But one your health begins to fail, you discover that services you need are extremely costly. $750 a month to be escorted to the dining room. If you need your blood pressure taken for a medicine, that's $800 a month. Need assistance to get dressed, shower, take meds, or pretty much anything, that's all extra. This why so many people leave Carlton as their need for assistance grows.

Staff has been walking us through these with smiles, sensitivity to concerns, could no have asked for more. Dining hall menus and service also tops. Some people are quick to criticize. Having been exposed to community food service on a corporate level most of my adult life I have never had the variety of food choices, the caring service, and the cheerful setting as is a daily experience at the Elk Grove Carlton. Staff support is very good. Would have been helpful to have a day for orientation by the entire staff. Individually, we've met most of the staff. However, in some cases still not certain who to contact when there's a need. Bottom line, given the aches, pains, and needs associated with advancing age, we are pleased with the accommodations and the care received. Walter T

The Commons at Elk Grove was the top choice because of Karen, the Sales Director. Her understanding of our needs was beyond what I expected, particularly since my visit was a cold call where I just dropped in to check things out. When the decision was made, I met with Ashley and the executive director, Jessica, and they also connected me with the director of nursing, Barbara. They were all amazing due to their knowledge and compassion. I assume it was a little annoying that I would just drop in without scheduling an appointment first! When it turned out we couldn't move forward due to a new health issue, Barbara had a recommendation. The next day, they called and checked to see how things were going and to see if the new place worked out. I truly appreciated their help and kindness.

Being that we haven't been contacted again I'd like to express more information about this company and our experience. We have been working closely with the community we have chosen now. We have only seen improvements since leaving the commons. The community the commons is still an issue as I have spoken to several staff who still work there. The staff is still working under harsh circumstances and unfair treatment. The memory care director still needs to be looked into for the same reasons as before. As well as the "chef" whose name is Michael should be looked into as well. Not only have we never had good experiences in the past when it come to the terrible food but he was very strange in the way he spoke to people of different cultures I noticed for us he would change his whole accent. Try to throw out "slang" to our younger visitors and just very strange. Although the memory director and the kitchen "chef" were probably the worst for our experience I'm sure if they feel comfortable with openly disrespecting others there should be more than surface level investigating.

TO: LINDA ARCHIE From: Annie Carter (Client) Thank you so much for the wonderful care you give me every single day. Your patience and kindness make a huge difference in my life. I always look forward to the delicious meals you cook and our great conversations together. You help me feel completely safe and respected during bathing, and you turn daily routines into a truly enjoyable part of my day. Your warmth and professionalism mean the world to me. Thank you, Linda, for your hard work and for being such a wonderful caregiver and companion.

(Note: I see multiple offices listed for this agency; I chose the Elk Grove location because that's…read morethe office I believe we were dealing with.) We used this agency for much of 2022 to care for our ailing parents in the Sacramento area, and I have very mixed feelings about them. On the one hand, we had a number of different caregivers from Golden Years and one of them stood far above the rest, so we requested her exclusively and were never disappointed by her excellent care. However, dealing with their business office left a very bitter taste in my mouth.. I could have overlooked the multiple billing errors (including duplicate invoices) if their office had been responsive in correcting them, but emails to their office simply went unanswered, and I had to resort to sending letters via registered mail. (Thus, "unpaid" but erroneous bills piled up and GY started charging us usuriously high interest rates on the "unpaid" amounts.. I'm talking 122%) I also was not pleased when a key contractual obligation was not only ignored (as were multiple requests that they honor their contract) but once they finally replied, they blamed *us* for the problem that they caused. Caregiver scheduling was also a big issue. We were supposed to do all scheduling through the GY office, but they were not at all reliable and we wound up having to schedule directly with our caregiver. (This was against their rules, but the caregiver acknowledged the challenges dealing with the GY office, and told us that she had the same problems with them.) If our excellent caregiver had not left GY's employ, we probably would have continued to suffer their billing errors and obnoxious unresponsiveness, but while we were sad to see the caregiver go, we were not at all unhappy to be done with Golden Years. (They did eventually condescend to reply to us and offered a small token reduction in our charges as an apology for their failures). If we were in a position where we needed in-home care services again, I would absolutely not choose Golden Years.
