This is such a gem of a chocolate store and really need to put it on your list if in area. They also have tons of vegan chocolate options too which is nice if you have a dairy allergy.

The very first thing we noticed when we entered the Grocer's Daughter is the absolutely delicious smells! It's a bright place packed with chocolate options and some nice seating. Everything is well labeled with types of chocolate (dark, milk, white), and there are a lot of fun shapes in addition to bars, truffles, hot chocolate mix, and a freezer case of fudgsicles in various flavors. We opted to try a selection of items: a milk chocolate Kilgore Trout, milk chocolate Sleeping bear, milk chocolate Dianne bar (caramelized almonds and smoked sea salt), and a milk chocolate orange fudgesicle. Everything was much enjoyed! There is a parking lot available. Staff was friendly.

We got a tip from a barista in Traverse City that we should visit Grocer's Daughter during our stay near Sleeping Bear. Super fun and delicious selection of chocolates! Adorable storefront and cozy seating area for guests. We had a hard time deciding what to buy, so we got a little of many different things. Milk chocolate, dark chocolate, chocolate truffles, peanut butter disks, hot chocolate... YUM! Love the commitment to fair trade and sustainability. I ordered a hot mixed chocolate (milk/dark) with "dragons breath" and it was perfection.

If you are in the mood for a sweet chocolate treat while in Sleeping Bear Dunes look no further here is your place. They have many delicious chocolate treat's featuring many different flavors. There is something for everyone. Great service and a cute little place to sit and eat your treats and take them to go.

We were absolutely thrilled that we caught the is caught the bright green exterior out of the corner of our eye a and turned around in a neighboring business to come visit Grocer's Daughter. My husband had a fun time identifying all of the perennial edibles in the garden including yarrow, lavender and lemon verbena. The outdoor garden area is as inviting as the chocolate is delectable And includes brightly colored metal butterfly chairs and a repurposed ski lift turned into a bench. As soon as you walk in the door the aroma wafts your way and you know that you're going to give them all your money. My husband was thrilled with his cherry limeaid slushy made with real cherries and homemade whippec cream, and I was equally over the moon about my chocolate ice cream bar flavored with Earl Grey, cardamom and lavender. Store capacity is 6 folks, so I imagine they run a wait during busy hours but we got right in and out.

Typically our family will buy a half pound slab or two of Murdick's Fudge, because it is everywhere up here in the Traverse Bay area. I am *devastated* that I wasted thirty-some-odd years of my life on such sub-par fudge. I had no idea. 45th Parallel's Candy World (Yelp administrators, please correct your spelling) is a tiny shop on the side of a restaurant, but it has a hundred years of memories inside. Everything from clove candy, bubble gum cigars, big league chew, sour pucker powder, and even a giant Sugar Daddy. But behind the case are around twenty flavors of truly decadent, top-quality, gourmet fudge. Flavors such as dark chocolate salted caramel, bubble gum, maple nut, and peanut butter chocolate (complete with halved Reese's cups on top) tease the eyes while making the salivary glands work overtime. Our family's favorite is the dark chocolate salted caramel- the perfect amount of sea salt, and not at all bitter. Check the board outside for specials: today's was "buy one pound, get 1/2 pound free". When you're in the Suttons Bay/Leelanau area, bypass Dam Candy and Murdick's and head STRAIGHT for Candy World!

We wanted a kid friendly option and came in for the pizza, but ended up being blown away by the massive sandwich menu! Don't be discouraged by the line - it moves FAST!!!! The young people at the register and in the kitchen are efficient and so nice!!! We arrived about half an hour before the sign says pizzas are ready, and the lovely man at the register said "sure!" when we asked if we could order a pizza. The menu has something for everyone - Including plenty of vegetarian options (I think they even had a vegan option). I loved my Griffon, and the meat eaters in our group enjoyed the SS Noronic (a BLT) and the Fitzgerald. Our kids devoured their cheese pizza! They also carry Great Lakes Co Chips, which are some of the best potato chips we've ever had. Our sandwiches were all so inventive with delicious, fresh ingredients, amazing condiments, and the most freshly baked "pretzel rolls" ever. If this place wasn't a vacation stop for us, we'd be back all the time! Our kiddos favorite part, bedsides the pizza, were the tiny plastic swords that came in our sandwiches holding them together. When they each wanted one more sword, we went back inside and the staff inside was so used to kids asking for more tiny swords that their response to "May we have two more swords?" Was "Sure! What colors?!" Very different from what the response would have been where we're from. :) We even came back later in the day for the frozen custard!!! All in all, it was a great experience with great food, great service, plenty of outdoor picnic tables under umbrellas, and something for everyone to eat.

We quickly found out that this is the flagship/factory location and we decided to drop in on the way back down. This location is huge, and understandably so as it makes the chocolates that are delivered to the rest of the stores in the country. While we visited as the day was winding down, there were still a few people making chocolate bunnies and packaging peppermint squares in the windows. There were plenty of people inside looking to get ice cream and treats in the hot weather but the line moved fast and we were in the front in no time. Regular in a Dish ($7.99) - I almost had a heart attack when I saw how much they were charging for a regular size in a dish. I guess there's a reason they only have the menu posted up near the end of the line, after you've already selected your flavors... They also weigh the ice cream before serving it to you - a good way to control portions I suppose, but very strange to see in an ice cream shop. Is it because they want to make sure to give you a minimum amount of ice cream for the size, or is it because they want to nickle and dime and make sure you don't get a single gram more than they need to give? I'm not sure, but I know now that a regular is approximately 8.2oz. I was almost going to give Kilwins a premature 2/5 before I started eating... We went with two flavors in the regular dish - firstly a scoop of Chocolate Caramel Cookies & Cream on the bottom and New Orleans Praline Pecan on the top. On my first spoonful, I could tell that this ice cream is exceptionally high quality. It was difficult to even insert the plastic spoon into the ice cream and it took some effort to finally get a scoop out. And then lifting the spoon out of the cup, the ice cream stuck well to the spoon without any stretch or gumminess. The first impression I got as it hit my tongue - exceptionally creamy, rich and dense, with an exceptionally low overrun for an ice cream. The ice cream is sweet, but not cloyingly so. It's studded with actual pralines that are covered with crunchy candied coating, adding a nice texture and caramelized flavor. The chocolate caramel is similar in quality - with a rich chocolate flavor, sweet with caramel swirl and some soft cocoa cookie bits to round out the flavor. I have to say, Kilwins has some of the highest quality ice cream you can get. Now the problem is that I don't know if it's worth the money over small batch artisan ice cream shops, or other larger high quality chains. For example, the ice cream here costs more than Salt & Straw, Jeni's, Chocolate Shoppe, etc. I just can't image that the quality is that much higher than those places, and yet they charge more. So yes, the ice cream here is fantastic and I have to give Kilwin's a 5/5 just for quality. However, I don't feel like I can recommend this place due to the cost, unless you count it as the price of entertainment while stopping in the shop and watching the factory hum along. One bonus is that they do give out free samples of both ice cream and chocolate, so I guess that makes up for some of the cost as well? Bathrooms - Two larger bathrooms for both genders.

All the fudge is delicious and well worth it. They have a variety of other tasty treats available and upon checking out, we were given a mini portion of whatever chocolate we said was our favorite.
