I was gifted these cupcakes in the hospital after I had my daughter and then I went a few months later and got my husband and I a few other things from the case to try and it is all phenomenal. Regarding their cupcakes, the cake is so moist and icing absolutely perfect. I tried a slice of their Little Italy cake with the cannoli on top and it is out of this world. My husband had a chocolate chip cookie sandwich with cookie dough filling that he said was delicious. The ladies behind the counter were super kind and helpful. Their shop is so beautiful and unique. They even offer dog bakery items! I'm glad I don't live too close to this bakery or else I'd be stopping in every day and gain 100lbs! Counting down the days until I can come back! read more

Surrounded by windows in almost all sides, it attracts the attention of those walking by as well as repeat customers who have already been through that initial experience. I am one of the second type. This is not my first time here, but the first time writing a review because I want the public to know about this fantastic place where sweet treasures can be discovered and enjoyed. The first impression when you walk in, is of how clean and organized the store is. Besides the great variety of sweet items neatly arranged, you can find the walls decorated with many artworks of many kinds and you can listen to relaxing music in the background. But this didn't just happen, a young lady and gentleman both are working arduesly bringing out the fresh cupcakes and arranging them neatly in their place. They warmly greet me and allow me to keep looking at all the items until I'm ready to make an order. While I continue looking, other customers with more experience and knowledge of the store and items come right in and order and take the items. They wrap everything so nicely that any of the items here can be bought and given as a gift to someone close. While the young man went to answer the phone, the young lady answers my question of if they still had the large cookie sandwiches that a good friend of mine and I bought last time I was here. She answers me in the affirmative and takes out a pan full of them with a transparent wrap covering them up. These things are not cheap but the taste is priceless. I ordered a couple of cookie sandwiches: one with dark chocolate and one with white chocolate. She nicely wrapped them and put them in a nice box bag with handles. I highly recommend this place when you're in the mood for something sweet or would like to buy something sweet as a gift for someone or bring something as a gift to a dinner invitation. As I was arranging a birthday celebration, the cake fell through at the last minute, and I was left eight hours to find a bakery with strawberry cake and strawberry frosting. I initially had called a few bakeries, including Bubblecake. From the first Phone Call, I was blown away at how accommodating & patient Hannah (I apologize if I mix and mismatched your names, ALTHOUGH I think I'm accurate) As the the hours FLEW by, I found myself with 70 minutes to get from Grandin, to Bubblecake (still unsure of my decision), to Best Buy (for final gift), back to Grandin, and to middle of Salem!!! As, I was on my way to Bubblecake (leaving the gas station in Grandin, because OF COURSE, my gas light) I called them and was inquiring about the cupcakes flavors, and sizes, but Kate was AMAZING! She was friendly and patient. She was explaining the size of the cupcakes with a comparison to her "fist", and because of my terrible hearing (thank you Marine Corps!), I thought she was saying fish, and finally understood "fist", so it made complete sense, and honestly helped me make my decision. When I walked into Bubblecake, I was greeted by Katie, and Hannah and up immediately. She answered all remaining questions, and helped me make my final decision. Hannah, Katie, and with the help of Ariana, BEAUTIFULLY prepared the 2 dozen of Strawberry Cupcakes with strawberry frosting in perfect packaging. Not only friendly, patient and BEYOND accommodating, but extremely proficient! The dream there is amazing, and to make it even better, everyone RACED about the cupcakes! I was at a taco shop close by and saw this place. I decided to stop here and splurge a lil bit and get something sweet. Once entering the desserts are overwhelming. I decided on banana pudding cake, blackberry cake, pecan pie, chocolate chip cookie with cream in the middle, raspberry mini cupcake. Everything was packaged beautifully! I was disappointed in the customer service of the ladies boxing everything up, one had gloves on the other one did not. One of the girls was puffing and blowing because she didn't want be there. It is rather pricey for the desserts! Once getting home and opening up each one, trying a little taste, I was hugely disappointed!!! It's much smaller than I anticipated by the photos but it's a nicely decorated quaint spot in a busy shopping plaza with super friendly service. We got the marscapone berry cake and the giant carrot cake to try out. Both were delicious! They don't have seating in that spot but the adjacent restaurant is also their property and theu allow patrons from the bakery to eat there or in the outside space. The carrot cake is enough for 3 people. No joke. This was the best carrot cake I've had in a long time. It's super dense and not too sweet. Parking is limited because it shares space in front of towers mall. They do have some disabled spots right in front of the door. Absolutely terrible. The cupcakes are way too sweet. They fill and top the cake with so much icing that the cake might as well not be there. The cookies are gross and sometimes stale. If they don't have anymore cupcakes in the back on the trays, then they grab it from the display where all the flies hang out and it's absolutely disgusting. The cupcakes arent even always fresh. They'll go about 1-2 days before selling new batches. And they advertise "always fresh!" What a joke. The service is mediocre at best. Bubblecake is a cute bakery/gift shop that serves cupcakes, cakes, cookies, and other sweets - along with candy and cute odds and ends. There is a wide selection of flavors to choose from for your sweet tooth! The staff was super nice while I decided what I wanted to get. There are so many options!! So, overall, I've tried the drunken pineapple cupcake, a Chaos cupcake (looked like a drumstick ice cream), cookies and cream cupcake, and their carrot cake. Everything is fresh and delicious. The store is at a great location. The ambiance is just what you would expect of a sweet/bakery shop. The service was alright. Someone welcomed us to the store and the girl that checked us out was nice but could have done a better job at helping us instead of just taking our order. (i.e. told us about any specials, what's popular or any recommendations.) I LOVE sweets, especially baked goods. Like LOVE. I do a cheat meal weekly and it's always with a sweet treat. I tasted the Salted Caramel White chocolate cookie sandwich and the chocolate chip cookie dough cupcake. I wanted to love them both because I have seen this place daily since moving to Roanoke. However, they were just okay. The cookie sandwich was filled with plain buttercream, which washed out the taste of the cookie. Which is unfortunate, because the cookie was great! Buttercream is good but in cookie sandwich it shouldn't wash out the taste, in my opinion. The cupcake was much of the same. Buttercream on an okay cupcake. So all in all a little bit of a let down. Wow! I was impressed with the incredible selection of flavors for the cupcakes and all the other mouthwatering looking desserts. I got the lemon and blackberry cupcake and the lemon cake was super moist and refreshing. I think there's a little too much buttercream on the cupcakes but it's personal preference. Cute cupcake store with a fun and creative vibe. Unfortunately that's the end of the good part of this review. The cupcakes didn't taste as good as they looked and I would guess they were at least a day or 2 old. The buttercream icing had a crisco-like flavor, I would guess they don't use butter. Maybe most disappointing of all was the lack of care and interest from the employees. I love bubblecakes! These cupcakes are always fresh and they have tons of yummy flavors and icing. You can't please everyone and I saw that another reviewer was unhappy with how much icing is on these cupcakes, I for one LOVE the icing so I think all that icing is fantastic. These are pretty large cupcakes so I want to make sure there is enough icing to go around to the whole thing while I'm eating it. The mini bubblecakes are cute too if you don't want all the calories or just don't want a big cupcakes you can get a few of the mini ones and try different flavors. The inside of the shop is small and quaint but decorated in a bubbly girly pink cupcake kind'a way. They also offer to host girls parties or tea parties or birthday parties in a room they have upstairs which I think is a cute touch. They feature different flavors for different seasons and holidays and offer coupons if you sign up on Facebook or through their website which is a nice way to reward loyal customers. My only con about this particular downtown location near fork in the alley is that there is almost no parking... the last time I visited I had to park wayyyy down two streets and walk. It was summer and sunny so no big deal but if it were a special occasion and I had to park and walk with cupcakes in the rain or something I would not be happy about that. read more

In a cheerful, friendly phone call, they advised us about what they could send for swift delivery. Then they beautifully boxed up a dozen cookies, added a cheery birthday card, handed it off to GrubHub for a perfect on-time delivery to his hotel. Great impact on presentation but cloyingly sweet! The cakes are moist but nothing stands out as being better than expected. It almost taste like a boxed cake mix! The frosting could be about half the amount and it would make these 100x better. There's more frosting than cake on the mini's FYI. These are great for a gift or where you need a "wow factor" but really one mini was enough because of how sweet they are. To give you an idea... in a house full of 4 teens and a few adults... they all agreed... too much sugar! Also, one last thing... I bought two dozen minis, to go... I never shook or jostled the box in any way. I got home and more than half in both boxes we're on their sides and not secured in the box! I am from out of town, and ordered a cake based on a family members recommendation. I went to look at their whole cakes on their website and there were only two options. The picture on their website did not look anything like the actual cake I received (I did not pick it up, so I was unaware until it was time to sing happy birthday). I sent an email to them the same day, no one responded. I thought they forgot to frost the cake. I called the next day, was directed to a manager, and she said that is not how they make the cake, and they had never made it (as pictured on their website) since she had worked there. I explained that the only reason I picked that cake was based on the appearance and knowing it would be something my grandmother would like. She did not, she said not to waste my money anymore buying cakes. I am greatly disappointed, she said she would let the owner know that the picture is misleading and have her call me, I have not heard back. I was expecting some sort of acknowledgement that I just spent $67 on a cake that was falsely advertised and offering a refund. Fun in bubble... of frosting! If you look at the pictures of the frosting, you'll know what I'm talking about! Just looking at them may give you diabetes. BUT... I was pleased with Bubblecake's presentation of their sweet confections. All looked so gloriously glamorous on their respective pedestals and I knew that I had quite the challenge in front of me... which ones would end up in my tummy that day? One sign immediately caught my eye, "Special of the day." When I asked what it was, the helpful lady behind the counter said, "Drunk 'n Pumpkin, pumpkin cake with Jack Daniels whiskey filling." Ok, so that was an easy choice. But there were so many others to try that I couldn't just leave with one! I knew that it wouldn't look weird for me to choose two of these gigantic cupcakes since my husband was with me, but little did they know both of them were really just for me ( I did end up sharing a FEW bites). I decided on their classic "Tiffany" cupcake, vanilla cake with almond frosting that was the obligatory "tiffany blue," topped with sugar pearls. We sat to eat the Tiffany in their seating area which was dainty and cute. I liked this cupcake... straightforwardly sweet, but a nice depth of almond flavor... and boy do I love me some almond! We took the Drunk 'n' Pumpkin home to savor for a late night snack. Once we got home (an hour away from Roanoke), I couldn't help but open the small Chinese takeout box that promised warmth and satifisfaction. Man, that sh!t was good. I really liked the texture of the cake, which was soft, but really a truer pumpkin bread in cupcake form. And that filling... I only wished they had put more in there... it was gooey, sweet and still booze-y tasting! With all that being said, I have truly set myself up for a challenge to try every single one of the cupcakes (with obvious help from the hubs). My wife and I stop by this place every other week or so this last year we have lived here. In a way it reminds us of all the comforts of home (San Diego, where we are from), we have a couple go to cupcake places in San and this place is right up there with the best as far as quality and flavors go. If you were to have asked me a month ago what I thought of this place it would have been 5 stars without much reservation (there are one or two employees who can pretty nearly be considered rude, though completely competent). What Emily and I have both experienced now is menu changes that have been very annoying. Their menu features "daily section" and a "seasonal section" we both at different times fell in love with cupcakes from the daily menu that we would expect would always find there, but would suddenly cease existing. This experience when asked about to employees would generally be met with annoyance that caused our experience at the store to be sour. It is a sad experience whenever a favorite store stops doing something you love. If Babycakes in San Diego stopped making tuxedo cupcakes I would be sad because it is a comfort reliable daily menu item. Bubblecake was very nearly the perfect place for us but the removal of comfort items and our very questioning of why they would change things was met with annoyance by employees had put me in the position of recommending this place, but having to withhold a star. read more

I'm in Roanoke once a year and stop at Bubblecake every visit. They have a wonderful variety of cupcakes, and I always get a dozen to share with friends. My all-time favorite is the plain and boring red velvet, but they also have mounds (like the candybar), creme brulee, mint chocolate, apple cinnamon, fudge brownie, blueberry, peanut butter truffle... The list goes on! These are the huge kind, not the little ones that you make in your own kitchen. The building is whimsical and pretty, decorated in black, white and, of course, pink. I found the cupcake to be moist although there was a little too much frosting and the frosting was a little too sweet. Grossest cupcakes I've ever overpaid for. It's like they took a recipe and added 12 times the necessary sugar to each component of the cupcake and decided to sell that. Yikes! I went to the original bubblecake down near Carillion and they were fantastic back then. Tasty and innovative, in a colorful Willy-wonka type shop with a cool pink door. We have been going to Bubblecake over the past 5 years and have for the most part loved it! When family/friends come in from out of town Bubblecake cupcakes were a must! However, we recently visited and noticed that their cupcakes looked different. The cake component is significantly less than it once was and much drier than it had ever been. We loved Bubblecake because they had delicious cake under all the icing; however, due to the recent downgrade in quality I am giving them 3 stars. Last year they would have been 5 stars, but the quality has noticeably dropped unfortunately. read more
