So one of my friends kept going to this restaurant and posted pictures of all the fabulous wings.. and on Wednesday they got .50 cent wings!!!! Each Wednesday it seems they have special flavor of Wing as well .. Of course I was naturally drawn to the place with the name Bubs... My white HHR name is Bubs . Bubs the tank. Lol So finally I made the leap of food faith and met up with Tim and another friend Jon as well. It's about 50ish mins from my house and it's Soo worth it .. For 10 dollars I got 15 wings .. but it gets better .. Bubs provides all you can eat (3 plate max) sides buffet. Cold and hot. I lovee the collard greens. Also I tried some pickled veggies and coleslaw. ( Kept it more low carb). Also I normally get sauce on the side and I decided to try the bacon maple sauce. And the special Alfredo sauce as well. Which everything was beyond good. I think this has been the best deal for the amount of food around. I will be returning on Wednesdays and Friday has smoked Prime Rib special as well. The service was nice. The interior definitely gives a seasoned barbecue pit vibe. But all the food was quite bland. It was as if there was no salt in any of the dishes at all. Maybe it's because I'm from Texas and my standards are really high, but everything from the potato salad to the pulled pork needed salt. I used to love this place for YEARS! I guess the owners changed awhile ago. Mother's Day I found a penny in my dirty rice. The guy barely said sorry.. he just mumbled hmmm weird.... They were out of stuff in the buffet, took forever to fill. Food is not as good IMO. Service really mediocre. Outside is FULL of garbage in the ground near the bushes.... A too quick check of Yelp showed 3 1/2 stars, should have read the latest reviews. All the side offerings were nearly empty, some of the covers were wonky and wouldn't open and close right. As mentioned there were flies, and the feeling they haven't cleaned well in quite a while. The chicken was overdone , the ribs were good. It's not the same Bubs. We have been going there for 30 years. The new owner has raised the prices, but the quality of food has gone down. The buffet looked horrible; we didn't even touch it. The dirty rice did not contain the traditional black-eyed-peas. It was a hot day and the a/c was out. To an average businessman, it's a quick fix - buy one from a big box store & throw it in. No ..... we were all sweating as we ate! Even the fans were off. We requested that he open the side door, and he did that reluctantly. Nice guy but no business sense. Not the same bubs! The girl that took our order was not welcoming at all. Made us feel uncomfortable and bothering. Not friendly at all. Tables were not clean they were sticky and not even wiped off. The meat was ok but the sides were terrible. Some bins were empty and what was there looked like they have been in the bin all day. The old bub's had much more options and always had a replenished FRESH supply They would always have fries and would constantly add more to the bin. Sad to see a once great place fall hard. Dirty dining room, flies indoors, recycling bucket (trash can) full which says they're not cleaning regularly, porch floor hasn't been swept in a long time, door windows haven't seen windex in awhile. Man behind counter biting his nails. Sides bar was just a shadow of what it used to be. Cross contamination between dishes. No potatoes, no French fries, no bread. Some hot food hot, some hot food tepid. Large container of Country Crock spread opened on counter and left for everyone's use had bits of black specs in it. Fan blowing right on it- now I figured out that the fan is to keep the flies away. Water dispenser tap is filthy and looked like 100 construction workers had poured water from it. Where is the board of health??? I totally get that it's a rough time to be a restaurant- but cleanliness and sanitation are almost free. read more

I Was so disappointed. First draft beers were not working, most sides were gone because it was a busy day they said. No option to refill, they were out of most things including ketchup. Flies. Gnats. Flies and gnats everywhere. On the cold bar watermelon. The cold salad. On the tables. On the register. On the hot buffet. Just everywhere. Couldn't even enjoy the food that comes with dining in because the full grown flies were buzzing everywhere over everything and the gnats landing on canned drinks and paper towels and plates. We ended up eating our sandwiches and not partaking in the sides that come with dining in as a result. Brisket was on the dry side but had flavor. The only redeeming quality was if the buffet was clean and there wasn't a fly/gnat issue, and food safety issues, the prices would be perfect. The health department could do a better job with the owners of holding them accountable. The owners and staff could do a much better job with cleanliness. Gnats mean standing rotten food. A couple flies with all the doors open would make some sense, but there were over 20. I'll go to bears or Theodores or BT smokehouse next time. read more

Well this place has been a gem for me plus. On 5/15 I ordered online to then come there by 6:45. The owner I spoke with about my order pickup. He then says. The square system that takes orders he tried to cancel my order. I was disappointed for him to say he ran out. He then told me he would reimburse me for $61 within two days. Almost three weeks later, 3 phone calls with no response. This is pretty crappy that as he said he wouldn't do what is right in the food industry to make it right for his customer. If he feels that $61 is worth keeping. Then that says it all. It just sucks that this was the end results of this experience. Inside were clean booths and efficient staff that reassure you that this is indeed an award-winning BBQ place. Even the vegetarian can get a black bean burger and indulge in the 12 or more sides ($7.99 for sides only!). The smoked chicken was delicious, and the kids thought the fries were the bomb. The Mac n cheese is super creamy. Bonus for parents who went hiking on Mt. Sugarloaf or Mt. Toby, decent beer or wine selection. I would also not recommend sitting at the booths near the door. A fly paradise. As soon as we walked in, there were flies buzzing around all over the place. As it is open air, we could tolerate it, but when we received a cup for water, the ice was covered in dead flies. The fixins bar that served mayonnaise covered sides was lukewarm at best, sitting for who knows how long. Again, an uncovered bar that is covered in flies buzzing around. The chicken sandwich was fine, but the bread was untoasted and fell apart. At a certain point, I could not handle the amount of flies buzzing around with the temperature being mid 80s. Hitting up the bathroom on the way out, the walls were covered in all sorts of insects including stick-like water bugs, spiders, and again--more flies. read more

This place is incredible. It's not much different than I remember when I visited as a kid. Bountiful delicious sides served buffet style, including conventional BBQ staples like beans, coleslaw pickled veggies, and fries. Also, rotating sides to change things up like smoked fried potatoes. The smoked meat is among the best in the area with generous servings of brisket, ribs, and the best wings I've ever had. The ambiance is what a smoke house should be. Bubs is practically an institution around here. Like many locals I have been going to Bubs for over 10 years. I have been going back there throughout the various owners. The charm of Bubs is that it's no frills, good food. We decided to go for lunch and I feel like it's a different restaurant. I admit I really only go to Bubs for the unlimited sides. The dirty rice, the collared green, the roasted potatoes and the pasta salad are my favorite things there. They were always seasoned well and a great complement to the meats. But today when I went the sides were AWFUL. The dirty rice was not seasoned at all (virtually no salt, tasted like it was rice cooked in water, no flavor whatsoever), the collared greens were SALTY (and I'm someone who loves salt) and the feta pasta salad was not the same pasta salad (incredibly bland, if you've ever had the pasta salad before these new owners took over you'll know that the pasta salad was tangy with a slight basil flavor). The prices do not reflect the quality of the food. I understand the need to raise prices due to cost of food and paying staff properly but that should come at the cost of the quality of food! I hate writing such a negative review, because the staff are LOVELY! But I'm hoping these new owners can turn this around, I would hate to lose the magic that was Bubs BBQ read more

Bub's was once my favorite restaurant but unfortunately not any longer. I decided to give it another try since the last time we ate there, last December, was an absolute let down. Since changing hands, the quality of the food has gone down, and the prices have gone up. The cold salad bar was just meh and the hot bar was just not appetizing. My $16 fried chicken sandwich was chewy and the plain white supermarket style bun was anemic. The sliced green tomato was a nice touch though. Little place in the middle of what seems to be a popular route for bikers. Not a huge menu but very friendly staff, I was actually impressed. Had to get a 2 meat combo, Ribs and Brisk. Some Mac and Cheese, Beans, and had to try their Sweet Potato Mash. I do like that they had 2 options for Ribs. Baby Back or Spare. I grabbed the Baby Back ribs for now. Exactly what you might expect from a great Back Yard BBQ. Not smoked for hours with a crazy rub on it, and a bunch of good sauce. The Brisket comes smothered in sauce too, hate it. Texture is okay-ish, a little tough for my liking. Can't really taste the Brisket that good because the sauce is everywhere. Mac and Cheese was the best dish I had. It had that nice cheesy grittiness to it so you know they actually use Cheese! Not some weird gooey Velveeta sauce. I would have liked a bit more flavor to it, maybe a tiny dash of some seasoning but overall it was really good. Also their Fries were incredible. The mashed Sweet potato I thought was a great flavor. Kinda hard to mess up brown sugar and cinnamon in buttery sweet potato I know but still. Only weird thing is for some reason they sprinkle what looks like rice krispies or coco krispies on top. I didn't get why they do that but whatever. Baked Beans weren't much to talk about. Not a lot of flavor, beans could have cooked for a bit longer. Nothing I wouldn't eat, that's for sure, but just bland. Place isn't winning any awards from me except for the fact that they take care of you. I came up here over the holiday weekend by sure luck. Went for a ride up the Deerfield river and around route two with my uncle and by the time we were heading back a majority of the places we tried to stop at were packed and or closed, none the less we pulled in here as we were approaching the end of our day and we were hungry. Not a bright place and or very big inside but it did the job and there was plenty of seating outside too. For food I ordered the pulled pork sandwich while my uncle ordered some ribs. I loved my dish as I devoured it, my uncle thought the ribs were equally as good but was just lacking meat on the bones. I enjoyed the sides, particularly the part where I could eat them while I waited for the food to come out. I had a little bit of everything: Spicy Dirty Rice, Baked Beans, Hickory Smoked Potatoes, and Collard Greens. The potatoes were my favorite side as well as the greens. I debated on going up for seconds but I didn't want to overstuff myself, especially before my food came out. I enjoyed the background music which pulled the place together for me. Bathroom was clean enough, I wasn't expecting your high end bathroom service with someone keeping it clean after every use. It being a holiday weekend and busy I expected the careless patron bathroom experience where people don't do their duty to help keep it clean. A good scrub down with some elbow grease wouldn't hurt ether a couple times a month (which goes for any place). Overall I feel this is a fair place to come to when searching for some BBQ. I heard a lot of good things about Bub's BBQ so I had to give it a try while I was visiting Amherst. The exterior of the restaurant looks very worn down but the interior was pretty cool. It had a very antique vibe going on. I ordered the beef brisket combo and got a sausage as a side. My girlfriend got a mushroom burger...don't ask me why. I was really looking forward to the beef brisket but it didn't live up to the hype. The flavor just wasn't there for me and they really don't give you the amount that you would expect for what you paid for. My friends both got the beef brisket. My black bean burger was pretty good, but I think it was a little overpriced at around $10. There is an all-you-can-eat buffet of sides, which was a nice touch, but I think the food was okay. The interior was really cute, the longer you stay, the more cute details and decorations you notice. There's lot of cute little pigs everywhere! I had high hopes after seeing the reviews on Facebook for the Smoke Prime Rib Friday night special. Went tonight and ordered takeout. I ordered 2 smoked prime rib dinners to go. My take out order as follows."I was taking this home to eat a bit later so I wanted 2 orders of rare slice's because I was planning on reheating at home to eat it. " He stated "sure thing, we'll cut 2 pieces from the middle so they'll be rare" Here's my review of this....the smell was amazing of smoked beef but upon opening the containers, they gave me 1 inside rare piece which I loved but then I got end cuts that were cooked so well they turned out super dry after reheating. Already not happy. The baked potatoes and baked beans were good but the sweet potatoes were so sweet I couldn't eat them and the collard greens were so salty we couldn't eat them. Giving them credit ... the taste of the 1 piece that was delicious, although a bit salty on the beef rim, it had a wonderful smoked flavor but the rest was lackluster. I really wanted to enjoy this meal but couldn't. I've been coming here since I was a child. Since the recent change of hands the food is HORRIBLE. Dry Brisket, dry and cold ribs, day old ice cold potatoes. Everything was nasty and a total rip off. I've been going there on and off since the 80's. The place has gone down hill since new owners took over. Some of the sides where down right discusting. I had the smoked chicken which looked a little under cooked to me. I only ate very little of it. Sadly, I will never go back again. There are better BBQ places to go to.
