While visiting New Jersey recently I wanted to go somewhere I couldn't go to back home . That's always the goal to try out new places . So upon doing my research I came across this restaurant. Now of course upon reading reviews everyone said to get there early because the line can get long especially on a Saturday and Sunday morning. So we arrived around 8:30 on Saturday and we were seated right away because it was only two of us . The service was excellent we were seated right away . Our waiter came out and gave us the rundown of the menu . They had a promo menu because of the Devil Wears Prada movie . I did get a specialty non alcoholic drink from the menu which was excellent. We ordered the French toast and the avocado toast with scrambled eggs and it came with smoked salmon on sourdough bread . The French toast was so good and moist you didn't even need to add additional syrup . The food was delicious and the portion sizes are perfect . The restaurant is cozy so if you have a big party make reservations. But you won't be disappointed I can't wait to visit Brunch by De Martino again whenever I come back to New Jersey . My family and I have been supporting the Martino's Cuban Restaurant family restaurants for years, going back to the original Martino's from his dad's side (which we truly miss). So coming here carries a bit of nostalgia for us. This concept feels very different from the original. It's definitely a more modern, upscale take. Portions are smaller, prices are higher, and the menu feels more elevated with a mix of Cuban-inspired and American flavors rather than strictly traditional Cuban comfort food. That said, the food is genuinely very good. The Cuban sandwich was easily one of the best we've had in New Jersey. Unlike many places that mostly use ham with a thin layer of pork, this one had thick, flavorful pieces of pork that made it feel much more authentic. A few other favorites: - The tostones with guacamole were a great starter. - Their chocolate latte used to be one of our favorites (sadly it seems to have been replaced by a raspberry chocolate version, which wasn't for us). - The seasonal pumpkin iced latte was excellent. - The strawberry banana waffles were more than enough to share. - The scrambled eggs and thick-cut bacon were fresh and delicious. We spent about $140 for breakfast for a family of four, so it's definitely on the pricier side, but it felt fitting for a special occasion like Mother's Day. A heads-up: reservations are only accepted for parties of six or more, so smaller groups are first come, first served. On Mother's Day, we waited about an hour after arriving at 8:30 AM, but their digital waitlist system made it easy to track our place in line while running errands nearby. Do we miss the old Martino's? Absolutely. The larger portions and casual family feel were special to us. But this restaurant offers something different--more polished, more curated, and still very enjoyable. This place is owned and operated by the offspring of a man named Martino, who for many years ran a Cuban restaurant in Somerville. He passed a while back, and his family opened a brunch/lunch restaurant called De Martino. Get it? When they opened, they used to be just brunch, but they have expanded to dinner, too, and even have a wine list. But we go for brunch on a Sunday, 10 or 12 of us, every couple of months. The food, the presentation, the service - FABULOUS. The entrees are creative, fresh, and wonderful, and you might even find a Cuban influence in more than a few things. Brunch - about ten different creatively flavored lattes. My fave is the Raspberry Chocolate Latte: espresso, dark chocolate, raspberry, fresh honey whipped cream latte. I've had Brunch by De Martino on my list for a while, and I'm so glad I finally went because it completely surpassed my expectations. The interior is so cute, with a flower bed on the ceiling. The decor and service truly makes it feel like you're at a family member's house--super cozy and welcoming! The food was amazing. For drinks we had the pretty in pink matcha and maple latte, both were delicious! Then we had the Hot Honey Chicken and Waffles; the chicken was juicy yet crispy with so much flavor. This is a must-have dish! We also tried the Dubai Chocolate Pancakes. The rich chocolate perfectly balanced the creaminess of their homemade pistachio butter and cream. I don't know how they do it, but the sweetness was just right and not at all overpowering. Because we couldn't decide, we also ordered the Blueberry Buttermilk Lemon Ricotta Pancakes, which were a refreshing and delicious combination. Finally, we had the Florentino Benedict. I am so glad my sister suggested we meet for Brunch at Brunch by De Martino! Our food was phenomenal and it was the perfect intimate atmosphere for us since we haven't seen one another in a while. We immediately started with the chicken empanadas and the short rib quesadilla. The empanadas had just the right amount of seasoning. I ordered the Tres Leches French Toast. What a find! Cuban flavor baked into every dish. Everything was made fresh to order. Good sized portions and the menu allows for a variety of diets (vegan, vegetarian, etc). The restaurant is decorated nicely and very clean. The servers are so friendly and welcoming. They helped answer several questions and checked in throughout the meal. We got the short rib empanadas, potato hash with poached eggs, sweet potato hash with poached eggs, Florentino, Cuban sandwiches, the golden glow juice and cafe con leche. Great brunch spot with BYOB option! Arrived on Sunday around 10:45am. We were told it was about a 60 minute wait and luckily we only had to wait 30ish minutes! Stayed for about 2 hrs before they asked us to leave for their next reservation because of their Sunday brunch rush. Would come back. Seating deeper inside closer to the kitchen gets hotter than by the window. Street parking. Matcha drinks come unsweetened but they have vanilla syrup sweeteners available. Everything was standout. Portions are huge and everything that we ordered was delicious and beautifully presented. We tried a few things and my favorite was the avocado toast topped with bacon onion jam and scrambled eggs. This was the perfect combo of sweet and savory and it really hit the spot. The fried chicken and waffles came with the most decadent and crispy fried chicken. The taquitos were also a hit and were smothered in a delicious slaw and crema. We came to Brunch by DeMartino on a Sunday morning around 10am and waited about 40 minutes for a table, which was totally worth it. The vibe was upbeat, and the team kept the line moving smoothly. We started with lattes: matcha, salted caramel, and coconut. All were delicious and thoughtfully made. If you like your drinks on the sweeter side, be sure to ask for sweetener. I've come to this place for years with my family, even back when it was originally called "Martinos". The food is still just as good and worth coming back for. It's been very interesting to see how much it has evolved over the years from an originally homey and comforting restaurant. Now it is a trendy brunch hotspot with well deserved hype. As for our experience, we both ordered drinks to start. I got a vanilla iced latte, she got the gingerbread iced latte. The vanilla iced latte was perfectly sweet and delicious! it came topped with whipped cream. For our meals, I ordered the chicken and waffles, she ordered the tres leches French toast. I visited Brunch by De Martino on a Monday morning, and surprisingly, it was pretty busy for a weekday. As soon as we walked in, we were seated right away. For starters, I ordered the chicken taquitos. They were nice and crispy, but the chicken was dry and lacked flavor. For my entree, I got the carne asada omelette with sourdough toast and a side of bacon. I loved the amount of bacon they give you, crispy, not too salty, and there's barely any fat on it. The omelette itself was okay, I didn't love it. The skirt steak was in some kind of sauce that was a little oily, and it left an acidic feeling in my stomach with each bite. Which has never happened to me. I personally wouldn't order it again, but I would come back to try a different entree and starter. I also tried the grilled chicken sandwich. It was decent, but nothing special. There were pockets of chicken missing. There could've been more chicken, I was mostly biting into bread, sauce, and cheese. Service was great and the space itself is bright and open. My only real complaint was how close the tables are to each other. At one point, the couple next to us had to shift their table to get out of their booth, and I had to do the same on my side. It made things feel a cramped. Overall, I'd revisit, but I would order a different brunch entree next time. read more

We came, we saw, we ate... and I think the seeing may have outdone the eating. Know that your party will have to show up, leave a name, and wait. It was about what we expected (30 minutes), fortunately not too bad outside, because you. will. not. fit. inside De Martino when there is a wait. They pack their small business to the gills. Well, once we got a seat, it was a small table but at least it was our own. Service was what you'd expect with the chaos of a Sunday midday - okay, maybe I wasn't expecting all of Somerville to come out, but that's a sign of love - but not unreasonably slow. We got water, the food took awhile but not excessive. Despite the 90-minute limit, we were there at least 100 minutes by the time I finished my last bite of blueberry pancake and there was no pressure to foot the bill and skedaddle, so I appreciate that the rule isn't hard and fast. And the food? I'm on 4 stars for my blueberry pancakes. A lot of food looks so good there, but biting into it, they were rather grainy. The "ricotta cheese" (really was more like whipped cream with texture and taste) and baked-in blueberries + compote made up for it. My date was a bit less impressed. Overall, 3.5 stars maybe? Let me just say I can't wait to come back AGAIN! Brunch by De Martino offers an OUTSTANDING brunch. Everything on their menu is absolutely delicious and consistent in each visit I've had. The staff are extremely helpful and kind. Every person that stopped by our table checked on us and seemed so happy to be there. They are BYOB but also offers ones wines by the bottle on their menu. My friends and I did byob with some Prosecco which paired perfectly with a small pitcher of their peach Bellini juice. I ordered the steak and eggs with medium rare steak and over easy eggs. Everything was cooked to perfection and was so tasty. I cleared my entire plate which almost never happens! Everyone at the table also enjoyed their meals very much. We even order an extra entree, a stack of the banana walnut pancakes for the table. They were the perfect sweet treat to pair with our savory breakfast choices.They also offer exceptional coffees, lattes, and cappuccinos. Keep in mind, there is usually a wait for a table on the weekends during peak brunch hours but it is well worth the wait. De Martino's has officially been added to my regular brunch rotation. This has become one of my favorite brunch spots in the area. I was looking for a brunch place to celebrate my bday and they did not disappoint! It's a BYOB place you can bring in birthday cake etc and they will bring it out for you with candles and sing happy birthday. They really make your celebration special. The food is outstanding! My favorite is the carne asada omelette with home fries, the tostadas and guac are also very good. Everything is seasoned to perfection. The chicken and waffles is another fav with hot honey syrup. We have had the pleasure of dining here several times before. On this occasion, we chose to visit for brunch, forgetting that it was Labor Day, a Monday, in Somerville, when most restaurants close to allow their staff to rest. Happily, the weather was beautiful, and we were able to take a pleasant stroll while we waited, we didn't go far, luckily the 30 minute wait was 15 made. As anticipated, the food was outstanding, with impeccable presentation. The sole drawback is the noisy ambiance, which allows conversations from adjacent and opposite tables to be easily overheard due to the close table arrangement. Where do I begin? I'll start with the not so stellar... no reservations, so you'll have to just wait, BUT, the wait is SO worth it! Went on a Sunday afternoon and was blown away from the time that I walked in (decorated so beautifully for the holiday season!). Not the biggest place, but it definitely feels roomier than it is. Not sitting on top of each other. Intimate. Service was so friendly and efficient! Thanks, Emerson! Now, to the start of the show... the food and drink. OK, everything that I tasted was like a party in my mouth. From the blueberry lemon ricotta pancakes that were probably some of the best pancakes I've ever had. So light, fluffy, and full of flavor! My "Hash it Out" entree was so full of flavor and perfectly prepared! How can you go wrong with potatoes, sofrito, cherry tomatoes, tomatillo crema, poached eggs, and hollandaise. Oh and I added shrimp... took it over the top! I could eat this weekly. Now, I'm usually a mimosa girl, but since we forgot to BYOB... I was able to try the mocktails. But, see these are so artistically made, you don't miss the liquor! I've never seen a more creative mocktail menu. Because tis the season, I ordered "The Grinch" which was such a pretty drink.. it just made me smile and it was delicious. I've been here more than I can count and I've never had a bad meal. Come before 9 to get right in as it does fill up quickly. There's plenty of street parking in front of or nearby the restaurant. My go to is always one of the pancake options. They are fluffy and sweet and consistently good. The lemon blueberry pancakes are my favorite.
