My wife got a flat tire yesterday, and my stupid self didn't realize her car (and my car) didn't have a spare.

I had an absolutely horrible experience with Route 66 Towing LLC in Pontiac. We called them Sunday…read moremorning after I accidentally locked my keys in my car at Walmart. We had no spare key or way home, so we paid $156 over the phone for a lockout service. When the employee arrived, he used an air wedge and long-reach tool to try to unlock the car. He was having difficulty getting it open and was pulling hard on the inside driver's door handle with the tool. While doing this, the soft rubber protector on the end of the tool flew off onto my driver's seat, and the exposed tool slapped back with heavy force into the upper driver's-side area of my windshield. We then noticed a large crack coming from the same area where the tool had hit. I immediately pointed it out to my boyfriend while the employee was still there. My windshield was completely intact before this service. I also have multiple timestamped photos, including pictures from about a week beforehand, clearly showing the windshield undamaged. We called Route 66 within about 30 to 45 minutes afterward and explained what happened. The owner immediately argued that it wasn't possible for the windshield to have been damaged that way. After speaking with her employee, she called us back and said he denied damaging it. She agreed to meet us at their shop the following morning. She was late, and when she arrived, the interaction became extremely unprofessional. She raised her voice, repeatedly talked over us, accused us of potentially lying, and kept insisting there was nothing we could prove because we didn't have a video showing the exact second the windshield cracked. My boyfriend repeatedly tried to explain that we understand accidents happen and that we weren't trying to get anything for free. We were perfectly willing to pay the $156 because they did unlock the car. We simply wanted the windshield returned to the condition it was in before their service. Her only proposed "compromise" was refunding the $156 lockout fee instead of addressing the windshield. During the conversation, she told us we must be mentally incapable of understanding her and even told my boyfriend that if one of her guys were there, they would beat him up. We eventually stopped arguing and asked for their insurance information so the insurance company could investigate. She initially wouldn't provide it and repeatedly told us our claim would be denied. She eventually gave us the name of an insurance agency and agent rather than the actual insurer. We later obtained the correct insurance information ourselves, and a claim is now open. As we were leaving, she even made an irrelevant comment about us "probably being liberals." The entire interaction was bizarre and incredibly unprofessional. Accidents happen. My biggest issue is how this was handled afterward. My windshield was intact beforehand, we noticed the damage during their service, and we simply wanted them to professionally address it and allow their insurance company to investigate. Instead, we were accused of lying, insulted, threatened, and had to push just to obtain insurance information. I have timestamped before-and-after photos and will be providing everything to their insurance company. Based on my experience, I would not use Route 66 Towing again and would not recommend them.

I'll give 5 stars for the service and 1 star for the process…read more At 67 years old, I've probably needed Roadside Assistance 5 times in my life, which included a bad one from AAA where they said my policy expired & I'm holding their card with a good date (15+ years ago). This wasn't a good experience, but it ended well.... I'm glad my battery died at home. I can't picture being on that cell phone on the road. The request, by phone, is all done with a computer voice.... and didn't always seem to understand me. so annoying; wished for a human. I did not get the text I was supposed to at the time 12:15pm (it came minutes after I completed the request). By the way, at the end the voice said, "Say Submit to request service." So twice, I tried to say that and it wasn't accepted. Then I simply said "Submit" and it was accepted. There's a different in the way it's said: "Say Submit to request service." ...I took this literally and said all the words. Say "Submit" to request service. ... This is how it's meant to be. Does that make me stupid? lol At the end, when it's approved, there was no proof or confirmation number... (The eventual text showed my Roadside Request Reference # as: my cell number!) After waiting 15 minutes, at 12:30, fearful it wasn't accepted, I submitted it again through my pc which was so much easier... of course, it resulted in 2 separate submissions... but I wasn't happy where the original choices seemed to be charge battery OR tow. They're separate entities where if the battery can't be charged, I then have to call & wait for a tow!  I would have preferred the tow, but... When I heard the battery guy was 20 minutes away and the tow guy called, I cancelled the tow in the hope the battery would get charged. A guy shows up in a "car" (never saw that before) and steps out, simply, with a portable battery charger. Luckily, it charged up right away & I drove to my mechanic for a new battery. At some point, I'm going to get a different Roadside plan.

I requested roadside assistance through my State Farm insurance, and because we live in a more remote area outside of Bend, Oregon, finding an appropriate place to take the vehicle became much more complicated than it ever should have been. When we tried to change the destination because the original location was closed and arrange to have the vehicle taken into Bend to Les Schwab, the roadside-assistance process became incredibly frustrating. We ultimately ended up canceling the service through State Farm and paying the tow driver directly just to get the situation taken care of. The one bright spot in this entire experience was Robert Hamilton with Under Tow. Robert was absolutely incredible. His professionalism, patience, kindness, communication, and customer service were outstanding. He went above and beyond to help us through a situation that had already taken hours and become unnecessarily stressful. Robert treated us like people, not just another service call. He genuinely cared about getting us and our vehicle taken care of, and that made all the difference. While I was extremely disappointed with the roadside-assistance experience itself, State Farm is very fortunate to have someone like Robert on their towing provider list. He represented the kind of customer service I had hoped to receive from the beginning. Robert, thank you for turning an incredibly frustrating day into a much better experience. You are an absolute asset to Under Tow, and I would recommend you Robert without hesitation. As for both side assistance through State Farm, I will probably hardly ever use you again with this negative experience.

Was a very bad experience.. the person that came out was either inexperienced didn't give a darn or combination of the both. He took some tool that looked like a hanger with a hook, and he kept jabbing it between my drivers door trying to unlock my car to get the keys. He scratched, pushed, pulled in such a way that I asked him to stop. I could hear him scratching my car. I asked him to stop the service call and I advised AllState of the unsatisfactory services as well as what I believed to be damages. it was pouring rain. I wanted in my car, but I didn't want to have the damages that I felt. I was incurring the way Holts Representative was miss using the tool. AllState sent me out another lockout service provider. The contrast in the two companies is like night and day. they got in my car within a matter of minutes and the guy showed me all the scratches that the other guy put on my car as I had anticipated. in the claims process, AllState was as bad as Holts. little to no investigation and just took Holts's word that they did not do any damages. Why in the world with a senior lady in the pouring down rain? Tell the guy servicing her car to gain entry to stop if he was not damaging the car.? The other provider was premier towing. I could not sing their praises loud enough.. conclusion if you see Holts coming around the corner run! Still in the process of trying to hold them accountable. Unfortunately, they are not being forthright and accepting the damages that that were incurred by their representative.
