Rented two nights, no customer service and we're constantly being harassed by staff. Old man next door had a room next to ours with a door on it. My wife did not feel safe, knowing the man could just open the door and walk in. The foreign Russian made harass my wife and I as we were trying to check out. I feel like they just pick on tourists.

First thing's first…read more What a wonderful getaway. QUIET. It is you, your spouse if you brought em, and nature. The pool area is fabulous, nice and cool and a salt pool. Plenty of seating everywhere. The kitchen and first floor is to die for. There are a couple of screened in porches with more comfortable seating. Took a great nap during a storm, serenaded by the rain fall. Each room has its own bathroom. MJ is a fine host. He'll make you breakfast each morning, plenty of good strong coffee, plenty of good conversation. What a life, entertaining total strangers each and every day. Then going about your day as leisurely as you wish. About 20 minutes from shopping in downtown Cape Charles. This is a GEM, folks.

When I arrived I went straight to my room and dropped off my luggage then roamed around the property. I felt extremely safe at that moment and for the rest of my stay. The property from the moment we turned onto the driveway was breath taking. I sat on the porch waiting for my friend to arrive. Upon her arrival she was also impressed and so happy we chose to stay here. The rooms were great. I was at Cobb Island. Roomy bathroom, air conditioner window unit, ceiling fan, large windows, comfortable bedding and a curtain to draw in front of the door for added privacy. My friend stayed in the Rogue Island suite. There was no air conditioner in the room but two fans available. The sun comes shining into that room heavily in the morning. Nice view of the water. Bathroom is a little small, but perfect for one. The room itself is perfect for one, maybe two if it's a short stay. My friends words on her stay: "The room was smaller, but comfortable and perfect if we weren't planning on spending too much time. It wasn't too small, just smaller -perfect for a single occupancy. The grounds were gorgeous and I appreciated the hands off approach. The company in the morning was lovely. I loved all of the different amenities and areas of the house we had access to to suit our needs. Breakfast in the morning was simple and perfect. The first morning was this amazing quiche.... Hoping to get that recipe to add to my cookbook, sliced strawberries and coffee. The second morning was a scrumptious banana bread, sliced strawberries and a simply seasoned fried egg. It was all delightful. You have access to the kitchen whenever you want. We brought lunch back and ate it outside. There is a fire pit out back you can use. Some notes: there are some fine tuning things that could be taken care of by a grounds keeper or anyone else. Trimming back the foliage going down to the dock, spraying for bees in the white covered "shed" near the water, clearing leaves from the pool, replacing burnt light bulbs and a major dusting inside and outside, especially outside on all the porches. Otherwise it was very clean. In the end we enjoyed our stay and look forward to stay again!! I'm easy to book again.

We were booked into the inn by a client who wanted to make our first visit to Suffolk a memorable one. The home is a true Southern belle - a grand dame of historic mansions. It has been so lovingly restored and is perfectly appointed. We had so much fun exploring every inch of the home and absorbing its character. The proprietor (and very talented chef) Ruth has mastered the art of hospitality, inviting us to truly make the home our own. She didn't mind one bit that we planted ourselves in the reclining leather chairs in the stately octagonal library with another couple and yakked enthusiastically until the wee hours. After a blissful night sleep, breakfast the following morning was a marvelous affair. We prepped a coffee for ourselves at the Nespresso machine (fantastic!) and meandered around the grounds until the heavenly smell of baking croissants lured us to the elegant, light-filled breakfast room. Usually an eat-and-run proposition for us, we lingered for over an hour enjoying the delectable food and the conversation with the other guests. The charm of the house and its gracious owner had worked its magic - we were refreshed, satiated and inspired. We departed with great reluctance but the spirit of the Truitt house hung about us for the rest of the day and onto the next as we traveled home. The mansion, built long ago, has been restored and updated in every category. I've stayed at lots of B&Bs to find them "charming but in need of modern updates." This place has that without losing its original charm from 1909. Because I'm here for work, I'm purposely spending all my time at the house when not on location and I love to be able to move from study to library to the atrium and other rooms in order to read and for a change of atmosphere. Every room is unique and has a story. You'll love Ruth who will make your stay feel like you've come home to the family estate. Breakfast is made to order and she loves knowing what you like. Casual and comfy. Two words to describe the experience in this amazing, palatial mansion.

Microwaves were located at the end of the hall, so it was easy to heat food, which I appreciated. Disliked -------- The room service menu only had sandwich items; nothing really substantial was offered. This was disappointing when I first arrived, exhausted and just wanting to get food to the room before seeing everyone in my conference group. Or when we wrapped up and I'd had a very long day of interaction. The last thing I wanted was to be in a restaurant. It would be nice if they had plastic utensils near the microwave. I know this would be just a luxury, but I had to walk all the way to the main building to ask the actual restaurant for utensils because their room service said they didn't have any either. Spa prices were pretty high I'd requested the shuttle to my departing flight the night before, and although they'd confirmed, they did not "have room" for me on the van in the morning. This was very frustrating, and I was full of anxiety about it. While asking me to wait, no one acknowledged my concern, nor did they let me know what the plan was to correct it. So I got more and more nervous as time passed. The manager finally came to take me, but expressed confusion about why the driver didn't take the larger van, which would have fit me as the additional passenger.

Our host, Mike, is a history buff which played into our interests perfectly. On top of piquing my interest enough to look some corresponding topics up when home, he has a particular soft spot for General Lee. Mike also steered us in the right direction for dinner (The Oyster Farm, but that's another review!). Before leaving, Mike served us and the other two couples who were in-house (and we never heard a peep from) a fabulous breakfast that would be the fuel to the next leg of our journey up the coast. I will be writing him personally for a couple of recipes! I'm not much of an egg fan but he made a casserole that was so light and fluffy with vegetables, that I ate the whole piece and it was substantial. There was fresh fruit, tea or coffee (which is also place outside of the rooms from 6am), juice, sausage (which I AM a fan of!) and a wonderful muffin that had a name, but I don't recall. A Bay muffin, maybe? Just a spectacular send-off! We didn't have a chance to meet Sharon, but if she's as charming and knowledgeable as her husband, it was our loss!

Luckily we just caught the tail end of the sunset. So happy he worked with our late schedule with compassion. He also provided an excellent restaurant suggestion. The bedroom was clean and the room had a balcony with a great view. The shower had great water pressure. It was extremely refreshing after a long day on the road. Highly recommend
