Normally, even though I go to a LOT of wineries, I am reluctant to review wineries on Yelp. The reason I typically hesitate is that wine tastes are so subjective to varietal preferences, where one person may love a Syrah, while another despises it. And, beyond just varietals, one person may prefer fruity lighter wines, while another may want rich, earthy, tannic flavors. It's hard to rate a winery and not comment on its wine, so I tend to suspend my Yelp postings as a result. But - now and then, a winery rises to the occasion on so many fronts, that it just merits a writeup, and I'm happy to say that Bryn Mawr is such a place. Bryn Mawr, which is Welsh for "Large Hill" is appropriately named on the top of the biggest hill in this area. While the scenery atop the hill is majestic and worth a visit for the view alone, the hill can get windy, so they can't cater to wedding events. You'll note the hill and wind depicted on their logo (which I thought was an octopus tentacle...nope!). But for a wine tasting in the Eola-Amity Hills region, this is a phenomenal venue. The current iteration of Bryn Mawr is relatively new, with current owners in place for the past 14 years or so. I think it's safe to say the wines have hit their stride and this place is up-and-coming. We did a delightful tasting with an engaging tasting room lady who enchanted us with her knowledge and love of the location. Some tasting rooms are getting pretty minimalist with their service orientation (which I call 'slug and chug'), but not here. Bryn Mawr was welcoming and interesting, like having a knowledgeable friend with us on the visit. On a tour through Willamette Valley, we felt this stop had the best overall experience and wines on our little journey. We tend to favor red wines, but we were fans of the entire tasting lineup, and would happily take home any of them. Price relative to value was very good here, with the tasting fee waived with purchase of a few bottles (which we found easy to do). I do miss the winery days of yore with $5 tastings that included a souvenir glass, but there ya go. Nothing gold can stay. Please do reserve yourself a stop, if you'd like a great winery visit. read more

Disappointed with my visit to this winery. Although it was a beautiful location the service was not great. I was with a larger party that was seeking to purchase a few bottles and requested a taste before purchasing to make sure I liked it, I was told they wouldn't open a bottle for tastes. Every winery I've been to before has always allowed a taste before purchase. As my party was leaving a few of us overheard the staff gossiping about us. They were making fun of us taking pictures outside and said at least it would bring in more business, and asking each other how we even found their winery. This was extremely upsetting to hear and I don't think I would want to return. read more

Very beautiful winery with a great view but the only food option is a chartreuse board which is not an option for those with dietary restrictions or vegans. We tried bring a snack (granola and banana) from the car because we saw people at another table with a zip lock bag of goodie and a Tupperware dish but Immediately someone came over and said we can only eat what they sell. I can't drink without eating so we left. Not sure why we got picked on and the other table didn't. read more

Such a fabulous selection of wines, and the staff are fabulous too! The views are insanely gorgeous, and that is not an exaggeration. Tucked in the hills just barely outside of central Salem. They are knowledgeable and friendly, members were friendly, and the atmosphere was very laid back and welcoming. I didn't taste anything that I didn't enjoy (except the Temp but that's cus I'm a native Oregonian and I prefer my cooler climate wines ;)) I ended up signing up for a membership on my first ever visit there because everyone was friendly and there was a great diversity of wines to taste. It would be hard to miss any palate here given the nature of their sourcing, both estate and elsewhere. Very impressed and will definitely return! PLUS - complimentary cheese pairings, which I very much enjoy. And the prices are reasonable for absolutely delectable wines. read more

Bryn Mawr is beautiful! They have a great indoor space, a nice patio, and a courtyard to enjoy a tasting, glass or bottle service, and a charcuterie board is offered for $20. We got a Bright & Fresh flight ($20) and The Bold & the Beautiful flight ($20). We ended up buying a bottle of Rosé of Pinot Noir for $25, which removed the cost of one of the flights. Overall we spent $65 for a bottle, two flights, a charcuterie board, and a beautiful view. The employees were attentive and very helpful. I highly recommend! read more

What a LOVELY place!! Their wine is top notch and the tasting room is brand new. Clean bathrooms and sexy interior. The winery overlooks the rolling hills of grapes and trees. It's a great place for pictures. Come with a date or a group of friends. What I love most about this place is that it's family owned. They truly care about what they do and have built a beautiful place to do it. David, the tasting room and wine club manager is so knowledgeable and really sweet. He takes you through the tasting step by step and can happily answer any questions for you. The Lauers are frequently on property and have named some of their wines after their children, which is super cute. Even the art on the bottles is made by the baby of their wine maker, Rachel! Oh, and tiny bits of complementary cheese comes with the tasting! I would def be back. read more

I can't wait for their new tasting room to open, since the experience is so nice in the wine cellar area. We sat at cork and barrel tables while David explained each wine. We had some cracker and cheese bites complimentary with our tasting. This was one winery where I liked the reds and whites both, so I joined their club, others in the group purchased rose, white and Pinot Noirs. This was a big hit with our family! We also saw the wine fermentation area and could "hear" the action. One brother and sister at the winery had a competition going on for whose wine you like best, so you can vote, and someone gets bragging rights! This winery is worth a stop! read more

So I'm not a wine conesuer but I enjoy a quality reserve Pinot. None the lesser the views from hear give an incredible site line to the coastal valley openings of the Van Duzer range. A beautiful gem of the Willamette Valley! One of the few wineries along this hill that face west instead of east, so your views of the coastal range are fantastic. Brand new tasting room, fantastic staff (make sure to ask for Dave!), and Rachel their winemaker is one of the best in the valley (our favorite wines are the Krista's Block Pinot, Dolcetto, and their new bubbly rose!). Do not go there if you are a little loud after 3 wine tastings . Told us too loud and there was no one else there but us. We had a driver to make sure that we did not drive high. Not sure what there problem was but maybe the hostess had a hot date. One wine I had was really good but that's about all I can say. Good luck in the future. We could all walk, talk and laugh. I visited Bryn Mawr a couple years ago when the new owners came in and have to tell you that this is one fantastic boutique winery that is going to explode with good press and followers very quickly. Their Pinots have the most beautiful aromas that literally envelop your senses. I recently took my wife out to the Joel Palmer House for a "super-date" and we took a bottle of Bryn Mawr's 2006 reserve Pinot with us. I have to say that the we uncorked one special bottle of wine that made the evening perfect. There is a hand crafted, earthy, rich, round distinction in their wines--and they have a fragrant nose that is unlike no other. Their 2006-08 reserves are absolutely rich and fit for royalty, their first year for chardonnay --delicious (and it was that good--you gotta be kidding me!)l, and how did they pull off such a terrific 2008 tempranillo? Their estate pinot doesn't break the bank and is wonderful and unique on its own. If you haven't visited their winery yet it's a must. With so many to choose from--go to the good ones. Bryn Mawr is a great winery and worth the trip no matter where you live. Their wine maker Rachael has got something going on as she's passionate about her craft and is extremely personable. And the owners Jon and Kathy are fabulous: knowledgeable, brilliant in the art of wine and just pleasant people too. Somehow they make your visit the best stop of your day. Nice pours, great conversation, people friendly, stunning views, and--fabulous small lot wines. Open every day now and their wine is what you pull out of the cellar for the special occasions. I am looking forward to seeing the completion of their new additions to their tasting room/house and deck and it has been fun watching the expansion of their vineyards. Solid Pinots and a good Chardonnay offering an excellent QPR. The hosts were gracious, even though we arrived only a few minutes before closing time on Memorial Day. A great visit and tour of Bryn Mawr Vineyards led by a very knowledgeable young man called David. He explained the growth of the property including the new and beautiful tasting room and first class processing and bottling facility - he was clearly proud to be a part of the entire operation. His pouring and explanation of their wines was so helpful that I am sure we brought home the perfect wines for our holiday season. The wines tasted great! The warmth of the tasting room with a roaring fire would make it a perfect winter tasting destination to find holiday wines and gifts. read more

We stopped in here after finding a different winery nearby was closed. It was a really fun and unique tasting for multiple reasons. First, we were in the wine cellar! Second, we were able to be seated at a round high top table with our small group, as were all the other tasters at their own tables, rather than crowded around a tasting bar. Third, they have a friendly competition where you can vote for the better pinot between the two that are named after the son and daughter in the family. They have a serious sibling rivalry going on. Fourth, the bathroom is outside! 'Twas a portapotty (until they expand their tasting room). Very clean and not an issue for me. We were served little nibbles of smoked fontina, blueberry Havarti and marcona almonds (I think I have those correct) while we sipped (came with our $10 pp tasting fee). In addition to some solid pinot noirs, a standout for me was their pinot noir rosé which we brought home a bottle of. So tasty! Bryn Mawr also saved the day by selling Wine Skins, which we needed as we quite drastically underestimated the number of bottles we wanted to bring home from our Oregon trip. They were a great deal at $3 each and I'm pretty sure we cleared out their stock, whoops. We really enjoyed the friendly woman who poured and chatted with us. This was a smaller, more intimate tasting and very enjoyable. read more

My favorite kind of winery. We stopped in here on our way to wine country and it was such a nice experience. It is a small, family-owned vineyard and the wines were delicious. Really nice, down-to-earth guy owns the place and poured our tasting along with some cheese and almonds. I normally don't like whites, but even those were tempting to take home.
