Been going to BS HairShop for almost four years. I lived about an hour away but by a friend's recommendation I decided it was worth the drive. John Peter and RJ were in a rented salon room that just barely fit two stylist chairs and a hair wash station. My friend and I would carpool for about an hour and cram in together for Saturday morning appointments. Saturday mornings were always and still a blast with the BS HairShop's welcoming and genuine staff. Their complimentary bellinis and mimosas definitely don't hurt. At first, I had virgin dirty blonde hair and after my first incredible haircut I decided to go back for my first hair dye - a balayage. I was super nervous... John and RJ have both done an incredible job of answering all my questions and educating me on everything from color and treatments to products and styling. It came out LIKE A DREAM. Since then, I've only trusted John with my hair. I was still in college and lived pretty far so only saw them when I could afford it and could drive up. (Once a year, if I was lucky) Post-graduation, I happened to get a job in Broward and found an apartment a five minute drive from their new location. (Total coincidence, but boy am I grateful!) Now I'm able to get Olaplex treatments regularly and have noticed such an improvement in my hair. Their new location is GORGEOUS and spacious and they have many more stylist and washing stations. Their new additional staff members are just as helpful, knowledgeable, and fun! I turned my boyfriend onto their expertise and he had his first haircut in four years and first blow dry EVER right before my best friend's wedding!! Now he's a loyal customer, regularly going for Olaplex treatments. His hair looks and feels so amazing and he truly seems way more confident! A few weeks ago I got sick of my blonde hair and decided to give brown a try. John made sure I knew what I was getting myself into and only applied a semi-permanent dye a few levels darker to avoid damage and make sure it'd be easier if I didn't completely love it. Well, I LOVED it. He said if it faded and I wanted it darker he'd go a level darker. Clear and transparent, always!! He was right, and now I wanna go darker. Honestly, I'm one of those "do whatever you want" clients who has no idea what she wants and hopes it turns out well. Luckily, every time I've done that with John it has turned out AMAZING. When I want something new, he has me find pictures that best match what I'm thinking of. Both him and RJ have thorough consultations with me and other clients to make sure everyone's happy and on the same page. After all this time, he truly knows how to match my hair in shape and color to my skin tone. He understands my style and low maintenance hair habits and makes sure whatever he does will match. They take SO much pride in their salon and their #1 priority is truly the health of their clients' hair. All these clients ranting and raving are genuine af. Alright are you looking to just get the job done or are you looking to get it done right? Are you looking to be a part of a salon whom you can go to for all your hair needs--a one stop shop? Well ladies and gentlemen...this is it. I've waiting some time to post this review so that I can have several experiences to speak from. 1- Called for a color, haircut and blow-dry a few months ago. RJ gave me the low down on how they work. Main goal--hair health. How refreshing right? They are more invested in my hair than even me. They will not operate unless the hair is healthy. I came in she inspected my hair and prescribed the following: cut off all my dead dried brassy orange hair and 3 oloplexes prior to dye day. That day I received a great haircut and one of the best blowdrys everrr. I felt so glamorous. 2- Dye day-- this women took her timeeee. She painted my hair yall with every stroke she was patient and percise. I was none the less very happy with my new hair color. Of course, concerned with the health of my hair I had another round of oloplexes and Shanece (their apprentice) does a great job of doing as well as recommending great products and things to do with your hair at home to keep it healthy and beautiful. Ps. I only like when Shanece does my oloplexes. And it may seem like a simple job but I think you need to be good at product placement and letting me know what's the status of my hair and what it's lacking. Thank you Shanece. 3- Availability/booking-- making appointments is a one of a kind experience here. We text and we call. RJ is so amazing at this. There have been times where I need to get in or need to make a last minute appt and we will go back and forth with our schedules until it's done and she doesn't even seem phased by it. Who does that?? She will make sure she makes it happen and that does not go unnoticed. BS hairshop cares. They care about their clients, they care about hair and they care about outcomes. Im about that life. More-- they also tools and products for purchase. Bought my amazing brushes from here. Furthermore more they offer blow dry classes! Which I am going to book very soon. I only discovered BS HairShop a couple of weeks ago, but it have been there several times, and it already feels like home to me. The shop is small, in a salon of suites on Pines & Flamingo. However, very soon, BS will will moving to a much larger space in Cooper City. I hope they will keep the same customer friendly, service oriented feeling! BS HairShop consists of brother and sister, John Peter and RJ, who take care of the hair. Patrick takes care of everything else including appointments and making the most delicious coffee! John and RJ are not just hairdressers, they are "hair doctors". They will actually prescribe what will work for your hair. They will do something I rarely see hair professionals do anymore. They actually spend time with their clients. On your first visit they will give you a full consultation regarding the health of your hair, how you envision your hair to be, and how that can be accomplished. John and RJ will not just sell you expensive treatments. They want to do what is actually healthy for your hair! Yet they are still experienced, skillful, and talented stylists, having worked at top salons in Washington DC and Miami. In the last two weeks, I have been to this shop six times! Absolutely outstanding service! My case was very difficult, since I have previously dyed my hair red and then added dark brown on top of it. My goal was to get rid of the red and get more natural color. Since my hair is very fine, it was very dangerous to do. RJ and John Peter explained me the whole process inside out and we're very careful not to add any extra damage to my hair (which I appreciate very much). Warning: this is a long review but well worth the read! If you are a woman you know one of the worst things that can happen is a "Hair Disaster!" Mine happened right before the holiday! A few months before, my 10+ year rockstar hairdresser decided to move into real estate. Well, right before her last day, we decided to cut my middle of my back long hair to just below my ears. I LOVED it! Flash forward to Christmas...I needed to find someone new to keep my new look going. I researched and found someone who after reading hundreds of 5 star reviews, felt like was the girl for me. Well - it was a complete and utter disaster! My color and hair cut were so bad, I cried! Not only because of how bad it was but the fact that I was about to leave for London and Paris for the holiday on my husbands first Europe trip. I could not imagine looking like this in all the photos! I gave the girl a second chance - my color was a little better but my haircut was uneven and still BAD! Mind you it was Saturday before Christmas and I desperate so back to yelp I went - I found "Brother and Sister" Salon. I called and "Sister" answered and I explained my story - and I let her know that I COMPLETELY understood if they couldn't help me but if there was any chance they could fix my haircut, I would be forever grateful. Jennifer aka "Sister" said to come in about 45 min later and they would take a look at my "situation" and see what they could do to help but couldn't promise anything! I was so excited at their kindness, I almost cried right then even without a commitment to "fix me." John Peter had a number of people waiting but immediately saw what was wrong when I arrived before I even sat on his chair - one side as longer than the other, wasn't angled on my jaw line, to short behind me ear, etc, etc, etc. About 45 min later he invited me to his chair - we talked about my color and what we would do next time but then he meticulously dry cut and fixed my situation! "Voila!" I as ready for Europe and didn't need to wear a hat in every photo! I hugged John Peter with tears in my eyes! He said - "It's better but not perfect with the small amount of time I had but when you come back I promise we will make it perfect!" How sweet is that????? I can't say everyone will get accommodated in a "hair emergency" but I can genuinely say that these two are so kind and thoughtful that they went out of their way for a complete stranger! In this day and age that is so rare! I will definitely post a follow-up after my next visit so you can see perfection! Look it may sound shallow but when you don't think you look your best it isn't easy to pose for a million photos! I went to Genesis salon a few months ago after reading countless reviews about how great they were. They completely destroyed my hair, which was healthy before I walked in. My hair ended up looking nothing like what I asked for and felt like straw. There's a reason I have no before pictures...It was confined to a bun for 2 months until I decided to do something about it. After an initial consultation and long discussion day-of my appointment, RJ took my overprocessed, weirdly cut hot mess of hair and turned it into #hairgoals! I'm embarrassed to say that it's taken 2+ years to write this review, but better late than never- Right?! I first started my relationship with BS HairShop in 2015. I had recently moved to Pembroke Pines and I was looking to find that one stylist that could give me blonde hair while keeping it healthy. For years I had been going to stylists who would give me the blonde I wanted, but eventually it would get damaged and we'd have to cut it all off. It was awful because although my hair was the color I expected, I would have to sacrifice length to have it. (Negotiating between length and color is not something that I was satisfied with) I finally walked into BS HairShop and found the answers to all my prayers. I came in with short, damaged hair and I asked RJ: " Do you think it's impossible to have long, healthy, blonde hair?" She smiled and said, "It's not impossible, but we will have to be patient to get there." The simple fact of hearing "it's not impossible" was enough to give me and my hair hope again. Needless to say, RJ and I have been inseparable since day 1. She not only met, but exceeded my expectations. My hair had never been so healthy, long and blonde!!!! Aside from doing amazing work, RJ also takes her time to teach you techniques on how to prolong your blow dry, style your hair (Curly or Straight), and how to maintain the integrity/health of it. This is hands down the most wonderful salon experience I've ever had. I've been to salons in Dubai, Hong Kong , New York, California and in the Caribbean and the BS hair shop has really made an impression on how a salon should be. Firstly it's not a traditional salon where you walk in and have your hair cut. They schedule an initial consultation where the stylist sits and talks to you about your lifestyle (hairstyle that's easy to maintain if you have small children and not much time) . No. 5- No, you did not spend 10 minutes talking to me about Olaplaex and how you strive to keep your Yelp reviews at 5 you spent 35 minutes to be exact. I walked in exactly at 9:29am and walked out at 10:05am. 6- Yes, you lack big time in customer service- I come from a world where staff, owners and managers MAKE THINGS HAPPEN. Not just a dry apology for dropping the ball 7- No, rushing through an appt is NEVER ideal; 8- A true customer service business would have done anything to make it right--right there and then; would have adjusted their schedule to accommodate the customer after messing up big time. I walked in looking like Javier Bardem, and I walked out looking a whole lot better! I walked out looking younger and feeling a whole lot more confident in myself, how much better could that be? My former hairdresser moved out of town but I actually thought she was pretty good. However, without mentioning any names, she wasn't. She had a good personality but I was never happy with my hair. I went to Yelp and the overwhelming positive reviews of this place made me make a phone call and just talking over the phone it felt so right! Not only did they make my hair look up-to-date, edgy but still professional, I had fun and enjoyed who they are. They actually seem like really cool people and the environment has a great vibe. This brother and sister duo, is not your typical hairstylist. If you want cookie cutter, this is not the place. Wow! This is a first I have ever heard a salon refuse to set an appointment for haircut because they do not cut hair unless parents are clients. I explained that we just found them on Yelp and looking to try their Samson based on the reviews. I was told very matter of fact -- yeah we can't cut their hair unless we were clients and I'm we can't be clients since it's our first time?! Go figure. This is without first asking me if we are willing to or will eventually get haircuts... this is by far NOT the best first time experience to give if you are truly about being customer friendly. Had Patrick bothered to ask more questions he would realize that we were looking for a new place since we were new to the area. I guess he assumed my 11 yr old daughter and 4 yr old son are hard difficult to cut -- even though he didn't bother to ask if they are use to getting their haircut like they are. Also didn't bother to realize that my wife, my older son and I all will need services as well. SMH I guess a policy is a policy but the poor handling of situation and matter of fact responses -- left a lot to be desired. They may feel that the good reviews has afforded them the ability to say no to a family of 5. Wish them best of luck -- hope that over confidence doesn't cost them in the long run. Wonderful brother and sister, John Peter cut my hair and finally someone understood and knew the need of a curly hair like mine, he explained what he was going to do first and why, and i really loved that. The creativity flows, you the customer are the recipient of their collaboration. I went in after a pretty bad experience with another salon, I was blown away by the difference when I walked in. Natural light, clean, and focused only on their customer. I was early for my appointment and was glad as I got to watch them work. A women with basic long hair and a bored attitude suddenly became animated as her hair was being cut. By the time her cut was over, she was beaming and her hair was better than Giselle! Another person had a dry trim to just touch up, something that's difficult for stylists who aren't as talented. Perfect. I've had my color done and each time I leave I feel good about myself. I just recently moved to South Florida and was anxious about finding a new hair stylist! I am SO happy that I ended up at BS Hair Salon! I have never had a stylist take so much time talking to me and trying to get to know me so they knew exactly what I wanted. I haven't always been the best in explaining the look I'm going for but RJ made sure we were on the same page. As a new resident of S. Florida, I was sad to leave my tried and true hairdresser back home in Chicago. There are not too many "natural" redheads around S. Florida, so I was nervous to find a hair colorist that specialized in red hair. especially someone who wouldn't make my locks look fire engine red...or worse an unnatural kool aid color..not my style. I was SO happy to come across BS Hair Shop via yelp, and my nerves were quickly calmed when I texted back and forth with RJ to schedule a consultation. I met John-Peter and I loved his warm personality. He truly listened to my hair goals, lifestyle (busy mom), and personal style. He was able to squeeze me into the next available appointment that following weekend and I had a semi-permanent color and trim. I loved the end result--healthy and natural looking color. This review is long overdue. I have been going to see John Peter since March and have been a happy hair customer ever since! My hair has had its fair share of damage from frequent hair coloring and highlights from a previous salon and John Peter has managed to transform my hair into a more manageable, healthy, and beautiful balayage. From start to finish of your appointment, John Peter puts you at ease. (There definitely a lot of trust when it comes to hair color). He attentively listens to your expectations and puts his own sense without being overbearing or taking control of the appointment. I can highly recommend him for anyone wanting to try balayage hair. Let me start by saying RJ and John Peter are the DEFINITION of Passion and Care. It's very clear that they love what they do and they want to make sure their clients love them too. From the first phone call to book my appointment, I knew this would be my forever salon. The staff is so friendly, RJ called me prior to my appointment to walk through what I wanted and what to expect, she does not promise anything she can't do and gives her honest opinion on everything. She took her time to talk me through all my issues and gave me great feedback. The entire experience was something I have never seen before, I learned so much about my hair and the possibilities of what I can do so that I don't only love my hair today, but can replicate the experience on my own and love it everyday. This is a very different hair salon, especially in south florida, and that's a good thing. I am from the Northeast and it has been very difficult to find a hair salon that delivers. My hair was in bad shape from previous salon experiences. I came in with pictures of what I wanted- and I didnt get it. And thats a good thing. John Peter is one of the most passionate hair stylists I've ever met and he gives you what you need before you get what you want. He came up with a plan to get my hair in the best shape possible and slowly work our way to the goal look. I (very begrudgingly) let him take the wheel and chop a good bit of my hair off- it looks and feels soooo much better! He also took the time to show me how to style and train my hair to look its best. And over the next weeks and months we will be working towards my goal photo without my hair getting damaged again.
