This is a two part review. First , these guys are what everyone says; they a professional, thorough, and know what they are doing. I highly recommend them if you need extensive repairs. This is not the auto shop for minor repairs or for people who have to watch their budget. My car stopped. I thought it was my alternator. The battery didn't seem to be holding a charge. I had taken out and had it tested and the auto parts place had told me I needed a new alternator. I had Pheonix come and get it. They were quick and responsive and all I needed was a new battery that ended up costing me 782 dollars after towing and the 149 dollar diagnostic. I would use them again for any MAJOR issue, but I'll never return for anything I even suspect is a minor repair. Nearly a thousand bucks for a battery seems excessive. read more

We needed to have our front windshield replaced while traveling from Virginia. The staff was very courteous both on Yelp and in person, and made sure they had the correct replacement. Our estimated wait time was three hours, but since we opted to wait, the job was done in under an hour! I had high hopes, but the communication was just too consistently negligent. I took my car in on a Thursday because the check engine light came on, and they said they'd get to it first thing Friday morning. I called Friday for an update, and he said I was next in line and to not call back as he would call me as soon as the diagnostic was done. I stressed that I needed my car that day as I know they're closed on the weekend. He never called that Friday, so I left a voicemail to call me ASAP because I needed my car for the weekend. When they opened again Monday, the morning came and went with still no call, so I dropped in. He said he never got my voicemail nor recalls talking on the phone, yet miraculously had an update on my car -- to which I wasn't notified until this drop-in. He proceeded to tell me my coolant pump was leaking and it was entirely empty of coolant when they checked it, so they ordered a new pump. After taking yet another lyft home, I received and read through the mechanic's inspection which said there were NO leaks and the coolant was at a good level. I called back asking for clarity, to which the guy backpedaled on what he said as I gradually corrected him against what was said in the mechanic's notes. He finally admitted he never read the notes. I just wasted a lot of time and Lyft rides due to the bad communication, so I urge people to read the inspection and repeatedly call/drop in if you insist on using this auto shop. read more

I am very pleased, my car is running tip top. The price was high but it is necessary maintenance and I had confidence that they would get the job done right. Upon arrival the intake person was very accommodating and helpful. It took about 5 hrs to repair my vehicle. They were very thorough in their explanations, showed me pictures, contacted my warranty company and their attention to customer service was beyond expection. I got hungry and asked for a place to walk to, to get food. The intake person, brought me 1/2 of his own sandwich, chips and yogurt as well as a comfy chair to sit outside and eat. Upon completion every person exceeded ALL my expectations toward a customer they'd probably never see again. I'm 74 and have been driving 58 years. Phoenix disguises piracy with a veneer of professionalism. Located near downtown and suitable only for high-income people with little sense and less vehicle knowledge. I took my vehicle in for a bad sensor. Fixed-price diagnostic - which is applied to each item you ask to be investigated - is $169. I had a rear door that wouldn't open. After the diagnostic charge they quoted another $400+ to replace the latch mechanism. I smelled a rat. The fix turned out to be a $5 part and an hour of my time. They replaced the sensor but at a high cost. Find a smaller, less elaborate shop in a lower income part of the city and you'll get honest service for less money. read more

I had a CEL and the dealership was booked up for weeks, so I started searching for local mechanics. Phoenix was the first one that came up because of their great reviews. I saw that they took walk-ins and so I called in to confirm and spoke with Joe, who told me to come on in. Well, they were able to quickly diagnose the problem (rodents chewing engine wiring) and were soooo incredibly nice through the process. Johnny and Plummer showed me pictures of what the wiring looked like and how the repair would happen. They have an online status which gives you a bunch of real time details, reasonable labor rates ($40/hr less than the dealership), clean waiting room, easy drop-off/pick-up process and everyone was just amazing. This is my second time coming to Phoenix auto repair and I was bowled over again by the customer service. These guys really go above and beyond to make you feel comfortable and understand what needs to be done to your car. And as a woman, I do not take this lightly! My college aged daughter has been in Nashville for all of 4 weeks. After experiencing ice and snow for the first time, she happened to find herself in a fender bender. We had no idea which auto repair shop to go with. After asking around we were told to call Phoenix Auto Body. Johnny took care of us and treated my daughter like one of his own. Felt like we were taken advantage of while we were traveling. I flew to Nashville to meet my daughter (who also traveled about 350 miles to Nashville) it was her car that needed the service for the trunk not latching. I would never recommend this business. We were specific with what we needed / wanted repaired. They completed their assessment which included other recommended repairs of which we were not looking for. We only wanted the trunk latch repaired as it had suddenly frozen up and would not latch. We ended up being charged $199.73 for the initial evaluation and then charged almost $425.06 additional dollars (total paid was $624.78) for the repair/new parts and labor for a trunk latch, Incredibly disappointing. The repair shop was off Calhoun Ave in Nashville. Unfortunately since My integrity is in now question, i have included a photo of what I paid for the trunk latch repair. I just felt like others should be aware of our unfortunate experience in hopes they can avoid a similar one. We just did not ask the right questions and then were already $200 committed and disappointed it would end up costing over three times that amount. read more

I feel I need to write one here because I just can't say enough good things about Joe and the team at Phoenix. Our daughter moved to Nashville from California only three weeks before our car just up and died one day. The dashboard alerts all lit up like a Christmas tree, and after pulling over, it wouldn't even start. Well, the dealership would not even take a look for two weeks... and since nobody in our family knows a single soul in the whole state of Tennessee, we couldn't ask around for recommendations. So I ended up here on Yelp and I took a chance on Phoenix. I'm glad I did! Joe answered my call and gave me a fair estimate of the costs to take a look at the car. He even lined up a rental car for our daughter. When they didn't solve the mystery as quickly as they expected, he called and outlined the additional costs for more sleuthing (costs which were *totally* reasonable, by the way). He communicated well throughout, and I never, ever felt that I was hit with any surprise costs. He also explained things very well, without patronizing -- as a woman, I really appreciated that. Perhaps best of all, he was very accommodating about letting our daughter keep the rental car longer than originally expected, since she didn't have any other way to get to work. In the end, we needed an entirely new hybrid battery and elected not to do the repairs because it was just too expensive compared to the value of the car. While my (what used to be) mechanic quoted me $1650!!! to get my a/c to work, Phoenix Auto blew me away and saved me dearly by just fixing a leak in my ac somewhere. He also recharged it and filled the Freon back up so now I have at least one vent able to push through enough cold to be lifesaving. I mean yeah, if you really have to drive without ac the then you do. But summer is still just on the verge of the real heat and if you happen to be driving while it's 95° out with a dew point of 70° and it begins pouring down rain...you have to roll up those windows...at which point the temperature in your car can easily get up to 120°! If you're sensitive to heat already, that's just a heatstroke waiting to happen. I realize it's worst case scenario, but if that happens, and you pass out while driving, it could be a life or death situation. And the best part? He only charged me $200! I never thought my last mechanic would do something like that with me; he actually fixed a couple of things for free! But I guess he'd had enough of my fixed income status...and gave me a $1650 estimate to actually replace all three sections of the ac instead of being nice enough to just fix the leak instead of replacing everything! I want to thank Joe for all he has done. I took my car to Lexus of Nashville for a brake issue that I had. I brought the car used but, I know I have a good car. I took the car first to Lexus of Nashville for the issue. After a quick diagnostic test, I got the call that change my life. It would cost me $4762.14 to fix the issue. For those of your like me, I know a little about cars, but not a whole lot about pricing. I even asked, "Why replace something that's not broken?" The technician at the Lexus dealer stated, " because I might bring it back in two months when the pump goes out." Now here's where you need to stop using Google to look for the best of anything. Wow - what a great group of helpful, friendly people they have at Phoenix Auto! An appropriate name, I think, because when my car broke down on a road trip to Nashville, they revived it when I wasn't sure that was possible. And they did the work very quickly (within a day!) which was an enormous relief. As another reviewer mentioned, they do charge a diagnostic fee up front but I think this is fair because they do a very thorough evaluation and need to be paid for their time and expertise. You then have the opportunity to review and approve or decline each of the services/repairs they recommend. While they might be a bit more expensive than our regular auto shop back at home, they really went above and beyond to assist and reassure me in a difficult, stressful situation. Honest Auto Repair shop which is hard to come by. The protective skid plate on the bottom of my prius came loose when forging some Nashville flood weather. This casused some plastic on the bottom of my car to drag on the ground so I wanted to get it fixed immediatley before it got worse. Gage was super helpful and asked one of the technicians to help me out while I was in a pinch. Nolan was kind enough to help me after hours and get my prius back in action. The labor was conservatively quoted at an hour and they kindly reduced it to the amount of time it to to reinstall the bottom protective layer which was awesome! Needless to say I will be coming back for any other auto repair. This place is a little pricey on the labor, but they are honest about the time spent! read more
