceptable treatment for 2019. Especially for a in town bar that is present in Indianapolis as well. Seems a bit hypercritical that all of a sudden today's rules or different and we were not allowed entry because we were black individuals wearing gold jewelry.
