Joe, the owner, is very kind and hard-working...he handles cleaning, cooking, yardwork (a huge lot that would take someone minimum one full day a week to take care of), greeting and guest check-in, and accounting for a 200-year-old building with six or seven rental rooms. It's an impossible task for one person, and that's clearly reflected in the property's cluttered and only lightly cleaned appearance both inside and out. Our two room "suite" was very dusty. Out of season holiday decor, stuffed animals and character decor are out of place in this historic home. The listing photos and website are quite outdated and don't show the current state. With some additional help and TLC, this place could be wonderful again.

The worker in the breakfast area was often gone or in the back room with the door closed. We had a group of family staying with us and everyone had issues no matter the time of the morning we ate. The carpet in our rooms were heavily stained. The shower curtain rod bent in several of our rooms and water went on the floor as a result. Toilet paper holders were broken. Each of us got a parking fee for each night we stayed, even though some of us car pooled. It was an automatic room charge. None of us were asked to report our car info and license plate.

Looking forward to using the pool which is one of the reasons why I booked this hotel when I showed up the pool was not working the next day it was completely drained. I brought this up to the general manager who by the way was very short with me and when I brought this up he said that he would refund me the remaining portion of my bill Also, this is the same time when BTS is having a concert at merriweather so every single hotel was completely booked. He understood this and still that was our only option that he presented. After some much much back and forth. I tried to come up with ideas like why don't you just call a neighboring hotel that's part of Hilton and let us use their pool and compensate us with something but he was not willing to budge at all. In fact, he gave us one free night certificate even though it affected all three parties equally. I don't understand this logic and I still don't. I even called Hilton corporate. They could not answer that question either didn't make sense. They agreed with me but at the same time they said only the general manager can handle this. Obviously I'm never going to stay here again and I would warn others about this. If you're going to stay at a Hampton inn stay at the other Hampton inn. I've never had a problem. I'm a loyal Hyatt hotel member and this is exactly why I stay with Hyatt.

I was especially impressed that one of the staff heard that our car needed a jump and proactively tried to assist. That really meant a lot!! You must follow the signs to avoid ending up in the banquet area. My review though is strictly on a staycation escape that was a complete flop for me. This hotel has a few local events so I thought why not do a random bight here to check it out. This way I can see if I'd want to plan a date night or family getaway pending on the experience. I lived in Ellicott City years ago and was excited to be nearby some old favorites and had a plan to just recharge. Well jokes on me, I barely slept 3 hours. The rooms are a bit dated and the products are the type to pull all moisture out of your skin. However, the pillows were fluffy and the ac functional. The lights by both sides of the bed did not work. I couldn't tell if it was electrical issue or need of new bulbs. When I decided to call it a night I closed the curtains and attempted to turn off the lights. Well they have an "emergency" light between bathroom and bed area that stays on. This is the size if an ace vent cover. Fully illuminating and a nightmare for someone light sensitive. Several failed attempts to block it and I was ready to depart. Well it was a heavy downpour of rain and 1 in the morning. After tossing and turning a few hours when the sun came up, I checked out. I should mention I was not able to charge my phone. I tried to get a different cord, but the outlet did not seem to want to work for a fast charger. It's not a bad facility, but a bit neglected and could use a renovation. I'd much rather come for an activity and uber home then to expect a restful night here. Notes: You can bring a pet under 75lbs, but only if you note it will never be in room alone and pay 100.00 fee. I hope they install lights that are motion sensored versus on nonstop. It's a small change that would go a long way. Then to check outlets in the property in this day and age of technology. While trying to…read morestock up a few stays to achieve gold status, I came across this gem not too far from my residence. It's not far the main road. Remember, this hotel is in the cut. I arrived a bit after 4 p.m., and I was fortunate enough to park by the door. Again, because it's in the cut, I was concerned about my car and my valuables. I later confirmed with the staff that there was no history of theft, but vandalism that happened a long time ago. When I first walked into the hotel, all I saw was a lot of nice open space. It was quiet and very clean inside. I met a pleasant young man who greeted me as soon as he saw me. I gave him my info, and he had me checked in within 3 minutes. From there, he gave me 2 warm cookies and 2 waters. I politely said no to the water because I only drink Fiji or Deer Park. He pointed me to the elevators, so I took my luggage and started walking. From there, I pulled out my camera and started taking pics. The inside reminds me of a very nice Embassy Suites. My room was wayyyyyy down the hall, but it was cool cause I needed the exercise. My room was a King Junior Suite, which was big enough for me. The pull out couch made it comfortable. The room had 2 large tvs, and the sofa bed area had double doors to separate the other part of the room for privacy. This room needs a microwave. However, there is a fridge and coffee maker. My room was near the indoor pool, so my assumption of a sterile and bleach smelling room was the chlorine from the pool. My room was clean, though. The pool closed at 10 pm, so I had to listen to splashing waters, yelling and Beyonce for a few hours. I'm good with that. Lastly, this bed. I am glad that DoubleTree decided to pick a bed that's more on the firm side. I was at the Embassy Suites 6 days prior, and the bed was soooo soft that it was uncomfortable. Not even my normal 6 pillow routine helped any. The main question is whether I'd book again or not. My answer is yes. I will and it will be soon. The staff is wonderful here. I forgot about the breakfast. I got the $16.95 deal instead of the $11.95 continental breakfast. It opened at 6 on weekends, and I was down there by myself, and no guests were there. The food was fine. It's your typical sausage, bacon, regular or cheese eggs, and regular potatoes or the ones with onions and peppers in them. Lastly, you had a choice of pancakes or French Toast. Overall, the breakfast was fine. The staff made it better. They deserved the extra tip. Check out this hotel!

This was, without question, the worst hospitality experience I have ever had…read more On March 31, 2026, I booked and fully prepaid over $1,500 for a King room for July 17-20 through Expedia. Due to unforeseen circumstances, we arrived one day late, at approximately 2:30 p.m. on July 18. When we arrived, I was told that the hotel had marked our reservation as a "no-show" and given away our room, despite having already confirmed our stay on Expedia. What is particularly frustrating is that no one from the hotel attempted to contact me or Expedia before canceling and reselling a reservation that had been paid for in full. Throughout the entire weekend I was supposed to be staying there, my Expedia reservation still showed as active and so was unable to get a refund for the insurance portion of my payment. I understand that the hotel may have considered us a no-show. However, I find it extremely difficult to understand why a fully prepaid reservation would be canceled without making even a basic attempt to contact the guest or the booking agency. If a hotel chooses to accept reservations through third-party sites such as Expedia, guests who use those services should receive the same level of consideration and professionalism as guests who book directly. Unfortunately, the way the situation was handled made me feel as though our reservation mattered less simply because we had booked through Expedia. I was repeatedly told to contact Expedia and that the hotel would do nothing to help. One employee even smirked while telling me this. The lack of empathy was incredibly disappointing. When I asked what we were supposed to do, given that every hotel, motel, and other lodging option within roughly 18 miles appeared to be sold out, no meaningful assistance was offered. I stood at the front desk quietly crying while politely asking for help, and no one made any real effort to find a solution. One young woman at the front desk was genuinely kind and compassionate, and I appreciated her treating me like a human being during an extremely stressful situation. Unfortunately, that was not representative of the overall experience. I have significant health issues and had been looking forward to this trip for a long time, and instead we were forced to stay at the only property we could find, in an area where the hotel itself was gated because of safety concerns in the surrounding neighborhood. I did not feel comfortable staying there, but we had no other choice. What makes this even more frustrating is that when I later checked this hotel's website, rooms were still showing as available. That reinforced my feeling that this situation could have been handled very differently. This was not simply a matter of a policy being applied. It was the complete lack of communication, empathy, and willingness to help that made this experience so upsetting. Policies are one thing, but basic customer service should not disappear when something goes wrong. Afterward, I looked through the hotel's other reviews and was disappointed to find similar complaints from other guests. That makes me concerned that this may be a recurring issue rather than an isolated mistake. I sincerely hope management takes a serious look at how prepaid third-party reservations are handled and, just as importantly, how guests are treated when problems arise. No guest should spend over $1,500 on a fully paid reservation and leave feeling dismissed, embarrassed, and completely abandoned. I would not recommend this hotel based on my experience.

I asked for an upgraded room as a platinum member but the clerk said they had nothing. Also I had to ask for the platinum welcome gift. She did not offer it. The public areas were clean and perhaps a bit worn. The suite itself was large with a fireplace - that was a first and nice given the weather. The bathroom was the big negative.
