    Strawberry Picking

We love a trip to Brown's Farm every year! It's just a 90 minute drive from Jacksonville and it's one of our favorite spots to take the kids for u-pick strawberry picking.

As far as strawberry farms go, this was lovely. The u pick farms I remember as a child were dusty, searingly hot places. Devoid of shade, flowers and anything pretty. The plants clung, wilting to the ground, vainly seeking solace from the sun's rays that pierced through everything. A layer of clay colored dirt dusted all, making you choke and cough and wish you anywhere but here. Not so, Brown's farm. My teenagers even enjoyed it (albeit grudgingly). It was a perfect Spring Day. 70 degrees with a breeze, even at 1pm. The rows of plants neat and tidy, bursting with moisture and vitality. The roadside stand was tidy and stocked high with green goodness fresh from the fields. Flowers bloomed among the rows, inviting the pickers to saunter through and find the gems resting beneath its green leaves. $1.50 a pound. We picked too much because the berries were so beautiful we were compelled to pick them, to marvel at its color, its shape, imagining how sweet they'd taste. So, if you're near Gainesville, stop by when strawberries are in season. Give your children a positive farm to table experience.

On a recent drive home from Tampa with my mom, a family friend called and let us know that Brown's farm had some fantastic strawberries available so we made a quick pit stop to grab some fruits and veggies. My mom loves to garden so she and the woman working the stand talked about what they grow, soil, etc. for a few minutes while we were there. We ended up leaving with strawberries, kale, Brussels sprouts, spinach, broccoli, and probably more. Only some strawberries and Brussels sprouts made it back to my house but the prices were good and the strawberries I've had were fantastic. This location is right off 301 and not really out of the way at all. If you're in the area, it's worth driving by to see what they've got!

The Alachua Farmers Market has quickly become one of my favorite Saturday morning stops. It's not…read morehuge, but it's packed with charm, friendly vendors, and some really great food options. I love walking around, checking out the booths, and finding new local treasures. One of my absolute musts now is a matcha drink from Honey Nitro + Cold Brew. I had never tried matcha before, but a friend recommended their version with vanilla or lavender, and oh my gosh, it was creamy, smooth, and totally addictive. I seriously didn't know I could love matcha this much! Pappa Thai's summer rolls are another go-to. They're fresh, flavorful, and honestly hit the spot every single time. Light but filling and perfect for walking around with. And I can't forget Proud Pickles, they're such a fun little stand, and I'm absolutely obsessed with their items. Sweet, tangy, spicy, you name it, they've got it. I'm giving 4 stars only because I wish there were a few more vendors but I understand Gainesville is a small town. But honestly, it's still such a lovely experience and totally worth checking out if you're in the area.

The parking is pretty easy and it seemed like there were plenty of spots, and all of the vendors I interacted with were very kind and friendly. I got a sesame bagel from BagelCorp (forgot to get a pic!) and a cherry chocolate chip scone from Voltaire, and both were pretty yummy and not too expensive. I'll definitely be back!
