The bartender was most unpleasant with a frown on her face the whole time. My old-fashioned was subpar. The next morning when we got up and was going to fix coffee in the room. Country Inn and Suites…read more EXERCISE ALL PRECAUTIONS WITH THIS ESTABLISHMENT!!!!! If you have any respiratory issues, take extreme precautions if you are considering staying here. The facade of manicured groundskeeping does give the impression of a decent place to stay. However, once inside, there's a truth of why I was compelled to not stay there. I booked the stay through Expedia. My reservation was scheduled for 7/23 - 7/26. None of the pictures in the app show the reality of what the rest of the hotel looks like. I arrived at the hotel 7/23 to check in. Upon the entrance of the lobby, there was a reception desk to the far left where they are stationed. Behind the desk, there is a wall on the left that has a noticeable water stain around it at the time I was checking in. The check-in process seemed okay. The manager Tracy checked me in, handed me the keys, and advised me how to access the side door number 2 to bring in my luggage. I get a porter to gather my luggage and walk through the hotel's first floor to the side door. The corridor to the side door is to the left of the lobby desk where I checked in. Once in that short corridor, you take a left to go through the hallway to get to the side door 2. Along the way, water stains on the ceiling are prevalent with irregular patches of smooth plastering and popcorn ceiling right to the door. Both finishes were stained. There was a sprinkler that had a square hole about four inches on each side cut out in the ceiling. My skin was crawling. With the help of my cousin, I get my luggage loaded on the porter, I go back inside to go up to my room on the third floor by the elevator. Upon exiting the elevator, there's a faint musty smell in the hallway. For the segment of the hallway where my room was located there are prevalent water stains on the third floor ceiling that ran from the elevator and extended beyond my room. As soon as I opened the door my room, the musty smell in the hallway was concentrated in my assigned room. It was rank of dampness and humidity. The smell stopped me at the door. I looked back at my cousin who said, "Ain't no way." I struggled to step further into the room but did go in. The back of my throat was gagging because the smell was so repulsive. There was a sofa in the room that looked like it was picked up off the side of the road, post rain storm as it has noticeable water stains on it as well as can be seen in the pictures. I sit down on a chair that is not upholstered to call Expedia. I told them that it was not possible to sleep in that room and that I had strong concerns for my health with the condition of the hotel. I was told that the matter would be escalated and to expect to hear something by the following Monday. I had not unloaded a single thing, make my way out of the room but not before taking more pictures of the hallways. I went back to the front desk where the manager, Tracy, that checked me in was no longer there. A Lala was there and took the keys back that was witnessed by my cousin. I requested that the manager be contacted to reach out to me. Never happened. I find accommodations elsewhere. Having been told the manager would be back Saturday, 7/25, I reach back out to the hotel. She was not there. Spoke at length with another front desk clerk that went on with excuses for the condition of the hotel. I requested the manager be contacted to reach out to me. Never happened. Monday, I reach back out to Expedia about the status of the escalation to get a refund to which I was told there was none. This agent does follow through with filing an escalation on which I did receive an email on 7/29 confirming an escalation was being reviewed for resolution. I do take it upon myself to contact the hotel and finally reach Tracy, 7/31. She told me that she'd never gotten any communications from Expedia whatsoever. I circle back to Expedia 7/30 about the escalation. I tell them of Tracy saying that she never received any communication from Expedia. Expedia calls the hotel, speaks with Tracy, and Tracy declines to give a refund for a stay that never happened. I reached out to Tracy to get the correct spelling of her name to include in these glowing reviews of the quality of service, integrity, and condition of the hotel of which she was made aware. Her tone was an arrogant apathy as she has my money. She not once apologized nor offered ANY compensation of an adjustment much less a refund. Please, use discernment when selecting a hotel through Expedia and the Country Inn and Suites located at 1917 Coliseum Drive, Hampton, VA 23666.

I used to love biscuits and gravy, but lately it seems the gravy has lost it's luster. Not a problem at Residence Inn in Newport News. Although it is only prepared on Sunday, it is worth waiting for. The biscuits are thick, just slightly crispy on the outside and light on the inside. The GRAVY however is pure heaven. Thick and flavorful. Full of sausage bits. A delight to the taste buds. Upon arrival, we were told that the mobile key feature wasn't working and hadn't been for over a month. We then go to our room and put our stuff down because we needed to run some quick errands before stores closed. Upon arriving back at the hotel I began to do my normal process of checking the bed etc. I found that there was what appeared to be either blood or someone had something cheesy in the inside comforter layer. Which meant either you didn't wash it or you need to just throw it away. Either way disgusting! We decided we would just sleep on top and call the front desk in the morning because we were too tired from traveling and running errands. The next morning we awake and decide we'll take my showers etc before calling down so we could be ready to meet up with family. To our surprise, there was hair in the tub and then when my husband cut the shower on, it began to back up like it was flooding. After taking a half shower, he called down and asked to change rooms. He was rudely told we couldn't because they were sold out and that it would have to wait. He then expressed that we were at the hotel for several days. Then the lady said she would send maintenance but we would have to wait. He told her that was unacceptable and when he asked for a manager, she then said it would be 20 mins. Maintenance showed up with a serious mean mug on his face like he was beyond irritated that he had to come and do some work in our room. After evaluating the situation, he stated he needed to grab additional tools and he came back and fixed the issue. Overall, I give this hotel a 1 out of 10 and only because zero isn't an option. Definitely won't ever stay at that location again.

I tried to contact them too many times via every platform they have. The response was weeks after the initial contact. Once I did receive a reply, I was to receive a phone call on a particular day that didn't occur until 3-4 days after the day scheduled. 2) communication: horrible. We were told upon check in the food voucher only covered beignets and coffee; not a full breakfast as listed at the time of booking and we could order breakfast from their restaurant and have the food delivered. When I called to place the order, I was told they can't accommodate a takeout order. ( Mind you, the restaurant is across the street from the accommodations) So, I requested the beignets and coffee covered by the voucher. They had no beignets and offered croissants. I pushed back and asked to speak to management. I was placed on hold for a prolonged period of time. The manager finally picks up and reiterates their inability to provide service. Only when I expressed I would never patronize any of their businesses again, did they suddenly have beignets and could accommodate a take out order. 3) communication: horrible The restaurant opened approximately 15 minutes late on Saturday and Sunday mornings. Patrons were waiting in a line that went down the block. We received our beignets on Saturday, didn't redeem them for Sunday as we had an affair to attend and the tardiness of the restaurant opening didn't allow us time to get food and make our affair on time. We tried to redeem it on Monday and the restaurant was closed. No notification was given. Customers were coming to eat only to find it closed. So, we paid for 3 days and only received one( with a fight I must add). I contacted Crystal who was to call me back in 5 minutes. That call never came. It's been 2 weeks today. Still waiting. 4) Linen: The linen is stained, mismatched, old and needs to be replaced. We had a towel that had some sort of black tar like substance on it. The sheets are paper thin and not of hood quality. Pros: 1) Location: The suites are located on a block with lots of restaurants and shops. Free street parking and a lot are readily available. 2) Decor: The suite was beautifully decorated. Darkening drapes provide excellent coverage. 3) Size: The suite is 2 bedrooms with a dining and sitting area. Lots of windows provide sunlight in all rooms. 4) Temperature: The suite has ceiling fans in both bedrooms and the sitting room as well as individually controlled air conditioners. Pro and con: Crystal Pro: Once I received a call from Crystal, she was efficient in ensuring we received breakfast on Saturday morning, offered to get us reservations for Sunday morning( not needed, we just wanted to redeem the voucher and figured we could do that on our own. That didn't work), getting new towels and she left a nice snack basket for us. Con: She never called me back regarding the closing of the restaurant on Monday nor was any type of compensation offered. Overall, I would NOT recommend staying at Panache Place if you expect to get anything other than nice accommodations and free parking. Top tier service is not on their menu.

The pictures online absolutely do NOT do it justice. Our family of 3 (2 adults and a teenager) spent EIGHT days at this B&B and the location was beyond expectation! This place is a nature lover's dream. We listened to red wing blackbirds, cardinals, and great crested flycatchers sing to us from the trees. A Momma turkey brought her line of tiny babies out to walk across the yard several days in a row. Little boxed turtles scuttled across the yard. Deer popped in and out, frolicking around the property throughout the day. We watched a bald eagle sit in the tree nearby. Fish would jump in the water, herons would dive in and kayakers and small fishing boats went floating by. The pool was beautiful and immaculately kept. We stayed in the two bedroom Roosevelt retreat. It was beautiful! Beds were incredibly comfortable and the rooms were very spacious. The shower had cascading upper showerheads and mid level jets (similar to a high end luxury spa I once visited in Arizona). There was a jetted tub, luxurious shower products, comfy robes and slippers. Rooms were made every day and we were left mints on our pillows. What we loved even more than the beautiful location was the owners themselves. Paige and Mark felt like family by the end of our stay (the kind of family you LIKE to spend time with). They were incredibly generous, thoughtful, and kind. We found ourselves lingering over breakfast with them because they were just such lovely people. They made suggestions on restaurants (including the half price fish and chips!), places to see, things to maybe avoid. Watching them in the kitchen was like having a personal chef for an amazing breakfast every single morning. Everything from eggs benedict, breakfast quesadillas to a traditional English breakfast - never the same thing twice. On our last day, Mark asked our son if he had any special requests and our son opted for a second round of Frank Sinatra's favorite breakfast sandwich (who knew - but it was AMAZING!). They even wrapped up our leftover breakfast food each day so we could snack on it later. They offered hot coffee and orange juice every morning. We also had access to coffee, tea and various tasty snacks throughout the day. I ate way too many yummy brownies and cookies, and my son inhaled Paige's banana muffins. She even made an extra batch so he could take some home on the day we left. This was Southern hospitality and high class luxury at it's finest. Everything about this place was top notch. It was actually HARD to leave because we loved Paige and Mark and their little slice of heaven so much. I cannot recommend this place enough!!
