Great golfing challenge if you want a nicer MKE public County golf course experience. Despite 2023 summer season lack of rain, course was still in pristine condition. Suggest earlier a.m. tee times in the shorter Wisconsin summer season. $43.00 to walk 18 holes if you transport your own bag. At least it is on a Friday during high season. Pro shop staff is nice enough. UPDATE: July 8, 2024. It's unfortunate. The Antler's Tavern at the Brown Deer golf course, it's unpredictable operating hours are hard to determine. For instance, we finished our round at 4 pm, and they decided to close early at 02:30 pm. When I had asked the Pro Shop, this was the lame answer that they had offered me. There were still plenty of golfers and golfing going on. So, no food, snacks or drinks there! Disappointing. read more

Excellent condition, nice pro shop and driving range. One of the top golf experiences in the area. Tip is to pay for a discount card for $20 that give $36 off green fee! No brainer. I paid full price when checking in but went back after my round and the pro shop refunded my round added a card and gave me lower rate saving me $16 on this round and over $30 in future. read more

Brown Deer Golf Course is a championship-caliber track with well-kept bent grass fairways, tees and greens. It has hosted the U.S. Bank Championship, a PGA Tour event from 1994 to 2009, USGA national championships and now hosts an LPGA Symetra Tour event, the PHC Classic. In 1996, Tiger Woods made his pro debut here when he played in the Greater Milwaukee Open. All of this being said, Milwaukee residents can play this course (ride 18, weekend) for $63! That may seem pricey to the average golfer, but if you want to play a course that has hosted a PGA tour event you're going to pay $300+ to play The Straights or Erin Hills. Now, I'm not saying this course is equal to either of those iconic courses, but Brown Deer is a gem for Milwaukee residents given its rich history and reasonable rates. They have recently redone the road in front of the clubhouse, and it seems they are taking some strides to keep the place up to date. This is my go-to public course in Milwaukee for sure. read more

2.5 stars but my husband and his friend would give it 3 stars. Definitely looks and plays like an old course. It's in good condition, well maintained. No bathrooms, no gps. Challenging course so play can be slow. Great staff! If you are a WI resident, it's definitely worth it to get the discount card and if you're a senior, for sure play during the week. We are IL residents so we weren't able to get a discount card so the course is expensive for what it is. read more

Nice wide open spaces for cross country skiing during the cold & snowy months. Decent elevation changes to enhance the workout, the downhill is always a blast too. You won't find any prepped ski paths like other parts of the park, snow on the golf course is left natural. It's fun to see all the critter tracks criss crossing each other in the snow. Not only are there squirrel & rabbit tracks, you'll also see signs of deer & fox. Brown Deer Golf Course is the prettiest of all Milwaukee County run golf courses. The course was designed & constructed in 1929. The clubhouse has become a historic site. A PGA Tour event that was held here from 1968 to 2009. During that time, Tiger Woods made his pro debut at the course when he played in the Greater Milwaukee Open. Despite making a hole-in-one on the 14th hole, he finished tied for 60th and took home $2,544 in earnings. I play this course a few times a year over the warmer months. The fairways are mowed to perfection & the greens roll smooth & true. Holes have character & vary greatly. Some holes are challenging but they are balanced out by holes where you can easily score low. Facilities are excellent. When you're on this course you would never realize that this course is a muni. Beginners beware: bring lots of extra balls, hazards are plentiful. read more

I live nearby and regularly golf here. I'm an old timer and recall the old pre-GMO days when the course was heavily wooded and had some drainage issues on most of the old back nine and the holes on the old front nine(the nines were reversed long ago) having the creek run through. Post GMO brought a significant fall off in the quality of the upkeep and management of the course in my opinion. Luckily, new management and securing the LPGA Semetra Tour slot has restored this track to the level it attained back in the days of the GMO. It is still a difficult test from the blues and blacks despite overall length in the mid 6000 range. With a Milwaukee County discount membership, weekday green fees are more than reasonable and the course rarely suffers from overplay or overbooking. Twilight golf walking is a steal at $17.00 till dark. Excellent bent grass fairways, tees and greens. When I played recently the greens were firm but held your approach. Would estimate green speed 10+ on the stimpmeter with the majority having significant undulation. Actually considered deleting this review to keep the secret alive. read more

I am in utter shock at the experience I had today playing 9 holes at Brown Deer golf course. The once apex of Milwaukee county golf courses has fallen considerably. I would never have imagined that a golf course that commands $50 something dollars a round(without discount card) on the weekends wouldn't have water available on the course. Well today Brown Deer surely didn't. So imagine my surprise when the temperature reached 88 degrees and I couldn't get a drink of water, less of course I drank from a puddle on the ground. When I finally cracked from dehydration and raced back to the club house to purchase any type of liquid I could find, I spotted 3 employees, two of which were doing absolutely nothing. So I inquired as to why since there was 3 of them, why didn't somebody fill the course water jugs. I was immediately told by a smart mouth young person with a baseball cap that filling the water jugs on the course was not part of their dept. Excuse me, not part of your dept? I never realized that Brown Deer golf course was so large they broke they're employees down by dept's. But the Piece de resistance is that my golf league booked Brown Deer 6 months in advance for our tee times and the course still managed to double book us behind a high school girls match. So needless to say, we were 45 mins to an hr behind schedule. So with everything I have experienced, I would say to any golfer, stay away from Brown Deer golf course. Play Oak Wood or Dretzka. Brown Deer simple put.. Sucks!! read more
