We returned from a vacation to find our heating system had stopped working while we were away. Temperature in the house was at 43 degrees. I called Rostron and was advised a technician would be there between 9 and 10 that morning. But, at 8:10 Evan called and said he would there in 10 minutes. He arrived and proceeded to diagnose the problem with our older system. He spent some time working all aspects of the unit and discovered the problem was in the part of the system removing water from the humidifier. He was able to flush it and get us heat in a short amount of time. We were veery pleased with Evan's professionalism and dedication to correcting our problem. I noticed water in the basement near my HVAC system. I called Rostron since they were local. They did come out that day and determined the cause was a frozen drain . He asked if I had another drain that the tubing could be run to . I said there is a bathroom above the basement 30 ft away. There is a closet with a 4 inch drain coming vertically through the closet . His suggestion was to disconnect the drain and put it in a bucket until the weather warmed . This was last week when the weather was very cold . He also mentioned getting a plumber to move the drain to a drain pipe. For what ever reason he never went to look at the pipes I referred to. One other thing I didn't mention he did attempt to blow compressed air into the drain but it didn't work . My issue is the cost of the service was 407.00 for approximately 1 hr of service. That is an exorbitant amount as far as I'm concerned, especially when no repair was accomplished. I also was unaware that his company also does plumbing so why didn't he suggest moving the hose to a drain that day. I called a small HVAC/plumbing company in Brick he came out ran the hose to the closet , installed a P-Trap into the drain , the cost 375.00 . And yes he's Licensed. YOU be the Judge.. I have two units, both were running fine. Rostron called to schedule a PM service. once complete the 1 unit no longer worked and the electronic thermostat had an error message. The tech said it was the internet. Tech said the unit was old and gas pressure was low. He recommends a new unit. called Rostron saying the unit no longer works after their tech - they sent a second tech. he turned off the error message and stated again the unit is low on gas. Rostron quoted $18k for new unit. I called a second company. he took off the shroud and said immediately - "there is your issue" someone crimped the gas line and it had a hole in it. the gas was not low - there was NO gas. He repaired the valve - filled with gas - back to normal. It took two calls to Rostron management for them to return my call - their response - anyone could have done it. Second company also recommended to replace the unit soon - as it is not running efficiently - due to age.. scheduled a replacement - at $6k cheaper - not with Rostron read more

IF you need to leave a message should you call when office hours are closed they will get back to you via a phone call as soon as possible. When the technicians enter your home their shoes are coved to keep your floors protected. They do show-up on time and if there is any delay they will call you immediately. Their technicians explain what they need to do, why you need those services, and give you a price for the work. On 12/8/21 Rostron installed a Lochinvar combi unit that they had in stock. Nothing but trouble the last two years. Has a ten year warranty for single family homes. One year warranty for commercial Which we are. Was never told this by salesman. They have come at least ten times to fix problems. They are part changers which were very costly. None of the techs could figure it out. This is there product they recommended and they didn't even store parts at there location. I asked several times to talk to owner with no response. This company is professional knowledgeable dependable and affordable. They made the process of getting a new boiler as easy as possible. From the first phone call with Suzanne who was patient and listened and knew exactly what I needed and explained what would come next. Rick the technician was at our house in 2 days to assess what was going on with the boiler. He spent time with me showing me what was going on as well as explaining everything to me. Josh the project manager came the next day to take measurements and give us suggestions what would work best for us for our needs. We had an estimate in a few hours giving all the specifications of two different boilers allowing us to make the best decision. He was also so helpful in answering all of our questions regarding those estimates. The decision was made and within one week Randy and Roland were there to install our new boiler. It was a very cold day for both of them but they got the job done in one day for us so that we would have heat that night. The day began with a flood in my basement. I rent out the home so my tenants needed to be immediately satisfied. My mother had always said that if I were in a jam with heating/cooling I should call Tom Rostron which I did immediately. I cannot say enough good things about Tom Rostron Co. My husband and I had them in for an estimate on heating and cooling solutions for a sunroom which was not a part of our original home. The initial contact with the front office was friendly and responsive. John from sales was punctual, communicative, and understanding of my request for masking as I have a high risk Dad. (I find so many contractors are not, and it's disturbing when we are still in a pandemic). He gave us the options, and didn't steer us toward the higher cost option at all. We went with the lower cost, extending the current ductwork, but we were under a time crunch as we are scheduled for whole house painting in a week. John managed to get it done! He even came by with the installer, Shawn, to show him the layout so we didn't have to (much appreciated as both my husband and I are working from home). Our home had a dated AC system in need of repair. We reached out to Tom Rostron who immediately came to access our needs. Their knowledgeable salesman gave detailed information allowing us to make the right decision to purchase a new system rather than pouring money into the old system. After expert installation, the new system was not as comfortable as we preferred. The owner, salesman and engineer came to assess the problem and it was decided the system should be replaced for better compatibility. The replacement was a better fit and our home is wonderfully comfortable. The owner is highly educated on the systems, their function and manufacturing. Needless to say, when we were in need of a completely new system including ductwork, supplies and returns, in our other home, Tom Rostron was there again install the new system. Our freshly painted ceiling and newly refinished floors were carefully covered by the installers to protect the improvements. This is our third new system from Tom Rostron. This company was the only company willing to come out to service our air conditioner within a day. Every other company said the wait time was one to three weeks. The temps were 100 degrees with awful humidity but they showed up as promised the next day. The individuals answering the phones were also very polite. Poor customer service, bad attitude from owner. Was recommended to me and initially had a good experience, and wanted to use them for a split system install, but multiple calls and emails went unanswered for months, despite reassurances that I'd hear back. Come to find out the estimator was injured and unable to follow up. One would think I'd get a call to reschedule or let me know. Instead the only feedback comes as snide comments like "I'm sure when XXX was in the hospital wondering if he'll walk or talk again, he wasn't taking any of your calls". Really? What a jerk. Maybe a 'our bad, we had an unprecedented tragedy and I'm sure you understand'. And yeah, I would, who wouldn't? Understandable how a trauma like that could cause u to overlook those customers, but come on, don't go passive aggressive and try to use your employee's accident as an excuse. read more

Yet another 5 star review for Tom Rostron Co. Why? Because they are that good; I'll explain. Sometime in November '16 I decided I needed a new Heating A/C system. My wife asks me why, to which I reply it's over 20 years old and you know the air is going to crap out in August when it's 97°. I call it being proactive, she calls me anal. Anyway I talk her into it and we got three estimates from local HVAC places; all rated well. Estimates were close. All came in less than $1000 of each other but Bill S, salesman at Rostron, asked if I heard of NJ's Energy Star Program. I said sure. Isn't that the outfit that puts a yellow label on your fridge to calculate energy usage? Yes and no.To sum it up NJ has the most liberal (more than California) rebate system in the nation. So if you qualify for this program NJ cuts you a check for $4k. There's a few things that you have to have done to qualify but basically here's how it works. You have to get a contractor who is certified in installing Energy Star systems; Rostron was the only outfit I got estimates that would do it. You need to install a 96% efficient heater, 16 SEER A/C unit, Energy Star rated water heater, and have your house completely insulated; includes fiberglass batts, and blown in cellulose roof only. Bill's price included a 50 gal water heater, and house humidifier. It just so happens my old water heater which was working fine was over 16 years old so I figure it didn't have long to go so I went with the program. I only had to pay $3600 out of pocket plus New Jersey Natural Gas Co. is giving me a 7 year $10k loan for the balance of the cost at 0% interest. It comes to $188/month tacked on to my gas bill. For me it was a no brainer. The men who installed the hardware were Rob, Randy & Jim. They had many unforeseen problems but handled it professionally and it was fantastic to have them here. These guys know what they are doing, were polite and quite friendly, and explained everything along the way. The insulation guys, Conner and James were equally proficient and a pleasure to talk to. When done I looked over their work and everything was neat as a pin. Wires and pipes laid out in orderly fashion; a great job. By the way when the plumbing inspector came by after the system was installed I asked him what he thought. He said, "It was great work, who did it?" I told him and he said, I'm not surprised. They don't do a lot of work in Howell but what work I've seen has been very good. Yes, they are that good. read more

I wish there were a way to leave a negative star review. I have been dealing with Tom Rostron for over ten years and I have had two heating systems installed by his company in separate homes. Rostron's billing practice of flat rate billing is absolutely absurd. They charged me $200 to install a less than $20 part for approximately 20 minutes of work. When I questioned the exorbitantly high labor cost, I was told by the office manager Mike that there is a lot to running their business. Most recently they came to service my heating system and gave me an all clear. Two weeks later my system isn't working and Tom Rostron is refusing to finish the job because I gave them a negative Google review. My advise to anyone who reads this, go elsewhere. Tom Daley set an appointment at my convenience and provided me with an informative assessment of my needs. Tom provided (3) proposals depending on the the level of performance I expected and cost. Tom was courteous and informative and did not "hard sell" me. This is exceeded the level of service I had hoped for. Had this company replace the heating system. They did good work, were pleasant, and tolerated my dog, all of which was appreciated. A word of caution, like all similar companies, they tout the rebate from the State. What they don't tell you is that it takes months. been five months for us and still no word. called a couple of times, was told they would 'check the portal' never heard any thing further. if you factored in the rebate to cover the cost of the job, you will be disappointed. It's not quite bait and switch, but is disingenuous to promote the rebate in the quote, and withhold the fact that it takes months, and maybe never comes. read more

This week during several days of high heat. We had our AC go down. We called Tom Rostron and they came out within 48 hours. When the tech inspected the system he deemed the problem was dirty coils. The actual work that was done. Was to possibly use a solvent to loosen the dirt then use our hose to spray off the dirt from the coils. The cost for this simple task was a jaw dropping $550. $90 for the service call and $460 to hose down the coils. I'm not an HVAC tech but I'm pretty darn sure this type of work does not warrant this type of cost. Now i could of possibly accepted this cost if the work that was done actually fixed the problem. Well it did not. We called them that night to tell them. There answer was its so hot wait until morning to see if it worked. Which of corse it did not. So we placed another call and the following day a tech came and rechecked the system. He claimed it needed 2 pounds of refrigerant. That was going to be another $350 cost for us. Since we already paid an enormous amount of money for absolutely zero results. We declined service and took our business elsewhere. The second company came and told us it needed 6 pounds of refrigerant to meet the proper specs based on the equipment we have. This company charged $400 and now is working like brand new. Needless to say. I will never ever even think about calling Tom Rostron for any heating or AC needs. read more

Phenomenal service from the Tom Rostron team! Shawn and Christian replaced our 20+ years old A/C system with a whole new system and new ductwork during a 90-degree July heatwave in NJ in only 2 days! For years we postponed and looked for a trustworthy, reliable heating/cooling company since moving to the Shore and finally found Tom Rostron Co based on my friend's rave reviews and long-time experience. When our A/C handler failed last month during a June heatwave, STEVE our Technician (highly knowledgeable, extremely neat, and excellent troubleshooter) replaced the broken part, but we knew our old system was on borrowed time and could die any minute.
