My 31 year old daughter was found to have a very large ovarian tumor. She was anxious and scared, as well as the rest of the family, afraid of the 'unknown' and the possibility of the tumor leaving her unable to have babies. She had a planned surgical admit for an urgent ovarian tumor removal and traveled to BSA Amarillo from New Mexico for surgery. Her surgery was performed by an expert in GYN Oncology, Dr T. Farzan. Her experience at BSA was AMAZING! Dr Farzan was so skilled, he removed the tumor mass in it's entirety, and was able to leave her with her other ovary and uterus intact! Sweet news! Worst experience to after lumbar surgery. The care sucked they me sit in pee all night an even after asking to be cleaned up. They let my iv loose power an my blood start going back up. They wouldnt check my drain bulb an I was having to dump it in the trash can. The tech at night was bad. Nurse made me think I thought I pissed myself an checked my foolly an said it was a drip of pee but I ran down into my bed which I have pictures of it. My room was disgusting cause of having to clean my self up with blankets an they just let it sit on the floor all night. Only think the night tech did was empty my piss bottle once. I was awake when they said I was sleeping soundly. Didnt see the nurse the next day for 3 hrs after I finally got up cause I needed pain medication. Whats even sadder is I had to call the er to call the floor I was on to get help when I pissed myself. I had no working call buttons. Worst stay ever. read more

Telephone assistance is beyond horrible. The paid staff either don't speak English well or will not answer questions about what number to call with questions. After being routed to 12 different numbers, I finally got a partial answer to my question. Please supervise the "call center" people (or whatever they are called) to be less rude and, if they don't know anything, just say that instead of transferring to different departments. This place is just unbelievably bad, especially for older folks. Between the rude, dismissive, uncaring nurses with zero empathy, to the uninformative, uncaring, lying on medical records hospitalists to the "cleaning" people who absolutely do not clean those rooms, to the "patient advocates " who don't answer the phone or call you back, and did not provide one ounce of help in any form, this place was a nightmare for my father. And his surgeon from TTU was absolutely horrible. If you're an older person you might as well just go lie down in a field somewhere and die. That's how you'll be treated there. Nobody cares sat all! I went in on 2-25-2026 I COULD HAVE DIED IF I WOULD HAVE LISTENED TO MY DOCTOR. I am 52 years old. I have ALL my female parts. I was cramping for 2 days spotted for 2 days when I came in over a 4 day period. I told them I felt like I was in labor. I was in so much pain I had 2 rounds of MORPHINE in the waiting area. I had a SONO and A CT with contrast. I was sent home with this IMPOSSIBLE/CRAZY Verdict. (I had blood in my urine due to my colon (colitis) Next day my husband took me to NWTH They did a CT and a SONO they found fibroids on my uterus. JUST LIKE I TOLD THEM AT BSA I don't know how it was missed!!!! But I should have had a emergency hysterectomy. I am getting one now. AND I WILL NEVER GO TO BSA AGAIN! Items gone missing when changing rooms: told all should have been turned into security and kept there. Didn't happened. Monetary value of replacing said items $1,081. Phone, charger, clothes, shoes, glasses, handmade quilt, wallet, $220 in cash. Said they needed receipts of purchase: SERIOUSLY. You are a joke! read more

My mom had a heart procedure on March 20th. When I came back to recovery she had a bloody swollen lip and the nurse said it was because her lips were dry and her lips stuck to her teeth and when she opened her mouth they stuck to her teeth, ha. No way that is what happened. It bleed the whole time and we had to ask for medicine to get it to stop. Partly it kept bleed because of the blood thinner she was previously taking. I understand that. What I am upset about is they didn't tell the truth and would not own what happened. They either dropped something on her or (I know she had 2 tubes down her throat) they taped one tube down and over to the side and when they removed the tape carelessly it ripped her lip open and gave her a fat bloody lip. Yes it is minor in the big scheme of things but lying about is not good, shame on them! This picture is from 2 days after her surgery. The swelling has gone down mostly. Also the preregistration the previous week was poor. The instructions were contradictory with the Dr who was doing the procedure with the anesthesiologist . No one explained that the instructions were from the anesthesiologist which would have been very helpful for my mom to understand. Note: my mom is 84 years old. The emergency room is full of Rude doctors that have ZERO respect or compassion for their patients. My 1 year old son Diagnosed with double pneumonia was sent to the emergency room from the urgent care and admitted to the hospital. The doctor took a 1 minute evaluation with my son and sent him home with NO breathing relief & No Treatment. The Doctor chuckled at my wife and said "Don't get your hopes up, I am Not Admitting him for this." I am terrified for my son's life and they laugh at us!!! I have never felt so hopeless and enraged in my life. The BSA Emergency Room is no place for someone in need of help. Our stay has included miscommunication and doctors "forgetting" to cancel an order therefore medication was given WITHOUT family consent (this was done by Dr C. Yalamanchili). Also, if you have Covid you should definitely not go here. Their visitation is limited to 1 visit for 30 minutes. And you have to fight to get a damn doctor to call family- even though the patient has NO idea what is going on. read more

I have been in the hospital approximately 7days on the 4th floor. I was just here in July and the quality of the food and what it tastes like were not desirable sour, tuff and cold when received. The menu has not changed in years. I think management needs to taste their own dishes. As far as my Care during this visit the doctors are wonderful and many of the nurses and staff are great however night shift giving meds out at 10:30 at night when people already want to be asleep is not possible. I would suggest looking at the process and see if it can improve. Overall, BSA is great and every other aspect. read more

Three months ago I was to have a CT scan and was required to pay half of the cost ($716) before the procedure. I ended up having the procedure elsewhere and BSA will not refund the $716. They also billed my insurance for another service but they failed to use my correct insurance number by one digit. I've had different experiences at BSA. For example, I've had bad treatment in the ER, but also good. It depends what they got going on, the people on duty & if they're tired. Pretty much everyone says that at every hospital. For Imaging appointments, I've always had a quick & courteous visit. Once my mom was there for a week with heart problems. "Jo" is a regular staff member at the entry that controls patient visits. She's such a sweetheart so nice & kind knowing how important my time with my mother was. I brought her lunch one day bc she was so kind letting me stay at night for a few extra minutes past the curfew. It's that kind of stuff that warms your heart. The triage nurse that we had in the ER was polite, courteous, knowledgeable, and kind. Her name was Faith. They were very cautious and meticulous with Covid precautions, and I appreciated that very much. When we got back to a room, our nurse's name was Annie. She was prompt, communicated very well, and was very knowledgeable also. Dr. Hollingsworth was also excellent. He sat down, listened to what we had to say, attended to our needs and concerns, and kept us informed about what was going on. He was very on top of pain control, and helped us with follow up about what we needed to do once we left the emergency room. my dad is in the hospital right now. he was admitted on 8/29/24 the day after my mom was discharged from there after being there since 8/23/24 with seziures. then he had a stroke!.... they put him on seziure precautions 3 days AFTER admitted (with out telling pt or wife why). then they put a pulseox on him (again with out telling why) when asked they were advised the dr wrote an order for it.. so we asked the dr they denied writing that order.... then we are still waiting to be moved to rehab floor.. after an order being put into epic in his chart where my mom and him can both see it! after not being moved when confrotned the nurse about it they said its insurances fault..... ER REVIEW. GO TO ER ON SONCY...Heck, drive to Lubbock's ER... it will be faster. 73 YO diabetic woman falls 5ft hitting head on concrete. Vomiting, not able to stand let alone walk, homemade bandage over head wound, pain in her lower back and tailbone to the point she can't sit properly, shaking to he point she looks like she is convulsing. Signs of concussion and shock that a two year old could figure out. More than an hour before vitals were even taken. People in scrubs literally standing around... if they aren't needed get someone hired that can actually wield a thermometer. Yes, there are several people waiting, none severe - and it is by no means packed. We made a huge mistake figuring bigger was better. Two hours now and no one has even bothered looking at the wound. Finally had a CT... then sent back to a waiting room. We had to go get an old blanket out of the truck to help with the shivering.... But you better believe they came by for insurance and a credit card... in the waiting room. Almost at hour three, we received the CT results.... VIA EMAIL!!! Fractured skull and damage to a cervical vertebrae.... STILL NO DOCTOR OR NURSE past triage. Finally the poor triage nurse comes to get her at 2.75 hrs..., literally starts wheeling her away with no communication though. We were like... uhh WHERE ARE YOU GOING??? In a triage room now, waiting for a room "where the doctors are." ‍ Still zero concern about wound or lower back. A woman in the radiology waiting room has been here for 6.5 hours with a broken arm. Again... go somewhere that cares. I'd love to be back in Fort Worth where hospitals dealt with 10x the people, in MUCH less space... with much faster results. Sooo... hour 5.5 so far, No pain meds for skull fracture, still puking, bleeding, and to dizzy to walk. ER doc popped in to tell us he had to call a neurosurgeon for advice, nurse told us she doesn't believe in the COVID vaccine- after all, she wears a mask and the vaccine might give her something that she could pass on to her young child...Because it would, of course be better than giving it COVD. AYKM?? We also got "We can't clean your wounds until the doctor writes it down and tells us to. You'll have to ask him if you want them cleaned." Oh and even though half the triage rooms are empty, we are super busy. ??? What planet are we on??? 6.5 hours after arriving we finally saw a PA that was wonderful, actually explained what we received via email/My Chart. Wonders of wonders- looked at the patient and did an exam. She was a miracle and the reason this went up to two stars. Being admitted for observation and further CTs for inner cranial bleeding. Had to visit the Emergency Room this week while on a road trip from Washington state to a Florida and found myself in this Emergency room in Amarillo. it was literally the worst experience of my life. The Staff was completely unprofessional and outright rude. Started with triage where I was taken to have my blood pressure and temp while my adult son told them briefly what was going on. They never confirmed anything with me or asked what was going on. They didn't ask about my medical history. They did ask if I was allergic to anything at which point I told them I was and provided that info. I tried to give them personal info and was told they didn't want that info to give to administration. They then said they would put me in a triage room that was quiet so I could wait and I was ignored for 3 hours, not to be checked on at all. When I rang the bell to check how long till I would be seen, was told that there are other people there in pain to and they had to wait 7 hours and I was looking at another hour. I ask for an ice bag because I was in extreme pain and the nurse cane back and threw it at me and left again. After almost 2 hours I called the nurse again only to be told to get over it and wait. Finally after almost 3 1/2 hours of waiting in a triage room I was taken to a regular room that the dr would visit. The nurse asked me questions at which point I was able to tell what was going on and why the visit and what led up to it. She said none of that's in here and I said I know I was not triaged properly at which she didn't like and her tone of voice changed and she became dismissive. I told her the meds I was allergic to but again nothing was put into my records As I was getting settled, I once again asked how long until the dr came in as I was in extreme pain and was told "when she gets here, she's busy and there were other people" after an hour, the dr came in to tell me that she was technically my dr but that she was off in 30 minutes but had to check on me but wasn't going to do anything. I told her I was in extreme pain and had already waited almost5 hours not to mention being in pain for several days with it escalating at which point she completely dismissed my pain as "simple" and "no big deal". I then tried to give her a more detailed history of my situation at which she cut me off numerous times. There were 2 things in my Medical history that she wasn't familiar with that I had to educate her on. She then said they give a certain pain med for my situation which is exactly the meds I told her I was allergic to at which she said well we can give you Benadryl as well. Almost 6 hours of sitting there in extreme pain and having to advocate for myself while in pain and vomiting as well as educate the dr, I finally received pain meds. Throughout the entire experience I offered my personal medical history, access to my chart online, to my bloodwork since I was from out of state and was dismissed constantly. Definitely my worst experience in a medical setting by people who should be there to care for you when you are at your worst moment. read more

My son has had two ER visits by ambulance to this hospital. Without getting into the details of his injury etc, I will just say that I put him on a flight to Houston so that he could get good care after he was discharged. He sat in the ER for about 6 hours while they did nothing to treat the actual reason he was brought there. In addition he was discharged with a dislocated shoulder and fractured shoulder this last admission and given a couple of days of pain meds. I had to take him to an ER in Houston so they could put his arm back into socket. Horrible and I resent the cost of the ER in Houston which was totally due to lack of care at BSA. Not to mention he was in awful pain for two days while walking around with a dislocated shoulder. I could go on for days, but if you are seriously ill or injured and can make it a few hours without care, you would be best served by traveling by plane or car to Houston or Dallas. read more

Over the last 3 months I have been seen in the BSA ER three times and been admitted twice for life-threatening conditions. The care I received from most of the doctors was fine, but the rest of the experience was abysmal. The nurses and staff assigned to my case were the absolute worst I have ever seen in my life. I was left in a bed of urine and feces. My requests for water went unanswered for 15 hours despite the fact that I was critically ill and severely dehydrated . As a physician myself with 40 years of experience , I have NEVER seen or experienced the level of incompetence, arrogance, and failure to deliver even the mostBADIC care. I think I would have received better care in a third world country. When I complained to the Risk management person, Brenda, her response was, "I'm sorry you feel that way." "I'm sorry you feel that way" may sound like an apology but dissect the semantics and you'll find it's quite the opposite. It's actually the pinnacle of passive-aggressive buck-passing, an anti-apology, and it's everywhere. Watch any reality TV show and it will crop up eventually (it's ubiquitous in the Real Housewives franchises). On social media there are thousands of instances (most of them wholly genuine responses to "I feel sad/depressed/lonely" in which case it is, of course, perfectly acceptable) but it's the insidious usage - the substitution of "sorry you feel that way" for a real apology - that is so pesky and problematic. I'm not alone in being triggered by it. Plenty of people online have started to call it out as insincere. My IVl ines were allowed to run dry over and over. (My husband, also a very well-respected and well-regarded physician, tied to help, but he was ignored just as much as I was!!! He was a witness to everything that happened, but he was helpless to stop it because of the way the hospital rules are set. He was not my physician, so he could not order the correct medicines. He could not increase my IV rate even though I was terribly dehydrated. He could not order a blood transfusion even though my hemoglobin was only 7, about 1/3 the normal level, and I was so weak and dizzy that I required assistance just to stand up. He could not ensure that I was treated with even a modicum of dignity.) The sites where the IVs were placed developed phlebitis IN LESS THAN 24 hours,, and now, subsequent experienced phlebotomists have been unable to access previous healthy veins due to scarring. My clothes were yanked off of my body without asking or receiving my permission even though I was alert and oriented and perfectly capable of removing my own clothes in a more dignified manner. I was forced to wear the hospital socks even though they were far too small and exacerbated my already existing plantar fasciitis. I protested and was told that it was HOSPITAL POLICY AND IT WAS REQUIRED, which is, of course, hogwash. I had driven myself to the hospital, so I was obviously competent to remove my own clothes. I was repeatedly offered the wrong medications, which I declined, and I was DENIED my own routine medicines even though I have been taking them for over a decade and they were DEFINITELY indicated fir the condition and diseases for which I was hospitalized. I cannot imagine a worse experience with mean, hateful, haughty, ignorant healthcare providers. If they didn't have a virtual monopoly on hospital beds, I would go elsewhere. One might think that I just had "bad luck" with the nurses assigned to my card, but if this were the case, then why was I treated abysmally on 3 separate occasions for 3 distinct medical problems? Repeatedly, my requests were met with stonewalling. The medications that I did finally received were only given HOURS after they were needed and ordered. I was undoubtedly the victim of serious malpractice, and I will do whatever I can to warn other people about the incredibly bad care at BSA. I have practiced medicine at over a dozen different hospitals in my lifetime. I have been a patient at several different hospitals for the births of my four children, as well as several hospitalizations for surgery and other media problems. NEVER in my life have I seen such astonishingly poor care. (This, I do not believe the problem lies with me specifically. I have never had any similar to the awful experience that BSA provided. My insurance was charged around $100,000. And for that price, I hoped they would take care of my urgent medical needs.) I have been told in the past that poor performance by healthcare providers comes from the top down. I sincerely hope that someone at the top reads this review and changes the culture of the hospital personnel such that they will meet the minimum standard of care. Based upon Brenda's buck-passing, passive-aggressive anti-apology, I doubt that my hope for improvement will be realized. I have been trying to get records of a heart ct scan, and two heart caths sent to my surgeon in Lubbock. I have been transferred by phone to several departments in the hospital and have not received any indication that they have my records or that they would send them. Not one of the three people I spoke with asked for any information to identify who I am so they could possibly access the system and search for my records. Unacceptable. My surgeon requested the records over a week ago, and there has been no response. This is literally a matter of life and death, and all I am finding is incompetence and uncaring people. read more

Recently my Father spent 4 days in BSA Hospital. Staff was mostly efficient and friendly. ER was quick and efficient, Doctor diagnosed the situation quickly and accurately. However, during the 4 days even with our constant request they never gave him a shower (he needed assistance), changed his gown or bed sheets. We left the hospital on dismissal without the shower. The bed was dirty and stained as it had been for the entire time. I have never seen a hospital that pretty much ignored cleanliness. Disappointed! read more

Came in around 830 pm with 5 patients at the most in the waiting room. My husband had an injury that was pretty much bleeding on the waiting area. Patients kept going in front of us and even little kids were getting things put in their "iv" literally in the waiting area It was 3 am in the morning till we were able to go to the back just to clean the wound and said it was too late for stitches. Please I know that we may not have been the most sick but we feel like their system sucks so please think twice before coming here. read more

Visited the emergency room last weekend with a severe allergic reaction. The ER was not busy and I was taken to triage. As I was trying to explain to triage nurses what I thought was happening to me (my eyes swelled shut, eye pain, swollen face and lips), a blond nurse with big injected lips came by and accusingly said, "Are we seeing you for just a cold and a runny nose?" I was not amused. The staff took me to a room and I saw Dr Barry pretty quickly. He was most thorough and compassionate. They started IV drugs to stop the reaction and they kept me for observation. Dr Barry thoroughly explained what happened and what to look for in the future. I appreciated him and the ER nurses greatly. Wish every visit was as smooth and effective as this one. My husband visited this ER last month and we felt his care was very sub-par. Only saw a PA. She didn't do the proper tests and we found ourselves back here the next day with a life-threatening issue. I have used BSA over the past 6 years for many different reasons. The emergency room staff is always very helpful and I feel they see me as soon as they can. All of the staff is knowledgeable and acts like they truly care about me. I have had two children at BSA and their labor and delievery unit is the top notch to me. They go above and beyond. With my last child he was born 3 months early and I was in the hospital off and on for many weeks before having him. I felt very well cared for. They made me as comfortable as possible. For a hospital the food in the cafeteria is very good. Then my son had to stay in the NICU for two months. BSA was a home away from home. I felt my baby was in the second best possible place. From the xrays, ultrasounds, labs and every area I have dealt with at BSA I am very pleased. They make dealing with health issues easier and less stressful. read more
