The staff were friendly and prompt to greet us upon check-in; the lobby is large and tidy. The rooms are well kept and spacious. We chose a suite room with a water view and weren't disappointed. It was super nice with a full kitchen and large living room in addition to a spacious room and bathroom. Beautiful views and nice size balconies round out the experience. Only two things quickly to note: 1) The balconies are lovely, but we had a weird experience with little finches getting caught between the concrete of the balcony edge and the gap between the clear plexiglass. We ended up rescuing 2 birds in the same morning, so hoping that doesn't happen frequently. Poor birds. 2) The breakfast is a bit sparse and comes off as somewhat cheap. Lovely to have it delivered to your room, but the portions were super tiny and pretty sparse overall. I would've preferred a traditional continental breakfast. Minor quibble but ultimately does matter in guest satisfaction overall. Overall a really nice hotel, good location and very clear with a few quirks.

Our choice of parking and waling to the 6 bars was a smart idea. :) The Bask's location can not be beat if you need to be in downtown Morehead city. We had a great check-in experience and were able to park in the lot 3 hours before official time. Our room was on the 7th floor and overlooked the water. It gave us a great view of the intercoastal waterway and Atlantic Beach. It came with a small kitchen that we did not use except for the coffee maker. The room was clean and met our needs. As others have said the breakfast was less than ideal. We ordered the night before and it came to our room at the appointed time. Both of us ordered yogurt and neither of us got what we ordered. My "Blue Marlin-Bask Signature" breakfast was OK but the avocado cream cheese sauce was nothing more than a small cup of cream cheese with very little avocado on top. The assorted muffins were 2 muffins that may have come from Costco. Adequate, but nothing special. My partner ordered a custom sandwich which was nothing memorable and she did not eat it. In addition to her missing yogurt, she was missing banana bread with no substitution. Lucky that she ordered milk because there were no coffee fixings (sweetener, cream, etc..) of any kind for the Keurig. Would we come back? Sure, if we needed to stay in Morehead City but we would skip the breakfast and walk up to the Big Rock Cafe (formerly Grumpys) for a real breakfast.

As you enter, you notice that the trash cans by the door are clean and empty, the glass doors clean and a woman is mopping wet footprints off of the floor each time someone walks across the lobby. The staff comes in early in the morning and you see them arrive with clean, pressed uniforms as they are talking and entering the building. They are a team and everyone knows their job and takes pride in their work. The pool deck and walkway to the beach are cleaned every morning. The men that take care of the outside amenities empty the trash, pick up items left behind and straighten the patio furniture before anyone comes to use the amenities. The groundskeepers then show up and mow the grass with a battery powered mower and weedwacker so that it doesn't disturb anyone that is still sleeping. They have coffee by the restaurant as early as 6:30 in the morning. It is hotel coffee, but this is a hotel and not a barista fixing your cup of morning joe. The restaurant that is on site and serves breakfast is very clean and offers seating options inside or on their patio. They are a little slow to get you seated, but once seated you are taken care of and don't need to ask for anything. Our cups were full and so were our stomachs as we got ready for a day at the beach. I don't like buffets. However, this buffet very clean and the food was good. We did sample the menu 2 of the days that we stayed. Th

DoubleTree by Hilton Atlantic Beach Oceanfront…read more I used electronic check-in, though I did stop by the front desk briefly to ask where the restaurant was before heading over for dinner about 40 minutes before closing. I'll cover that experience separately. Overall, the hotel delivered a solid stay. The room--707, oceanfront--was clean for the most part and well-equipped with everything you'd expect: refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker (filter-style pods), ironing board, hair dryer, and a television. Lighting is excellent, with plenty of lamps throughout the room, and there are ample AC outlets along with modern USB and USB-C ports, which is a nice touch. One feature that stood out was the small table with two chairs. It made a big difference since I ended up bringing dinner back to the room, and having a proper place to sit and eat comfortably is something not every hotel gets right. The room itself was spacious with a balcony overlooking the ocean. The view was great, and the setup made it easy to relax and enjoy the beachfront atmosphere. There was nothing wrong with the room--it was a solid, comfortable oceanfront stay. Parking is plentiful and free, which is always a plus in a beach area. One thing to keep in mind for this stretch of the coast: it tends to stay windy. Be prepared for strong winds and quick temperature changes, especially if you're spending time outside on the balcony or walking along the beach. Overall, a good, reliable oceanfront stay with the conveniences you want and a comfortable setup for relaxing by the water.

And yet, of all the places I have been, few can match the charm and service of this wonderful couple and this establishment. "Charming coastal" is indeed accurate as another reviewer noted, but so is kind and engaging. At least, that is how I found the host Kim, who is the hostess during your stay. The rooms are modest in size but well appointed and comfy with a wonderful balcony to enjoy a morning coffee and watch the city wake up. The highlight of each morning was the breakfast together. The breakfast is served at 9 sharp and is served with the other guests. It makes for not only a delicious breakfast, but Kim uses it as an opportunity to help direct, guide, and suggest places nearby that meet your interests. This is great as it means you get insider tips and ways to optimize your stay by taking the guesswork out--particularly when you have a small window for activities (we were only there for a few days). In the evenings, Kim hosts a happy hour which includes helping guests secure reservations and dinner plans settled before you go. This is not just a recommendation by Kim--she actively calls and secures the spots and confirms them with you. True concierge service! Setting aside the wonderful host and the rooms, the location is superb. We were there over the weekend, and there is a delightful Saturday market literally ACROSS the street filled with vendors of all varieties. Warming: it is easy to spend. ;) The entirety of the downtown is merely a block away with shops, restaurants, and bars galore along with the cruises, sports fishing, and recreation just a short walk down the road. Bottom line: I adored this place and have already recommended it to friends and family here in Durham (where we live) and beyond. If you can swing it (it is worth every penny) and want to give yourself or your partner a weekend to remember, I cannot more strongly recommend the Inn on Turner.

There was gook on the office chair; fingerprints all over the door including the lock plate as well as orange stains on the wall and light switches. Someone isn't doing the bare minimum of cleaning. The restroom was the grossest. The shower had several hairs belonging to someone else; the shower walls were dirty; and the area around the show had a buildup of gunk and dust so I don't think that area in the room had ever been cleaned. The shampoo; conditioner and soap containers were not filled. To make the stay worse my room was noisy as it overlooked the pool and was outside of the elevator so I heard every conversation and commotion that occurred in the hall area. Breakfast was to be ready by 6:30am but it wasn't. The woman in charge was complaining about missing items from a locked refrigerator and seemed upset that people were consuming the food and beverages. Isn't that the point of breakfast. I will not stay at this Holiday Inn again.

Things are new, they're still finishing up some small things as Covid and red tape slowed reconstruction. My room was clean, I appreciated the tile floor vs carpet, my personal preference. The staff was friendly and helpful. Due to Covid they aren't offering a hot breakfast like they normally do, but have wrapped pastries, fruit, cereal, coffee, tea, reheatable sausage biscuits, etc that you can bag up and bring back to your room. Normally would have eggs, sausage/bacon, pancakes. At other times they have a small retail area with sodas, juice, snacks etc for purchase as reasonable prices. There is a small fitness center that I forgot to take a picture of, a guest laundry with one large washer and dryer. They do have a meeting room for guest use, not sure what the restrictions are during Covid times. It's located near a CVS, Walgreens, Gas station, several bank branches, and a supermarket within walking distance. I would definitely stay here again.

We were so excited to visit Atlantic Beach and looking forward to staying at the Crystal Coast Oceanfront Hotel, because the photos of this hotel were amazing. We almost drove past the hotel when we arrived. The color of the building looked faded and dingy. Beware that the images that they display on their website don't show the filth. I shrugged and decided that it's close to the ocean and although looking weathered, I was going to enter and make the most of this time away from the office. We approached the front door and the glass was dirty, the handle to the hotel felt dirty and gritty in my hands as we entered. We arrived early and they told us our room wasn't ready and that check-in time was at 4:00. The couple that arrived just after us were allowed to check in although early and went to their room. We went back into the hotel at about 3:45 to get in line to pick up our keys, because the foyer was full. We were told at approximately 4:30 that our room wasn't ready and that they were short staffed, had over 80 rooms to get ready and that we would just have to wait in the lobby, the restaurant or we could go to the pool or the beach. We were traveling with our dog and had over $12,000.00 dollars worth of bikes on the bike rack. The options that she presented for us wouldn't work. We moved aside and let the people behind us go, since they might have better luck. We got back into line and made it to the check-in desk at about 4:40-4:45. We explained that the options that she had presented wouldn't work for us and we asked to have our money back so that we could go elsewhere. She refused and we asked to speak to the manager. She said that the manager wasn't available. I told her that we would get our money back, because we made a reservation for a room, paid in advance and they didn't have the room that we reserved. At that moment, we felt like we were in the Jerry Seinfeld episode...You can take the reservation, but don't know how to hold the reservation. She told us we would have to came back later and talk with the manager. We went after dinner at around 7:00. The front desk attendant was missing in action, so we rang the bell on the counter. She finally came into the office and smelled as thought she had been smoking a cigarette. She said, how can I help you and she had completely forgotten what had happened just a few hours earlier. We explained that we had tried to check in and our room wasn't ready and we wanted to speak with the manager. We were once again told that the manager wasn't available. We asked her to give our money back or to call the manager so that they could process the refund. She told me to quit screaming at her. I looked around and the lobby was full. I told her that I wasn't screaming and that she simply didn't want to hear what I had to say. I told my supervisor what the front desk attendant said about me screaming. He said that he has worked along side of me for the last 19 years and has never heard me scream at anyone and didn't even think that I could scream. My nickname is mouse, because I have a tiny voice. We tried to call the hotel throughout the week and nobody would answer the phone. We finally made our way back to the Hotel on Friday. They refused to offer a refund and told us we would need to call Expedia. Our reservation was made through booking.com. We called booking.com, explained that our room wasn't ready and that we had to secure another last minute reservation for the week. The representative placed us on hold and called the hotel to request that they refund our money if the room wasn't ready on time as we had stated. The manager said that she was declining the refund. The booking.com representative said okay, but I have just 1 more question before you hang up. Was their room ready at 4:00? The manager said that the room wasn't ready and hung up the phone. Booking.com got our money back with 24 hours after we made the call. They also paid the difference that we paid the Crystal Coast Oceanfront Hotel and the hotel that we were able to secure a last minute reservation.

The rooms were big and spotless and tastefully appointed. There were plenty of towels, snuggly beds, and many amenities in the room. There's a huge lobby with wicker chairs for you to snuggle up and read or just watch the waves. The dining area is spacious and welcoming. The stay comes with a continental breakfast. Honestly, that could be better. For a nice Inn like this, it would be nice to have a better choice and quality of food: fresh, baked pastries and muffins, etc. but we had packaged and microwaved fare. They did have yogurt though. It's a bizarre time to be reviewing most things because Covid has obviously thrown off the "normal" into many shades of grey. With that said, take this one with a grain of salt as it's only a brief snapshot in time for how things are now. In another month or two, who knows? Let's start with the good: The location to the beach couldn't be any better. Just a short walk and you're there. The hotel was sold out or near it every night we were there yet the beach area directly across the street was never busy. The same as last year with seeing the same families and people every day more or less set up in the same spot very spread out from each other. All Covidly perfect. Not so good: Hilton Honors benefits at check in are still a no here, just like last year. The beds are extremely squeaky. Any sitting/moving = high pitched squeaking. The hotel is not following the new Hilton/Lysol cleaning protocol that started a few weeks ago. No stickers on the room doors or verbiage anywhere on property. I was told at check in that if you want your garbage taken to have it in the hallway early in the morning so that housekeeping could grab it and that the only way to get fresh towels or any bedding was to stop a housekeeper in the hall with your old stuff or bring your old stuff with you to the front desk since the hotel was running extremely low. Is the hotel's linen par really that low? Is the smell of that much garbage-food in the hallways overnight a good idea? Our room was dusty/sandy when we checked in and the a/c unit was filthy. No way were either cleaned thoroughly in a while. But since there was no daily housekeeping and with the hotel being sold out the day we checked in... If you want a hotel that has a great beach location that is out of the way and quiet, this is it. Past that, things were on the dirtier side in general and I question any place not following the new cleaning protocol. Time to give this one a rest for a bit.
