Very poor experience with Brown's. I went in with electrical problems. It was the alternator. They put the wrong type in so I had to bring my car back and they replaced it again with the right one. Before bringing it back the second time I mentioned the transmission was being weird and they passed it off saying "don't know about the transmission" a month later I take it in to In N Out Automotive across the street and turns out Browns had never remounted the bottom of the engine and lost the bolt! That solved the transmission problem. Brown's probably would have easily fixed this if they had listened but as soon as you talk to someone you're met with a smugness and hurried feel. Not to mention they charged me $900 for an alternator change on a 2004 ford focus. That's too much.... Please take your business across the street to In N Out. I needed a quick oil change before heading out of state. If I hadn't been pushed for time. I would have never stopped at the location. Being in a hurry I jumped in the car and didn't notice until I was leaving that my interior was covered in grease. I keep my car in pristine condition and was sick at what they had done. They did offer to clean it but I had no time to go back. One spot I can't get out. I was a co-owner of an auto repair in Cullman and know there is no excuse for such a sloppy job. read more

I brought my vehicle here on 7/19/2022 to get my window regulator replaced. I was aware that they were significantly overcharging me, as the actual cost for a window regulator for my make and model is around $100, but they charged me $491. I didn't really have much of a choice though, as the window was completely down with no way to pull it back up, and cars in Nashville get stolen pretty frequently, so I had to get it fixed ASAP. Six months later, it is no longer functioning again. I moved to WA state unexpectedly, but two shops here in WA suggested that I call to see if Browns would partially reimburse me or pay the shop directly to have another one installed. I called today and was told that I would have to bring my receipt, and they would be happy to give me a warranty on it, but they weren't going to come to WA to look at it, nor were they going to contribute towards the cost of having it replaced here. If you do decide to use this shop, please make sure to keep a receipt handy and make sure that you don't move out-of-state just in case something goes wrong. read more

DO NOT GO TO THIS SHOP | They haven't even claimed this Yelp page as their own... If you do, these guys will damage your car more if you bring it in so you keep on having to bring it into their shop for them to damage it more. They keep you in a loop of further damages and distress, they promise fast turnaround times and don't deliver on them ("We'll have it checked out and get you an estimate by tomorrow" - [3 days later]... "Looks like there's gonna be two tubes to replace and it'll cost you $450 dollars"), and then they take 5-6 days altogether to "get the work done"... except no work gets done at all. The guys pissed on my clothes, left my windows open and let the rain soak my back seats, and left Subway wrappers all over my car's floor. Mind you- only one day after leaving their shop that first time I took my car in for "repairs", my car's antifreeze/coolant tank (the original problem I brought my car into Brown's for to get checked out) began leaking more rapidly than ever, my AC turned off (which wasn't a problem before taking my car into their shop), and the engine light turned on. The second time I called in before bringing my car in to get the original problem fixed, they said it'd be $550 this time around cuz more problems had popped up... problems they clearly created. I told the guy over the phone, "No, you're going to fix the original problem I already paid you to fix at no extra cost" at which point, the gentleman at the front replied, "Oh dang, well we just want everyone to feel happy and fuzzy inside, but we really can't discount ya, plus, we warned ya that if you don't repair every last thing we suggest right off the bat, then your car will have a lot of other problems..." Let me just add that after I took it in that second time (it took them another week to do any "repairs") the engine light still hadn't gotten turned off, and while the AC had been fixed (the one thing that got fixed in all of this), the antifreeze/coolant tank was leaking so fast, I'd refill it fully one day and it'd be empty the next day. And now, the pièce de résistance: two-three weeks after picking it up the second time from their shop (my mistake for going back to them), the Service StabiliTrack and Service Traction lights have come on and the engine check light is now blinking and my car can barely make it up a hill. Thanks for absolutely nothing, Brown's. Someone grab the security videos from their shop for me, please. I'm convinced these guys are literally sitting around on their thumbs and laughing about all the "suckers" they're conning. They lie through their teeth and don't do any work on your vehicle and when you ask for a discount for the lengthy "repair" process and further damages they've caused, they happily schedule you, and then damage your car further. But hey! They really stepped up and took $100 off of that $450 for a cash only transaction since their card readers "weren't working." Again... I couldn't have asked for a better deal for the work they didn't do. Are these guys threatening anyone else with further damages to their car if you don't pay them the full price of their bogus estimates? They'll laugh at you if you express any disappointment with their lack of work or business ethics and act like you're the one being petty. I've been here twice for oil changes. The first time they lied about topping off my fluids - there were old leaves all over the top of my coolant cover and washer fluid cover. So they filled them and put the leaves back??? The second they were bothered I asked them to check the tire pressure. Just now, I stopped by to see if they could read the code on my car, the check engine light came on yesterday. The amount of condescension oozing from the guy who runs the place is baffling. Don't you want customers?? Here I'm trying to support my local neighborhood garage and he's rolling his eyes at me and telling me the codes won't tell me anything. I tell him I understand codes, and that I know It can still be a guessing game - but at least it'll tell me the system having the issue. He's unfriendly and rude, and it's not the first time I've experienced it. After I got the code, the other two (one young guy, and one older) proceeded to laugh at me, as if there's no way a female could possible know anything about cars. Update: I've continued to frequent this business for the past three years. They always go above and beyond explaining any work they recommend, oftentimes performing small services for no charge (I had a tire stolen and was afraid my wheel hub was bent - they checked it and drove it around to test it for me for free). -------- Been bringing may car here for a couple years now for oil change and tire rotation. They are awesome! Reasonably priced, pretty fast, and very nice. Plus there is a coffee shop across the street where you can go sit and wait while they work on your car. read more

I hWorst shop EVER!!! Don't let these crooks work on your car. The biggest crook is the boss and he's there everyday. People in the community have told me I shouldn't have went there. I took my car in on 1/24 for the check engine light, it was returned repaired to me the same day for $450. The next day I was having problems I've never had before. Long story short I broke down on 1/29 they told me they could not come get my car off the freeway until the next day. After dropping the car off 3 additional times on different dates it's now 2/5 the check engine light is on and they won't take any responsibility. They also told me not to come back. Please beware of this place!!! I had an oil change at browns last week for there special price of $40. 5 days later, my car was having serious engine issues and finally stopped. I hired a registered qualified mechanic from TSU with 30 years experience, to come to my house and trouble shoot with full a diagnostics machine. What he discovered was alarming. Not only did Browns put the wrong oil in ( My car requires Fully synthetic) they had put very old dirty oil probably from there storage recycle tank in the back. Left my truck to be repaired and to make a long story short it took 3 months to get a truck back with more problems than it started with. Let's just say nearly $4000 later and having to do the repairs myself I have no money left to keep pouring into this truck. My parents had similar results with their vehicles taking to long or having the wrong parts put on and paying again to get the right parts put on. I had some car trouble on the interstate so I called these guys for tow and they were there within 30 minutes. When my car got to their shop, they used their diagnostic tool to determine why my check engine light was on and why my car had stopped. It turned out to be a faulty sensor in my engine. They called a local parts store and the part was in stock. They quoted me a fair price and they were able to repair my car within reasonable amount of time. My car works fine, my issue is with the price I paid to have my alternator replaced. It was the opinion of two other professional mechanics that I was overcharged at least $220 ($820 total) for the job. Brown's either knew it wouldn't be worth it to have my car towed somehow where else, so they took advantage of me, or they grossly overcharge all their customers, not just me. These penny pinching cheats will steal your money and be rude about doing it. If you have another option, wisdom suggests that you DO NOT GO to Brown's Automotive. read more

I had a terrible gas leak. Brown's told me it would cost $1000 to fix it and that the 90 degree metal elbows coming out of the fuel pump were rusted. I knew they were lying because the fuel pump is just over a year old. When I asked questions the guy on the phone got defensive and said "well you can come pick it up if you want then." So I did. I limped it home with gas leaking everywhere. I dropped the tank on my 15 passenger van and found a cracked hose above the tank. They never looked to find the problem, they just came up with a number of $1000. It cost me $2.28 for the hose from NAPA! read more

They were kind of rude. You can tell the owner or manager (whatever he is) thinks very highly of himself. Not very helpful. I would rather pay double the cost somewhere else. They told me I need new brakes on the front and back. I replaced them on the back and was going to come back for the front. I went somewhere else for the front since I had a bad taste about this place (Brown's) and they said my front brakes were still at 75% and that I needed new rotors. The place where I took my car to get the front brakes replaced also told me that the people who checked my front brakes last left off the hardware kit (springs, bolts, etc) which creates wear and tear on the brakes. I called my brother (a mechanic in Ohio) and he said they probably left them off because I wouldn't know and they got lazy about it. My car was also making a sound. I asked them to check it as I was talking my car on a 7 hr road trip a few days later. He could care less about my safety and said he would look at it the next time I brought it in for my front brakes.... not going to happen! I would highly recommend someplace else for your car service. read more

BEWARE!!! YOU WILL BE RUINED & STOLE FROM I got my truck towed there after a bad spin-out where i hit a guardrail in the rain on i-65 one day .AAA took it to Browns on a friends recomendation. I was introduced to the guy that was going to do a diagnosis. Well a week went by abd i called and called trying to see what was going on. NOT only did i get the run-a-round about him being really busy and he would get to it BUT alot of the time i was told he wasnt around or he was too by. After more time i got hia cell number from i guess his boss who assures me everything's ok and it will be took care of. I CALL AND CALL his cell and he never answers and sends me texts that he will look at it tomorrow or the next or the next. Eventually i threaten to go to his boss again and remove my car so he says he WILL indeed look at it and fit me in that day. He tells me the radiator was cracked and a head gasket was blown. So i start asking alot of questions and ask about pricing and timing, he says he will get back to me!!! I take that time to get second opinions and other prices.Well he goes missing again no answer, im soooo frustrated im ready to give him a piece of my mind. So when i FINALLY get ahold of him i tell him what i think of how he conducts business in a not so nice way and i guess he looses his temper and BLURTS out screaming "the god**** head gaskets blown anyway which means the motors a piece of **** anyway now so its as good as junk" then says hes got to go back to work. With that i get a ride down there to talk to him face to face and when i do i realize my truck isnt in the lot..i though maybe it WAS in the garage for some reason. So i find him and im confused and upset and he tells me that one they had to move it to there SISTER store in another part of nashville and two he was going to personally spend his off time working on it and he would give me and great price for the inconvenience and he would have it done in a week so i calm down and give him a chance. I get the same ole song and dance..no answer no word on my truck so i look up the location of SISTER store and call them to let them know im sending a tow truck to pick up my truck and im informed that not only does and man by that name not work there but we are NOT AT ALL AFFILIATED WITH THE OTHER BROWNS!!! (Alot of people get them confused because of the same name but we perform two whole different services.) He says. I AM FLOORED not only did he straight up lie to me about everything eles BUT where my truck was and his own employee!! I know it sounds like it couldnt get ANY worst but it does. I go back to where originally this whole mess started and ask to speak to my so called mechanics boss and he completely covers for him as well, lies for him and tells me IM a liar and crazy. He says that he has heard me harassing him over and over and that he was standing right next to my mechanic while he was on the phone with me and heard him BEG me to come get my truck and warned me to come get it because he couldnt hold it no more so he endes up giving him the ok to have it "towed off". I said towed off to where! He says we contract with people to handle that kind of stuff.Well i flip out threaten them with the law and beg t o just know where Its at.Nothing. Then i threaten law suits and the WORST is i was told by the boss .who knows.but told after 30 days they can leagally keep it or something about maybe a mechanic lean but either way i got my truck literally STOLEN by a supposed to be legitimate buainess and there is nothing i can do about it. Great place with great service. I was scrambling trying to get a check engine light off before my tags expired, and Brown's did me a solid. My valve cover gasket needed replacing and they did a tune up and a few other things for the same price! Would definitely recommend. I started out with very high hopes for this shop. Instead I ended up with a month long mess of being treated with horrible customer service and a worse problem than I started with. I stopped in with a leak on my passenger floorboard and they were confident that they could fix it by cleaning out a drain under my car. When they finished cleaning out the drain they charged me 50 dollars, which seemed reasonable, and thanked me for my business. The next morning after raining all night, I found my car completely flooded again. I brought it back to them immediately and they looked it over again. They said what really must be causing the problem is a missing part under my cowl. They said they'd look into ordering it for me and give me a call back. I waited a week and heard nothing so I called back. The man on the phone said he lost my number and couldn't call me back to tell me that they could't find the part. He didn't apologize for losing my number. He told me I would have to come and leave my car for a whole day so they could go looking for parts for it. I tried to get him to explain why this was necessary and at this point he became very agitated and impatient and said it just had to be that way. I told him I would bring the car in later that week because I would have to take off work. The next morning I had a snow day (I'm a teacher) and so I took advantage of my day off to drop off the car. When I brought it in he was visibly irritated and reminded me I said I'd bring it in later that week and that he was planning on that. I explained my situation and he said fine, leave it, but it's freezing outside. As if that had anything to do with it. To make a long story a little shorter, from there they kept my car 3 days straight looking for a part. I had to take another day off work and in the end they assured me that the part was impossible to find and wouldn't even give me a name or description of it. They said there's wasn't anything they could do. They didn't apologize for keeping my car for three days (without calling me by the way, i had to call them multiple times to get i touch and pick my car back up). They didnt refund the money for the drain. To top everything off, a week later I realize that they FORGOT TO PUT THE COWL BACK ON MY CAR. It was completely missing. I was so fed up by this point my boyfriend went back in and demanded them to return it. They walked around the shop for awhile and he finally found it. He didn't aplogize for more or less stealing it, he couldn't find the screws it came with and didn't offer to put it back on. I have never had a business put me through this much horrible customer service. I highly recommend that everyone avoid this place! read more

I dropped my car off for an oil change, AC check and a mysterious stalling issue. While he couldn't get it to stall, he did everything my Dad had suggested I have done, without me telling him my dad had suggested these things. They also stayed 30 minutes late so I could pick my car up the same day. Everything was explained to me and I received an over the phone quote before the car was touched. I had been having communication and time issues with my other mechanic and am so pleased I had a great experience at Brown's. I never have to go to that other mechanic again! Browns charged me over $900 to tune up our van, when I got the receipt it stated that a part had been replaced but the van was still not running properly. I took it back to them when the check engine light came back on and they said they would fix it under their "warranty" they kept it for 3 more days then called and said it was ready. My wife went to pick it up and they didn't say two words to her. It was still a problem, worse than before. Bottom line is I took it to another shop and $450 later it is finally fixed. I had my 2011 Ford E350 towed to Brown's after it sat in my driveway for a couple of months and wouldn't start after charging the battery. No crank. I had taken the starter and battery to be tested and determined them to be fine. The issue was somewhere before the starter. They assured me that they had all the same equipment that the Ford Dealership had and would be able to diagnose the issue just as well if not better than Ford. I told them that the starter was in good shape. They called me a week later and told me that they got it running by replacing the starter and removing the aftermarket keyless entry. This was especially problematic because my key would only unlock the rear passenger side door. The mechanic told me that there were no tumblers in the other locks, that's why the key wouldn't work. I was a little annoyed because they replaced a perfectly fine Ford OEM starter with some off brand but thought "what do I know, I'm not a mechanic. I guess he had to replace the starter and rip out the keyless entry for it to work again". The next day I got stranded away from the house when the same issue happened again. No Crank, No Start with plenty of juice from the battery. I called Brown's and they towed it back to their shop, which I appreciated. After is sat there for a week, I called to check in. They hadn't even looked at it. The mechanic then went out to check it and it started up with no issues so they called me to come get it. They had no explanation for the intermittent starting issues. I drove it home and the next day, same thing. Full battery - No Crank, No Start. I began to do some inspection myself and noticed that the "mechanic" had broken the top off of 6 fuses to visually inspect, rather than checking them properly with a continuity tester, as well as breaking a relay for my wheelchair lift. He also left his soldering iron laying on my (borrowed)OBD Code reader and melted the plastic casing. Luckily it was that and not something connected to the vehicle. In addition, I found the lunch trash from his trip to Sonic including open dipping sauce packets and a bottled drink all stuffed into my engine bay. At this point, I decided to skip the 3rd tow to Browns and try and diagnose myself. I called the shop and asked them to provide the information they obtained from the diagnostics test they initially ran. The shop manager could provide no information, nor confirm that the test was ever run in the first place. I removed the door panels and found that there were in fact tumblers at every lock location and that they were either corroded or the lock/key combo had been changed at some point. I replaced all the locks so I can at least unlock the drivers door manually now. Regrading the starting issue, I traced the wires and diagnosed the problem was in the computer. It got fried by something and just needed to be replaced. All this to say, I'm handy, but by no means a mechanic and it frustrates me to pay a "professional" to butcher a job. I don't think they are malicious and trying to rip you off, but I do think they are unprofessional and maybe not great at their job. read more

I've been nothing but pleased with their service on both of my cars as well as the pickup truck. As with anything mechanical on a vehicle, I ALWAYS keep receipts - even for an oil change. It's just common sense. Brown's replaced a battery in one of my vehicles. It failed within a year. I found the receipt, called Brown's, and they came out, towed the car in, and replaced the battery with no cost to me. So they don't powder your behind with customer service - geez people - grow up. read more

Number 1 the son is very arrogant. Number 2 .Had a power steering belt replaced. Drove vehicle app 5-6 wks. Belt became loose again. Took it back....said they had put on a belt that was too large. They ordered another belt...looked at it said it was too large.At that point I am thinking do you not know the size to order. Belt 3 they put on. Drove about 2mths,belt has stretched again. Took to another mechanic,fan shroud broken and pulley for belt broken. Have no idea,but suspect that the teenager who was instructed(out of school for snow day)to do the work was not trained nor experienced to do so. This observation is made by the fact of the amount of time it took him and so much knocking and pounding going on. Do i know if they caused the damage...no. But should they have seen it and reported it, YES! Will never use them again and highly do not recommend them to work on your vehicle. The original issue that I took the vehicle in about was the brake light came on. They checked it,added brake fluid,told me to bring it back...couldn't do anymore that day...too much work. Took it back and was told the master cylinder needed to be replaced. Had someone else look at it and the reservoir was cracked....big difference in $$$$. So getting the power steering belt was a ..."any idea why the noise when turning and play in steering wheel" conversation. read more

I hate to have to write a negative review about any business but in the case I feel that I should warn other consumers. For BASIC car repairs (oil change, tire rotation, brake check) these guys will do just fine. For ANYTHING else, beware. I had several warning lights come up on my Prius and thought I would take it to them as they had done some basic things to it in the past. After several days the service tech convinced us that the car needed a new ABS computer part and that he could find a good used part for less. We agreed, part was installed, and we went to pick up the vehicle. In addition I had a brake light repaired and an oil change.....the total came to $1300. The NEXT morning after picking the vehicle up ALL of the same codes initially showing were back on. I returned the car to Brown's and wast told that the ABS light was NOT showing (even though it was when I took it back) so it must be something else and they wanted to run some tests. And the end of all of it, we got a call that they had driven the vehicle (more than once) and that intermittantly codes were coming on(but never ABS) and that currently no lights were on. We came to pick up the car and were told that they thought that probably the main Prius battery was going dead. At that time I decided to take it to the dealership the next business day as it seemed like more of a major, specialty issue. When I picked the vehicle up it was not indicated to me in ANY way that the vehicle should not be driven. And when I picked it up NO warning lights were on in the vehicle. Take make a long story short, the car broke down on the interstate less than a day later and once I got it to the Toyota dealership I was told that more than likely the ABS computer system was NEVER the main issue and that it was probably always an issue with the transaxle AND that the work that was done on the vehicle by less skilled technicians could have in fact exacerbated the problem. Because I continued to drive the car (again, at no point was it indicated to me by folks at Brown's that I should not drive the car) it actually broke beyond reasonable repair At the end of all of this I was out a total of $1700 ($1300 at Brown's and an additional $400 at Beaman) and have a car that is essentially junk. Some might say I should have taken it to the dealer from the very beginning, which is probably true ,but I also believe the folks at Brown's should have had the ethical sense to send me to the dealer when they clearly did not fix the vehicle. When I called to discuss how unhappy I was with their services I got absolutely nowhere. They were arrogant, defensive jerks who were completely unsympathetic and unwilling to make ANY kind of gesture to improve my overall view of my experience with them. read more
