What a lovely restaurant. More places need to mimic what they've done here. The staff was incredibly kind, and it truly felt family owned. It wasn't busy at all on a Sunday afternoon-which it absolutely should have been. It's perfectly located on the way back to Boston or NYC from several ski mountains, and I would definitely stop again on the drive. Easily the most delicious barbecue I've had outside of the Midwest. I ordered the pulled pork plate and the spring salad; both were excellent and complemented each other perfectly. Hostess advised there was a half hour wait, we said no problem. 5 minutes later, called me to say there was room! We sat at a table right in the middle. We could see how busy they were on a Friday night! Ordered a pulled pork sandwich and hubby got the hot dog with brisket chili sauce. It took a while, but I could see them working hard. The hostess not only greeted people, but also brought food to the table. The waitress was also running around making sure everyone had their drinks and took their orders. At one point, lost my napkin and she quickly picked it up and brought me a whole bunch more. When the food came out, you knew it was special. My pulled pork was melt-in-your mouth Good! The coleslaw tasted homemade and the bun was delicious too. My husband's hot dog was very good and tasty, he said. He was very happy. We made room for dessert. Shared a key lime pie which also was delicious. Overall, this place was a winner. Great staff and great food. Can't get better than that. read more

We were in town for a ski trip and found this place on Google. Tried walking in around 8 PM but there were no seats. Funny enough, there was an empty table, but they didn't have enough chairs for the four of us--they only keep exactly the number of chairs for each table, not a single extra one, so they couldn't seat us. The restaurant is pretty new with a clean, modern design. Compared to most of the older, more worn-out spots in the area, this place feels fresh and brand new. When we finally got seated, they were out of their famous brisket--super disappointing since that's what we came for. We all ended up getting pulled pork instead, which turned out to be really good. Each table gets a basket of BBQ sauces, and they were all solid. My favorites were the house sauce and the North Carolina one--both went perfectly with the pork. For appetizers, we got the shrimp cocktail. It was grilled, but served cold--tasted like it had been frozen before. Oddly enough, the smoky charcoal flavor with that cold texture worked surprisingly well. We also tried the French onion soup. It was flavorful but way too salty for my taste. This place definitely hit the spot. My husband and I had an early dinner. Cozy and clean place. Andrew was our server and was really friendly. Drinks were good, I had a moscow mule and my husband had a stella. For appetizer, we ordered the street corn dip. Wow this was very tasty, I couldn't stop eating it. We shared the brisket tray and added pulled pork, it's served with cornbread, pickles, coleslaw & a choice of hand cut fries or smoked gouda mac & cheese. Food was so delicious and cooked to perfection. The hand cut fries were nice and crispy. There were also 8 different sauces, our favorite was the Alabama white sauce and my husband also enjoyed the house bbq sauce. The s'mores were out of this world. Definitely make room for dessert. We look forward to coming back to try everything else. This place will definitely be on my list every time I visit Vermont. read more

Fantastic evening, accommodated a very large group of us (8 adults, 2 kids) in early August 2025. We were quite famished and, as it was off-season, several of the regular spots my family and I have been going to for years were closed during the week. Thankfully someone in our group found the Black Ember. Needless to say, went in totally blind and wow we were super, super impressed. Service was outstanding. Incredibly friendly group of people. Cozy! But super comfortable, only had about a 15-minute wait before we were seated. Food selection was the usual suspects for BBQ. The brisket was absolutely outstanding. LOVED the selection of sauces in squeeze bottles - got to try all the flavors, the N. Carolina sauce was fire and true to its namesake. Lots of local + craft brews. Husband had a local IPA and I really, really wish I remembered which one but it was quite tasty. Moscow Mule was super cold and hit the spot as a nightcap. Cannot wait to return for the season. It was jammed in August, likely will be packed once we flat landers get our mountain fix. Thanks for an awesome night. You guys rock at what you do! read more

Overall this place is great. Their food is amazing and it's cool inside. The only thing is that there's not many tables and you can't really get in there with a large party. There's only one table that seats more than four people. All in all, if they had more space this place would be amazing but if you're in the area and you haven't tried their food , I would at least get takeout because the food is top tier! read more

Great addition to the area. It's a small little place with a steady stream of people coming in. Started with a specialty cocktail, a blueberry lemonade, and it was delicious. We split the bacon wrapped jalapeño stuffed with brisket and cream cheese...amazing. I had the chicken with fries and my husband had the brisket with gouda mac and cheese. Both came with coleslaw, pickles, and cornbread. The best part was the variety of sauces that were bright to the table. It was fun trying all the different flavors. The chicken was so flavorful...my husband ate half of it with his brisket and he thought it was some of the best chicken he's had. We were too full for dessert, but will definitely go back again. My husband noticed they had burnt ends as a special after we had ordered so I know he wants to go back to try those. Also, want to go back to try the tacos next. Dined with Friends for dinner, we each ordered a different item and everyone enjoyed their meals. Our waitress was very friendly and efficient. We came early around 530 and glad we did as it did not take long for it to get busy. The ambiance is nice, you can see them working over the fire, the place is nicely decorated and clean.
