So very happy with this business. The owner was able to fix both cuckoo clocks for a great price…read more He is very knowledgeable. A+ business.

For years I have collected somewhat broken chiming clocks on the cheap, one garage sale and thrift…read morestore at a time, and kept them limping along until death, then replacing with another. Some silently told the time, some continued to strike the hour but failed to add the Westminster chime, some randomly played a fragment of the chime but never anything else, and one never did anything at all (but I could tell by manually dropping the hammer how beautiful it would sound if it could ever run again). Then there was my pride and joy, the cuckoo clock, that I had repaired 30 years ago. Over time it stopped again -- first with its music box, then with the birdy, and then it wouldn't let me wind it at all. I had always intended to get them fixed, if circumstances ever allowed-- but my two local clock repair fellows died before I got around to it. The expenditure moved high on my priority list when the one remaining cuckoo clock repair place I knew of quit, too. Imagine my delight to discover a man in Saugatuck who was willing to tackle them all! He listened to the history of each clock and its ails, he explained how pricing would depend on required work--ranging from simple cleaning to more extensive repair or replacement of parts, if parts could be found. I explained my budget and priorities, and I left hoping he might be able to fix at least one or two of them. I picked them ALL up yesterday! He showed me how to hang the pendulums and set each clock, and packed them for safe transport in the car. Back home now they all keep time accurately, they all chime beautifully, and I was happy to discover as a bonus that the one that had never run at all even has a lovely sound as it ticks. I couldn't be a happier customer. Thanks, Mr. Dirkse.

The Clock Shoppe - My gutted Landmark clock that no longer keeps time. The chime mechanism is gone.

I am writing this review to save someone else from heartbreak…read more In 1983, my father gifted a Landmark Westminster chime clock to me for my first wedding anniversary. The clock was maintained by an excellent, trustworthy clock shop in Toledo, Ohio. I took my clock there until the shop owner retired. After moving to Fort Wayne I needed to find someone to service my clock. I took my Landmark clock and another mantel clock to The Clock Shoppe on July 26th, 2022. I was told by James Hansen, the clock technician, that both clocks could not be repaired. He advised gutting both clocks of their chime/wind up mechanisms and converting them to battery power automatic clocks. He gave me a written estimate of the repairs, and told me it would be 6 months before the clocks would be finished. I gave him permission to go ahead. In October 2022, I called the shop and was told the clocks were still not finished and that someone would call when they were done. In March 2023, I called again. The clocks were still not finished. In April 2024, I had enough. I wanted my clocks back whether they were finished or not. BE ADVISED: The shop is not open every day. They are only open 2 days a week and it is difficult to reach anyone, so this time I contacted the shop by email. His wife apologized and said only one clock was completed, and I could come to the shop and get it. I picked up my Landmark clock on April 16, 2024. The clock had been converted and was working. But the chime quality was definitely not the same. His wife gave me a substantial discount on my bill and promised me that my other clock would be repaired, free of charge, and delivered to my home in a few days. They offered me no explanation as to why they took 1 year and 9 months to repair my clock or why they had never contacted me. When I got the Landmark clock home, the chime had no volume whatsoever. I was very disappointed. James brought the mantel clock to our home on April 24th, 2024. Today, June 6, 2024, the Landmark clock will no longer keep time. It's ruined. It's no longer a chime clock. I can't take it to any other clock repair, and I certainly won't take it back to The Clock Shoppe. If you have a chime clock that you love and cherish, save yourself the heartbreak that I have endured. Listen to me: DO NOT TAKE YOUR CLOCK TO THE CLOCK SHOPPE. Do not listen to their advice. Do not allow them to make any modifications to your clock. Keep your clock intact, the way it is, and take it somewhere else. I wish I would have never allowed them to touch my beautiful clock.

Lack of willingness to help , organization of part prices lacking . Seems like hobby not a businessread more
