Delicious blueberries! I love u-pick experiences but blueberries are not high on my list of favorite things to pick (so small!) so it's nice when you can also buy pre-picked product and luckily Blueberry Hill has that option. My little cousin, far more ambitious, loved being able to pick her own pint. Both the pre-picked and u-pick berries were so good. I also got a cup of the apple pie ice cream. It was good but not great. The pie crust, due to the high amounts of butter, just got very hard in the ice cream and made it challenging to eat. But the ice cream itself was delicious so I'd definitely be into trying a different flavor there. They have a small market with some other blueberry products and pre-packed ice cream and such. I love Buchan's. I would have loved to pick some delicious blueberries (I've picked there before; they're so much tastier than what is sold in stores. I didn't have time to do anything with them, tho. So we had ice cream! Cherry, which is what I dream about, salted caramel crack, explosion 5, peach and one other were SO good. We went at least 3 times in 5 days. You sit outside and talk with the parrot, or in your car and just savor the goodness. read more

Stopped my Buchan's late on a Thursday afternoon and Mr. Buchan hopped right off his tractor to scoop us ice cream, get us set up for apple picking, and sell us fresh cider squeezed that day. The farm is lovely and the apples were amazing. HIGHLY recommend. read more

An institution on Old Mission, the Buchan family has been growing THE BEST blueberries for at least a couple of generations. The largest bushes tower over you at 8 feet, and the berries are big, sweet and flavorful. U-pick or purchase. The BEST. Their true genius however, may be the ice cream. (I hesitate to let this cat out of the bag, as it is my daughter's favorite but...) Blueberry Ice Cream. Perfect. Apple Pie Ice Cream. We were skeptical. Maybe it is some artificial cinnamony glop added to vanilla. So we asked the question: "How is that made?" The woman hesitated, and then said, "...well, I bake an apple pie, then we put it in the ice cream." It is heavenly. Extra secret: You can get it hand dipped at Peninsula Market on Center Road of Buchan's is closed. If you think I may be overstating it, check my reviews. Come early, grab a bucket, and start picking your own blueberries! They primarily have blueberry shrubs but they also have U-pick apples and peaches. Call them and find out if they are in season. I went here with my family and we had a blast. Each of us had a small bucket and within one hour, we picked about 10 pounds of blueberry. It's nothing really, because the other people had a couple of large buckets. It's only $1.85/lb for u-pick. So, it's absolutely affordable. I think I am going to make some blueberry preserves if I have any left. If you are going, make sure you go by the Peninsula Dr. Going by M-37 and then on Nelson is a horrible choice because the road is rocky and narrow. It will only fit a vehicle. If there's another person coming the opposite way, either one will have to reverse and let me tell you, it will be a total pain. read more

I came here in May and since it was too early to pick any fruit we just enjoyed some blueberry ice cream, which was amazing I might add. However, even though it was spectacular and a great price point, I was a little disappointed in the service as I believe this is suppose to be a "family-friendly" place. When we walked up to the counter the lady laughed in my face when I asked what there was to pick as it was too early in the season, not exactly welcoming to a customer who knows nothing about picking/farming/etc. Second, the male who worked there came through the door as we were at the counter and physically threw the dog inside then proceeded to make comments to the woman there about the dog and how frustrated he was with it. It was rather embarrassing for them to do this in front of customers. Even in the season of picking, I would never support this business. read more

I'm mostly too lazy to pick blueberries but never fear you can buy them. They used to have a little ice cream stand at Peninsula Market. I noticed the stand was gone but they still sell pints of it. I was happy to see their offerings have expanded. Obviously Blueberry Ice Cream is their signature flavor but don't pass up the Lavender. It was phenomenal. I really love this place. It's ruined me for blueberries anywhere else. Good thing blueberry season is long on the peninsula. It's a bit hard to find. It's on Nelson Rd off of Peninsula Drive. If you're heading north you'll see the sign. If you're heading south it's a bit trickier. Either way it's worth searching for this little gem. read more

What's better than picking blueberries with your family then making blueberry jam for school lunches in the fall? This was the third year coming back and when we asked for a bucket we were told NO only adults and kids 12 and older!!! Then the lady at the front counter proceeded to tell me that kids poop in the berry bushes, yell, and destroy the plants. No stars! They are very mean and extremely rude. They have adult only days, which discourages families. They don't have adequate parking and no handicap parking. This place is the best! During blueberry season we're here nearly every weekend picking blueberries - some to eat fresh during the week and the rest to freeze for the winter. Really though, we go here so often for the homemade ice cream. We live about 5 minutes from the most popular "homemade" (yeah right, not if you ask to see the ingredient list!) ice cream place in TC, yet we're happy to drive 20 minutes to Buchan's for their real homemade ice cream instead. It's some of the best ice cream I've ever had - so creamy and with just a really excellent flavor. The fruit flavors are the best, with blueberry being tops. Apple pie, cherry sundae and peaches and cream are all excellent choices too. I did have the chocolate cherry one time and wasn't as impressed, so I avoid the chocolate based flavors now. This place is definitely worth the drive, and besides that it's a beautiful drive anyway. It's not too difficult to find - just look for the sign. If you get to Bowers Harbor you've gone too far. read more
