I'v been a client of Roger's for many, many years and he is truly the best at what he does. I love that he geeks out on the chemistry and artistry of his work as a colorist. He is always transparent and detailed in explaining the services he is providing, and makes sure you get what you want. My honey brunette-ish blond-ish hair has been lighter and darker over the years, but he makes sure highlights are super soft and natural. The balayage and hair cuts grow out beautifully (a godsend during the time of covid). Roger has done an *incredible* job building a business based on his skill and dedication to his craft and word of mouth from satisfied clients. Not to mention his prices are crazy good given the exceptional quality. When you are in his chair you have his focus 100%. Disregard anyone who gives one star, they have obviously never even come to the salon or met Roger. Of course he is not picking up calls all day long, he is a one man show! Schedule online. This is so sad. I read all the "got stood up" comments and thought, well, this could never happen to me. Wrong. My appointment was for last Saturday, I got a confirmation text the day before. It took me 1 hour to get there. I kept praying, "Please let him be there." I get there at 1:50 for my 2 pm and guess what? The salon was dark, no one there. A woman in a neighboring studio said he had not been there all day. I called, texted, nothing. If anyone still wants to take their chances with Roger, just know there is a Dramatics Hair Salon 2 blocks away. Since I had a party to go to that night and lots of roots, I ran in and they did my hair. I will admit, it's not the beautiful ash blond hair Roger gave me but- they don't stand you up. I went to Roger after getting the worst haircut of my life at my hometown salon. I'm always hesitant trying new stylists but my friend absolutely SWORE by Roger so I gave it a go. Words cannot express the magic he worked on my hair. I went in to fix my botched haircut, and get my hair toned and brighter in the front. Not only did he totally fix my haircut without cutting it shorter, he went above and beyond by adding foils to the top of my head as in his own words he "doesn't half ass things" which is 10000000% true. Roger stayed open until 9pm fixing my hair that I had cried for 3 days over, and I left feeling more happy and confident than I ever have after leaving a salon. It is beyond apparent that Roger is exceptionally talented and goes the extra mile for his clients and makes sure everyone leaving his salon satisfied and taken care of. It was such a an amazing experience! I have super long Hair. I had been to different salons to achieve the color I wanted and I always left the salon with disappointment. Since my hair is dark, I was told that it was impossible to achieve the color I wanted until I met Roger !!! He was sooo confident and gave me his explanation of how he was going to achieve the color I wanted before we started the session. And yes he did it! I showed up for my appointment and no one was there. After 30 min of trying to contact Roger, he apologized and rescheduled my appointment. When I tried to go to my new appointment the following week, no one was there again. He never returned my calls or made an effort to contact me. I was really excited to work with him as his reviews are amazing, but unless you have ample time to spare and are willing to repeatedly be stood up, I would not recommend booking with him. read more

Let me start by saying I saw Roger about a month ago and he truly is a master at what he does and I was excited to have found him and was looking forward to seeing him on a regular basis for my blonde highlights. BUT I'm afraid my experiences have been exactly like the other one-star reviews. The first appointment was not without bumps and adjustments because of something that came up for him. And yesterday I got the lovely NO CALL / NO SHOW. I went to my appointment, was on time, able to get in the building as another patron came out but his studio was completely locked and dark. By this time it was 15 minutes past my confirmed appointment time. I sent a polite text and asked if he would be there soon. Nothing. I waited another half hour, nothing. Sent him a cordial text to let him know I was leaving. No response. I've never written a Yelp review but I felt like the other reviews in this instance were helpful, coupled with my very first appointment experience; my expectations of him showing up for our appointment were fairly low but I had hope since I'd gotten a text a week prior from him personally letting me know he would be available and I could schedule my appointment online which had been accepted and confirmed. I know times are tough and certain industries including this one have been hit hard and I have sympathy and understanding. My prior hairstylist of 7 years went into early retirement because of slow business. But it's also not right to treat people this way. And have them taking trains / public transportation during a pandemic if you have no intention of showing up for them. read more

There are no words to explain the magic Roger did to my hair. I went in yesterday for an appointment for highlights, but with one look at the botched color job on my head he quickly changed course. I ended up getting a corrective balayage to cover up the brassy orange color that another salon thought would match my existing blonde highlights. Roger made certain that I left happy, even if that meant him staying longgg past closing time to fix the damage done by someone else. He is highly experienced, and genuinely enjoys what he does which made the entire experience so much more enjoyable. And on top of that he has unmatched customer service. Best experience I've had in a Salon in NYC since I moved here. I have been coming to Roger for a few years now for all my hair needs. He knows exactly how to counteract the brassiness in my dark hair and complement my skin tone. Although he is absolutely magical with color he gives a great cut too! The best part was that his prices are so reasonable I always go home feeling amazing and like I hadn't been taken for an absolute ride. Roger is a total sweetheart. I even called him in a panic days before my wedding because my wedding stylist gave me extensions that didn't match. He calmed me down and offered to go in on his day off just to ensure I was wedding ready. I moved to the city from sunny California (land of the blondes) and was DESPERATE to have my roots done. The options of the city overwhelmed me and I was skeptical of most salons that charged an "unquotable" amount based on the amount of product, time, etc. I found Roger on Yelp, looked at the pictures, and decided to give it a go. Roger was so amazing. Not only did he do a full set of baby high-lights in the time my other colorist does less than half of my head, but he also did an AMAZING job. Roger really cares and spent a lot of time lightening my hair. He is almost like NYC's best kept secret, located in a discreet salon in Midtown East. I have been to many colorists and they do not care, they will leave you in the chair for hours and take no responsibility for the damage they cause then charge you the highest they can get away with. I'm very particular with who cuts and especially colors my hair. I love my natural hair color as it has hints of blonde and red throughout, but as I'm getting older and the gray hair is starting to come more and more, I need a good colorist. I was previously paying high end prices for an internationally renowned colorist I met while traveling. Since I've been back in NYC, I needed a local colorist and I cannot speak highly enough about Roger. He is a genius when it come to hair. He returned my hair to my natural state with subtle highlights and covered my grays. He was kind, personable and professional. He listened to what I wanted and created something better than I could have imagined (and better than the renowned colorist did). Weeks later and my balayage still looks beautiful and perfect for the holiday season. I couldn't be happier with Roger. He's also very reasonably priced - he tells you about the new client specials he offers in case you didn't see them yourself. I had originally booked a balayage, cut and blow out, but after coloring my hair, he told me I didn't need the cut (and was right) and gave me a better price that we had agreed upon. Most salons would have 'cut' minimally and charged! I will definitely be using him again and couldn't recommend him more! read more

Incredible first time experience! In the past, I had always colored my own hair from a box dye , but I really wanted to try going blonde and didn't trust myself to bleach my own hair. After a lot of research, both on yelp and google, I found this salon and looked through the reviews and pictures. Because I have fairly thick Asian hair, my biggest concern was finding a colorist who knew how to handle this hair type. I remember seeing a few pictures on yelp of other Asian women and I thought their results looked great, so I decided to take a chance. Being my first time professionally getting my hair dyed, I was a bit nervous, but Roger was incredibly patient and took the time to explain to me the possible choices to lighten my (already colored) hair without extremely damaging it, which was another concern I was worried about. The end result turned out amazing and I was especially surprised that my hair didn't feel like straw as I had been anticipating before the appointment. It still felt like my hair and had nice movement. Roger is a talented and hardworking man that has a lot of integrity in his work. Venue Roger is simply the best at what he does, a real pro, a master of color, and always surpasses my expectations and my hair is a beast, its thin and limp and mouse brown but he makes it look like natural sunshine. Ok this review is based on my experience in TRYING to get appointment. He refuses to schedule appointment on phone(which btw he never answers nor does he respond to texts as his voicemail suggests you do) & insists you do it online Which I ended up doing & corresponded with him then. On my way to appointment I couldn't find salon & called to get help in finding it, he never picked up nor called to see why I wasn't at appointment. Sooooo I come home & book another appointment & make sure I know where salon is beforehand this time. Roger never confirms appointment & I text him repeatedly to see if i am on his schedule & I leave messages & no answer. An HOUR before appointment i Get message from yelp saying my appointment is CANCELLED. No call or text back from personally just a message through Yelp. If he wanted to cancel it it would've been nice to have known sooner than An hour before as I had lunch plans directly after appointment & ended up having To Go with dirty crazy Frizzy hair Pretty Savage if you ask me. Mr.innocent needs to have more business etiquette. Shame on you. read more
