Stuffed banana peppers were so good that I forgot to take a picture before!

Good service, good food, great experience! So happy we stopped in! We started with the too many appetizers because the selection was huge! Smothered fries: they had a crispy breading that kept it's crunch even after the gravy and cheese sat for a bit. Loved! Stuffed banana peppers: I would come back just to have this as my main entree. It's spicy so be ready! Fried pickles: they are pickle spears, but too much breading, our favorite! They have a kids menu with was classic. Grilled cheese, chix tenders, mac n cheese bites. I had the fish and chips and my husband had the Uncle Charleys sausage sandwich. We were stuffed!

    Chicken broccoli alfredo, yummy!!

I went on a Sunday and there was only one other table. Food was terrible. Service was terrible. I wouldn't ever go back here.

With 50 years of experience (he and his wife own this place), you can take advantage of the twilight of his career and the height of his experience. Flavio's is a dress-up sit-down fine dining experience. It was clean, with ample parking in its private lot next door. Lots of one-way roads so be aware of that. We arrived at 4:55. Could not go inside until 5:05. We had reservations. The place started to fill up to 50% capacity (10 tables total, maybe 20 could be fit if needed) around 6:30pm. Somehow we left around 7:45pm, even though our main course was finished at 6:30pm. This is an experience, not a quick bite to eat. There is a bar but you can't just walk in and go there. Everyone was seated in the dining room, which has two parts. My 79 -year old father was told that this was the best filet mignon in the entire United States and I agree that it is very well done perfectly medium rare at request with a crusty exterior and perfect grill marks. The seafood and gnocci pasta plate looked amazing but was enjoyed by someone else at our table, but it looked really good. Everything has an upcharge so expect to drop some cash. Get the Petite Syrah no 48 wine to compliment your dinner. You won't regret it. We had the seasoned potatos, it's OId Bay seasoning, similar to steak fries but made from a baked potato. Very nice. We had the broccoli, it was wonderful. I had the caeser salad, it was fine. Lots of cheese and anchovies are an option. We had it with our meal. Upcharge $5 ... People liked the italian dressing on their house salads but it was nothing spectacular or memorable. Upcharge $5 .. they also offer the classic "Wedge" salads as an option for $7. The standard marinara was nothing to write home about. My wife complained her Chicken Provencial was too sweet. Her side of penne alla marinara was boring. The gnocci was great though. Have the gnocci. For my side, I paid an upcharge of $7.50. The spaghetti or linguine or whatever it was was obviously a prepped reheat, whereas the gnocci were made on the spot, and the penne is the standard side so at least it was made that night. I had the puttanesca. It had too many onions, but the olives were nice. My default choices were penne or gnocci with marinara, or a potato (baked or "seasoned" as fried sticks). Dessert: We shared a piece of cheesecake with the table, and it tastes like tiramisu. I had to force the rest of it down since no one would finish it. It had a spongy tiramisu-like bottom and was flavored of lemons. I suspect it was made in house. My wife had the Spumoni. She liked it but didn't finish it. I had the Jamaican Coffee (liquor coffee drink). It was fine but overall not necessary to finish your meal and very sweet. We had the oysters (broiled). Good. I personally like them "on the half shell" but no one was willing. 6 oysters. We had the shrimp cocktail. Nice shrimp, great horse radish. 5 shrimp. We tipped well. Over 30% because how much longer this place will be in operation is anyone's guess. It's possible, if you are choosy, to spend less than $50 on your meal but we spent well over that each. Four people $313 with a lot of upcharges and top-end dishes, a bottle of Syrah, 1 beer, desserts and three apps and everyone got a salad (cost extra). Oh yeah the bread. It was fine. Reminiscent of "Mancini's" .. hard crust fluffy airy interior. Was not the most amazing bread but it fit the place.

When I first contacted him he replied almost immediately and set up a time to talk with me about our preferences, dietary restrictions and overall food vibes. He sent me a menu within a day and welcomed feedback. Tonight we sat at the bar where we were able to see into the open kitchen and Chef Anthony walked us through every dish (both ours and those of other diners). Everything was delicious and with the exception of the cannoli shell, made from scratch, in house. Portions were huge for an almost 8 course meal and the pacing was great. The other staff were wonderful and beyond the flavorful food, the pricing is very reasonable. Do yourself a favor and make a reservation. He also recently lost his sous chef due to him being in a really unfortunate accident. So if anyone knows someone looking for work... he's hiring.

I'll post a photo of the menu, but here are some of my thoughts: Turkey - so delicious Mashed potatoes - perfection Stuffing - I loved it but the kids didn't. Honestly they probably would have preferred Stove Top though. Green beans - very tasty but not great as a leftover Cranberry chutney - ok, I love the canned stuff but this was truly a hit. Rolls and butter - literally such delicious butter! Apple pies - they were more like empanadas. I was expecting mini round pies. The crust was amazing but the apples were a bit tart. The pickup was easy and seamless. Everything was packed well. Thank you! We can't wait to come in to eat soon.

My wife, who's Italian, wants to take this +1 hour trip several times a year just to come here because it reminds her of the various "Mom & Pop" restaurants of her hometown in northeast PA. It sits in downtown DuBois with plenty of parking options nearby. The restaurant is good sized but it also does a lot of business so plan ahead on the weekends. The inside has a cozy/hometown feel with pictures of their family all over the walls. I don't think much has changed to the interior in those 20 years and that's okay by me. For this outing we opted for the antipasta salad, Italian wedding soup, veal parm and stuffed manicotti. Their dishes are more traditional italian (i.e. not olive garden) and they offer lunch, half, or full-sized portions. Their gravy has a good balance between sweet and savory. They also make a great fresh baked loaf of bread and they're happy to bring several to the table throughout the course. It was a special occasion so we closed out the night with their famous strawberry cheesecake. Service was excellent and the bill, with several drinks, was around $60 for 2. This is not a chain; it has character, it's not polished but it's a true gem of spot in rural PA. I'm glad places like this still exist!
