While walking through a clothing store, I saw a woman with a cute haircut. I approached her and asked who her hair stylist was. She happily blurted out Bruce of Bruce K. Smith in La Canada. I was surprised, but I shouldn't have been, how far out the receptionist was booking for Bruce. I made an appointment. It was about 8-weeks from the time I called. I am happy I waited it out. Visited 1/2/2016 Drove by this place multiple times. Recommended to my daughter by two people. My kids wanted to donate their hair and get a new look for the start of the year, so here we are. When I first walked in, it struck me how nice it was. Cute sitting area inside and outside. Good magazines to read while you wait. We were offered coffee, tea, or water. Big container of candy available. The appointment started promptly which was much appreciated. Her name is Kelli. As I waited for my kids, I checked out the place further. The usual hair products and some skin product. They also offered a nail station, but unfortunately the manicurist was off. Cute and clean restroom. She LOVES her haircut. Donating about 9 inches. The hair stylist wrapped up the hair nicely. $60 includes the cut, shaping the cut, wash, dry/styling. Fairly good deal because a lot of work done on her hair. Kelli did a great job. I would definitely recommend her. I have an issue though with my other daughter haircut. She had 8 inches donated, less cutting and styling so I thought she should have been cheaper than $60. What she got I could have paid less at Supercuts. Moral of the story, if you are just donating hair and nothing else much done to your hair, don't come here. read more

Best hair cut I've ever had with Michelle Kimme. I am totally serious. I bit the bullet and went to a new hair stylist today because I was not happy with my previous hair style. I've been letting my hair grow with long layers for the last three years, but I knew I needed a good stylist. Although it is pretty scary going to a new stylist I decided to trust the previous Yelp reviews for Michelle Kimme, a stylist, with Bruce K. Smith Salon. I have to say that I am so happy with the cut. I don't know about the rest of the female Yelpers out there, but I find that it is really difficult to get a great cut along with a great color service in the same visit. Usually, a stylist will work their magic with highlights, lowlights or new growth color which takes a little time for processing. By the time it comes time to cut your hair they are ready to move on to the next client, so they rush the cut and it just isn't very good. I finally decided that even though I love the Aveda products for their plant based dyes and products that I would have to find someone else to get a good cut. I am so glad I did because Michelle gave me the best cut I think I've ever had. The blow dry was absolutely perfect too. Most times I have to tweak it when I get home from a cut, but not today. The salon just moved into this new location recently after the Avima Aveda concept salon went out of business. They renovated the space with new paint and furnishings and it is beautiful inside. They sell really nice products too if you need anything. Michelle listened to what I wanted to achieve with my hair style and she told me what she could do. She rounded out the layers instead of squaring them off and shortened some of the top ones. I asked her to keep it long enough, so I could pull it back into a pony tail which is a necessity for the gym and hot days. I would highly recommend her to anyone looking for a new stylist. Kelli 911!!! I went to see Kelli after a horrible hair experience. The lady (Emma) chopped 6 inches off when I only wanted 4. She didn't give me anything close to the color I asked her for. The color was only slightly lighter than my natural dark brown and then it turned into a shade of red. She charged me a ridiculous amount. Long story short I wasn't happy. I decided to connect with Kelli (911!) I explained what I wanted my hair to look like and sent her pictures. I felt like I might be bugging her but she never made me feel anything but comfortable and understood. I drove all the way from Long Beach to see her and boy was it worth it! My hair came out EXACTLY how I wanted it! She completely fixed my hair! (hence the Kelli 911!) She was so easy to talk to and makes your time in her chair feel like you're hanging out with an old friend. The salon is very clean, organized and well kept. I came to Bruce k Smith salon for the first time. It was a place i have driven past for years and the great reviews made me try it out. Missy was my stylist. She was amazing. I had bleached and box dyed hair so i needed total reconstruction. I got a color correction. She was so easy to talk to. We looked at some inspiration photos and she got straight to work. It has turned out amazing. She worked so hard and was always explaining to me why she was doing something a certain way and how i would be able to maintain it and what hair treatments to use since my hair was bleached. The salon itself is also very nice it looks modern and homey. They had water and coffee which was great. Based on reviews that I read here on Yelp, I went to see Missy Castro. Boy, was everyone right. She did the color perfectly the first time and communicated with me throughout the cut to make certain it would be exactly what I wanted. I walked out feeling as if she really got me, my preferences, and my hair. At first I was a little put off that she was so young, thinking that she might be better at "contemporary" styles, but I was wrong. Clearly, her skills cut across ages, styles, colors, and lengths. An added bonus is that I didn't feel like a captive audience with her talking AT me instead of WITH me. I've been looking for a new "home" for my hair for a while now and I think I finally found it. If you don't care about service then this is your place....They do nice hair, but the service was the worst. Walked in 10 mins early for my appointment. The receptionist asked me who I was there for I told her Michelle and she said she would be right with me...I was the only person in the waiting area and two other clients in the whole salon....Michelle was finishing someone up. I waved at her and patiently sat down and waited.... after the first 10 minutes I saw that Michelle had finished with her client and walked to the back and foolish me thought she was getting ready to work on me. Another 10 minutes passed no sign of Michelle or the receptionist...another 10 minutes I got up again and saw the receptionists sitting in a chair looking at me but not asking me anything...I needed my hair done in the worst was as I had to be in Hollywood for a T.V. shoot...I turned away and saw Bruce motion to her about me...Then she got the "smarts" to ask who I was waiting for....WHAT????? I thought I walked into the Twilight Zone...I kept calm and told her Michelle again...She asked has she seen you....I was shaking, but still trying to save my appointment and told her yes, but it was now close to 40 minutes, and I had an appointment in an hour and there probably wasn't enough time...I walked out. I got in my car and left. 5 minutes later a voicemail from Michelle apologizing to me that she had "forgotten" about me. I called back and the very smart receptionist wouldn't put Michelle on phone, but she would give me her cell number. I told her I was driving and could she call back and leave it on my voicemail...Well, I never hear back. All this happened with Bruce 10 feet away....I don't know, call me crazy, but if it was my name on my business you better believe, I would call back and try to fix the situation before I let such bad service ruin my salon.....but that's just me! I guess for Bruce and Michelle losing one client doesn't really matter, but maybe this one client will let everyone who will listen in the La Canada/La Crescenta/Montrose/Glendale area know the horrific service they offer... read more

Love my color, love my cut :) Michelle is super cool, has an amazing eye for style and listened to exactly what I wanted. She left my length as I wanted and just body with textured layers. Kelli has been doing my hair for almost 2 years now and I am continually struck by how knowledgeable she is and how beneficial that has been to the health of my hair. She cares what your hair looks like in and out of the salon, and I have gotten an education on how to make it look the way I want it to in between appointments. She is a GREAT listener and really works with you to achieve the look you want. She is a total professional - academic & talented with great instincts. Bruce was my stylist for at least 6 years until I moved too far away to see him regularly but once in a while I make a trip from NorCal to have him do my color and cut! I even moved out of state and came back! I totally trust him to do something great with my hair. I'm super picky & have asian course hair, which is ash blonde now thanks to Tara yay =) I saw a girl at a restaurant with amazing color & highlights and I stopped her to get a referral & that's how I found Tara- BEST decision ever & changed my life because she makes my hiar look so good. Tara is super cool, really sweet & takes her time while doing hair. She can do WHATEVER color/highlights you want & with ease. She cuts my hair so well- lots of layers w/so much volume & I get compliments ALL the time. Her products made my hair healthier & NEVER damaged like some salons that break your hair when you highlight. The prices are reasonable (lower than my old salon with better results) and she offers mini & contour cuts when you don't need a full which is great. My old salon charged for a full cut even if you only needed a trim. Bruce K Smith is such a nice salon with a happy serene vibe & I look forward to going there everytime! Previously I went to a salon in Old Town Pas & since that was the best I've had, I continued to go. I just moved to La Canada and was looking for a new salon. My good friend recommended Kelli at Bruce K Smith Salon and her recommendation was spot on! When I first got to the salon, Kelli took her time chatting with me and assessing exactly what I wanted done to my hair. I had not cut it since last July and was looking to go much shorter (like 4+ inches off). She was very knowledgeable and professional in giving me her opinion and advice on how she would go about cutting my hair. She asked tons of questions and made sure we were on the same page with the cut/style I was going for. She gave me a great shampoo (and head massage!) and then got to work. She was super precise, confident, and stopped every so often to check to make sure she was cutting my hair the way I wanted it (she was!). She was lovely to chat with, we had a very natural and enjoyable conversation while she worked her magic. (Which I appreciated because sometimes going to a new stylist can be so awkward when it comes to conversation!). The final result was amazing! I LOVE my new hair cut! It was exactly what I wanted! Kelli absolutely delivered. Now everyone knows the true test to a fantastic haircut is how it looks after you go home, wash it, and style it yourself. Well, I'm happy to report that I finally washed my gorgeous new hair and was able to blow dry and style it EXACTLY the way Kelli sent me home. This is unheard of for me! I heard about Bruce K Smith after I had my hair botched by Muse Atelier. I live in Beverlywood, but because I was desperate headed out to La Canada to get my hair fixed. I was referred to Michelle and have since referred three other gals over to her. She's fun, quirky and knows how to do hair -- she's great with blondes! She adds depth and dimension which is perfect for photos or on-camera gigs. It also looks amazing in person! She utilizes highlights and lowlights, which some places tend to steer away from, however Michelle knows her stuff and keeps your hair looking baby-fresh. It's amazing! Michelle Kimme is a world class hairstylist and make up artist. I have SUPER fine, SUPER thin, naturally platinum blonde hair and one wrong move makes my hair look like crap. I wanted to grow my hair out from a pixie style cut, never a fun process. Michelle has navigated me through this process with careful attention to how my hair frames my face, how unevenly it grows, and correcting for that, and creating a style that looks great when it dries on it's own. I'm a very active person, a personal trainer, and I don't have time to fuss with my hair. I love how my hair looks when I throw it up in a bun, let it dry and fall naturally.
