On Dec 28th, my landlord/roommate's furnace was looked at by NJNG, she had her yearly maintenance scheduled with them, and the tech told her that her furnace(we live in a mobile home...) was dangerous as the heater exchange was cracked, and he redflagged it..so we were without heat. My landlord decided to contact her warranty company,they sent out the most obnoxious guy who said NJNG did not know what they were talking about and he claimed he fixed it. Two days later the furnace rattled, whistled and popped. So again our heat had to be turned off. Then the warranty co had these two guys who didn't speak English, did not know where to look for the problem, and promptly said, "no good".I, in frustration went on my FB page, saw Brown's Heating, Cooling and Plumbing and wrote them explaining the situation. That SAME day, I got a response from Doug Brown who put me in touch with Paul Keator, who then came over THAT afternoon, and looked at it and agreed with NJNG....he told us we could have a new furnace in 2 days, which as of today has come true. Their quote and cost was even $1000 less than NJNG's quote. The techs came at 9am this morning, they were professional, courteous and very knowledgeable. Did Brown's come over and misdiagnose the problem and solution several times and leave me and my family without heat and hot water for a week in March? Yes. They also charged a cleaning fee on a part that needed replacing. When I went in person to ask for a refund for the cleaning fee they said they would take care of it. I never heard from them again. I had to make a claim with my CC but since nothing was itemized in the receipt I could not get the cleaning fee back. The total job that I paid for was about $1900. My hot water heater installed 6 months ago by Browns started to leak. I called for service on Sunday. The service contract I paid for was a joke- no plumber on Sunday. Have been referred to a third company and still waiting for a Monday appointment. Find a new company- after 20 years using Briwns this is how loyal customers are treated. So sad read more

Figured out the problem, fixed it, and charged a very reasonable fee for the service call. We discussed replacement options in case it breaks again, since the unit is over 10 years old. Our thermostat indicated that our Carrier AC was not working- Carrier listed Brown's as an authorized agency for repairs. Our usual technicians ( another company who we had a contract with) could not come for 10 days during our recent severe heat spell. Browns came the same day and made repair ( clogged drain) in a few minutes. We now have a contract with Browns. And we see their truck in our neighborhood on a regular basis. read more

I was referred to Browns by a friend after ending our long association with another well know Heating/Plumbing firm in the area. I called to request a repair for a furnace that was not working. The agent was friendly and helpful. The first availability was a few days away, but a slot opened up in their schedule and they ended up coming out a few hours after my call. It was a simple repair to a (very) old furnace which they took care of immediately. The price was reasonable and I very much appreciated that they didn't try to upsell me, or raise any concerns about the age of the furnace (the usual tactic of their competitor). Beware!!! Do not do business with this company as they are deceiving and will not stand behind their work! Should something go wrong with the service they provide they will deflect your calls, promise to call back and will not do so. It took me over a month and at least half a dozen calls to get them to refund a part they installed that didn't work. Furthermore, they only refunded a portion of the cost and claimed that $240 was for labor. When confronted, they rationalized the $240 by stating their service people had to come to my residence several times (15 minutes to confirm the part didn't work and another 10 minutes to retrieve the part). When speaking with them they tried to blame me for getting another contractor to complete the work. Will never do business with this unethical and dishonest company again! read more

Brown's Plumbing was great. Made an appointment for Tuesday, they called us Monday and said they had a cancellation, so we took it. We were having issues with our toilet constantly running and a leaky faucet. Prior plumber said we needed a new toilet and new sink faucet. Last year I had a slow leak in my main water pipe leading into my unit. I used to use Brown's for over 10+ years and they used to be fair regarding their pricing but took a left turn along the wait. The two fools they sent to give me a quote for the repair was $2,300. They told me I had to have my water heater removed to get to the elbow that was leaking, I said to myself time to lose these crooks. I called another plumber and he said there was no problem to sweat on a new elbow and he went ahead with the work and the whole bill was $375, quite a bit less than Brown's, almost $2,000! At one time, they were an OK company. This is no longer true. They couldn't fix a leak in a kitchen sink. Should be plumbing 101, right? Not only are they inept, when I asked them to return and fix the problem, they made me wait 5 days for an appointment, then NEVER SHOWED UP. When I called back, they said soonest they could now come is an additional 4 days. I complained until I was transferred to Silvia, who offered to send someone in 2 days "if you want to pay a surcharge". WTF, right. I called to have an ac issue looked at and the very rude girl that picked up the phone informed me that they are no longer taking new customers. the fact that I live about a mile or so from them and was told a few weeks ago to call back if the problem persisted didn't seem to matter. so just to be clear ... If possible I would not give any stars. After 19 years of being a loyal customer we are saying goodbye to Browns. They had amazing customer service until a few years ago. I am fairly confident they had a management change. It is not easy to schedule a Maintance appointment pre season, and if you are lucky enough to score an appointment in season- they change them without any notice or notification to the homeowner, disregarding our schedule. I only found out when Browns failed to show up after their scheduled time. Person answering phone is beyond rude and overtalked myself and my husband. When asked to speak to the manager, she said he would not get on the phone nor would he return my call. When I asked his name she said Chris, would not give last name and said that he didn't care if we discontinued our service with them, and then hung up on me. I had an annual contract with Browns for preventative maintenance and for priority if an emergency occurred. Multiple times I was cancelled on the day of the appointment often without any notice. Very unprofessional and the worst customer service that I have ever experienced from a service provider. Very sad for a business that prides itself on being a mom & pop shop that cares for their customers. Browns has helped me out if many situations. My furnace went in December, I was frozen! The team at Browns had a technician out promptly to diagnosis my problem, unfortunately my furnace has seen better days and had to be replaced. I wasn't surprised, it had been past it's due date for some time. The team at Browns was quick and efficient in replacing the unit and immaculate with the remaining cleanup..... the next year it was a problem with my AC. Brown does not back up their work. I had some work done, and the plumber said they backed up the work, then when I asked them to fix something that was not done correctly, they still charged me for the labor. The original plumber was no longer employed, so clearly he had not done great work, so they should have fixed it for free. In addition, the company hung up on me when I asked them to explain why. Took off from work for a scheduled heating certification appointment which I had to schedule approximately 2 weeks in advance because of limited availability. The appointment was scheduled between Noon and 3pm. No technician arrived within the scheduled time period. Called the office at approximately 3:30pm asking if the technician was delayed etc. Person in the office said that they would send over the next available technician. Technician called my phone at approximately 4:30pm saying that they would be at my house around 5pm which was a message that I did not receive until approximately 5:45pm. Called the technician and the call went to voicemail. Called the office back looking for update and was told that I had reached the answering service but they would leave a message and someone would get back to me. Waited one hour, no response and called the technician again and left another voicemail. Called the office again and was connected to the answering service again and which point I was told not to expect a call until the following day as they were closed and I shouldn't expect to hear anything until the following day. I was quite annoyed at this point and ended up spamming the technician's phone. Technician finally picked up the phone after several rings and he advised me that because I didn't pick up the phone in the window when he called that it was assumed I was not available and thus they cancelled my appointment. Went back and forth several times about how annoyed I was given that I had called the office asking where they were and because I wasn't sitting by my cell phone it was assumed I wasn't there. At no point prior to this was I told that I needed to answer the phone 30 minutes before arrival that I was ready for this previously scheduled appointment. Eventually, I had to call and reschedule the appointment turned into that the technician could fit me in the following day but only because I was persistent on the phone. I tried to be understanding that the technician was running behind schedule because it is hot outside and I imagine most HVAC techs are needed for emergencies, however, I totally got screwed. If you have a scheduled appointment with this company I recommend you harass them if they are running behind schedule or else they just might not show up. read more

I had a few companies out to recommend and quote the fix for the AC. Turns out I didn't have to invest nearly half as much as I thought I would. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! Last week we had a maintenance check up on our air conditioner. We were told that everything was fine with our air conditioner. The tech recommended that we would need more freon but we would be able to make it the rest of this year and that we should add the freon in April (8 months from date of service). Today the air conditioner is not working. We called the company and were told that they would charge us $200 to come look at it because it was after 5:00. We explained that this was only an emergency because their technician did not detect the problem last week. Had a problem been detected we would have fixed it then. They refused to acknowledge this and insisted that they would only come tonight for $200. As we continued to make our case that it was their tech's negligence that lead to the emergency the person I was speaking with hung up on me. read more

Very pleased with Brown's service. Lost heat on a Monday evening, and we called Brown's on Tuesday morning before New Years Eve. They explained that they were booked all day, but they would try to call us after 2pm and squeeze us in. We were very happy when a repair person called in the afternoon and said he was on his way. He was very professional and wore a mask. Unfortunately, he had to order a part. On Thursday, the part came in and the repair person returned to install it. It turned out there was a problem with another part, so the repair person left, but returned an hour later and was able to successfully finish the install. We were so grateful that they were able to make the repair before New Years. When they thought they weren't going to finish the install, they offered to bring us heaters!
