This is one of the only restaurants that serves fried chicken liver and gizzards and that's why we love coming here. The guy that works here (I think he is the owner) is so friendly. Nothing like walking in to a restaurant and the guy behind the counter won't get off his phone. They have a coupon on their website I want to use, so I show him a screenshot but he says to either print it out or order from the site. But the button that says to claim the special on their site just goes back to the image of the coupon. I tell the guy this and he says he doesn't know how the site works. Walking in, interior looked kinda grungy and half the size of the stand up stores. Privately owned with a menu that boasted all that Brown's offers..Chicken, pasta, sandwiches and more. I ordered my usual - chicken breast sandwich plain with cheese, comes with a side and biscuit. Of course I got the shrooms (for old times sake). THE best fried shrooms around. Golden flour coated and crispy. Always hit the spot and after a decade of eating these bad boys, the recipe has remained the same. Still awesome. I was in fried shroom heaven. Order took a good 15-20 min. and we decided to eat in. Everything was served hot and fresh. My chicken sammy was just as good as I remembered. Perfect crust, thick juicy breast. Gooey melted cheese. There's nothing greasy about this chicken. So so good. He devoured his wings, I didn't even know Brown's served wings until this visit. Biscuit was buttery tender and I inhaled it. I must admit I haven't had a more tender biscuit in the longest time. No complaints on the food. but...I wouldn't go out of my way to visit this location again because it could've been tidier and is in need of serious TLC. *Sigh* It appears that my quest for decent fried chicken that I do not have to drive into the city for will continue unabated, as this place was barely passable. Good fried chicken is not quantum physics folks. Let's break it down shall we? And I will add my thoughts on how Brown's Chicken stacks up in turn. 1) Chicken needs to be decent quality- Highly doubtful in this instance, or it would of been far more succulent and meaty. 2) Use of good flour mixed with appropriate seasoning to emphasize taste: It was good and crunchy, but it was devoid of much flavor. They do have hot sauce available, but if you have to douse your chicken with hot sauce then there is obviously a problem. 3) Make sure chicken fry oil is changed out regularly so it does not give the chicken that "burnt" taste (ideally pan fried): No dice from Brown's chicken on this one either. 4) Chicken is not over-battered: Nothing sucks more than biting into a piece of chicken that seems huge, but the reality is it just has a layer of crust 2 inches thick. This is one area Brown's did decent on, but one out of 4 is not going to cut it. This place is simply not legit by any true chicken lovers standards. The biscuits were not very tasty either. Kind of doughy with a hint of flour. Their fried okra (a personal fav of mine that I was actually excited to see on the menu) was greasy similarly lifeless. The lone highlight side dish was the mac and cheese, which was really tasty, but this was hardly enough to elevate this place's overall rating. Looks like I am going to have to make a pilgrimage to the ghetto sooner rather than later if there is ever going to be a decent 2 piece and a biscuit in my future. read more

We ordered our food and it said to go outside and wait. we walked around the strip mall and our food still wasn't ready. She finally started to prepare our food. As I waited, I noticed how filthy this place was. We got our food. When we got home, we found our fritters missing. The gravy was full of huge lumps and the potatoes were stiff. Brown's was once the premier fried chicken chain and even this one was really good; we've lived in Schaumburg since 1985 and loved the chicken here up until about 7 or 8 years ago. Tonight we thought we would give it another chance. We ordered a 4 piece dinner online for pickup at 7:40 PM. When I arrived there was one woman minding the store and no one else in sight; no one cooking. She grabbed the chicken from the back that looked like it had been sitting under a warming' light, put the 2 sides and the one biscuit (there were supposed to be 2) in the bag. The chicken was dry.cold, and rubbery, the mashed potatoes & gravy were cold and lumpy, the biscuit was stale. At least the Cole slaw was still as good as it always was. I don't know when they stop cooking it fresh in the store but their hours show open until 10 PM and a 7:30 pickup should still have freshly cooked meals available. Also, the interior has not been updated or freshened in at least the last 15 years. Maybe we will try again in another 10 years if they survive that long. read more

Over cooked jumbo shrimp, they were dark brown and very crisp. The advertisement for the turkey bowl showed thick sliced turkey. The turkey was cut into cubes. After I paid for the order and was waiting for the food I was told they didn't have any stuffing. He said they would give me extra mashed potatoes. The prices for some orders while a bit much, are always fresh and crispy which is worth it. They also have great limited special options so it's worth it to check out my favorite which is a $10 Ten Piece Fried Chicken (All Dark). As for the atmosphere, it's welcoming and smells like Fried Chicken Heaven.
